Quote:I just hope they've learned from the mistake of the CoP and don't make the raids an all or nothing affair the way the CoP is.This is a Raid System. Going by the Hami Raid and the raids of other MMOs, 8 is indeed a very small group for a Raid. Raids are part of what makes the game Massively Multiplayer, for it is a MMORPG.
Another reason why, relatively, as far as Raids go, this is shaping up to be a very casual-friendly, low-server-population friendly system. -
Quote:You also need to segregate out those who play solo for good reason. The ones who will only play solo have been screaming. And they need to be separated from the ones who *prefer* solo, but can live with occasional team play.
Like myself. When I'm at work, I can still manage to get on and beat the occasional face in. However, I get called away to do "stuff" at irregular intervals.
As such, it's patently not fair for me to join teams or TFs. I hate being forced to AFK in a mission (that isn't just me soloing) like poison. Moreover, while the company owners don't mind me pulling on the spandex at work, they WOULD object (and rightfully so) if I let it interfere with my job.
While I don't begrudge others AFK'ing in my missions on occasion, it CAN be problematic when we're held up because the mission is complete and the person is AFK for half an hour after. -
Quote:Actually, I was having problems before, but not to this extent, which is why I upgraded the OS and I'm planning to upgrade my ram soon. Yes, I am going to add 4gb to the 2gb (which will bring it up to 6gb) and later on if I still need it I was going to replace the 2gb with 4gb (2x2gb) for a total of 8gb. I think I may have solved the issue but it's still too early to tell. I talked to a tech guy I know and he recommended I install Avast and uninstall Norton (which I was getting free through Comcast). I did that and I cleaned up my registry with CCleaner and so far it's working good but it's only been about an hour. We'll see in a couple of days if this resolved the problem.Quote:I spoke too soon the problem isn't solved but it is much better. I reset my in-game graphics to medium which is what was recommended and the lag came back. I put it back down to minimum and I can play with very little or no lag so it's a workaround until I can afford to buy more ram. I think that's the best thing I can do for now unless you guys can recommend something else.
Were I a betting man, I'd say that you alleviated it to some degree by pulling notorious system resource hog Norton off the machine and replacing it with something that isn't as resource intensive (Avast). Freeing up processor time, memory space (and by extension disk I/O due to frequent swapping of heavily loaded memory).
Chucking more memory at it should actually create a rather drastic improvement and reduce swapping to disk considerably.
Also, since this is a desktop machine, you could throw an extra hard drive into it and move your paging file (swap space) on that drive to further reduce I/O contention. Just remember to remove the paging file from the primary disk. -
-
Okay, 2GB is okay if you're running the Win7 OS and doing a bunch of light computing tasks. XP was much lighter on memory requirements.
Additionally, CoH by itself, can eat up to 1.5GB before getting unstable.
Likely you're having massive resource contention issues complicated by excessive swapping to disk.
All of this will slow you down tremendously.
You didn't have these issues previously because your old OS still had plenty of free RAM. Your newer one doesn't.
More memory should help you out tremendously.
One more question, you're simply going to add the 4GB to the 2GB you have for a grand total of 6GB right? -
Already covered my weird success story here.

Quote:It's possible that they were experiencing database issues.Ok... now THIS is just getting odd.
I logged out of my villain using the "Quit to character select" button.
And what do you know... I have access to all my characters again, without the offer to buy Going Rogue. Unless Support wants to investigate further, I'm going to chalk this one up to either nasty login-server lag, or gremlins. Probably gremlins.
I've had a couple problems logging into the game because the DB server is unreachable or tossing off random errors. -
Quote:Thorn Caster: Shut the door! SHUT THE DOOR!that Monster Island was a good place for a mission door?
It's one thing to have to run across Peregrine Island to stop the CoT from controlling the Powers. It's quite another thing to have your mission door guarded by a Quarry and a Thorn...
Thorn Wielder: But why?
*Cue "King Kong" moment as big rocky hand shoots through the door, grabs the Thorn Wielder, and drags them, screaming, outside to a horrific end.*
Thorn Caster: THAT'S why you dummy! *SLAM!* -
Quote:Yeah. Ice/Ice (BABY TOO COLD! *AHEM!* Sorry!) is starting to really grow on me...Had a great time with the Sister Psyche task force crew.
Lots of levels were had and in the end, of course, we won.
oh..and I hate the new super stunners..a lot.
see you next time...
After the first mish or two I found myself going scrapper-mad and charging one group while aggroing the next. -
Quote:If you're noticing that you're seeing mobs insta-run on dropping Burn again, then it's a bug. Please /bug it so the devs can hop on it and beat it into submission.I said what I said, nothing more nothing less - I don't care what's the exact effect, normal AI or fear in Burn, the point is they run away and they do so instantly. I'll add that it happens against most mobs (any kind, except of course AVs) and that I have a grand total of 10% defense on this character.

