Want to apologize for not showing tonight guys.
Complete and utter brain fart and thought you were starting at 9PM ET, like my event.

Will be there on Thursday though. -
-
Nice system. I wouldn't want it though.
I'm not big on the "everything must glow" aesthetic for my computer. -
Quote:Probably could have worded this better. There is no client-to-client communications in CoX, it all goes through the servers.
What I'm talking about is the tracking of teammates your client does when on teams. Yes, it's passed through the server, but it's still messaging from one client to the other. -
Quote:Betting this has something to do with the client-to-client communications. So I joined a team that was advertising in Sharkhead, and my connection immediately when to heck, and less nice places. Yellow lag spikes everywhere, and rubberbanding too.
I've had this on occasion. Fine solo. But when teamed with certain people:
- Zone/map load times skyrocket
- Combat because lagfest
- Lots of rubberbanding.
If so, try closing it. Sometimes this helps, sometimes not.
This could be a "your lousy net connection" issue.
This could be a problem with one of your teammates' net connections.
It could be a problem with (server) message passing.
Or any of a number of things. Few of which you'll be able to directly address/control/fix. -
When playing squishy, I tend to target through unless the tank is flipping through enemies or can't decide.
Then it's back to good old Target_Enemy_Near -
Quote:Healing is not damage mitigation.I have one quibble with that, good sir. Healing is NEVER a form of mitigation. It does not, and cannot, prevent or reduce incoming damage. It is, instead, a form of reactive assistance. It can only be effective AFTER damage has been dealt.
Healing is death mitigation. -
Yep. Two teams again.
And yeah, Lusca handed us our *AHEM*.
Mostly because the first tentacle aggroed was one in a big cluster (whoops). At this point we lost one of our 6 members and I crashed out.
Anyhoo, we had more than one team again this evening. So we split high and low. As usual, I grabbed the lowbies and actually brought along a ringer in the guise of a Fire/Kin. It made for a slightly different dynamic.
Oh yeah. And I need to stop acting like a tank. If I could survive the aggro, cool. But in some cases my health bar heads right at hypersonic speeds.
It's something like "ATTAC*DEAD!* JEEZE!"
Anyhoo, we took group two on a Posi1 at +0x8. We had a few deaths, but nothing severe (other than a VERY near TPK because someone (not me this time!) forgot about the ambush in one mission).
On the last mish, we didn't do half bad. The first mob was positioned further back in City Hall and it made it easier to get in and get set up to fight. We wiped both mobs upstairs with nary a problem. We then went downstairs and proceeded to melt 8 shadow clones in under a minute.

Quote:What I'd suggest, if you're doing that, is to frankenslot with cheap set IOs where available. Much more economical and better returns in the long run.Another note. Would this build have problems if I kept all the IOs at either level 25 or 30 until I reached close to 50?
Maybe SOs at 25 and start Frankenslotting at 28-30. -
Just off the top of me head.
- Hotfeet is taken WAY too late. Take it as soon as it comes up. This is your primary damage mechanism. Especially at lower levels pre-stamina.
- Hasten is taken too early. Move it post-Stamina to reduce incidents of messy end crashes.
- You're better off with either Leaping or Flight for a travel pool. Yes, Recall Friend is useful in teaming. The rest are highly optional and the slots could be better spent elsewhere.
- Flashfire is way way late as well. Here's a link to a basic build list of powers and the levels to take them. Granted, it's for a Fire/Rad superteam, but the build works solo very nicely too.
- I'd also look at grabbing and slotting Cinders too. A very effective PBAoE. This way if you're *AHEM* deep in a mob and your controls slip a little *POOF*, Cinders has them held again.
- Both Choking Cloud and Hotfeet are underslotted. 5-slot minimum. 6-slot if you have space.

