[QUOTE=Tonality;2575744]I thought there were safeguards against doing these kinds of things.
Namely, I couldQuote:For text formatting and inserting images sure.do something like this[/QUTE] and forget a letter and it would ignore it because I didn't close off the tag.
For stuff actual page layout elements? Not that I know of. -

Quote:How about this one? Took about 5 minutes and isn't PERFECT, but hey.Well fail on you then >_>
I didn't make the original (sadly) and I can't get the damn thing to work with a transparent background. It just comes up white, which look even worse.
So, at least 50% of people get it
You needed a file format that does transparency (JPEG doesn't). You can use either GIF or PNG (I chose PNG because there's less color degradation).
-
No. Because the forums already use tables as part of the layout.
And, badly used, can completely break the forums. All it takes is one unclosed tag to screw it up. -
Quote:Just to update, the compressed air did the trick! What was weird was that there was almost no visible dust in the vents, and I saw very little dust come out after the first puff. But when we rebooted, it went from 80 C at idle with the fan constantly running, to 40 C at idle and 50 C under load. *Huge* difference!
So I guess the moral of the story is just because you can't *see* the dust doesn't mean it isn't there causing a problem.
Thanks again!
What you probably had was a nice little clump of it around the CPU. While you didn't blow the entire thing out, you probably broke it up enough that it's no longer acting like a piece of insulation.
Just give it a spritz every month or three and it should stay clean(ish). -
Quote:So far Defiant server seems empty. I've seen one other player.
When exactly do you play? It's possible that you're on and playing at a "dead" time on the server.
The two highest population servers are Freedom and Virtue. Most of the rest swap up and down the list at random. But even these tend to have lulls in activity on weekdays during "regular business hours". -
They're not telling you your PC sucks. They're merely warning you that, because your system is closer to the "minimum" or "recommended" specs (that are now several years old), you visual experience may be somewhat less thrilling than someone with an quad-core i7 with SLI'ed GTX280 rig.

Scrapper: Here ya stupid blaster. Here's a couple purples in compensation.
Blaster: Ooooooh! Hit me again! -
AFAIK, you can only kick members who aren't actively online. You can't promote or demote them.

As Muon said, it sounds like dust buildup is the problem.
Before you take it apart, try just blasting the fan ports with some compressed air to see if you can break up the buildup a bit.
Short bursts. If you try to long-burst it, you could damage the internals.
Also try small blasts between the spaces on the keyboard as well.
Try inverting the machine and doing it again.
Oh, and the machine should be OFF when you're doing this of course... -
Quote:As someone who has the...privilege of working with professional writers, most of the time they're their own worst proofreaders. And no, spellcheck doesn't always count.This. For an arc written by an author I enjoy and respect, this was considerably more disappointing for me than it would have been otherwise.
OTOH, sometimes there are transcription errors by the person entering the mission (Aeon?). Also, have someone like Misty tell you EXACTLY how many drafts her first books went through (I dare ya). -
Quote:Oh yes. This one was DEFINITELY in Misty's "tone". New Diana Tregarde material. Excellent!
Arc Name: Mystery on the Boardwalk
Author: Mercedes Lackey
Arc ID#: 369275
Arc Description: Unbelievable Man is stuck on the phone with his needy girlfriend, so the Heroic ATemps Temp Agency has sent you over to handle this. It's only a little haunting, how hard can it be?
Probably NOT the best one to run my tank through on +0/x8 at L30 (completely defense capped, but damage output, solo, was in the toilet). The only thing that even hurt me was the boss at the end.
I was actually able to get up and walk away from the computer.
Not sure if this is damning of the arc or just kudos for my tank. -
Quote:When I say Magical Girl, I mean like one of those female anime heroes like Sailor Moon or Pretty Sammy.
So which power set would be best for someone in that style? Flame powers from the Tank powerset or flame powers from the Blaster powerset? (Or maybe something else!)
My stalker "Stabbitha" is based on a Dark Magical Girl concept.
She was on her way to a Magical Girl academy and somehow got switched with a girl being sent off to an assassin's school. Due to her superior skills and powers, she graduated early, annihilated her class and teachers, and is now in the process of testing herself against tougher and tougher opponents. She's in Paragon (and the Isles) to test her killing skills against superhuman targets.
Name: Stabbitha
Class: Stalker
Primary: Dual Blades
Secondary: Willpower
Aux 1: Fitness
Aux 2: Leaping
Patron: Soul Mastery -
Again though, if they're low to high, you just keep going until you get to the appropriate level. And it's not like you're doing "I need an L25+ zone", you're usually doing something like "I need to get to Croatoa".

