Quote:In Dallas we typically get about four weeks of winter. Two at some point in December or January, and two more in February. I don't care for the ice, but at least our winter is happening when the Steelers and Packers are in town. I know it's cold where they play football, but everything shuts down here when it gets like this(and its all ice, no real snow). So at least since I have to watch them play a Super Bowl in my hometown, I'm glad it will be a pain in the ***.
That and with the roads being so bad, maybe all the women will be safe from Ben Roethlisberger.
Was down in San Antonio for a while and got pulled over by a cop one evening.
Him: "Don't you know this road's closed?"
Me: "HUH?"
Him: "Closed due to snow and ice!"
*Look out at few stray drifts in a confused state as I hand him my license*
Him: "Oh...A Chicago boy..."
Then he explained the lack of anything even remotely resembling what I'd recognize as road clearing equipment down there. I then promised to drive safe and continued on my way. -
Quote:Most of the cars around Chicago look more like this right now.so, what you're telling us is your car looks something like this?

Note: Image #4 are cars that were actually ABANDONED on Lake Shore Drive.
As far as I know, this hasn't happened in living memory.
Chicago got 20.9 inches (about half a foot shy of the record, but the storm was MUCH more severe (wind gusts up around 67 mph).
They actually found people frozen to death...Some after getting their cars stranded less than a mile from home.

Quote:Because playing a 'fender is about more than just "me me me me me".I'm supporting the team, I run maneuvers and tactics and assault and keep FFG summoned. I'm also spamming debuffs and holds and AOE damage.
Look, my first 50 was a bubbler. I wasted an enormous amount of time getting to 50, safely but sloooooowly. When my trapper hit mid-30s I realized that the bubbler had been eclipsed in every way. Well, except knockback powers.
If you've got a mature bubbler you enjoy playing that's great but why anyone would suggest someone roll a new one is beyond me. -
Quote:Pretty sure s/he meant for teammates. Both Traps and FF give excellent foundations for ridiculous personal defense potential. I have to admit it does kind of chap my hide that Traps has better personal defense at less endurance cost than the set that specialises in such things, but so it goes. Maybe one day FF will get the defense debuff resistance it deserves.
Ah! Okay.
Was a bit...nonplussed when I first read it.
And A-FREAKIN'-MEN to the DDR. -
Quote:Okay, my FF 'fender is/was a demi-deity/incarnate by concept already.Anyone less out there consider that all or most of their characters aren't "gods"?
And/or that they shouldn't become "gods" due to character conception?
My main tank, OTOH, is just gods-awful tough.
My corrupter is just a campy-evil practitioner of the dark arts.
My alt tank is a "failed" testbed for the experiment that eventually produced Terra (the DE villain).
My scrapper is just some loonie off his meds who runs around kicking people's
My PB is basically an ill-tempered old-man Marine who happens to be bonded to an alien.
My WS is essentially bonded to one of the offspring of the Master nictus from the ITF.
My primary blaster is a pseudomagical experiment conducted by Crey to see if they could trap/incarnate (as in give a body to, not the Incarnate system) a fire elemental in an engineered metahuman body.
My SoA is just a human loose canon (think the Arachnos version of Boba Fett).
My Widow is more or less a cousin of Becky the Tarantula Mistress (and has about the same outlook on life).
Almost none of my characters are, by concept, gods or godlike. They tend to be extremely powerful (and are seeking ways to become moreso).
About the only one NOT seeking this is my original MM. He's staying at L10, pretty much forever. Basically he's a homage to a certain Springfield entrepreneur who's very involved with our nation's energy policy. -
Quote:Uhm.I think the point is that Traps defenders can't get close to the defense softcap.
WHAT?!?!?
Not to call you mistaken or anything BUT...
Please peruse the build below and tell me the problems with it (other than price, even then, most of the sets used to build it are dirt cheap).

