Quote:Indeed, part of why I gave up on Marvel was the fact that they not only built, but use a dues ex machina character and use her to explain any changes to the way the world works on their whim
Granted, I enjoyed the Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, but at least there you halfway know what you're getting into
I mean, don't get me wrong. Occasional retcons can be done. Great, fine and wonderful. But Marvel just has a penchant for pulling out the Big Red RESET button way, WAY, WAY too often.
I mean seriously, Spider-Man is what? Three? FOUR levels of total, universal retcon deep at the moment?
The only two things more overused than retcon in the universe are Deadpool and Wolverine. -

-
Oh, it probably hasn't escaped them.
They're just holding it in reserve for the next time they need a piece of massive retcon-fodder. -
Quote:No. Defense > Resistance.Um....Hello? Fire! Not Rock. Rocks no go with Fire. Get the fire shield.
Resistance, they almost always hit you, but you take less damage. Defense, they miss you and you take no damage.
The reason some of us are going Stone is because someone has take point and grab the alpha-stike. Rock Armor helps survivability in those situations. I just wish it could be altered like the primary/secondary version so it didn't look like I was covered in poo.
Unfortunately no. If you could Venge and Fallout off them, we'd be EVIL (well, MORE evil).Quote:And, only because I don't know - can you use Vengeance with a fallen imp? -
Sorry about the lateness of the post for Monday's event guys. Busy busy busy!

We had another great turnout this week! We started off by trouncing those despicable ner-do-wells Eochai and Jack in Irons. Unfortunately, due to the amount of time they'd been fighting, only some people got badges. We'll try again for a Monster Mash sometime in the future. Make sure EVERYONE gets them.
We then proceeded on to go open a can on Hro'Dtoz in the RWZ. I'd been trying to spank him earlier in the day solo and couldn't get him down below 25% before he'd spank me.
So I upped the diff and brought friends.
Bye bye big Rikti guy!
We then proceeded on to Unai Kemen. We opted to take the Pantheon Masks mish twice as we're not just working towards max merits, we're also working on accolades.
While it was a shorter night, we called it early.
I'd like to thank everyone who showed, and I'll see you guys on Friday! -
Quote:Sup guys, Old school fire/rad here just reactived my account today. I haven't played in afew yrs, sorry stuck on WOW but I'm looking for some ppls to chill with. my fire/rad is lvl 50 and her name is Infernoqueen she's decent speced. pst in game i should be on nightly. thanks and cya guys in-game.
Heya Infernoqueen. Welcome back!
We're on Mondays 9PM Eastern to whenever.
We're also on Fridays, 7PM Eastern to whenever.

Quote:Hey Net. @Hyperstrike1.Well I tried to give alot of stuff. The Posi team didnt give me thier globals =P
Oh well. We got Posi, Citadel, Manti, and Numina covered. 4 out of 6, 2 out of 3.
Even Meat Loaf agrees that it aint bad.
=)
Anyhoo, the Posi team came through in 1:16 on Posi1. We had a pair of splashdowns. One at the ambushes outside City Hall (waves 2 and 3 popped almost simultaneously), and once inside City Hall (huge mob of death mages just ate us).

