No. I did no such thing. I merely stated, a counterpoint, that people are going to burn through content however quickly it is given and quit with the "not enough" argument anyhow.Quote:you refuse to acknowledge that the other side might have some sort of point by going on and on about WELL U WILL JUST BURN THROUGH CONTENT AND WHINE SO--
Yes, there is a content disparity between red and blue side.
Do I think that the devs should simply ignore blue (or grey) for a while and focus solely on red side content?
No.
You obviously missed the post I replied to initially.Quote:ect even though no one but you is talking about it.
Again, I'm not saying produce no content for red. Ever. I'm simply saying the devs aren't ever going to be able to produce it fast enough. Maybe, if their budget doubled or something, they could afford devote a team to doing nothing but turning out content. In which case, give red side some extra consideration for a while to even it up.Quote:So, what do you say about the people who stop playing BECAUSE there's not as much content for City of Villains?
What I'm saying is that the devs can't afford to be locked into some fallacious line of thinking that they can retain everyone by simply churning out more content. Or adding new systems. Or *INSERT HERE*.
Should they listen to these people? Sure. Should they throw everything else over just to implement what these people want? No.
So keep trying. You keep labeling a "strawman". Sorry, but simply attaching an epithet doesn't mean you're correct. -

Quote:Not quite sure what the problem is here.Speak for yourself. The only troll I see here is you.
You quoted yourself in your own sig for cryin' out loud >.<
I responded to conjecture from another poster. Then I got yelled at because someone didn't like how I formatted the response. Not because the response was necessarily wrong.
As to quoting myself in my own sig. Yeah? So? Saves me from having to type it again and again.
Now I invite you to actually argue the points I made instead of simply being dismissive with nothing supporting you. -
Quote:Actually there are a couple cards from EliteGroup that are at-spec for GTS 250 and are actually cheaper up front (no rebate wait). The problem is, I've got exactly ZERO experience with ECS' video cards.Video Card. I have a huge problem with manufactures who market a card as a GTS 250 when they clock the GPU 9% slower and the memory 20% slower than the GTS 250 standard (GPU 675MHz Vs 738MHz, Memory 1800MHz Vs 2200MHz), which happens to be the same GPU speed as the 9800GTX and the same memory speed as the 9800GT. I consider the practice fairly dishonest. That said it's still the fastest nVidia card at that price at NewEgg. Probably twice as fast as the GT 240 I was suggesting in my previous post but only $30 more.
There's also an XFX 5750 in that price range as well. Granted it's $10 more and he's already over-budget...
PNY also has a genuine 9800 GTX+ in there for $130 (after a $5 instant rebate) and $100 after a $30 MIR.
EVGA also has a 9800 GTX+ for the same exact price as that 250.
Also, maybe look at a different memory vendor (to avoid mail-in-rebates)? Several 4GB (2x2) kits are around $102-$104.
I've had very good luck with G.Skill (YMMV).
Your picks all look fine for the most part. I'm noticing you're going after a few things that are "Cheapest with mail in rebate". If you're really on a hard budget here, DO NOT PRICE THINGS LIKE THIS. Look at the up-front cost. Right now, tack on $40-50 to your up front costs and that's how much this system is running you until all your rebate checks get back. -
Quote:You're objecting to a formatting choice? Please troll elsewhere.you're bad at this. keep tearing at that straw man.
PS: typing FACT in all caps really doesn't add any credibility to you. at all. stop doing it.
Asking "Well what if people quit for *INSERT REASON*?" is mostly pointless.
As I pointed out, the devs could devote several issues to nothing but content. People are still going to tear through it in short order then resume their bellyaching about wanting "more content".
Sure, maybe if you've been here 6+ years, it's all old to you. What you're missing is the fact that it took exactly how long to burn your way through it all?
And, again, there's the population disparity between the sides. I'm glad the devs are taking the effort to fix and/or release content more or less equally for both sides. If they went simply off a population comparison, redside would see new/reworked stuff every second or third issue.
Now, having tried and failed to get a rise out of me, how about you actually try to refute the things I've said instead of simply being lazy and dismissing them?
I await with baited breath...