Quote:I'm sorry, but if you joined my team I would tell you to not attack... And if you did I would kick you... Knockback is awful, knockdown or knockup is acceptable.
Sorry, but if you can't deal with a bit of KB, then it's a lrn2play moment for you.
KB (and KD) are forms of soft control (people on their backs or flying through the air don't exactly have time to attack).
Yes, it can be inconvenient for certain types of builds that RELY on having lots of enemies in range (Inv/Dark/etc tanks, scrappers and brutes for instance).
And kicking someone simply for NOT ignoring half their build is STUPID.
Let me repeat that for emphasis.
IT IS STUPID!
If you'd rather fail a TF and waste people's time than deal with a bit of KB, then please PM me your global so I know NEVER to team with you. -
Quote:I should hope so.So I needs to get a new computer, and since I got an A+ cert I figure I ought to put it to use by building my own box.
The CoH client itself will only use about 1.5GB of RAM before becoming flaky and unstable (legacy 32-bit Windows app issues).Quote:Problem is, I'd like to make it as CoH friendly as possible. I know to make it high-end performance as possible - max out the RAM, best available graphix card - but the specifics elude me.
Not sure who told you this. AMD is CHEAPER for gaming. But Intel's still the leader in pure performance on a per-core basis.Quote:I figure AMD cpu and motherboard make the most sense (AMD is better for gaming), but what's the minimum model and the optimal model to compare for purchasing?
The nVidia Geforce GTX 580 is THE fastest single-card solution available.Quote:I keep forgetting which graphics card is best: there's about ten-fifteen different ones out there, even by the same maker, so I am confused there.
Unfortunately it's also $500+
AMD has some nice Radeon cards that are slightly less performance-wise, but infinitely more affordable.
If you're okay with the Radeon lines (and some people aren't), go ahead. Honestly, I'm an nVidiot. I'll stick with them.
Look at the technical forums for how to get CoH set up in Linux and what you'll be giving up.Quote:One last question: does CoH/CoV/Going Rogue play on Linux (esp. the freeware versions)? I'm being cheap here, I'd like to avoid Windows as much as possible...
Don't simply be a platform bigot though. Wintendo has it's uses. And it's the #1 PC gaming platform for a reason.
If you want to go cheap, buy an OEM license of Windows 7 x64. Much cheaper than the retail, at the cost of being locked to the machine. -
Quote:I have a nice FF/Archery defender. She's positionally softcapped for ranged and AoE, with decent melee (and godlike En/Neg defense). So i really want an FF corr because they do more dmg etc but sadly we dont get ff on corrs so its defender time, yet i am stumped as to what blast power to choose....i was thinking either dark, energy, or psychic......but not too sure really. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
She's not THE most damaging Offender out there, but she gives Grade A *KABOOM* (Explosive Arrow, Repulsion Bomb, Thunder Strike).
If I could log into the game right now (yet another *Unable to patch* error and the update sever is running a whopping 56K right now.....), I'd get you the build. -
We ate their livers with some fava beans and a nice chianti.

Quote:You called the person who came up with the /market vet reward an "idiot". If that is your idea of thought out and very intentional phraseology, it is clear you are not here to discuss anything, merely to insult and complain.
Good luck getting what you want.
No.
The person who came up with the /market command is someone who needs to get a damn pay raise.
The person who actually allowed it to be implemented needs a pay raise and a vacation.
The person who decided to make it a SEVEN YEAR VET AWARD (so that only ~50 people in the whole *BLEEP!* game can actually USE this highly useful QOL improvement and due to current dev mentality removes the possibility of it ever being offered to people with less than 7 years of play time in another form) needs to have their ******* brains beaten out with a rock.
This is just my opinion. So you're not required to LIKE it, if that makes you feel any better. -
Quote:So you're trying to tell us that we don't need to take it...by telling us that you took it anyhow?I hope you're being sarcastic here, because my stone tank didn't take Teleport until level 49. Instead, I used a variety of runspeed IOs to increase my mobility.
Oh sweet irony! -
Quote:WTF anecdote time. I assembled a team with friends to do STF, and we finished in 48 minutes with three deaths without a tanker. Meanwhile, another team that was forming before we had started was still one short twenty minutes after we finished.
On Virtue, the boat in Independence Port has been as crowded as full raid zones, with horrible lag and people/pets blocking mission entrances. Sometimes there'd be Ouro portals dropped on mission doors, making it impossible to enter. I'm not sure if it was griefers or just people being slow.
Do you want the NICE answer or the HONEST one?
WARNING! NOBODY...EVER wants the HONEST answer. And if they tell you they do, they're STILL expecting the NICE one! -
Quote:Also Army here, also use that quote... way too often.
I think my odometer's rolled over a few times.
Actually it's not years or mileage. It's actually a weird function of YEARS x MILEAGE = BEAT-TO-CRAP.
Dreading how I'm going to feel in another 30 years...
Hyper! Hyper!
OW! What?
Your arm fell off!
Just pick it up and put it on ice. I'll have it sewn back on later like the other one.
What other one?
*THUMP!* -
Quote:Okay, one small, but VERY important gripe. Our commitment to content keeps coming: the Issue 19: Strike Pack update is now LIVE! This update brings players ever-closer to tapping the power of their inner Incarnate with two major new features: the Weekly Strike Target, and the Rare and Very Rare Alpha Slot Abilities!
Every Tuesday, we will announce a new Task Force and Strike Force, or a co-op Task Force, as the weekly Strike Target. Completing the weekly Strike Target will reward a one-time gift of double merits and a bonus to XP. While these bonuses are only rewarded once-a-week, completing the weekly Strike Target multiple times will earn progress towards three new badges for helping other teams.
Completing the weekly Strike Target with a character who has their Alpha Slot unlocked will receive a once-per-week Rare Notice of the Well Incarnate Component, which can be used to craft Rare Incarnate abilities. Combining multiple Notice of the Well Components with Incarnate Shards will yield the Favor of the Well, which can in turn craft Very Rare Incarnate abilities. Some of these Rare and Very Rare Incarnate abilities can even trigger a Level Shift.
Look for the Weekly Strike Target to be announced every Tuesday on the NCsoft launcher and on the City of Heroes forums. For more information about the Issue 19 Strike Pack, visit the Issue 19 Overview Page!
Please note, there is currently an issue related to the Rare and Ultra Rare Alpha slots. More details in the Technical Issues & Bugs forums.
NO NOTICE OF THE STIKE TARGET ON THE LAUNCHER!
Are we supposed to simply comb through the forums every day looking for the correct thread?
It COULD go in the MOTD. WHOOPS! /gmotd doesn't work right now EITHER!
Sorry to harsh on you here Av. Just VERY irritating. -
While technically it's zoning, if you have an SG base, you're mere steps from a crafting station.
-
And the blizzard got me!
Missed Tanker Tuesday today!
Got home in plenty of time, but took some painkillers and laid down a bit to relax (the pressure drops from things like this aggravate the arthritis in my knees, back shoulder and hands).
Next thing I know, it's 4 hours later.
Grrrr!
And what's someone my age doing with arthritis?
As Indy said. It's not the years, it's the mileage.
- Blew the knees out weightlifting in HS (and about 5 years overdue for some arthroscopic surgery)
- A series of rather unfortunate slip-and-falls in similar weather. Oh yes, and flights of concrete stairs were involved. It's amazing my spine's still straight.
- Broke my shoulder in the Army (technically while on leave) in a slip and fall (again) in two places.
- Years of random damage to my hands in fights, and one SPECTACULAR spiral fracture of my left thumb that actually put me out of work for 3 months (working a hospital at the time and casts are an infection hazard).

