Quote:So you're saying that you're going to toss the carrots to people who DON'T care instead? The people who *want* to actively participate in the forums are going to do so, regardless of any carrots we dangle in front of them. Because you care, because you're passionate, you want to be involved with the future of the game.
The people you're ACTUALLY tossing it to are those who care enough (about getting free stuff at least) and have more resources in terms of free time than a great many of your players.
I have the luxury of participating in the forums during the work day because the forums are very asynchronous. I can do it during downtime, or while in the middle of something else.
I have no hope of competing against someone with no job or other responsibilities who can afford to burn a day refreshing the page umpty-bajillion times a minute.
Coming back and telling us it's going to be EXCLUSIVE to said medium or going to market-speak (see: ESSENTIALLY LYING) about how that "maybe some day" it'll be put up on the market or someplace else (see: probably never) just ticks people off.
This argument comes up over and over again. The answers are always the same and always reeking of bovine excrement.
I'm sorry if you find that hostile or rude.
I do care about this game. And I care enough that I'm NOT going to sugar-coat an honest opinion just so you don't feel bad.
Also, if your market interface isn't working how you want, what is holding it up?
I mean, it's only been what? 8 months? -
Quote:As Zwill said. It's about "driving traffic" to these alternate venues.What.
No, actually, what the actual [PANCAKE] HELL?
Do...do you guys not GET how *un-fun* exclusive stuff like this is? Making people jump through hoops just to get stuff they might want? What does that achieve, exactly, other than really aggravating people?
The stupid 'Incarnate only' unlocks stuff is bad enough. The Super Pack only 'chance to get' costumes are even worse, even if you may get them nearly always within 24 or so. This? This is an all time [pancake] low. It's the principle of the thing, and it's not damn cool .
Edit: Oh, look at all that majorly unpositive feedback. Is this giving you guys any HINTS yet? ¬¬
My question about it is, if they have to "drive" people to these venues, exactly what does that say about the value of the venue to their customer base.
Sure, it MIGHT make it look "bustling" to people outside the community for a while. A very SHORT while. But you've essentially built yourself a little Potemkin Village.
Now Zwill's going to dig his heels in on this. I guarantee.
Quote:And just as soon as they get that functionality working, we'll take advantage of it.
Until then, we'll be utilizing whatever means we see fit to promote our different social media channels.
About the only way we could REASONABLY send a credible "**** no" would be if people avoided these silly promotions entirely.
But, that won't happen. Because there's always going to be a group of people who GOTTA have their freebie "bling".
So Zwill's going to burn a lot of time trying to capture new membership in these various venues. The problem is, that Paragon simply doesn't generate that much new information that outsiders might find "interesting". All that's happening is they're churning their current playerbase and trying to move them around to these ancillary sites for no reason.
So the account either goes underutilized leading to "Under Contstruction (for the past 10 years)" syndrome or it devolves into a bunch of pointless updates just to say that there's activity. Like my humorous example of "In the bathroom. Taking a dump. Jeeze this is a brick! OOF!"
Basically, Zwill and Paragon haven't taken full advantage of the venues they ALREADY have NOW. Flailing around wildly with the twits and facepalmers accomplishes nothing but further dilution of Paragon's small information stream.
Their Facebook promotion was a joke. Facebook got not one iota of real information out of me (didn't even get my real IP/location/machine). So both they and Paragon got a net nothing from me (and likely a lot of other users who simply created throwaway accounts).
This is going to be no different.
If there are people like me who're willing to jump through five machines and in and out of TOR a couple times to fake this sort of thing what is that saying?
That their product is desirable, but their hamfisted attempts to cattle-prod us into these other social marketing venues of dubious worth (that we are militantly avoiding or bypassing) are most definitely NOT welcome.
If they want to give away free stuff on these sites that everyone else can buy on the forums? Cool. More power to them.
But this crap with exclusivity needs to stop. And I don't mean with *nudge*nudge*wink*wink* vague blatherings about how these things might someday show up on the market...maybe.
Paragon is free to handle their business however they want.
But at some point, they're going to realize that certain marketing antics are going to leave the players free to tell them to **** off and exit the game. -
Why yes. Yes you did.
Essentially all nukes are having damage and recharge normalized.
Recharge is coming down quite a bit.
Damage is going down slightly.
No more crash.
Nova was used as an example:
Currently:
- Recharge: 360s (Unaugmented)
- Damage: 305
- Crash!
- Recharge: 145s (Unaugmented)
- Damage: 250
- NO CRASH!

