Quote:Purposely interfering with another SOLO player's gameplay without consideration of whether they want your interference is griefing.
I've already stated that there is a distinction between TEAM play and SOLO play. Quit trying to twist my words around.
Respect and consideration for other players would dictate that you ASK the SOLO player if they want assistance.
"Want some buffs?"
"sure"
*buff*
"Want some buffs?"
"no ty"
"kk. gl."
It's not about "playing your toon the way it was intended", save that for TEAMing. It's about respect and consideration for other players, especially if you are not teamed with them.
And on the flip side
"Want a buff?"
"Y"*DEAD!*
"Want a buff?"
"N"*DEAD!*
The rage over minutiae like this is merely a sign one has nothing better to do. -
Quote:If you want to solo, solo a mission. For those that wish to merely solo and be left alone, or whom are testing new builds, new tactics, or other such things, you are actively not helping, and telling us we're wrong for not liking your interference because you are "being helpful" is, frankly, rude.
If you want to be left alone, solo a mission.
If you want to test a new build, test it in a clean environment (see "solo a mission").
If you want to test tactics, test it in a mission.
VERY simple. If you're out in a public zone, expect interacting with other players.
(See: "Well duh".)
No, but damning people for giving in to the samaritan instinct is poor form...at best.Quote:You may act with the best of intentions, but that does not mean you are always "helping". -

Quote:Massively MULTIPLAYER Online Role Playing GameYes, I can obviously take pains to compensate for the fact that someone has come by and screwed with my game. That doesn't make the situation any less annoying.
If you want to be left alone, go play GTA or something. Or *gasp*, use an instanced mission.
Fighting mobs out in the open in a zone is implicit consent to interaction with other players (including buffs).
In other words "Just lay back and try to enjoy it".
...
Now that I've delved into a completely inapproriate meme...
Statement of the obvious? Check!Quote:But this is a game.
They're not "playing it for you". And the fact that you look on it as such shows the lack of objectivity on the issue.Quote:Playing the game is the entire point.
So, when they try to grab the mouse and keyboard away from you, put a fist in their face. Until then, they're simply doing something you're giving tacit consent to SIMPLY BY BEING IN THE GAME IN A PUBLIC ZONE.Quote:If someone tries to PLAY THE GAME FOR ME, they're not doing something nice even if they think they are.
They have no control over what does or does not annoy you.Quote:They're just annoying you.
YOU do. Again, if you don't want to be "annoyed", do your thing in a mission instance. Quick, easy, simple. Absolutely no nerdrage required. -

Maybe I misunderstand what you're trying to say, but the current rate IS 500:1.Quote:But even if you got to say 500:1 for buying, would think thats a good rate ? -
Quote:Anyone else in your SG? Anyone who might have gotten the badge?http://wiki.cohtitan.com/wiki/Rikti_...e_Beacon_Badge
Hmmph....that's...wierd.
I'm sure I dont have Unabashed on my Crab Spider, and I DO have the RWZ in my VG.
*shrug* I could see WHY it isn't included, though. -
Quote:Un-true. My Crab Spider and my Tanker have never ship-raided, yet both earned all the SG teleporter beacons.
I'll correct it. You have to obtain the last exploration badge necessary for the teleporter beacon, you have to access the Rikti Mothership during a raid.
So while you may not be participating in the raid per-se, you're taking advantage of the fact that there is a raid going on. -
Quote:Honestly, I wouldn't waste the time or money going after a laptop to play UM. While it may be super-schmexy and all, the return is relatively small for the massive cash-outlay it would require. My guy said the way Posi makes it sound is that UM on high would just melt the laptop.
I was willing to spend up to 1500.00$ on a sweeeeeeeeeeeeeet laptop... which would be an enormously better laptop than I have now. But, with the way he makes it sound I would have to wait til Nvidia comes out with a FERMI series 100ish? for laptops >.<
Was a real downer for me.
Now, if you want a laptop that'll run maxed in REGULAR mode, that would be well within your budget and eminently doable by a large number of laptops out there.
If you want portable play, go for a laptop and to hell with top-end graphics.
If you want top-end graphics, get a desktop. -

Quote:the last server merge i was an active part of was on dungeons & dragons online before it went free to play. The almighty (and sick and twisted devs (i still love you patience!)) decided (with i believe to be some hilarious glee and laughter) to stick the powergamer server, xoriat, with the roleplay server, thelanis.
Yeah.
Quoting me from the ddo forums:
Quote:that first week after the merge was a blast.
Player 1- oh, the dungeon walls are slick with moss and slime, yet we shall ever persevere in the face of untamed evil, only those true of heart and valor will overcome the vils contained within these walls...
Player 2- optionals?
Player 3- sure!
Player 1- surely the foul stench of chaos is afoot here, i must tread carefully...
Quest complete!

We're not asking you. You're putting forth an opinion that a lot of people are disagreeing with.
Since you're on an account registered in the last couple months...when would that have been? Or are you not posting from your primary account for a reason?Quote:I miss the days when I would wake up and find a group any time of the day, morning or night. And almost none of the maps were empty.

