First. Fully slotting Obliteration in damage auras.
BAD! BAAAAAAAD!
You have absolute **** end redux. And while your damage aura isn't really really eating lots of end, it's still going to hurt you in the long run.
The fact that you're only getting a piddling amount of S/L and the Melee just overlaps with your S/L isn't so great when investing 6 slots either.
Oblits are nice for AoE attacks that are on long recharges. Then, the lack of End redux isn't a big deal.
Here's a rework you might find slightly easier to play.

Quote:Did you NOT read the rest of the post? Or did you stop at "meh" and assume I was trying to be offensive and decide to be offended?Thank you SO MUCH for your constructive criticism. Your insightful comment of “meh”, just gives me so much to work with.
I thought the purpose of this forum was to ask for help. Instead what I got was sarcasm. If your intent was to help, you have a really bad way of showing it.
"Meh", because, basically it's a build that's pulled in several directions and doing none of them particularly well. If that's offensive to you, especially after I asked you not to get offended by an honest reaction, I'm not sorry.
I wasn't more explicit because, on a holiday I was *gasp* looking forward to spending a little time with my mom and my nephew and nieces and I was running late.
This is why I asked you for clarification as to what the goals were for your build. I'm not psychic, so I don't know precisely what you had in mind when you were building.
I'm not saying your build it "wrong" or "bad" or "dumb". It's not. It's just not particularly outstanding in any given area and, depending on how you want to run it, you could realize MAJOR performance improvements in several areas with a few small changes.
As such, I would ask you to
- Bypass my "meh"
- Actually read the rest of my post
- Answer my queries as to the what you want to DO with the build
-
Forgive me. But my first reaction is "meh".
Most of your fully slotted attacks have maxed-out damage. But endurance redux and recharge in most of them are... meh.
Are you going for Recharge? Defense? A mix of both?
It LOOKS like you're going for MaxHP, which isn't going to help you much (your a blaster for bob's sake).
Especially in solo/small team Incarnate content, you're not doing enough damage to kill stuff outright before it reaches you. You don't have enough defense (positional or otherwise) to defend when they shoot back.
Bonfire, if you're actually using it slotted that way, is going to get you disinvited from teams as you toss mobs all over the map. If you have access to the KB->KD Universal Damage proc, I'd slot Bonfire with 5 Positron's Blast (not the PB proc), and then slot the KB->KD proc as the 6th slot.
This will essentially give you an AoE knockdown field that runs for 45 seconds and (if you're building for monster recharge), can be made perma.
I'd go into it more now. But it's the 4th and I'm already late for a lunch date with Hyper's Momma. God help me! -

