Quote:Actually, if you look at your quote again, it was the author HIMSELF who tacked the "ignorant/jerk" label on.Disagreeing with the author by calling him ignorant and a jerk, etc. IS an attack. Either you did not bother to check what I was quoting, or you have a far different definition of the word "attack" than I do.
Just a bunch of "poor put-upon me" mentality.
About the only thing that even has the ring of truth is the "ignorant" charge.
He's a third-party observer with no real insight, other than imagination, into the business practices and arrangements between NCSoft and Paragon Studios. This, by definition, makes him ignorant.
I claim the same status.
So should you if you're possessed of a clue.
Again, my call for more than a passing perusal of the subject of rhetoric stands.
It's an attack. Yes. Of your argument and the points you're striving to base it on. If you feel this questioning of your argument results in questioning of your own personal validity, this is your problem, not mine. -
Quote:Because we look at opinions differing from our own as that big bad AV that needs have us shake hands with his face.Tanker types are oddly attracted to threads containing the headline "The State Of ....."
Is it because of a want to give a seasoned viewpoint on said state, to rebut misrepresentations?
Sort of odd and silly when you think of it.
Off to start my "The State Of Bacon" thread.

As it's an expansion, it'll probably depend almost entirely on how many copies of GR fly off the shelves, as opposed to how it affects overall sub rates.
-
Any idiot can post something inflammatory and get a response.
And here's mine!
Quote:NCSoft and Massively 11-07-2009 06:42 PM I disapprove.
Quote:Instead of attacking the author, your energy might be better spent helping to shape the GR expansion.
And, for the record, disagreeing with the author is not an "attack". I know rhetoric 101 is tough, but stick with it. You'll learn something. Eventually. -

Quote:I DID have something to say. And I said it. It's not my fault you don't happen to LIKE what I said. But I never promised you that you would.hyperstrike, honestly why bother posting nothing? just move on if you dont have anything to actually say here!
This is just a fancy way of telling me to "shut up".
In a forum devoted to "discussion", this is...well...boneheaded is about the nicest thing I could say.
Quote:and as i ked before any sugestions on how to get more people on guardian and interested in something other than ae?
Advert the crap outta them.
Leave an impression with people that your server, while possibly not populous, is a BUSY server.
And most of all, be FRIENDLY with people who come in.
Or you could try busting out the whips and chains and trying to forcibly drive people to the server.
Yeah! That'll work!
Quote:i know Kool is willing to explore options from his approach to the idea. anyone else want to step outside there tiny little bubble to improve game play for everyone?
Griping about "how dead it is" isn't "stepping outside the bubble".
Trying to harrangue the devs or other players into doing something FOR YOU isnt' "stepping outside the bubble".
Coming up with a plan of action for what YOU can do to draw people into the community YOURSELF is stepping outside the bubble.
And it doesn't always have to be huge and splashy either (though huge and splashy will at least get them "in the door").
You guys already have community leaders. You know who they are. Approach them and offer to assist them. Or augment their efforts with your own. You can make each other's "jobs" easier.
Now if I offended anyone with my harping on the "If you merge my servers I KEEL YOU!" angle, I apologize. I'm just, frankly, sick of that subject and not inclined in any way to be polite or forgiving when someone zombifies it again. -
To hell with your self-aggrandizing PC bovine excrement!
It's TREKKIE. Deal with it. I do, on...a...daily...BASIS!
And anyone who doesn't like it...well...I don't have a less offensive euphemism than rusty trombone...(and yes, I officially went "there") -
-
Quote:That's nice. Unfortunately it still doesn't distract from the fact that server mergers to consolidate population like trying to fill a round hole with a square Buick fired from a railgun. Sure, the hole is filled, but it leaves an awful mess and a ton of collateral damage that most people would find unacceptable.whats sad is that noone has given any idea or sugesstions to help improve the servers deadness, just shot down an idea open to discussion.... any have any decent suggestions regarding increasing server popularity... lets face it the damn place is dead these days and when there are people on its ae babies lost and confused with no idea what to do or how to do it!

Quote:Cut the doom.Out of curiosity, can anybody name even one proposed feature that the developers have put on a timeline for after Going Rogue? I can't think of one.
How much in the way of proposed features for issues 14, 15, and 16 were put out after issue 12?
Also, don't ignore the fact that GR is a fairly massive undertaking (6-8 months here).
Once we get closer to the timeframe of GR going live, we'll hear about stuff coming after.
Also, look at how badly the base editing population boiled over with the retraction of the new base editor.
Why would they start heaping MORE onto their plate right now when the plate is already overflowing? Especially if something they promise gets kicked back further or dropped for some other reason?
Oh yeah. Because they're masochists who LIKE having their player-base tear chunks out of them for stupid reasons!
Also, as to your request for metrics. The correct answer for that is "Buy enough stock to make that demand. Until then, it's none of your damn business." -
Well...

Quote:How dare you bring time travel into this!I know what will kill CoH:
1. Go back in time to about half a year after CoH is first released so that the new shininess has worn off.
2. Put a MMORPG on the market with a more popular genre from a more well known company with a proven IP.
3. Grow that other MMORPG into a monster that has over 10 million subscribers.
Now *that* will surely kill CoH!

