Quote:No. You've merely surpassed "old", "really old" and "watched the birth of the universe" and are at the point of "So immortality IS possible".I have a SG mate that served tours of duty in Vietnam. And I have you beat nearly by a decade. OP - you're not even close to being old.

Quote:We should have at least 1-2 50's in our group. Can I get a fourth team leader to volunteer again? You don't have to do much other than invite people to your team. Turg will be our Pylon/Raid Caller, so really I just need someone who is bringing a 50, who can invite people to their team. Any takers?
Can you say MONSTER RECHARGE?Quote:REMINDER: This is TONIGHT! It looks like we'll probably be sporting about 4 teams ourselves, and we might be joined by the Frad group with probably 1-2 teams. It should be a great night!

Farming them in either the very early 30's (30-35) or in the at 50 is where you'll see the highest returns. Unfortunately, the intermediate levels of most recipies won't draw as much consideration.

Quote:It's not so much that I am 31 that makes me feel so old, it's my 13 year old that does. I do believe you're as old or young as you feel, but that also applies to how old your kid makes you feel :P.

Of course you're not. You've got to "prove" you're "right". Right?
Operational costs for a business are more than simple server hosting costs.Quote:A quick internet search on MMO costs pulls up information that inndicates hosting an MMO is less than $1 per month per user.
Others have already outlined a lot of costs that take bites out of your $15/month.
Welcome to the wonderful world of micropayments.Quote:I paid $30 for Going Rogue, so all the new Going Rogue content doesn't count as new content paid for by subscription fees. I also paid for the Martial Arts pack, etc. everything except the Mutant Pack.
You wanted a lot of "Ooh shiny!". Hence you bought the "Ooh shiny!".
Additionally, you got Issue 18 with Going Rogue. Please familiarize yourself with what constitutes Issue 18. That includes new content.
Again, your subscription fee guarantees you nothing more than simple access to the game. The fact that you're not paying for every addition to the game since Issue 0 is a minor miracle.Quote:When you look at "free" new content from the subscription fees, there is not that much.
Gross revenue is not the same thing as "profit" or "net revenue". You have to subtract all those stupid little costs of doing business.Quote:At 100,000 players paying $15 per month that's $1.5 million per month revenue.
As mentioned above. BIG difference between "gross" and "net". They can't simply say "we're devoting 1/3 of gross revenue to *this*".Quote:If they even spent a third of that on new development it would pay for a team of ten full time programmers and artists each making $50,000 a year.
Exactly how much MMO programming have you done? This argument usually comes up from people with little to none.Quote:You're telling me that ten professional game staff, working full time for a year, could only come up with four new powersets, a few new costumes, and a couple dozen new missions? Don't count the Going Rogue stuff I told you I already paid separate for that.
Additionally, you have been playing for what? Nearly 6 years? A player can CONSUME content at a far more ferocious rate than developers can put it out.Quote:CoH is a great game, but you can't just play the same stuff over and over forever.
Define "all the time". This game has been, more or less regularly, putting out an issue every 3-5 months since inception. That's new content and about as close to "all the time" as a dev staff is going to get.Quote:There has to be new stuff coming out all the time.
I'm not. I've been playing for roughly two years. And I haven't by any stretch of the imagination, consumed the entirety of the game's content. I've done most of the events/raids/Trials/TFs at least once. But that's not the whole game.Quote:You guys are too easily satisfied, I think.
Moreover, I play the game for other reasons than to blindly plow through content in some sick completionist drive for "been there, done that, sent postcards". Does this lead me into repetition in play? Sure! But, at times, THIS IS WHAT I AM AIMING FOR!
Honestly, you've been playing for what? Six years? You're probably badly burnt out on the game and probably require an extensive absence from the game before you can come back and look at it objectively.
What is NOT going to happen is for them to simply double the content of the existing game every issue (which is likely what you're looking for). Try asking that of any development crew and prepare for raucous laughter. -
This also allows them to release two sets "full season" DVDs. Kinda like the crap BSG was pulling.