My favorite quote of the night came right after the Zombie ambush in the Doc Buzzsaw mission.
<Amazing Brute Jr.> Jeez Offended Young Girl, did you pop a couple purples or are you just that tough?
<Offended Young Girl> A little bit of both! -
There's Hyperstrike (SS/Inv tank), my main. He was an ordinary officer visiting a relative at Terra Volta when (yet another) superbrawl broke out in the reactor room. Instead of running the hell away, he got invovled, beaten, irradiated, and was nearly at death's door when one of the heroes strapped an early, non-implant version of the mediporters to him. Unfortunately those needed to be calibrated quite accurately to the wearer's physiology and he got ripped up even worse in the process. After several years of VERY painful rehab, he's out on the street, busting crime again.
Or The Mighty Pi (MA/WP scrapper). He's a former student who basically screwed off for an entire year and then tried a super-intensive cramming session for a week before finals. It drove him over the edge and he went loony. Now he runs around avenging a mathematical concept.
Or Inion Imolain Gealai (Warshade). She's the offspring of the Nictus master from the ITF. Due to all the time-travel shenanigans, she was accused of killing her own father after he possessed Romulus. Subsequently she was imprisoned and tortured for several centuries before escaping, gradually becoming convinced her people were wrong for their attempt to enslave humanity. Finally, after gaining access to the Midnighter's Club, she wound up looping back around and was part of a team of heroes that eliminated Nictus Romulus and set her life in motion.
Americium Bombshell (Kin/Rad defender). A byproduct of a US Super Soldier program in her universe.
Tectonica (Stone/Fire tank). She was a preliminary try at what eventually happened to Terra.
Eclipse Phase (Peacebringer). An ornery Iwo Jima-era Marine bonded to a Kheldian? Oh yeah. Get off my lawn! *KNOCKBACK!*
I could go on, but I gotta bail. -
Quote:It sounds like you're comparing the ethernet port to the PCI/PCI-E? Ethernet isn't an option for me at all, the router is at the other end of the house. We were comparing the PCI and PCI-E types of Wifi cards, so the northbridge/southbridge(which I never knew before, nice to know
) sounds like the PCI-E would be faster, like steve had said?
Depends on what you're buying. If you're dealing with a multi-antenna G setup, no. PCI and PCI-E cards are absolutely equivallent.
If you're dealing with a multi-antenna N setup, you'll want to go with PCI-E.
But note, that you'll likely need a wireless router made by the same company as the card to take advantage of the thruput. -
Quote:Mostly that's bunk. Its a bit more dependent on your router's speed and range etc, but theoretically a PCIe card should be a bit faster.
On a board running the P55 chipset or later (brain-farting about the AMD equivallent), all the gigabit LAN ports (and any controller chips running them) are connected straight through the northbridge (where the PCI-E, high speed USB, SATA connections, memory, etc are). Not the southbridge (PCI, ISA, all the older, slower stuff).
So your actual thruput variance between an on-board gigabit ethernet port and a PCI-E card for ethernet should be approximately ZERO. Latency will vary depending on the solution, not the connection method (since they're both plugging through the same northbridge).
Additionally, if your router is doing 10/100, any extra speed is wasted.
And unless you've got an internet connection running above 100 megabits/sec (full duplex mode 100 up/100 down), your ethernet port speed is largely meaningless.
If you're talking wireless ethernet, don't even worry about it. Even the multi-channel "108 megabit" cards would barely max a PCI slot. Realistically, about 1/3rd to 2/5ths of wireless ethernet's bandwidth is consumed by overhead. In a noisy environment (pretty much anything beyond an EM-free "clean room"), and your device sees real thruput drop even further. -

Tanks. Just have a melee mentality and I like being the toughest thing in the room.Quote:2. What ATs do you mostly play, and for what reason(s)?
Mostly blue-side.Quote:3. Redside, blueside, purpleside, or any combination of the above?
The new doppleganger arcs that were introduced with issue 17 are quite enjoyable.Quote:4. What are your favorite story arcs?
I came to the game for the superheroes. I stayed for the community.Quote:5. What makes you like this game?
Still maintaining a Pirates of the Caribbean Online account, will probably be dropping that though. I barely ever play anymore.Quote:6. What other games do you play?
A little over 2 years.Quote:7. How long have you been playing?
1: I have somewhere in the neighborhood of 70 alts. About 10 are 50. Most of my toons are in the 15-30 range.Quote:8. How many alts do you have, what is the average level range, and how many are level 50?
It depends. While I'm levelling, not so much. I pay attention to things that give me the most benefit, but I don't make a habit of capping out at lower levels. After I hit 50, I decide whether or not I want to. Recently I just capped a Force Field defender and the performance of the toon is much smoother now. Less "oops, I'm dead" now.Quote:9. Do you bother with softcaps, set bonuses, and all that numerical stuff? What difficulty settings to you normally use? -