End? What EXACTLY are you talking about? The game is due for a major expansion in the relatively near future. Merging the servers would accomplish nothing but chasing even more people off. Re-read Memphis Bill's quoted post again for the reason.Quote:I understand all good things must come to an end, but a server merger would be a great way to slow that process down.
That's just it. People don't WANT CoH to be "what it used to be" (unless they're PVP'ers of course...). They want it to IMPROVE. Cutting down the number of servers would NOT be an improvement.Quote:With the new expansion coming and merged servers, CoH could be pretty close to what it used to be.
You didn't ask for specificity. Just the opinion.Quote:Thanks for being specific.Quote:Nah
This to the infinite power.Quote:Originally Posted by LeandroIf you think FREEDOM, of all places, is empty, no amount of server merging will ever help you. You're just not looking for team in the right places. The maps (aka. zones) are ALWAYS going to feel empty; people play on instances, not in the game world.
I play on Protector. It's a low-to-middling population server. I CAN say that.Quote:Originally Posted by Coldmedtry not being on freedom and say that..
I play on Freedom as well as lower pop servers. It shouldn't happen. And it doesn't need to happen. PERIOD!Quote:just cause your on the highest poulation server doesnt mean it shouldnt happen or doesnt need to happen.

You have no way of knowing "only" 900 people are on. And if he said 2000 people were on you'd be using that, with an "only" tacked onto the front.
This is you talking from le rectum again. You don't know this. You have ZERO way of knowing this. Sorry.Quote:subscriptions are low period

Quote:This is one of the reasons I laugh at "gaming NICs". Especially for home users with only a couple devices between them and their provider's network. On a really noisy network, yeah, they'll eke out a few seconds lower ping in twitch games. For everything else, they may as well be using an integrated NIC and just setting port priorities on your router.Ok, just found an interesting post in the Killer Xeno forums that directly relates to this. They got some odd results.
Initially, they weren't able to get past the Server Select screen with the NIC in Game Mode. They set the NIC to Application Mode and were able to connect. After getting out of the game they set it back to Game Mode and it still connects, through multiple reboots and various other activity.
If you right-click that Killer Tray Icon you will see an option for Application Mode so just select it and try to connect. If it allows you to play, go ahead and enjoy it. You may want to try setting it back to Game Mode after that and see if it will work, as it did for the QA guy for Bigfoot Networks (manufacturer of the NIC).
Don't take my word for it though. -
Quote:It's a case of spend it now and get greater usable longevity out of the base system. The more I read about it, the more I'm puzzled by people's choice of the beefy i7 cores. Assuming the most intensive thing this machine is going to be doing is gaming...I'm not seeing the benefit on price-point...but hey, it's your money.
Yeah, they're paying a premium, but buying another computer in 3 years as opposed to 5 is a hell of a price premium too. -
Quote:You may need to look at a different case. The case you're using is about quarter of an inch deeper (front bezel to back plate) than the Antec Sonata cases. And those BARELY fit cards the size of the 250 (found out the hard way with a Sonata case of my own) with the hard drives slid in sideways (rather than front to back). You're very likely to have problems fitting your components. It's tax time and I am finally going to be able to build my new pc. Was going to do it last year but stuff came up and put that on hold. Anyway, it's based on Father X-Mas's $600 build with a few tweaks here and there and based on my research all parts should work together fine. Just wanted any last input from the techies out here before I order the parts. Here is the link to it.

Let me know. Thanks.
Not sure how big you want to go. But my advice is to do yourself a favor. Get yourself a roomier case and don't hassle with trying to play component Tetris.
This is the case I built my latest system with. The system went together in 20 minutes. My previous system which was virtually identical (save for a Sonata 3 case) took almost 3x as long due to trying to fit everything in neatly. And replacing components in such a case? It's more expensive than the case you selected, but it's a case of "get what you paid for". -
Quote:I get the same behavior with my WinXP 64 box. The only think hooked up via USB is the mouse.Do you have anything else hooked up to USB besides a mouse? Even a hard drive or a hub can cause the USB bus to reset occasionally, cutting off the audio.
Now I just play on speakers with the sound turned down. It just sucks that I have to. -
Quote:Just want to see what you guys will say. I know, how will they stay alive? Same way a Blasters hehe. Maybe they can have more HPs : o
I just want a SS/MA guy : P I think it would be cool.
No, because blasters aren't Melee/Melee either. They depend on their ranged attacks and have a couple of OH *BLEEP!* melee powers if their enemies close on them.
This would simply be a blapper who has no recourse but to run into mobs that'll make hash of him because he CAN'T damage them any other way.
No, no, a googolplex of infinity times no! -
Quote:From what I understand, there's a reason there's not.I wish I could buy that, but I can't due to the fact that CoV is no where close as far as content goes. Granted CoV has more quality and CoH has more quantity, but it's far from a level playing field. Get back to me when there is a villain version of a Quaterfield.
During CoV's development, they were focusing on leaner, tighter storytelling because people were complaining about lengthy, drawn-out arcs sending you to the four corners of the city, then to go looking for a few extra misplaced corners.
With CoV, they got exactly what they designed for. It's just that NOW, with the way the merit system focuses on "time spent", such short arcs simply don't deliver the amount of merits some of the "don't plan on anything for the next X hours" arcs blue-side do.
Look at the Barracuda SF (30 merits) vs the Khan TF (20 merits).
Why? Because you've suddenly remembered that cattle prod you have stowed under your desk? -
Congrats on the new position. Have you embraced your contractually mandated dev-hate of villains yet?