Okay, apparently (as of the end of June 2012) some people are getting game crashes when trying to access a specific server (not necessarily the same server for everyone) or a specific character on said server.
There are two possibilites (that I know of) at this point.
- The character in question has corrupted in some way (possibly a costume piece) that's causing crashes. If this is the first character on the list, it'll crash you whenever you attempt to access that server. If it's lower on the list, you'll crash when trying to view/log on to that character.
- Your PlayerSlot.txt file is corrupted.
What is a PlayerSlot.txt file.
As you may (or may not) know, you can swap out the order in which your characters appear on a server. So, if you have a character you're playing more frequently, you can swap them to the front of the list. Or you can organize your characters by level, AT, side, etc.
When you do this, it generates entries into a file called PlayerSlot.txt
Basic example:
Player name: GuineaPig
Server: Freedom
Character Name: BustedToon
Location of CoH Install: C:\City of Heroes\
In this case you would find the PlayerSlot file in:
C:\City of Heroes\GuineaPig\PlayerSlot.txt
Once you open it up you'll see a bunch of entries for all the servers you have toons on.
Entries will look like this:
"PlayerName" "ServerName" "CharacterName" "Number"
If BustedToon is the first character listed for the Freedom server, the entry will look like this:
"GuineaPig" "Freedom" "BustedToon" "0"
Note: All counts start from zero here.
Take a little time and check to make sure all the other entries on the server follow this format. Look for gaps in counts. If you see 10, 11, 13, 14, 16, etc but 12 and 15 are just not there, there's a problem (duh!).
Now, if you're simply crashing when you try to access a server, make a note of who the zero-placed player is. You'll want to send in a bug report when you get back into game.
If you're not crashing when you get to the server but ONLY when accessing a specific (non-first place) toon, just make a note of who that toon is.
Make sure you've exited the game.
Recommended practice: Swap the first and last characters on the server.
So:
"GuineaPig" "Freedom" "BustedToon" "0"
and
"GuineaPig" "Freedom" "NotBustedToon" "10"
Just edit the entries to read;
"GuineaPig" "Freedom" "BustedToon" "10"
and
"GuineaPig" "Freedom" "NotBustedToon" "0"
Then save the file and try logging back in on that server.
If you're STILL crashing, or you noted that you were missing entries, you're better off closing PlayerSlot.txt, then renaming or deleting it and letting the game repopulate from the default character order stored on the servers.
If editing solves your problem, log back into the game and submit a bug report complete with the server and character name of the toon affected. Explain that attempts to access that toon are resulting in game crashes.
This will help the GMs/Devs build up a list of affected toons and they can find out what they all may have in common that's contributing to this. -
It's likely either the file setting your character order has become corrupt, or there's some sort of damage to the character model itself (like a corrupted costume piece) that's causing it to barf out.
If you've organized your characters on any server in the past you should have a file in your *\City of Heroes\AccountName folder called PlayerSlot.txt
Look for an entry that looks like:
"PlayerName" "Guardian" "CharacterName" "0"
"PlayerName" is the account name you log onto CoH with.
"Guardian" is, of course, the name of the server.
"CharacterName" is the actual name of the toon that's in that slot.
"0" Counts for these start 0, 1, 2, 3 and so on.
Make a note of the character name because you'll want to submit a bug report.
Now find any other characters you have on Guardian as well.
I recommend swapping the first and last character on the server.
Make sure you've completely exited the game before you do this.
So if you have 5 characters on Guardian with
"danni" "Guardian" "BustedToon" 0
and
"danni" "Guardian" "UnbustedToon" 5
Swap them so they're
"danni" "Guardian" "UnbustedToon" 0
"danni" "Guardian" "BustedToon" 5
Save the text file, then log into the game.
Now try logging onto Guardian. -
Quote:Technically you're doing the same thing (albeit at a slower pace). So don't be TOO judgemental.my goodness. you just paid your way right up that reward tree didnt you. bravo.
And the money is going into further development of the game (always a plus).
Moreover, none of it really affects you (save that it makes teaming with him slightly more pleasant, as a bunch of the stuff that unlocks is directly beneficial to teammates). -
Sorry to necro this thread. But I figured other people might be looking for info on this.
As of 07/03/12, it's still bugged.
However, there is a strategy for completion on the ParagonWiki page for the contact.
Basically stay near the starting point and draw smaller mobs to your position with Laser Beam Eyes. Then use LBE and Energy Smash to kill mobs. The other powers in conjunction with the ridiculous concentration of enemies seem to be what's driving the server into screaming fits and causing the mapservs.
Only advance once you've cleared most of the center of the map. It's slow, but it works. Just SUCCESSFULLY completed it today using this method. -
So they're kinda merging 616 and 1610.
Yeah. I'm out. -
I saw it last night. Was not a bad film at all.
-
You're running Embedded Intel Graphics.
They may be okay for some basic DirectX games.
But for an OpenGL game like CoH, you're lucky the game actually "runs" at all. -
Quote:Heh. The first Origins I went to, I went as "technically" an exhibitor. A buddy of mine was helping a local game shop get their stuff out there. Turns out they were a card house.Nooo! My nerdiness will be stripped away! I must resign before it's to late. lol
MtG...god I sure did waste a lot of money on the game : /.
So they've got a picture of me sitting in the booth after setup with this "WEEKLY TASK FORCE MAN?!?!?" look on my face.
Ah. And here it is.

