Quote:No. No it doesn't.Lol, yeah that annoys me to no end also.
I should have also mentioned that it doesn't just happen to me. It happens to most if not all of the people that I have talked to. That means it's server side.
Again, simply because behavior of a network client app is reproducible across multiple hardware and software platforms and network configurations doesn't mean the problem is the server.
I do this (network architecturing, implementation, and oversight) for a living. Please at least believe I MIGHT know what I'm talking about. -
Quote:I'm getting mightily annoyed that starting up the game doesn't trigger a bevy of lovely, immoral young women knocking on my door asking if they can help me out with anything...What do you guys think is the main thing that annoys people and should be immediately addressed?

WHAT?

Check your memory utilization after each of your missions. If you start leaking into 1.5+ GB territory, take the time to restart. You're going to crash. PERIOD.Quote:My pet peeve is stability. I'm tired of crashing every time I run the RSF and try to enter the final mission for the first time of that run.
There are a couple areas throughout the game that just cause your machine to come to a screeching *** halt. Luckily there aren't THAT many of them. I'm not sure what the devs could do about lag hill other than creating special cape-less Cimeroran mobs specifically for Lag Hill or significantly depopulating the zone instance.Quote:I'm tired of lag (the valley in the ITF comes to mind). I run on a high-end computer that I keep upgrading thinking that if I have a faster computer the game will run faster and all of these things will either go away or be greatly diminished.
It might. It might not.Quote:That hasn't been my experience. I don't run in ultra mode because I think it would only exacerbate the situation.
Simply because something happens predictably doesn't mean it's server side issues.Quote:I know that this a problem on the server side because it always seems to happen under the same circumstances.
Note: I'm not saying it IS NOT a server side issue. Just that you have no data to support your hypothesis. -
Okay, board's acting weird.
Try this again.
Apologies for not making it this weekend guys. I made the one last weekend and was a complete zombie at work that night. This week I HAD to be awake and alert. Hopefully I can make the next one. -
If I am a winner, I permit NC Interactive, Inc. and NCsoft Europe Limited to use my name, likeness, photograph, hometown, and any comments that I may make about myself or this contest that I provide for advertising and promotional activities. I also certify that I am at least 13 years of age and am eligible to participate in this contest.
I know we were discussing the "Little Ice Age", but this is ridiculous! -

Quote:I dunno. Zombie invasions are zone events.damnbuggerdamnbuggerdamnbugger
that screws up the incaranate system for me.
stupid idea to gate conent to enforced teaming
I've run solo on a zombie invasion in the Shadow Shard before.
As has been pointed out, fire fights are zone events, as are troll raves.
I don't think that teaming is going to be "forced". -

Quote:MMO means there's lots of people on simultaneously. It doesn't necessarily mean they're all on the same node/shard/server though. If you have a different understanding of what MMO stands for please share. I've accepted it as the standard definition. Personally it is why I left Infinity when I joined the game because for me it wasn't fitting the definition. What constitutes "many players" is debatable though.
And just because you disagree doesn't mean it's false either.Quote:Just because you list it doesn't make it true.
I notice you carefully avoid mentioning which are false, which are of technical merit, etc.Quote:The list cited on the first page 7 of the 10 points are subjective personal opinion and nothing more than fear mongering aka smoke. 3 of them have some technical merit that would have varying degrees of difficulty to overcome. Not one of them can't be overcome though and not a single rename or lost SG, or lost characters would need to occur.
As to them being overcome, sure. But is the cost/time/feature/benefit matrix more desirable? A lot of people (including the devs) are saying "no".
Is a server merge coming in a nebulous "eventual" sense? Sure. The game will consolidate some day. It'll likely be an indicator of the beginning of the end.Quote:I'm actually being really friendly and trying to help. If/when PS does deem in necessary or in the best interest of the game to condense the population that list you guys revere as some sort of anti-merger holy grail will crumble with nothing more than a hard gaze cast toward it.
Name me one MMO with as few shards as CoH has that underwent server closings/consolidation and wasn't going on life support.Quote:The biggest fear mongering of all is proclaiming that condensing the population will sound the death knoll for the game. Even though that puts you guys into the doom-criers allegiance (which is humorous) it is a very shortsighted and even ignorant view of the situation.
You assume technology has solved the specific problems which mandate the instancing of the population without introducing new issues.Quote:If PS made a release saying (hypothetical numbers used): our old server structure could only support 200 players in a single instance. So while our game world is vast and awe inspiring we were forced to spread players out over many instances. Rather than just creating numbered instances (which does currently occur during busy times) we opted to create separate named shards. We have since then upgraded our server tech to state of the art constructs that will allow us to support up to 3-4-5 hundred (pick w/e number you like) players in a single instance. To take advantage of our insanely fun, award winning and critically acclaimed zone events and to ensure that every player new and old gets to experience a bustling City Of. experience yada yada yada.
Also, you forget this is CLIENT-server technology. Simply because the servers can handle it, doesn't mean the clients can. Nor does it mean the network architecture (both hard and soft) linking the two can.
Everyone's entitled to their own (wrong) opinion. Even you.Quote:Well that sort of takes the wind out of the doom criers sails imo.
Until the devs state otherwise, asking for consolidation is merely another form of "are we there yet? are we there yet? are we there yet?" and just as annoying. -

Quote:Nice catch! It did usually...like on the first load in. At one point it let him play all day though.
Well he hasn't crashed since that last post. Neither have I. And he learned a valuable lesson: no matter how many diagnostic programs tell you it is fine, pop the ***** chips out to make sure. And then I hit him.
Just goes to show that even people who usually know what they're talking about occasionally yap from a nether oriface.