Quote:Pretty much any new high-end vidcard you're going to buy is going to scream for this. The goals for the PC would be 1. maxing CoH with UltraMode settings (@ at least 1280x1024), with nothing turned down at all, I've been playing for years now, mostly on Performance/Minimum, I wanna jump to the opposite end of the spectrum with the new PC.
Then your shopping is contradicting your stated purpose. Currently Intel is faster clock-for-clock than AMD. Additionally, as you bump up the number of cores, the overall speed of the chip goes down. This is done to stay within certain power consumption and thermal ranges for the platform.Quote:2. High processing speed, I've been looking at AMD processors over Intel, something like a Phenom X4(High end) or X6.
And more, CoH itself won't use more than 2 cores. So it behooves you to get a CPU that is operating its cores at as high a frequency as possible.
Intel has two options. The 1366 platform (which requires triple-channel) or the 1156 platform (which can take dual-channel).Quote:3. 8(or at least 6 if it's intel) gb Ram
If you're using it as a boot drive only, you're essentially spending a bunch of extra money so Windows starts up a couple seconds faster and nothing else. With your budget (stated below) you'd see better performance returns by spending the money elsewhere (faster CPU, faster gfx card, etc).Quote:4(?) I saw a demo of a side-by-side comparison of an SSD pc's boottime compared to a fast mechanical one, and am now looking for one of those too, the way I've been configuring pc's on sites lately has been 1 30gb SSD bootdrive and a 2TB sata III data drive.
I wouldn't worry about SLI/Crossfire for CoH. Performance returns (especially at your stated resolution requirements) are going to be trivial.Quote:I was hoping to keep the price under $1500ish, but with the SSD and a gfx card that can play coh how I want it that probably isn't possible. Another thing I have been trying to understand lately is Crossfire/SLI; I know it involves using 2 identical cards and raises performance, but (stupid question) can the ports on the 2nd card be used? like a 2 HDMI output setup? And is it really true certain games/apps can choose to "not support" crossfire leaving you with 1 mediocre card to work with for that app? (without fiddling with drivers? I tried updating a gfx driver this summer and got nowhere, I'd like the new card in this new pc to just come working lmao)
SLI/Crossfire essentially involve linking two graphics cards together to share workloads. One card will be a "master", and the one you hook your monitor(s) to. The other can have monitors hooked up, but during gameplay, they won't be showing you anything in-game. For the most part, the technologies are variants of Alternate Frame Rendering (one card does one frame, the other card does the next, etc, etc). So they can, theoretically, knock out higher framerates.
In practice, this isn't always the case. And more, at your stated resolution, a single card is simply going to have more power available to it than the rendering engine will be able to use.
Translation: At 12x10 on something like a GTX460, you should be able to turn every setting up to max (saving Ambient Occlusion, which is a MASSIVE resource hog) and still have framerates well into the 60's.
No. While you'd get a small performance bump from the 470, it isn't worth the extra money or the huge power consumption and noise increase.Quote:Would upgrading to the GTX 465 or 470 single be worthwhile?
A single 470 screams (SCREAMS) at 1920x1080 and will even play 2560x1536 with everything max at an acceptable framerate. However, monitors running this framerate would cost most of your budget right up front.
Don't even waste time with the 465. It's a low speed-binned 470/480 core. So it has all the drawbacks (higher power consumption, thermal profile, etc) of the higher end cards, but the 460 still beats it in performance.
A single 460, while not THE fastest solution on the face of the earth will still rip through CoH with consistently high framerates.
That and prices are pretty much always going to be higher at a brick-and-mortar store because they have monthly rent/lease payments on that brick and mortar (overhead). Online places have overhead too, but warehouse space is usually significantly cheaper than posh retail space. And more versatile too.Quote:Being able to walk into a PC shop and pick everything out at reasonable prices and paying their flatrate fee to assemble it for me sounds nice but I don't know of any around here, and if I haven't heard of it I bet their stock wouldn't have the high-end stuff like this anyway. -
The game already gives you a couple options for this, Clockwork Connection, Loa Bone, Shivans, Backup Radio, epic pets, setting up such missions in AE, etc.
-
A scrapper's probably the best balance all-around for a new player. Decent mix of HP, Damage Output, Defense/Resist. And really no weird mechanics (Gauntlet/Bruising, Control, Defiance, etc) to learn. Just beat face. The crits come when they will.