Quote:Everyone is going to stop sooner or later. FACT.So, what do you say about the people who stop playing BECAUSE there's not as much content for City of Villains?
Everyone who stops is going to rationalize their doing so in some fashion (legitimate or otherwise). FACT.
If it is due to the fact that they've burned through all the content redside multiple times, don't want to go blue for a while, don't want to go grey for a while, and don't wish to step into AE, that is their choice (technically, it's three choices). FACT.
The current crop of devs are trying to keep releases of new content releases balanced so that both (soon "all") sides get something. OPINION, but fairly well supported by historical data.
No matter what, the devs CANNOT release new content at the speed that players can devour it. FACT. Simply inputting the data takes longer than it does to play some of these arcs. Never mind the programming that needs to happen to insert a contact or append an existing contact to offer the content. Never mind testing.
I'm not saying the devs couldn't possibly TRY to do more to put out new content than they already are. I'm just saying that they are NOT going to keep up with players ability to consume it. Then the same tired old "I've done everything! I'm bored! FEED ME!" argument pops up again. -
Note: Please note that you are not necessarily required to resist the urge to cackle insanely for the first few missions while bad guys go up in smoke faster than you can track them.
-
Quote:Correct. Newer content, blue-side is generally on-par with the redside content though.Redside has much less content than blueside yet it is generally better designed.
Silver Mantis was an SF that did NOT have a universally addressable contact. The ease with which one could find a mission comp is irrelevant.Quote:However, villains didn't get a new SF, they merely got Silver Mantis moved out to the zones and it wasn't that hard to find someone with a Mission Computer before this.
Okay, the PTF was one of the longest taskforces in the game. Made so because, at the time, the devs didn't have the technology to split it up and make both available from the same contact. People have been yelling about the poor design of the TF almost since inception.Quote:My worry is that blueside will start getting improvements while the already unpopular redside will continue to lag behind in content.
Simply because they chose to address it NOW has no bearing on the choice of blue vs red.
Devs hate villains!Quote:Now, I'm not ignoring the new clone arcs. They were well done and I think the one for villains was better than the one for heroes. However, it still leaves villains with a lesser amount of content in the end.
Seriously, the villains are ALWAYS going to have less overall content. Fewer zones, more compact content, and FEWER PLAYERS.
This is not to say that villains are second class citizens. But the devs are trying to balance release of new/reworked stuff between both sides. Expecting some massive addition to CoV at this point, while ignoring CoH is...ridiculous.
IMNSHO, your line of thinking is not justified.Quote:I guess my question would be, is my thinking unjustified?
YUP!Quote:Am I letting it bug me when it really shouldn't?
Simply because you and others feel this may be the case doesn't mean it IS.Quote:Or do others feel like this? -

Re: How do you know if your vid card is going bad?
If the system is bombing and rebooting, that COULD be a few things.
- Bad vidcard
- ***** driver install
- Bad memory or memory controller.
- Thermal issue with the card or CPU
- If you're using PCI-E power connectors, it's possible that your PSU is taking a dump on you. So when the vidcard starts drawing power on those rails it's destabilizing the system because the power feeds are fluctuating.
#4 is possibly easy to fix. When was the last time you cleaned our your system's case and the card itself? Also, make sure the card is seated properly/fully in the slot.
#3 is a sucky thing, but still able to be worked around. How many DIMM slots are populated on your board right now? If you have 4 individual DIMMs, you can try pulling the second pair and see if you still have the problem.
#2 is a pain in the butt. Try a driver cleaner. As a VERY LAST RESORT, you could reinstall the system clean (OS and all).
#1 If the card IS going belly-up, you're looking at needing a new card. Sucktastic? Sure. The end of the world? Nuh-uh! -
The reason villains are the way they are.
They're ticked off because they're not utterly invulnerable, the way citizens in bank job missions are. Getting blasted HURTS! -
*I tanked the entire Freedom Phalanx for 37-1/2 hours straight. And all I got was this lousy T-Shirt!*