Quote:Yes, I recall they were used for Base Raids back when that function was enabled with Bases. What I'm seeking to find out is if they are suppose to light up when placed on the walls as decorations, or do they not light up, and insome cases with the Arcane batteries, move at all now that Base Raiding has been disabled. I only have an interest in using them as decorations if they look active, as the non-active look is not really the design look I'm going for.
I'll have to place a couple to be sure. But I believe they're inactive pieces. -
Quote:Cool. Thanks for the link. You missed it. By two weeks.

Quote:Incarnate Trial Magisterium
- In the final Tyrant fight, Lore Pets no longer receive the level shift from defeating Lights of the Well. This was causing Tyrant to be defeated much more quickly than intended.
Maybe I missed it. But was the bug where it was awarding to a maximum of 16 players fixed yet? -
Quote:I'm wondering if any of you might have the answer to this question. I have been upgrading our SG base which is on a Large Secure Complex plot, and wanted to add one or two Base Battery Items to the Secure Portal Room (our teleport bay). I was under the impression that the batteries would show power (i.e. be lite up and look active) when placed, but none of the Tech nor Arcane style look functional when placed on a wall.
I've been base building since the game began, but never had a need or desire to use any of the Base Battery Items. Now that I have, they just look like non-functional wall items. Is this how they always look unless there is a loss of power and they start to function as true batteries? Or is this a bug, and they should look "active" no matter how much energy is powering the base?
Base batteries are "raid" items. They effectively kept devices going in case primary power to the base was destroyed.
Now? They're just eye candy and nothing more. -
This was actually addressed in a thread about "regretting gaming when you die" a couple weeks back too.

Yes. When talking about builds with people, try to establish if the build is one of the following:
- Leveling build: Powers and slots taken in an organic, level-up fashion
- Exemping build: Powers and slots taken in a fashion to wind up with a build whose stats "decay" gracefully as it exemps.
- Finalized build: A build with powers and slots taken to yield maximum performance at level 50.

Quote:This is CoH!It is IMPOSSIBLE that my password and user name were stolen. IMPOSSIBLE.
*Kicks someone into the pit of despair*
Impossible just takes longer.
Sorry but there's no such thing as "impossible". Or perfect security on a running computer.
It's possible your system has been compromised by malware, or someone installed a keylogger.
Others have already given you the proper steps to take (contact support, check later screens in case your playerslot.txt file is corrupted, etc). -
Because I made one offhand comment and had you jump down my throat assuming my knowledge on the subject was somehow limited and that I wasn't 100% "technically" correct in how I said what I said. Big effing deal. It's a gaming message board, not one of my friggin' business classes in college.
Quote:Sorry, you're not fooling anyone but yourself. You went off on someone over how evil it would be for Paragon to advertise with spam and got called out for obviously misinterpreting another poster's comment, now you're trying to cover your screw up. Badly.
Have fun shadow boxing kiddo. -
Quote:I'm not necessarily against DRM.it seems like the most vocal anti-steam people are the ones that are against any form of DRM. Sadly, DRM is a reality today it's just a matter of whether it's something that does a quick check in or must have a consistent Internet connection even for Single player mode (like D3)
I'm against LOUSY DRM. And most of the DRM schemes in use today are terrible. They treat paying customers like criminals and don't actually inconvenience the real criminals all that much. -
I went Rad/Elec. Works out fairly nice. Can blast and brawl.