Quote:A while back I listed some level 25 accuracy generics for what turned out to be far too high a price -- asking 650k. They haven't sold. It's been at least a week or so.
But...
In the last five sales, there were THREE for a million.
Meaning that, at a time when at least some accuracy IOs were for sale for LESS THAN 650k, people were bidding 1 million. WHY?
Three simple words.
Buy It NAO! -
Quote:Im planning on respecing Zero Decay today. What do you guys think of my plan? (keep in mind that this build is for the fire/rad 'super team')
Level 35: Tactics -- AdjTgt-ToHit/EndRdx(A), AdjTgt-ToHit(40), AdjTgt-ToHit/Rchg(50), AdjTgt-ToHit/EndRdx/Rchg(50), AdjTgt-EndRdx/Rchg(50)
No! Bad! BAAAAAD!
Remember, Tactics is also +Perception. This will apply to Fire Imps as well. They'll be wandering further away picking fights and drawing enemy mobs back to us.
Take Vengeance and toss a heal or defense into it instead. More situational, but more controllable. -
Quote:but as it is, I think the rolls give better cash on average. (Doesn't help that I'm thoroughly bored with the level 50 villain alignment missions, so the chances of me doing four days of them instead of two are slim.) I can't prove that, it's just my gut feeling plus general opinions that I've seen. I'd be interested to see some hard data.
Not in my experience of 400+ merits in a couple days.
Granted random means random. But I picked up a lot of random crap. (Crap being the operative term.)
More than half my haul was procs. Most of which were glutting the market (both in recipe form and crafted). Literally, the components to craft were worth more than the crafted IOs. Maybe if I were picking up alignment merits from tip missions regularly, I'd say "oh well". But I wound up losing money in the long run from random rolls through RM to AM conversion.
Granted, it was an experiment and I'm in no wise hurting for inf. But the cheap bastich in me has a sour taste in his mouth over it. -
Okay, got off to a late start today. Had a "gabby" client slide in on the phone lines as the phone system was closing up...

So I arrived about half an hour late tonight.
We started out with three, and eventually grew to a 6 man team.
We did a bunch of tip missions tonight and a few radios. Our attempt at putting together a monster hunting team failed miserably. Freedom's GM population is fairly relentlessly hunted. So trying to find any of them up (let alone ALL of them) is probably an exercise in futility.
Still, we had a good time beating stuff up. I made a level and a lot of newcomers were head-exploding all over the place. It seemed like every time I hit fissure, someone's head would explode! One of our guys started out on a brand new Fire/Rad, straight outta the tutorial, and was 13 by the end of the night (and he joined in halfway through)!
Again, in the future, if you arrive and nobody's parked on the hill, shoot me a tell in-game. As soon as I'm able to, I'll respond (that means the big bad Zeus Titan trying to smoosh me to a pulp takes precedence over "Hi! Here I am!").
I'll have pics up in the morning. It's time to faceplant... -
Big King, sorry about that. I was VERY late getting out of work tonight. (Sometimes I think I need to smack my gabby customers in the mouth sometimes. After five "Okay. Have a nice night. Bye!" attempts, they're STILL yacking!)
We actually got if off the ground at 7:30 tonight. I tried to shoot you a couple PMs but you must have been in the middle of logging when I did so.
We ran a series of tip missions and an alignment mission. Levels were falling from the sky!
We then tried to do a monster hunt. Fail. Couldn't find a single GM out there. I think someone tipped them off that we were coming and they bailed on us!
So back to a few more missions and we called it a night. We'll try to do a bit better next Friday.
I'll have pictures up in the morning. Just doing a fast update and falling over. LONG day today. -
Asbestos undies. CHECK!
Lighter fluid. CHECK!
Plutonium. CHECK!
See you tonight guys! -

The issue is that 32-bit Windows can only allot 2GB of memory to any given single process (this includes 32-bit programs running in a 64-bit WOW (Windows On Windows) environement).
Realistically though, after about 1.5GB gets allotted, some programs can behave erratically. CoH is one of these.
