But I do find it sad that there's such a basic hatred here towards the concept of in-game "disadvantages/weaknesses" especially when you consider it's a cornerstone of the comic book genre. Anyone heard of what Kryptonite does to Superman?

Obviously I would never suggest forcing people to have built-in weaknesses if you didn't want them. But it's unfortunate that people are so vocally whiny about being against anything even remotely like it because I feel it's a huge part of the comic book experience that's being overlooked by the Devs of this game. When I was big into playing the Champions table-top RPG being able to work interesting disadvantages/weaknesses into your character concepts was one of the coolest things about that game and kept it from devolving into pointless silly Tankmagery. With something to actually have to WORRY about it made playing that game much more challenging and fun.

I will always be for OPTIONAL ways to introduce a workable Disadvantage concept to this game. The Devs provided us limited ways to do that when they gave us optional difficulty settings for missions and Task/Strike Forces but there's so much more that could be added. Basically I think being able to run around like "Superman without the threat of Kryptonite" has made this game ultimately too simple and less entertaining than it could have been.

But Superman can reshape planets, travel in time, move beyond the speed of light, etc. He's also invulnerable to just about anything but cosmic-level cataclysms.

Not invulnerable the way CoH heroes are invulnerable. With resistance, they still take damage and can die from enough. With defense, they an avoid most damage, but can still die from lucky shot syndrome.

Superman has sufficient strength to completely annihilate most common foes instantly. And only his upbringing prevents him from unloading on higher-level foes all the time (as he could still easily kill them).

Player strength/power is barely sufficient to knock out minions, and with some augmentation, the occasional weak lieutenant. It's pretty much impossible to one-shot bosses in the game and forget about EB, GM, and AV class characters.

Hero's in CoH already have a massive disadvantage/weakness.

    GAME BALANCE.

It is the universal kryptonite of each and every PC in the game.

In short, if you're serious about RP, you should have exactly ZERO gripes about inherent Fitness. Because you should already have explanations in place for the effects it will give to your PCs.

RP is about telling yourself and others a story. BE MORE CREATIVE.

    'nuff said.
  2. I have a better idea. If you want to be completely realistic about movement in the game, toggle Walk.

In actual combat, when you power up, just chalk it up to an adrenaline rush making you seem to move faster.

    There, nasty RP problems SOLVED.
  3. Additionally, there's a bug specific to certain HO's dealing with Defense/DefDebuff.

Membrane and Cytoskeleton Exposures provide +20% defense apiece.
Now, compared to an L50 IO providing 25.5% defense apiece, that's not-so-good.

However, due to the way Defense/DD works with HO's, many defense powers can ALSO accept Enzyme Exposures. These provide a 33% DD with a 33% EndRed and a 20% ToHit Debuff. BUT! Due to how Def/DD works, slotted into a defense power, it provides 33% Defense instead.

So this is providing better augmentation than a Level 50 single-aspect IO PLUS End Redux, PLUS (for powers like Invincibility in Super Strength, which also allow for ToHit buffs), a 20% ToHit improvement.

    http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Hamidon_..._Types_Exploit

This is why Enzymes are so ridiculously expensive.

On top of this, you can combine Hami-O's just like you do TO, DO, and SO enhancements. However, if you de-slot them and try to sell them, the +'s get stripped off.

  4. Above is my tank on Justice.
Brownian Cessation (yeah, it's a mouthful).
    He's an Ice/Ice tank.
    So stop...collaborate and lis*GAHHHHHHHHHHHH!*
WHY is he sitting just sitting there in the University building?
Ah HA! He's sitting in the Croatoa university building!
    And WHY you ask?
    Because he's TIRED!
    And WHY you ask?
Because he's been beating up magical creatures for the last day or so.
Why's he been beating up magical creatures you ask?
Because that's what Buck...who's here to...give him missions involving beating up magical creatures said to!
    Anyhoo, I've now unlocked Katie.
And was talking with Warboss. He unlocked it (but through Ouro...the pansy!) too.
So he may not be very "harvesty" (or whatever), but he FULLY plans on kicking Mary MacComber's teeth in! TEN TIMES NO LESS!
    So NYAH!

  5. This is this Friday guys.

If you wanna show up later, just shoot me a tell (see the first post in this thread for the info).

  7. Okay! A quick night tonight. We had 4 people there at 9PM and had a couple more straggle in a bit late (traffic sucks sometimes).

Because of this, we opted to get Warmly Yours her Midnighter badge. Meaning we got to run the mish at level 48/49.

Poor Rikti never knew what him them!

We even managed to get though the Lady Jane mission without getting her killed!

    *FAINT*THUD!*

Then, about this time, I had a client call (still have him yakking in my ear now) because I forgot to pull his temp extension off our phone system...

As such, I had to call the night early. Sorry to the people who didn't get to play longer. I'll make it up to you guys. More Firey-Raddy goodness coming soon!

Because Test isn't a stable, dependable server. When it gets locked down for closed testing, all "regular" activities get the flush and swirly.
  10. Absolutely spankin' run people.

Again, about the only way this gets much faster is if we do a nuke run.

  15. All-RIGHTY then!

    A nice turnout tonight.

I got home pretty much EXACTLY on time and logged in to find a couple people waiting on me.

We filled the team up, mostly new faces again tonight, and headed off to do some work for a little gal, name of Maria Jenkins.

Now this was the first time I'd actually run the new MJ arc.