Quote:You're not running Ultra Mode with all the bells and whistles at high resolution. Thanks for the replies so far. I guess I should point out that improved performance in CoH is of fairly minor concern to me; even with my current specs, and the in-game settings set fairly high, I have no complaints about performance.
A newer machine would give you this option.
Some people will recommend a GTX 460. Some people may recommend a Radeon 5850. If you're going to spend $1500 on UPGRADES, you're sorta in the "money is no option" category. You could go full-on GTX 480 or Radeon 5970.Quote:The only upgrade I was making with an eye towards CoH is the graphics card, since my 9800GT is on the low end. Any recommendations on a card and power supply?
You're probably looking at a PSU in the 500-700W range. Coolermaster, Antec, Thermaltake, Seasonic, and Silverstone all make decent power supplies that I've used.
Uhm. No. You run the risk for storage failure with any device you buy. Anyone telling you different is spewing from a nether orifice.Quote:My desire to switch to SDD has little to do with increased performance and more to do with them being, to my understanding, more reliable than traditional hard drives -- I've had terrible experience recently with data loss due to hard drive failure.
Unfortunately everyone has a different opinion on what brands are reliable. Some people swear by Maxtor. Personally, every Maxtor drive I've owned has failed miserably. However, I've had excellent luck with Western Digital.
You could probably push the system a little further. HOWEVER, get yourself thinking "bang for the buck" for a moment. No matter how much you spend on simple upgrades, you're still better off replacing the machine.Quote:I suppose I could just save up and buy a new system, but I find it easier to replace things piece by piece. So I'm wondering how far I can push this current system (even if it means eventually replacing the CPU.)
Also, remember this is a Gateway machine. You may or may not be able to put a newer CPU into the machine. -
Bungee, not sure where you're at but take a look at the MicroCenter website.
60-day cards for $20. If you want to give them a CC#, you can mass order them online and have them shipped. Otherwise, look for a store local to you and see if they have any in stock. -
- If you can double the memory, that might not hurt.
- This might or might not give you a real speed boost. Loading maps and stuff would be fast, but actual in-game performance won't see a horrendous boost.
- Windows 7 may negate some of the speed gains from other aspects of the system upgrade.
- As to upgrading your graphics card, you'd need to upgrade your power supply first. Quite simply it won't really accept a higher performance (and power eating) card than you already have.

Quote:http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Consignm...se_TransporterWell I bought one of these things and Im posting here for others who might see this and decide to purchase. No where in the description does it mention this but I found out (after a series of emails exchanged between me and support) that these things only work for Praetorians.
Be warned.
The sad part is I cannot figure out how to remove it from my powers list and i cant use it. Im gonna try to resell it but I wish I could add a disclaimer to the auction so others are as easily duped as I.
You should be able to right-click and select "remove from tray".
Or are you saying you're looking in your powers list and can't figure out how to use it?
If so, click-and-hold on it and drag it to an open spot on your powers tray. You can then use it. -
Quote:AV: You will all *COUGH*COUGH*COUGH*Some of that is my personal bias. I have never liked choking cloud, but in a FRAD superteam it becomes pretty darn good. But then again, so does everything else.
*FWOOSH!*
AV: *GACK!*
Fire/Rad Team Leader: Okay we took down the last minion. Now where's the AV? -
Quote:Honestly, I wouldn't call Choking Cloud skippable. Big PBAoE hold as a toggle? The real must have powers are Accelerate metabolism, maneuvers, tactics, and assault from the leadership pool, hotfeet, imps, and your favorite AoE mez to set up containment. After that, you can really pick anything else and it's hard to go wrong.
Smoke and bonfire are the most skippable in fire control. Choking cloud, fallout, and Emp pulse are the most skippable in radiation emission. -
Okay, will try this again.

Wanna take the Fire/Rads in on it?