No. They're just the names coming up on the police blotter. They're not necessarily the comic book characters (Steve Rogers or Peter Parker) or the actors (Adam West, George Reeves) who have been arrested. Just people with the same names or giving them as aliases.

I'm not big on power suppression in the markets. And I hate the fact that Praetoria's ONLY market locations are blighted with it like poison.
Yes, I understand that people spamming powers in the market are annoying as hell. And I'm not big on that either.
However, on a scale of 1-10 I find that:
Annoyance of people spamming powers? A 3 to a 5.
Annoyance of complete power suppression and being reduced to a slow crawl? A 12.
As for retrofitting EXISTING markets for power suppression?
NO! NO! and HELL NO!
If you're not quite getting what I'm saying:

However, if it comes to adding additional entrances to power-suppression rooms or an SG market interface?
YES! YES! and HELL *BLEEP!* YES!
And, again, for those of you not quite getting what I'm saying:

Likely it would take LESS time to implement one of these options than it would to retrofit power suppression to existing locations. -
Quote:Keep in mind that my parents are retirement age. So it's not like they went out there for primo skydiving ops, or ultimate tanning, or anything like that.BTW, if you live here, frequenting the casinos as part of your regular social life is a very ... er ... newbish thing. Most folks who have lived here for any length of time get over that pretty quick.

And there's only so many shows in town. And they had friends who were hitting the town Every...single...night.
This is why my parents had continuous drip irrigation set up for all their plants when they built their place.Quote:'Vegas had a record breaking summer in 2010: 45 days straight of temps over 110. Everything died. I couldn't keep plants alive even by watering morning and night. I believe it also killed of a lot of the insect life. We usually have an autumn influx of roaches, crickets, ants, spiders, etc. This autumn - nothing.

Quote:Glad I didn't push the Sandy Bridge rig out to replace my P55 one. Now I really have to find a replacement 1156 MB for my high price rig now that the MSI P55 MB is gone for good.
This is a double problem with motherboard manufacturers because it looks as if they stopped manufacturing P55 motherboards to get a jump on the P67 ones so they don't have any stock of the old stuff, in the popular configurations, to ship. Intel's going to be compensating a lot of OEM manufacturers 1st quarter income.
Not to be Captain Ultra-Obvious here, but YYYEEEAAAHHH...