Suffice it to say we've found some Kryptonite for the Fire/Rad team (or at least one of mixed levels the way we were). Resistance. En entire room (INCLUDING A WARWALKER) cloaked with targeting drones out...

Unfun for just about any team. Nightstar herself? No freaking problem whatsoever. But those danged mobs...

    Anyhoo.

    Infernal? INCINERATED!

    Chimera? CHAR-BROILED!

    Bobcat? BAKED!

    Neuron? NUKED!

I DO wanna ask what's up with Statesman though. The AI for the pet seems to indicate there's been a brain transplant from Fusionette (yeah, I know, impossible, but that's what it acts like).

All in all, a fairly productive night. Lots of lowbie leveling. And some of our regulars were hitting levels too.

We stopped just before the Battle Maiden mission.

Thanks to everyone who showed this evening. And thanks to the couple of people we picked up for riding along with us as we roasted, nuked, and bled all over everything in sight.

Again, you can continue to deny it. Great, fine and wonderful! Unfortunately, were Paragon to follow up with your suggestions, they'd be seen as espousing the sort of malice we're talking about.

    Quote:
Also, Statesman doesn't HAVE to die (or even die permanently), but it is a great plot device.
For a very long-running comic book where the main doesn't die every few years (or has never died)? Sure. Especially if you have bi-weekly or monthly circulation across multiple titles.

However much this GAME espouses comic book convention, it's NOT a comic book. It's a GAME. Updates come fewer and further between. And there's only one title. City of Heroes. It would be nearly impossible to explore the situation in the same way comic books are able to, simply due to the differences in sheer volume of content and delivery medium.

It's just a shame the community, in general, is aas staid/limited in vision as it's always been.
Sorry, but your view of the community is skewed by your own biases. The problem is, you're so biased, you wouldn't recognize moderation if someone shot you with it and caused you to land in another pile of it.

The one with the "limited" vision here is you, sir. The whole "let's kill him" thing has been done several times in the last decade in mediums better suited to it than CoH is. Yet you wanna rehash this same concept, AGAIN. In whether the medium of CoH is suitable for it or not.

There is a shadow that tends to loom. It simply turns the rest of the group into sidekicks.
Well, YEAH? States and most of the FP are some of the most powerful superhumans on the planet. While we aren't QUITE at their level, we're fairly butt-kicking on our own. Since the game doesn't have the ability to present a venue of cosmic-level power ("If I burp too hard, this planet will be blasted to space dust", "I went skinny-dipping in that black hole last weekend and BOY are my arms tired!", "Yeah, the universe ended and I restored it from a backup tape THE SIZE OF JUPITER!"), and being able to simply shrug off EVERYTHING would make the game...COMPLETELY BORING...they have to have some rationale for why we're super, but not TOO super (in the name of game balance). But they still need to give us iconic heroes and villains to give us something to aspire to and something to fight.

    Quote:
As I said. Maybe just have a disappearance as a murder/mystery tyype event.

Is Superman overused because he's on the cover of a Superman comic?

Yes, it WOULD matter. Look at the hate-on people have for Marvel (Retcons and Lousy Plot Twists R Us) in the last couple years. People simply will NOT abide by sloppy, slapdash, haphazard storytelling that isn't at least MARGINALLY sensible and internally consistent.

Again, I take comfort in the fact that you haven't the foggiest notion what you're talking about.

Part of what I do for a living involves content generation for a pen and paper game system (several of them in fact). My actual, real-world experience with storylines and content generation holds a lot more weight than your unsupported (and unsupportable) personal opinion.

The very fact that it's been stated by the Devs that they don't open up TFs to solo players is because the community would whine is proof enough.

Unfortunately, my experience on more populated servers when getting picked up at random is "everyone runs in separately and either wins or dies". There is no "team" in such a mass of *I*. It's just a bunch of Leeroys who expect you to be another one with a defense-capped, IO'ed-to-the-gills toon.

Even when hit over the nose with the problem (like an errant puppy), they continue with the "zerg and keep up or just lay there" approach.

Now not EVERY team I've been on has been this way. I've run into some HELLACIOUSLY fine PUGs, and most of those people are on my global friends list now.
  23. Honestly, no.

Insofar as the toon itself is concerned, it's the signature character for game.

Sure, DC has killed both Superman and Batman.
    Marvel has killed Captain America.

But they've had a LOT longer to build up brand recognition than Paragon has. Years. DECADES!

At this point there's no emotional impact about losing the character for most people.

On the flip side, since the character IS associated with the game so intrinsically, why the hell would they authorize him to be "bumped off". Especially when they'd have to rework several portions of the game's content to account for it. It's not just a simple matter of "The Statesman Task Force is now the SuperBobDan Task Force" and "Rescue Da Kegger from Tyrant" with Maria Jenkins.

It's a waste of time and money on a pointless gesture.

As for the other reason, a slap at Emmert. You can claim that's NOT what this is about all you want. It still leaves a distinct odor of bovine fecal matter. What's more, nobody else outside of the community who's familiar with the separation of Cryptic from Paragon is going to believe it either. Even if it WAS the truth. It's too juicy, and too petty a motive to pass up.

All this would accomplish would be to paint Paragon as an utterly petty organization with all the negative accouterments to go with it.

    Again, pointless gesture is pointless.

It's great that you seem to have a desire to improve the game. Seriously. It's just that it would be better if you pushed it in a more productive direction.
