#2 Is simply something of a cumulative effect. You have people who no longer need pads farming their brains out, but hiding so they don't get pestered.
  2. What you're seeing is likely the result of a concatenation of multiple things.

    1. A function of the new SSK functionality causing farmers to no longer require pads/fills to a team.
    2. An increase in the number of people using /hide due to the above reason.
    3. Player dispersal to other activities in-game (outside of AE).
    4. Player dispersal to other servers.
    5. Player dispersal to other games (either temporarily or permanently)
    6. A function of time of year (school)
    7. A function of time of day
    8. Some other stuff I'm brain-fart forgetting at the moment.
In short, I don't doubt you're noticing a difference in active population.

IMNSHO, it's a temporary dip that'll rectify itself.

The thing is, you can both decrease the defense of a critter by 50% AND deal out some damage yourself to HELP KILL HIM FASTER. Instead of just increasing JUST your teammates DPS, try increasing the WHOLE TEAM'S DPS.

It's a sorry defender who can't buff/debuff/heal AND attack at the same time.

    I think that's going a bit overboard.

Just because they take our suggestions and don't use all of them doesn't mean they don't think about them. It simply may be that there are other considerations that we aren't aware of or haven't thought of that would monkey-wrench our suggestion from something straightforward and simple into something ugly, hackish, and possibly unfun in corner cases.

Your statement in no way detracts from the fact that "random" means "random".

Or are you one of those poor, misguided souls who thinks that games of chance are essentially "fair" and that it'll eventually "balance itself out".

Also, you do not account for differences in play style or duration.

    Example:

You play for an hour or two every day, and alt regularly. You get a random purple every now and again.

Someone else plays for 4-5 hours a day, solely on their 50's, going after mobs that are able to drop purples and actively farms them. They get them more often because they generate more chances.

And, even if both of you were playing in an identical manner, there's still always the probability that one person will see more drops than others. Again, luck of the draw (random means random).

You're on the right track. Break up your gaming schedule with CoX for a while. Do the "read a book" thing. Go out and see a movie instead. Watch some boob-tube/DVDs, grab the wife (assuming you're married) and...well you get the idea.

If you can't COMPLETELY divorce yourself from the game, try this:

Log in with a specific objective (complete one mission, just follow up on your market transactions, sit and gab for a bit), then log off and do something else for a while.

I have days that I'm sitting there playing and not really having a lot of fun. Mostly it's just short-term burnout. So I gab with a few friends, finish up what I'm doing and log. I come back a day or so later and it's better.

If you have severe burnout, just take the short-term burnout suggestion and do it for a longer period of time.

You must absolutely LOATHE Microsoft software then...

  13. The big issue I ran into last night (other than mapserving from a second zone instance as the last banner goes down, timing out, then being unable to log back into that toon), was inconsiderate people zerging the GM as soon as the last banner goes down before people can arrive from booting downing distant banners.

Faultline is ESPECIALLY bad for this. As one of the banners spawns on the far side of the dam, and you have two door transitions before you're back in the main area. So it can take a LONG time (relatively speaking) to cross a zone.

About the only consolation this year is that the GMs are dropping merits now.

I was able to do Hasten four or five times.

Did the zombies show up because we did so much damage at one place?
This is the Zombie Apocalypse. It's a new (as of last year) zone invasion based on the Rikti Invasion engine.

    Quote:
Also, while I was happy fighting with my pug team, another team was lfm for a banner mission. Is that something I'd need to get a contact to do? It was very easy to recruit last night and if I can't find a banner mish I'd like to just start one.
And this is the brand new Deadly Apocalypse. It's a separate type of zone invasion that requires multiple teams. Essentially, 4 ghostly banners appear at certain points around a zone. You have a couple minutes to assemble teams at one. You then beat on the guardian monsters until you accrue enough downed monsters to make the banners vulnerable. You then beat down the banners themselves. Once they're all down, it spawns a GM that you have to go beat down. Once that's done, you're awarded a choice of temp powers.

There are also giant monster spawns around the various zones too.

Re the first paragraph. The ToT was good xp, the zombie outbreak was crap xp, but I killed over 100 zombies just myself, picking them off before they reached the core of the fighting. Why is that?
ToT is GREAT XP. I leveled the *BLEEP!* out of about 4 toons last year.
The Zombie Apocalpse is primarily a badger thing, BUT, it's great for accumulating prestige for an SG too. Same thing goes for the Deadly Apocalypse.

The GM spawns are lousy XP, but, this year, now that we have merits spawning from GMs, is a PRIMO way to build up tons and tons of merits for recipie rolls and specific purchases.

    Quote:
Are there specific cities that you can ToT in? I didn't notice any in SC, and SC was very easy to pick up members for Bricks in.
Even though the Wiki has been flaky for the last day or so, here's the central page for the 2009 Halloween Event. If the page doesn't come up, give the guys at Titan a little while to beat it into submission.

    Quote:
Last question: I've got two hami costumes, 2 helmets of each kind. A week ago I paid 300k for each to get my fifth costume slot. They're now worth 50k and I can't put them in my vault for storage for when it might go up. I guess I just sell at this low price?
I'd recommend holding onto them. They're cheap right now because the event is going on and ANYONE can assemble the parts with a little effort.

With Event items like the Halloween salvage, you can store up to 999 of them on your person. You can hold onto them for your alts, and/or sell a bunch of them later, once the prices have risen again.

The problem is, the mission statement is misleading. It's really a "defeat all" mission with a twist.

    Quote:
That said, "Get the News Out" is really nuts. It doesn't even function like other object defense missions in the game. Normally you're suppose to take out the guards before enemies come to destroy the objectives. This one is made even worse by the fact that, by this level, enemies can snipe from a ridiculous ways away. You have to run way out and intercept the Nemesis well before they're anywhere near the generators. This is... difficult for a solo player.
One other one is the "Catch the Spy...or not" mission from The Radio. Where as soon as you're within a certain distance from the spy he tries to escape. Whether you've seen him or not.
  17. Because if you're not SB'ing the Granite tank, and causing large green numbers to float up endlessly, you aren't a "real" defender.

Sorry, but you're wrong. Inf is money, however much the devs or anyone else tries to foo-foo it.

You can use it to pay your rent. You use it to buy pretty much ANYTHING in the game. It can be traded, given away, etc. Heck, check the market thread. You can even invest it now.

[quote[I just read on ParagonWiki that the Halloween Salvage will drop from the "Trick" spawns this year, rather than as Treats. My question is, is it likely that a solo player will be able to handle those Trick critters? In other words, will the spawns be too many or too high level for a single (reasonably competent, I hope) level 20-30 solo newbie blaster or scrapper(aka Me) to defeat?[/quote]

If you're in a zone that's in-level for you, you're fine. Mobs will pop up based on your difficulty settings. If you can handle the mobs in a mission, you'll handle the ToT mobs just fine (though their combination of powers might throw you a nasty curve-ball, depending on how you're built).

As noted, the best way to maximize your gains in ToT are to find an area with a lot of doors (the motels are very popular farming spots) and runs run the gauntlet knocking, and wipe mobs as fast as possible.

True. They're somewhat useful when assembling a recharge intensive build. HOWEVER, they're uselesss for builds that are looking to max Defense/Resist/End management. Worse, they can actually exacerbate problems (like End management) on some builds.