Quote:Okay, then you've just told me something is wrong.Critters run away for one of two reasons: A power or script forces them to or their "grief" flag has been set to true.
The Grief flag gets set to true when the enemy's morale breaks. Morale can break because a team mate died too quickly, or because they cannot attack their enemy effectively. So, if a group of softcapped players AoE nuke half a spawn down, the rest are pretty likely to run away -- a bunch of their team just died AND their odds of being able to retaliate are at minimal levels.
I'm not saying there isn't a problem; I am giving you, the players, more information regarding how it works internally. You should also know that runners are a part of the game and eliminating that aspect of the game isn't really likely to happen.
Atlas Park.
Level 3
Hunting Hellions
I come up on a pair of +2 Hellion minions in the group just outside the wall of that courtyard due west of the AE building.
I hit one of them and both take off like a bat outta hell. One running directly into the AE drones. One hopping the wall and running into the courtyard just north of the wall (running through several other groups of enemies on the way).
They don't attack me, and I've shot someone exactly once.
And at level 3 there's no way in hell I'm softcapped.
No teammate has died.
Note: This doesn't ALWAYS happen. However, I can usually manage to get them to run away with only one attack. -
Quote:IIRC, for South American players, there's an option built into the game to allow you to directly purchase GR.I think they shouldnt ban any IP Brazil or from any other country, it's a offense for anyone who wants to buy something and cannot.

Note: This comes from the SR4A book.
Spending Edge
When you spend a point of Edge, you can choose to have one of the following happen:
- You may declare the use of Edge before rolling for any one test (or one interval roll on an Extended Test). You may add a number of extra dice equal to your full Edge attribute to the dice pool. All dice (not just Edge dice) rolled on this test are subject to the Rule of Six (p. 62), meaning that if you roll a 6, you count it as a hit and roll it again.
- You may declare the use of Edge after you have rolled for one test. In this case, you may roll a number of extra dice equal to your full Edge attribute and add their hits to the test’s total. The Rule of Six (p. 62), however, applies only to the additional Edge dice rolled, not the original dice pool.
- You may re-roll all of the dice on a single test that did not score a hit.
- You may make a Long Shot Test (p. 61) even if your dice pool was reduced to 0 or less; roll only your Edge dice for this test (the Rule of Six does not apply).
- You may go first in an Initiative Pass, regardless of your Initiative Score (see Initiative and Edge, p. 145). If multiple characters spend Edge to go first in the same pass, those characters go in order according to their Initiative Scores first, then everyone else goes according to their Initiative Scores.
- You may gain 1 extra Initiative Pass for that Combat Turn only (see Initiativeand Edge, p. 145).
- You may negate the effects of one glitch or critical glitch.

Quote:A technical explanation can be found here.[edit2: I just noticed the GTX465 is about the same price as the 1GB GTX460... it's older but appears to benchmark better? Can someone clarify, as I'm obviously way out of the vid card loop.]
In short, the 460 is using a newer core architecture. It requires significantly less power, so it has fewer heat issuers, therefore the cooling solution paired with the card is correspondingly quieter. -

Quote:Hi All,
Anyone interested in starting a fire/rad superteam meet up? I've seen there's one on Freedom, but unfortunately i made it here before i saw that.
I have one around lvl 30 right now, and would love to see how things just melt with a whole team...let me know guys!
@FatherCronos
Hey Spech_K, nothing's stopping you from making another one over on Freedom (except maybe the occasional queue).
Additionally, Liberty has a group that runs Tuesday/Thursday as well.
I know you've already started one. What'll it hurt trying another from scratch? If nothing else, the rapid leveling common to this sort of team will give you ideas for do's and don'ts for your primary build on your home server.
I currently have three Fire/Rads.
Flamin' Trolla (Level-locked for marketing purposes)
Vortex Core (For high-level TFs)
Al A. Magordo (Over on Liberty to help get them started)