Quote:As someone who owns and runs a company dealing, day in and day out, with professional artists and writers, I can quite confidently tell you that you don't have the slightest notion about the subject you're raving on.Yes it should be easy. They have professional writters already, so coming up with the story shouldnt be the hardest part for them.
And I will leave it there. -
Quote:So damned if they do, damned if they don't. Plus Paragon is left holding the baggage of trying to prove a negative if there really is no such benchmark, or one hasn't been expressed to them.If we get an answer that says, "there is no deadline and there are no metrics," we're going to assume that you're lying to us, and even if you're not, there very probably isn't anything you can do to convince us otherwise, not after all the times NCsoft has lied about this subject in the past.

Quote:No. The game won't FAIL. It may not pull in tons of new customers, but it won't necessarily fail because of that.I totally agree with EvilRyu. We don't work inside NCSoft or Paragon Studios, but we can tell from our personal dislike of the last few issues, this game will FAIL if Going Rogue doesn't sell well.
COULD it fail because of an atrociously bad GR flop? Sure!
COULD it fail because of an asteroid come hurtling down and flatten Paragon Studios with everyone in-house and working? Sure!
Is like LIKELY? Not at this point. GR, from the little we've seen of it thus far, is looking to be a decent addition to the game. Sure, it's not "We rewrote the graphics package using the Unreal Engine", but so what?
Content, as Ryu defines it, is new missions and arcs. That's great. It's something that people tear through in a couple weeks. Then it's "old" and people begin beeyotching about it again. Revamping content is simply exacerbating the problem.
Quote:It makes SENSE! -
I'm sorry, that's bull. They've introduced several major systems into the game. Sure, there isn't TONS of content falling from the sky because of it. But to characterize it as "garbage" is completely uncalled for.
Quote:Considering how easy it is for you guys to make missions (from just looking at how the AE is) there is no reason why we shouldnt have had *** loads of dev content post AE.
You have to have or create a contact.
You have to place a previously unplaced contact.
You have to add the mission/arc to their missions list.
You have to set it up so that it properly pulls a door somewhere in the zone.
Plus a bunch of other stuff I probably don't know about or am just too lazy right now to logic-chain my way through.
Also, ask some of the authors who spend days/weeks getting their missions tweaked just SO, how easy it is to turn out "good" content at a rapid pace. -
Quote:My favourite comment there is "Champions 5 years from now will be a far better game than CoH is today."
Basically, they're saying that it'll take 5 years for Champions to be better than CoH, provided CoH stops updating today...
I'm not one for the whole CO vs CoH thing, but that made me laugh
I loved stupid blog they linked to.
CO is out, CoH is DOOOOOOOMED!
Aion is out, CoH is DOOOOOOOMED!
ST MMO is coming out, CoH is DOOOOOOOMED!
[INSERT HERE] is coming out, CoH is DOOOOOOOMED!
This has been trumped up again and again (and again and again!) and still hasn't happened.
Will CoH take a hit from it? Sure! It's another product competing for people's entertainment dollar.
How bad will it be? Nobody knows. Because it's not simply a matter of "new, shiny, better, SQUIRREL!"
It also ignores the two key issues.
1: Some people wind up coming back.
2: Some people wind up playing BOTH.
The whole marketing equation for MMOs (of which CoH is a prime example) is not an immutable binary equation (stay forever/leave forever).
The blog, and Massively failing to understand this is what causes their "point" to face-plant at something above terminal velocity. -
Quote:OSX is essentially a non-standard BSD distribution running a on top of a Microkernel (though, with the advent of x86, this may have changed to a more standard, monolithic BSD x86 kernel, I don't know, as I don't dig into OSX or OSx86 at all). And on topic, isn't Mac OS Linux / Unix based now and if so could you use something like WINE to handle Mids?
And no. Currently there are several .NET features that simply aren't supported on WINE yet. -
Quote:I have a Grav/Kin in the 40 range. Mostly from solo'ing.I'm interested in making a grav but i've read a few unpleasant things about the set.
Is it a bad set to be relegated to thematic builds only or is it worthwhile as a solo troller?
Some of the early levels are a bit tough and a little slow.
Once you start coming into your AOE holds, it starts coming together.
And once you get Singularity, it quite literally can DOUBLE your effectiveness.
And, being a /Kin, my current build is just one endless fountain of endurance and Fulcrum Shift. -

Quote:Shhh! Your attempts at rationality are not appreciated here! Let them get back to nailing you to a tree with long nails in peace!Well, I haven't been working on this game for 5 years...so I'll only accept responsibility for the inability to walk since about May of 2006. I'd like to get a buy for being the only VFX artist/animator on both CoH/CoV up until about 2 years ago as well...most of which was eaten up with power customization, training our new employees, and working on other stuff for the game.
This has taken a long time simply because it's never been deemed important enough to be actually scheduled...instead it's been put together kind of piecemeal over time.
