  1. Okay, I had another response up here and took it down because it was not constructive.

Let me try to reiterate the point I initially was trying (and apparently failed to an nth degree) to make.

My initial response was not to the later points that the devs "eventually" listen to people. My use of the fact that they were listening during the changes made in beta was merely a highlight that that the devs were listening all along. Whether you feel they were or not.

My original point was disagreement with the conceit that they put together the initial interface in a vacuum of player input.

Interface design is a a VERY involuted process. Initial iterations are pretty universally craptastic. Even with direct input from end users.

    Why?

1: Implementing features isn't always straightforward. Even with well written dissertations on what is desired.

2: Some of the things desired aren't always spelled out or neatly and exactingly defined.

3: Sometimes people change their minds about certain things.

    "I want feature A".
    "Here ya go."
"God! That sucks AND is useless! Maybe what I REALLY wanted was A+Tweakage, or maybe B."

4: Coming up with an initial interface is a piece of cake. Tweaking it into something the users actually want to use is where all the screaming, and beating of heads against walls comes in.

5: Until you actually get it into the hands of end users to play with, you can't get real, cogent feedback, nor do they have the facilities available to them to provide it.

In the initial interface I saw in closed beta, I saw conscious attempts to rectify things that people had been griping about in the original market UI and deliver things that had been talked about.

Yeah, the initial results were horrific and needed serious work (and in some cases still do). But I'll be damned if you're going to tell me the devs just pulled it all out of their *** with no user input.

I apologize if you thought (or still think) I was saying something else. I'm not always as verbally precise in my rhetoric as I should be and shouldn't take it out on you when you misunderstand.

And I will reiterate this point. Simply because features were not implemented at the speed YOU felt they SHOULD be doesn't mean you were not being listened to.

I know, I know. A very fine, nuanced point to try to grasp. So why try?

I disagreed with ONE (singular, uno, solo, one-less-than-two, one-more-than-zero) point in his entire post. Therefore I posted SPECIFICALLY about that one point.

The rest of the post I more or less was in agreement with.

But hey, why let that stop you?

When was the last time you took a nice big can of compressed air and blew the crap out of the machine?

Also, if this is a commodity desktop machine (usually not a name brand), you may be able to get by with adding another fan to the setup if you can get one to blow directly onto the card.

What are the make/model/specs of your machine? We might be able to come up with something sneaky/clever to help fix this.

    ***ADDENDUM***

Got to read the rest of the thread and figured you already answered it.

What may have happened is that the thermal interface material (TIM) between the chip and the heatsink has gotten old and isn't functioning properly anymore.
It's possible to pull the heatsink assembly off, clean off the TIM (usually some kind of adhesive pad), and reassemble it with a fresh application of thermal compound (or thermal adhesive). But this all depends on your personal comfort level with doing this and how much the time is worth to you to actually do this..

If you're not comfortable with that, a replacement of the same type of card from Newegg will be about $40-50.

However, keep in mind that a GeForce 7300 (assuming your card is AGP) would be between $5 and $10 more.

Okay, I have reservations about the market interface too.

    But this is just BS.

Several of the things you see in the market interface are a DIRECT result of suggestions for improvement that were made during beta. While I'm not a huge fan of the new interface, it's still MUCH improved from what was seen under closed beta.

The devs are NOT ignoring people and they ARE trying to be accommodating with the new interface. Simply because all changes don't materialize instantly doesn't mean they aren't listening.

No. Actually SSK was a way to avoid PL, bridging, and mentor-tetris. It made organizing an already-formed team easier. It made the team easier to keep going if someone dropped.

It didn't make it any easier or harder to actually form a team.

    Quote:
I mean the game used to have good teaming, so something that made it even easier should make teaming breathtakingly wonderful, instead of meagerly passable - that is unless the improvement was being used to offset a noticeable decrease in teaming.
Teaming prior to SSK was "okay". I remember playing a lot of mentor-tetris on my teams to get people in the proper level ranges so that everyone could actually benefit from the mission. Calling it "good" would be a bit generous.

Now I don't HAVE to worry about what level someone is and if they're one level too high or too low.

No. With an End crash and toggle drop, I can still eat blues and keep on trucking.

If you stop me from being able to attack, I die. Period.

Think about a team of 8, all running maneuvers.

    Tank/Brute? Who needs one?