Quote:Okay, healing is just another ability in this game.I have just started playing, and my character just hit level 16. I am playing a controller with Plant as primary, and Empathy as my secondary power.
Here is the question. Am I a healer?
It's not an AT. It's not a playstyle.
It's a way of mitigating incoming damage.
Look at it this way.
- Controls can reduce damage by freezing opponents at range, making them switch to potentially less damaging attacks, fearing them (causing them to run away instead of attack), knocking them back (stopping them from attacking for a short period) or completely negate damage by holding, confusing, or stunning the opponent, leaving them unable to attack.
- Debuffs can reduce an enemy's ability to hit and modify (downward) the amount of damage they deliver if they DO hit.
- Buffs can raise your defenses and resistances making you harder to hit (a miss = 100% damage mitigation and damage resistance = partial damage mitigation). Moreover, buffs can increase your ability to recover from damage (regeneration).
- Heals only clean up damage after it's actually done.
A well buffed team that makes an effort to control and debuff their enemies will usually have little need for heals.
The job of a controller is, primarily, to control the enemy's movement. Their secondary powers are usually buffs or debuffs to help maximize the effects of their primary.Quote:Healing is what I wanted to do, but I am learning that Defenders do that, so what exactly is my character? Am I primarily a support class? A weak healer used when the real healers are not available?
The job of a defender is to buff allies, debuff enemies, and they have a weak blast set as their secondary.
In no way is the primary function of either class "healing". It's just one weapon in an arsenal of them.
Of COURSE you're going to be useful. You'll be locking up opponents and doing small, steady amounts of damage to them while buffing your teammates (who'll be doing larger amounts of damage to actually take them out).Quote:I figured I should get this figured out before I work this character up to level 50. If I am going to be useful, then I will definitely stick with this character, but I do not what to be looked at as a weak healer.
In short, if you're looking for a "pure healer" just stop now. Such one-dimensonal characters are of only modest utility at lower levels. At higher levels, they're actually an impediment to their teammates. -
I was actually hoping for a respec trial tonight if people are up to it.
The poor schlubs won't know what hit them. -
Open mouth. Insert foot. Grr!
Apparently I won't be there. I brain-farted and didn't remember that I'd agreed to help someone start up an event on another server tomorrow.
Oh well, I'll be the "tank" for that group. -
Also note that the Pocket D teleporter doesn't actually become active until, IIRC, Level 3.
And I think you made a good choice. The Architect Edition has some nice swag in it, but the Pocket D VIP Pass has given me FAR more utility and mobility (especially at low levels). -

No.
Too lazy most of the time. And I normally don't have problems with people trying to spam team invites or goldspam. -
Quote:Perhaps my meaning would be clearing of you added "ing" to the "S".hmmm as I look back and read the posts, I don't see me telling you to stfu once.
The OP had been answered more than sufficiently, then you went and stuck your oar in. And were partially wrong to boot. -
And who are you that I should give a damn? Let alone an answer?
Oh yeah. Another internet toughguy.
*YAWN*
Granted, I noticed a lot of STFU from you when I was telling the OP that droning was NOT an exploit, bug, or other form of error.
If you want to stroke your e-peen, go ahead. I'd just suggest you don't do it publicly. Apparently garnering public humiliation isn't your thing. -
Quote:Not going to dig back through the whole thread, but this would probably be the place to start.Does anyone remember where this is stated ? If so it can be the copypasta that ends this thread.

While, yes, his use of "wright" was "rong", his use of "defence" is technically NOT incorrect.
If you're going to grammar nazi, make sure you cover your bases before taking a swipe at the guy.
As to the rest. If it's a question of being droned or having some butthead base-camping, I'll take being droned.
Hell, if you're willing to "spend" enough people, you can still get in and base camp anyhow. -
Quote:Sure. There's an INFALLIBLE defense against droning. So there is no defence vs a drone and we all know that. But you want to say this is wright whan you dont need to drone to defeat your opponent.
Don't get within teleport range of an opposing side's drones.
I will try to keep this as close to monosyllabic as possible to aid your understanding.
IF YOU ARE FACING A DRONE YOU SCREWED UP!
Plain and simple. It means you weren't paying enough attention to your enemy and surroundings so you let them do this to you!
I think you overestimate the level reaction you're evoking.Quote:Ok send in the mob im not afraid of any of you insult me all you want. But what is the big fear of haveing droning stopped?
The way you're being answered by me is to help YOU formulate YOUR thoughts appropriately. If I failed at that, I guess I'll just have to live with the guilt.

Change just for change's sake is not good.Quote:In any MMO it has to change to grow and this change is good for all.
Change of what, in the devs' opinion is Working As Intended just because YOU don't happen to LIKE the mechanic is not "good" by any stretch of the imagination.
And you have a right to your wrong opinions as well.Quote:Yes we do hold a difference of opinion on this. I dont hold it agenst you you have that right.
I don't hold it against you. I'm just telling you right now that you're beating your head on a monolith here. Granted, other monoliths here have been headbutted into submission (market mergers, CoP, etc), I can state with an inordinately high confidence level that the only outcome you're going to get here is a headache and a lot of annoyed posters.Quote:I hope you dont hold my opinion agenst me. I believe this to be wrong so going to drive on until I hear from a dev on this.