Quote:But the original message I replied to talked about sending adverts to your customers. You realize that there are more ways than email to advertise, right?
Paragon doesn't do mass snail-mailings.
They BETTER not be fax bombing.
They're not doing premium text messages either.
They're really buying ads (in the traditional "marquee" on websites.
And while the articles on the game itself could be considered advertising, it isn't a "push" media (we're back to the "sending") portion of what I was replying to.
Nor are Twitter, Facebook, the dev chats. Any of their web presence. It's all marketing to existing customers and hoping to Tim Berners-Lee that someone who ISN'T stumbles across it, and decides to maybe check it out.
Besides that, my (day job) company's primary income is from Customer Relations Managment software support. And while I'm their network admin, I'm probably at LEAST as familiar with the precepts of marketing and various ways to "touch" prospective and existing customers as you are. Possibly even moreso. -
Quote:How much CPU does it use if you have it start up only to start the game and shut down once the game is launched? The "Stone-faced, Soulless" remark was purely a joke, no need to look into it.
Edit: also, actually NCLauncher takes up about 10-11% of my CPU's power while steam averages 0-1%
10% for a couple seconds vs 1% all day long? Pfft. -
Quote:Accept the fact that, below Incarnates, you will NOT be capped against a single opponent. Just won't happen.Done and done...but here's a crazy question: As it stands (without Incarnate powers, which is my kind of...barrier, anything other than what I have once I ding 50 I consider icing on a SMASHy cake), I'm sitting at 44.5 s/l and 42.6 E/N DEF. So close!
But, remember that you're Invuln. With Invincibility, as you jump into progressively bigger groups, your defense shoots up
In short:
Barrier is a biggie. It'll sit there and drive defenses into "Yeah. Go ahead and debuff me schmuck-boy!" range. It also kicks your resists into the stratosphere. So it's a good response if the debuffs start landing hot and heavy.
However, Ageless Radial buffs your endurance, recharge and spikes your debuff resistance.
Quote:Or...maybe swap CJ for Maneuvers, same slotting? That caps S/L, but not E/N, might it be worth the increased END drain?
You're also giving up some of the immobilization protection that's built into CJ.
Honestly, that last build looks COMPLETELY playable and should be an absolute monster. -
Quote:I'm willing to bet that my NCLauncher uses less CPU and memory than Steam does.@Xzero
People also tend to forget that the NClauncher is much worse. Takes up more CPU, not nearly as many features
Why? Because I use it for its primary purpose. Starting up and patching CoH. Nothing more. Once the game launches, NCLauncher shuts down.
As for features. All I want is something that can start up CoH and patch it when it needs patching. Preferably with minimum hassle. The NCLauncher does this in spades.
What do I need Steam for?
Quote:NC does not have sales of their own, cannot get it's name out nearly as well
Quote:few good titles (in my opinion at least) and very few titles to begin with. (Guild Wars, City of, Aion, Lineage I & II, and I think that's it.)
Quote:Oh, also store feature on the NCLauncher doesn't work, at least for me.
Quote:Opening up to steam could be a very nice boon of advertisement and connecting, especially with things like the ability to gift in-game items between eachother. Unfortunately, the decision is actually out of Paragon Studios' hands and in the hands of stone-faced soulless, Korean businessmen. -

01 : Sprint jmp(01)
02 : Rest hel(02)Quote:NOW i do not understand Enhancement Diversification yet, been doing some reading and still cannot comprehend what it all means, im disable so somethings i just cant understand
The long and short is, taking more than 3 of any type of single-aspect enhancement (like a Single Origin or common IO) is almost a complete waste of a slot.
Quote:so for the build above ill be slotting if i remember what i need from the enhancement stores where i buy im quesing are called origins or so's till lvl 50 then try to figure out this Enhancement Diversification stuff,
Later on, 1 Acc (2 if you're REALLY fanatical about making sure you hit things). 2-3 damage, and think about some Endurance Reduction and Recharge Reduction.
So, if you're 6-slotting a damage power:
Acc
Acc
Dam
Dam
EndRed
Rech
Nice accurate power (so you don't waste endurance missing) that hits for "okay" damage, uses less endurance and is up more often.
Or
Acc
Dam
Dam
Dam
EndRed
Rech
Power with OK accuracy (you still miss occasionally) that's pretty much maxed for damage enhancement and still uses less endurance and recharges more frequently.
Quote:Anthing wrong with this build above im going to try, i will be replacing hurdle and super jump to hover and fly?? Not sure how much sloting i need to do for fly and hover
As for Fly. Fly, by default is pretty much giving you maximum flight speed right out of the gate. So throwing a Fly enhancement in there does almost nothing. It's pretty spiffy as a specialty IO mule though. Like a Knockback reduction or Slow resist from one of the universal travel sets. Or a Stealth IO from the Freebird set so you can fly around invisible.
As for hover, what are you looking for with the power? Are you looking for maximum hover speed? Or maximum defense?
Are you even going to USE Hover? If not, just take Fly. You no longer need Hover or Air Superiority as a prereq. -
Well, this still leaves my badger tank out.
Good luck with your runs. -