Quote:Actually, what boggles my mind more than anything is that the writer in question publicly admits that
a) he actually didn't know anything about Felicia Day before going off on her
b) he was drunk and thus tweeting wildly
I have no idea why the writer thought either statement would make his actions seem anything but *worse*. Both admissions make his acts even more reprehensible.
Actually, its a pet peeve of mine that there seems to be a growing subculture of the internet that believes "sorry I was drunk" is an excuse for anything. As far as I'm concerned its an admission that you're aware you're a harmful person when intoxicated, but you do it anyway because you could give a damn about anyone else.
Agreed.
"Drunk" doesn't make you do a damned thing.
"Drunk" is just a convenient excuse to be an ****** when one feels like being an ******. -
For general tanking, you'll be "okay". Not "great", but "okay".
My standard advice for building for psi defense/resist on an Inv.
SCREW THE PSI HOLE!
Build for S/L/E/N (and if you can, F/C) defenses. A byproduct of building this way is you'll boost your Ranged and AoE defenses FAR beyond what you could reasonably get your Psi defense to.
Optimal slotting for Auto/Passive resists (Resist Physical Damage, Resist Elements, Resist Energies): 3 Aegis
- Resist
- Resist/End
- Resist/Rech
- Resist
- Resist/End
- Resist/Rech
- Resist/End/Rech
Working back.
In trying to build for recharge AND plugging the psi hole, you've kinda compromised your build.
You don't need Focused Accuracy. Properly slotted Rage will be up perma, with a good chunk of Double Rage overlap. Even without Hasten. Suggest converting FA to Hasten.
Physical Perfection is GROTESQUELY overslotted. It's a good spot for procs and the like, but beyond that, you're better off slotting in Superior Conditioning, Health and Stamina.
A better use of your AoEs (Foot Stomp and Spring Attack) would be to frankenslot.
3 Obliterations
- Damage/Rech (or the Proc for occasional bouts of Energy Damage Goodness)
- Acc/Dam/Rech
- Acc/Dam/End/Rech
- Multi Strike: Acc/Dam/End
- Multi Sttrike: Dam/End/Rech
- Eradication: Acc/Dam/End/Rech
From a set bonus standpoint, the 3 CBs are better since they improve your Recovery AND give you an additional nifty E/N bonus.
Boxing should only be used if absolutely necessary.
Take Taunt. LOVE Taunt! No, you're not a Tank. You do more damage. Thus, enemies get scared of you faster and run the hell away!
Dull Pain is overslotted. And if you're going to slot it, 5 slots of Doctored Wounds is more optimal, since you get a recharge bonus out of it.
As noted earlier, your resists are sub-optimally slotted.
For comparison, here's a similar brute I'm running right now:

So there's a couple possibilities there for you and some room to play with in your build. -
No, I knew you weren't trying to argue.
Just keeping dialog going so that anyone else reading it understands what's being talked about in a bit better detail. -
Quote:Ah ok - isn't this the trial that was taken away for a reaaaally long time and then reintroduced?
Yep. And was (mostly) abandoned because it just wasn't reallya lot of fun. Being SG locked hurt it.
Also, there were some mechanics problems with one of the AVs that made victory a very VERY binary proposition. -
What? You're not 50 YET? OMGWTFBBQN00B!

Quote:I really should be sleeping, but.
My Fm/Inv brute is softcapped to s/l and doesnkt have a single kin combat set in it at all. Plus, these other two guys know there stuff. Follow there advice and you should do well. Ok now me go sleepy bye.
Getting to S/L softcap on Inv isn't the issue. Any idiot can do that.
Getting your defenses on the other defense types up to acceptable ranges is where planning comes in. And using Kin Combats to boost S/L frees one up to make other choices for the exotics. -
From past experience with the CoP.
Yeah. Trying to taunt enemies to the center is kinda useless. It's usually just more efficient to go in and hammer them down. ESPECIALLY now that you can have overlapping Judgements (of different types) on them. Pulling them just wastes time that you could spend kill them and the the AV. -
Quote:Yeah. The new IoPs were implemented pre-incarnates.I just wanted to thank Star Incarnate for letting me try the Cathedral of Pain for the very first time.
I can't believe how incredibly short and easy this thing is.
Here is the video of my first experience with this trial. Does the IoP change randomly for people? The one I got was completely pointless as I have a tier 4 Nerve Alpha - I got an acc IoP.
And, now that we're this far along the Incarnate chain, I'm betting that these things ought to be STUPID easy. -
Okay. Again. Passive Resists (any power that says "Resist X") should be the ones getting the Aegis treatment.
You get nearly the same amount of raw Resistance enhancement from 3 Aegis (Resist, Res/End, Res/Rech) as you do from 4 Reactive Armor (Resist, Res/End, Res/Rech, Res/End/Rech). And you see better endurance reduction in powers that actually benefit from it.
Here's a slightly different take on your build. Slightly closer to Perma Hasten. VERY perma DP.

Quote:Bumping over to Linux, if there's enough free space, might help. Right now his Windows partition is just too full, and NTFS gets all sorts of pissy once you start limiting free space below 15-20% (and usually falls off a cliff at 10%).If games ran better and faster under linux, Microsoft would have been out of business years ago.
Hyperstrike answered your question already. You can't squeeze anymore performance out of it. Laptops are not good for gaming and those that are good for it, cost big bucks.
But it's not likely to be that much of a performance bump. The machine is just too old and low-end. -

Quote:No Doctor Who. So you're a poseur.Do I score more nerd points for being a D&D, MtG, Comics, Trekkie, Cult Film, Book, Gaymer "Urban" nerd that grew up in the rough part of town?
It that's the case I should be able to destroy n00bs with a fleeting thought.
Plus everyone knows that Money the Grabbing wasn't a real game. It was just a lame attempt to cash in on a new wave of "gaming is getting mainstream".