Question, did he run a long-term memtest? Or did he just run one of there programs that does a couple writes to check the memory out?
A stress test like memtest will usually let you know (sooner or later) if it's bad. -

Quote:You talk sense!Yeah, now we're getting into stuff that neither of us has any idea how to do, we'll probably destroy the card trying, and will cost money to do anyway. Which leads to.....
^^This. They're about $50 here too. Might as well get a new one, which will fix the problem, than throw money at breaking the old one worse.
I mistrust this!

One other thing. Strip out your graphics drivers BEFORE adding the new card. -

Quote:This explains it (NSFW!)On a tangentially related note: now that I have a reason to send emails, I'm getting freshly acquainted with just how utterly terrible the multi-line text box widget is. It's shamefully bad. I have no idea how people manage to write mission architect arcs using this thing.

Quote:MALESo if you're a level one with a high collar cape, your options should only be Basic, Arcane, and possibly Valkyrie - just like what is happening when my toon is female.
Basic
Occult
Arcane
Long Cape
CoV DVD Edition (Arachnos Cape)
DVD Edition
Valkyrie
FEMALE
Basic
Arcane
Valkyrie
Okay, your situation is messed up. But so are the choices here.
Think I'm going to petition the disparity between male and female on this. -
Quote:Sorry for double post, but could anyone please take a look at the pics and either confirm or debunk this as a bug? Or let me know if there is any more useful information I could provide.
You need to run the cape mission again. For some reason your actual cape status (not just cape mission status) was reset.
You can probably complain to customer service, but it's probably faster to just run the cape mission again. -
Quote:Two professional baseball teams (one of which has actually won the World Series in living memory AND IT AIN'T THE CUBS!)Yeah, what's so great about your city anyway? Name something cool about your city. Hell, name something lame about your city for all I care. I'll start:
The winged wheel, our Detroit Red Wings baby!
One professional football (American football, not soccer) team. Always good for a laugh at least.
One professional basketball team.
One professional hockey team (thank GOD that penny pinching ****** Wirtz is gone).
Some of the best and most varied food in the world. While I was traveling with the Army I was always appalled by how limited the selections of food were when I was dining out.
The best pizza on the planet. People talk about how great New York pizza is. I just laugh at their blissful ignorance.
Italian Beef (the real thing, not the roast beef in blah-sauce places outside Chicago try to pass off)
REAL Chicago-Style hotdogs
Brats
The Taste of Chicago
We're the birthplace of BattleTech.
If you're a Democrat, this is probably the friendliest place in the world for you. You can even crow about us providing the current President.
As I'm a conservative Republican, I'll just shut my mouth...
An aquarium, planetarium, multiple museums, etc.
The sheer, mind-bogglingly huge contributions in terms of manpower we've put into the entertainment industry.
The Belushi Bros.

Quote:It's still possible to flip the trays with the keyboard. I primarily use the keyboard since it's faster than mousing, and I still have problems occasionally bumping the tray back to 9 because I go to hit 0 and accidentally hit the - key (which rolls the tray).hmm.... Wouldn't it be better to use the keyboard to activate the powers instead of the mouse? In many fights, I don't need to use the mouse at all and I could play with my eyes closed (knowing how to touch type helps).
You can activate the powers in the first tray with the numeric keys across the top of the keyboard (not the numeric keypad). And trust me, it's not an insult to point out something like this that "everybody knows". I've encountered players who did NOT know they could use the keyboard for their powers and it dramatically increased their efficiency and enjoyment of the game.
And I tried je saist's suggestion. Won't work for me BECAUSE I'm keyboarding. The keypresses STILL affect the main tray. What's worse, it's possible to flip a tray and since it's hidden, not know. -

THE FOLLOWING IS ONLY A SAMPLE, AND IS NOT INTENDED FOR REAL USE!
Hello friend. Want to earn billions of Inf? It's easy using the new Gleemail system. Here's how it works. Send 1 Million Inf via Gleemail to the top global name below. Then remove the top name, add your name to the bottom, and forward this on to all of your global friends. They need to be friends that will accept your email, or this won't work! Then sit back and relax. If you have good friends, they'll pass the email on. Soon, you'll be getting Gleemails for a million Inf. Since the system limits you to 20 Gleemails with attachments, you'll want to log in often to collect all of your Inf! You'll earn enough to give up your Day Job. But you have to follow the instructions above exactly!

Excuse me people. I need to take TopDoc out back and *cracks knuckles* 'splain somethin' to him. For his own good.

Quote:I've done so too. Of course, I did that several times in the old interface too.I did that a couple times last night. Took me a while to figure out why my items weren't selling.
As much as it galls me, the admonishment to slow down does have SOME merit.
But you you tell anyone I said this, I'll deny it!