Quote:mitos the size of beach balls!while i don't have a picture, i game on a 32" so shrinking the screen in half isn't bad at all. Or if i'm in the mood i'll move out and plug into my 60" in the living room (usually for hami raids or other big events) and let me say this: Coh on 60 inches is completely awesome!
-
Quote:Nope. You can start either.I have no problem re-doing it with the Fire/Rads. The lobby scene is just a farce compared to how faceplanty it was on all tank teams. And really, the dopplegangers just melt. It's sad. Muah ha ha ha ha.
I assume the leader must have done posi 1 to get posi 2? -
Quote:I mostly use the second screen during taskforces. I keep a copy of Paragonwiki open so I can track where we are in the TF.Haha, pretty much. I already often surf the net while playing (for pron of course). Alt tabbing makes me sad.
That and so I can play when I'm "working" from home (my company uses IM for internal communication). -
Quote:Yeah, it's a 1U. And it is nominally quiet. I've run across some screamers for 1U and this isn't one.if I wasnt using a cheap IKEA table for a desk and I had 4shes desk. I am sure I would have more (I have a 2nd desk setup for my daughter to use).
@Hyper is that a 1U server in the rack, I had a full enclosed rack a few years back (it didnt move with me). I want quite machines so 1/2U would be out.
Also, this is why I play with headsets. Playing with speakers, the game can be kinda loud and I try not to bug my neighbors. -

Not doing anything terribly elaborate.
Have my main system on the hanging shelf in the open rack. Above it is my net server. Above that are my 24-port switch, and my router. Up top of the rack is my AP.
The netserver and my DNS machine are sharing a KVM.
And since I'm a computer geek, I have a few corpses hanging around my apartment too.
BUT I'LL PUT THEM TO USE! SOME DAY!
*Innocent Whistle* -
If anyone wants to name another night and time, I'm game for it. I still have to get the new Posi on Trolla as well.
-
Let me try to put this in as delicate and diplomatic manner as I can and as warranted by the suggestion.
-
Quote:Try to think about it this way though. No, I don't like using sub-standandard IO's so that I get the bonus when I exemp... tbh i want the most out of each toon, it's what I like to do.
If you're essentially locking yourself out of content, you're not really getting "the most" out of your toons are you? It's essentially "race to the top, IO out, get bored, rinse, repeat" -
I understand. I helped start a villains Fire/Rad team over on Protector. Unfortunately, due to the way they decided to schedule, I'm unable to attend.

Okay, we did not one, but TWO taskforces this week.
We had a full 8-man team and we just whupped a..butt!
Posi 1:

We finished in 44 minutes and change. Yeah, slow. We'll try to get it done faster next time.
And the shadow us'es (STATION!)? They were WIMPS! Their butts were kicked eight ways to Sunday. VERY underwhelming.

Posi 2:

Here we were Taskforce Tunguska (see BIG BOOM).
And yes, Doc Vahz DEFINITELY felt the boom.
We ran about 3 minutes over the 1 hour time limit I'd set on both TFs.
I attribute this mostly to some VERY long load times in a couple of instances and only one DC through the entire run.
You can find all the pics HERE.
I'd like to thank:
- Greased Wheels
- Zero Decay
- Fork in Microwave
- Kitty Combusion
- Therm O'Dynamic
- Main-Sequence and
- Hadesmord
And, as promised, I've built a separate Fire/Rad for higher level taskforces.
Introducing Vortex Core.

On the flip side, much fun was had by all and many, many bad guys were melted down into scrap. Alone, I pulled 2-3/4 levels and nine badges. -

Quote:Birthdays...
where would we be without them?
No, really. Where would we be?
Still in mom's womb.
And considering the fact that she's 4'11" and I'm 5'10", it'd piss her off the likes of which you've NEVER seen.
Trust me, you'd rather deal with an irrate Chuck Norris than my mom when she's pissed. -
*AHEM*
Can I have an A please?
No! No! That's a rather warped and warbly E minor.
Ah heck. I'll go with it.
HAPPY BERFDAY TO YOU!

LOOK OUT FOR THAT RIKTI!

Quote:yea i know... but i really don't enjoy building up a character to lvl 50 with lvl 50 set bonuses and everything else just to play at a gimped level.
I would love the option to run Posi, Citadel, Numi TF's etc etc at lvl 50... any other level I avoid like the plague, don't see the point in working so hard to get to 50 only to go backwards.
baffles me tbh.
Because, even with your set bonuses non-applicable, you're tougher exemped than you were at the actual level.
And if you opt not to buy L50 IOs (say L30-35 IOs), you still get 95% of the enhancement and you keep your set bonuses longer.