And while I'm not overly fond of the "tripping over all the pets" style of play on large teams, DS is the first MM set I can actively get into. Mostly because I, personally, do more than just stand there and buff-bot the pets.

I think we're already seeing some variety. On the few teams I've run with, we've had the "I'm a demon, you're a demon, he's a demon, she's a demon, wouldn't you like to be a demon too?" guys. Sure. But I've seen a couple of nice, creative concepts outside of this.

    Here's my little homage character.

Not everyone is in the "That's why we're called DEEEE-MONS! And not the Easter Bunny!" mode.
  14. The only REAL problem I'm having with the market thus far is the bid persistence. Combined with the lag from the market it's going to start costing people. Bigtime.

With the previous interface, you could enter numerous bids quite quickly and set up a number of sales just as quickly.

Now it's more like Enter sale price SELL Next Item waitwaitwaitwaitwaitwait Alter price if needed SELL Next Item waitwaitwaitwaitwaitwait...

In short, it's aggravating as #@*&!

Sharker, nVidia stopped giving driver updates out for the 5* FX series after 175.19. The newer versions are 6* FX and later.
  16. And another successful run tonight!

    Again, full gallery available here.

I'd like to thank everyone who was able to make it out tonight.

And I'd especially like to thank Bionic Flea for letting us co-opt his missions with Keith Nance and Jenni Adair. Loads of fun. Just wish the cloneage was dupes of everyone on the team instead of just Flea himself.

We ran Keith at +0x0 and it was like using a tacnuke to disperse a mob. Quote for the night happened in the first mission after we melted down an entire mob including Freak tanks in about 3 seconds.

Fork in Microwave: I'd heard stories but jeeze!

Yet another Fire/Rad fanatic in the making!

I'm already looking forward to next Monday!

One quick question for you, Hyper:

Do you have a build order or a link to one for a "Super Team oriented Fire/rad"? Scortched was asking me what powers he should take, and my mind was already counting sheep during that final mission!

    ((Editted to add))

btw, this is BTU here (or Zero on the Fire/rad nights!)

Okay, a teaming Fire/Rad build has lots of space.

    Recommended Powers
    1: Char
    1: Radiant Aura
    2: Fire Cages
4: Accelerate Metabolism (3-slot for recharge ASAP)
    8: Hot Feet
    12: Flashfire
    28: Choking Cloud
    32: Fire Imps

    Other nice things to have:

    Optional Powers
Radiation Infection (Debuffs to-hit and defense)
Enervating Field (Debuffs damage and damage resistance)
    Cinders (AoE Hold)
    Stamina
Mutation (For the rare occasions when someone faceplants so they can avoid slowing you down with a hospital run)

Post has a "how's my build look" thread up in the controller section and Local Man provided a decent breakdown of power selections there.
  19. Excellent!

Yeah, we'll meet on the hill in Talos.

I'm currently running a GTX 260 on WinXP x64. It performs admirably at 1920x1080. Only in a couple places (like the lower city in Cap Au Diable) do I get stuttering.

You'll want a PSU with a miminum rating of 500 Watts and a pair of 6-pin PCI-E power connectors.

As for memory. I'd recommend 4GB. Memory's cheap nowadays.

Also, if you're upgrading to Windows 7, be aware that it's a clean system install (no running it over the top of what you have now to upgrade). If so, do some checking with your other apps and hardware for 64-bit Windows compatibility. Unless you have a showstopper, I'd recommend going Windows 64-bit.

    Quote:
It's not just me that has noticed the lack of players. A few veterans that have recently returned to the game had come to the very same conclusion. Numerous of my global friends are gone and they will likely will not return.
So you've noticed the mysterious phenomenon known as turnover (aka churn).

    Quote:
I recently had a conversation about this very subject with a friend and she told to me that quite a few people left because of the infinite farming exploits that were present shortly after the release of the Missions Architect. I was aware of that, because i was one of them. However, even more left once AE farming eventually was addressed. Since so many players got spoiled by the constant farming and power leveling. Anyway, the population of this server and other servers in general have quite clearly dropped since the last time i played the game.
    Quote:
I just simply was wondering what the reasons behind it were.
State reasons for possible mass exodus events from the game.
Then wonder what might be the reasons for possible mass exodus events.

So, please spare me you arm chair lectures on how i should be playing the game.
Again. Never said how you should be playing the game. Merely noted that there are several styles of play that will result in unsatisfactory teaming for you.

If you choose to ignore this advice, that's your own problem.