Quote:Outstanding work on the base... Thanks for your efforts. The only suggestion I can make concerning the portals is to put them in alphabetical order. That way I think it is easier to find then trying to remember the order they are in now.
That is our my SG has their portals set up and it works well, espcially since most of ur are in other SG's... just an idea
Actually, I was thinking about going based on level. -
Quote:That's griefing.Except I've had people give me a particular buff even after I've asked them not to. At that point, they either don't care or is an idiot. I leave the determination to the reader as to what they are.
Randomly buffing someone, unasked, and who isn't blatantly adverting that they don't want to be buffed isn't.
That's your computer telling you something. FIX ME!Quote:Except, of course, if you have a computer that will crash when you are given a particular buff.
Nothing wrong with that. I tend to ask not to be speed boosted as well because I have all the subtle motor control of a brick traveling at supersonic velocity. But if someone gives me a drive-by, I don't gripe.Quote:In addition, even though I have a better system than when I started this game, I still sometimes request that I don't get a Speed Boost buff because it does negatively affect my game in certain circumstances. -
Quote:Again, if it's happening on one machine, possibly tied to issues with a specific video card being unable to handle it, it's the machine. Were the machine built differently, it might not be happening.Or perhaps a faulty bit of code in the game that runs a procedure too often causing a stack overflow because the CPU/GPU just can't keep up. It would be happening apparently randomly that programmers would never be able to detect it normally.
All in all, silly to blame innocent people your (generic "you") machine's failings. -
Quote:Defense is, technically, more desirable. But keep in mind that anything that gets through your defense is going to wreck you. Resistance will help reduce the amount of damage you take when you get hit. If you can find a way to layer the two, in a way that doesn't completely compromise your firepower, you'll probably see a better return than slightly higher levels of one or the other. So a follow up question then. DEF or RES? My gut tells me... okay my gut's confused. I would presume DEF still is better, but I think there may be some villain types that can get past high DEF. Is the same true for RES, or is RES "always active," meaning if a hit gets through, it is always reduced by some mathematical formula. If I had to pick one, again, because of base HP, I'd have to say highest DEF should be my highest priority.

Quote:I've been running my own solo level-locked characters on Guardian and occasionally posting items in the Mid-Level Crisis Generated Stuff thread. Is that OK? I am intentionally throwing some mid-level stuff into the market without being a member of the SG or even on Freedom.
The more the merrier. The more stuff put on the market in these levels, the healthier things should be. -
First off, if this is necromancing the thread, sorry. This is about the only place I could make sure MLC guys would see it. Now, on with the shoe!
Okay, I know that some of the people given base edit rights are busy with stuff. But a "just put stuff down" base makes my fingers itch. And my fingers are VERAH itchy.
So, I hooked our venerable SG super-leader and wrestled him into submission for base edit rights. It went something like this:
Flamin' Trolla: Can I haz base edit rights? Pleasepleasepleasepleaseplease?
Protection Racket: Sure!
* You have been promoted to Line Manager
* You have been promoted to Manager
* You have been promoted to Vice President
* You have been promoted to Director
Flamin' Trolla: Thanks!
High-res (1920x1080) versions of these pics can be found here.
Anyhow, the SG had in excess of 2 million prestige. So I had QUITE a bit of wiggle room.
First off, I upgraded to the 8x12 plot.

As you can see, it's really meant to be three functional corridors.

Down the left, the workshop areas.

Down the right, the transport areas. And yes, now now have our own array of teleport bays.

In order from far right (north).
- Steel Canyon
- Talos Island
- Atlas Park
- Pocket D
- Skyway City
- Kings Row
- Independence Port
- Peregrine Island
- Founders falls
- Rikti War Zone
- The Hollows
- Faultline
- Brickstown
- Croatoa
- Perez Park
- Dark Astoria
Lastly, the main corridor is the Infirmary. Right now it's got a whopping ONE reclaimator in it. But it's right next to the Inspie storage which'll do until we can come up with an Auto-Doc.

And yes, since we had the prestige, I splurged and built us a Turbine generator. We should be more than good for base power for quite a while with this.

Finally, I dropped the supercomputer in for more compact control and finished it off with an Pillar.

As such, MLC is an effectively self-sufficient base now. Thanks largely to the hard work of everyone out there running in SG mode.
Also, you'll note, we're still in more or less the same basic color/style scheme we were originally. I'm not Mr. Super-Schmexy Base Design guy. I'm a "The base works, it's functional, and usable" kinda guy.
I also more or less left the workshops alone as to what storage items went in which room. If there's some over-arching organization that I cannot see, somebody tell me. If not, I'm going to probably clean them up a bit so they're less cluttered and obstructive.
Also, we still have 133K prestige socked away against future rent payments. I've also updated the MOTD. The base isn't really something you could get lost in or anything. But popping in the first time might corn-fuse people if they aren't ready for the changes.
Again, if you have suggestions, let me know here or in-game.
If you hate it and want something different, again, lemme know. I have almost zero pride on this. I just want to make the base something useful for everyone.
In-game, just shoot a tell at @Hyperstrike1. -
Quote:Sophistry. If a normal gameplay action (in whatever game) causes you to crash out of the game, your system isn't stable. Be it bad hardware, bad drivers, bad interaction of hardware or drivers with the game itself.I apparently have the wrong brand of video card, and CoX doesn't like it much, so rapid graphic changes tend to cause the game to crash.
My computer is not unstable. CoX is the only game I have this issue with.
Possibly. If your system is bombing to the desktop if someone applies SB, being able to remove it won't necessarily fix this. It's been applied. *KABOOM*. No chance.Quote:But really, this would be easily solved by giving us a way to remove or avoid buffs manually, and then we wouldn't need to have this conversation.
Avoid? Maybe. -
-
If you wish to politely ask afterwards not to be buffed, that's fine. Nerdraging on them though...
So, because your computer is unstable, it's the would-be samaritan's fault?Quote:And for the record, I have been defeated and had my game crash because of random Speed Boosts before.