Quote:So i bought CoH Deluxe version. The update is running now. Ive bought one month to see what it is like.

Welcome to the game!
Well, there are people who've been subscribed for 7 years STRAIGHT for a reason...Quote:Im a real gamer and i love fantasy games because they are fun.
But is the game good?
There's a LOT to do in this game. A LOT. Plus the fact that you're not limited to a single character or server in the game gives you TONS of room to try out just about any goofy little concept you may want to try.
If you're one of those people who were playing another game and wished you could play it out with different powers, here's your chance!
Graphics are not the game itself. They're window dressing. And while the game may not be as polished as some of the newer games out there, it's still plenty schmexy.Quote:Like the graphics, the missions, powers, the people etc?
As to missions, there's tons of them.
A lot of the newer, Praetorian stuff is very well done. Some of the older stuff is a bit flat and kinda stale (though probably not so much for people who're running through it for the first time).
Overall you'll note several types of missions:
Get the glowie(s) (either click on it or destroy it).
Kill all.
Kill the boss room.
Hunts (Kill # Enemies)
Patrols (A modified hunt where you're running all over hell and back to hit mission objectives.)
Escort/Kidnap missions (Rescue/kidnap an NPC in the mission and lead them out.
Then there are the hybrid missions (combining two or more of the above) where you have to complete all the mission objectives either in parallel (do them in any order) or a serial progression (a lot of the newer missions have additional objectives that are hidden until the last objective is completed).
And there are literally DOZENS of enemy groups out there. Each with their own challenges.
Here they're referred to as "supergroups" (or sometimes "villain groups"). SG/VG for short.Quote:And can you join guilds/clans? Is there such a thing?
This allows you to group up with a bunch of players and know when they come online (though their is a two-tiered friend system (local to the server, and global across the game) as well).
Moreover, supergroups have the ability to build bases. These are a combination of storage locker for excess loot, crafting stations, and transportation platforms to various points around the game. There's also the ability to build a medical center into the base as well. This way, if you die, you have a one-stop shop for re-supply before heading back out to beat some more buttock.
Has something like this been posted before? Almost certainly. But it's always a nice way to welcome new players into the community as well.Quote:Im sure this thread has been posted somewhere before by someone else so apologies for the spam if there has been. >.<
Thanks
Now there's bad guys out there that need their butts beaten. Get to beatin'!
Addendum: Also going to give you a couple VERY helpful links:
First and foremost. The Paragonwiki
http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Main_Page
THE site for just about any fact in or about the game.
Additionally there's City of Data. Red Tomax's site.
http://tomax.cohtitan.com/
This is a more nuts and bolts, hard-numbers site.
There's also a several build planners available, to allow you to construct a full-on CoH build outside of the game to look at the performance numbers without going to the time and expense of actually building it in-game. Available in an online version and a downloadable/installable version.
http://www.cohplanner.com/
The one you'll see everyone posting builds to the forum from is Mids. The downloadable version.
Suckerpunch's Planner is the online (web-based) version.
For data monitoring tools there's a couple.
There's the Titan Sentinel. This app tracks your badges, stats, etc in-game and can upload them to the City Info Tracker site. A REALLY nice feature is that it allows you to actually download your ACTUAL build from within the game and export it to Mids.
http://cit.cohtitan.com/download
Here you'll also find the HeroStats app too. This app allows you to look at the statistics for how your in-game avatar is performing. Damage output, damage taken, etc. -
Just as you're expressing your own (flawed) opinion that resurrecting Defiance 1.0 would be a Good Thing <TM>.
Starting a discussion on the boards and then dismissing people with "it's just your opinion" is about as productive (and mature) as slamming your own head in a door. Repeatedly. -
Quote:Did your reading this thread make you decide to be rude?
I'll admit that I'm obviously in the minority here, and that most of you think it's a bad suggestion, but that means that it is just your opinions that it's a bad suggestion. I still maintain that it's a good suggestion. All you have to do is express your opinion of it, I don't see the need to be rude about any of this.
Sorry, but no. I don't want to have to be beaten down to 1 HP just to be able to have maximum damage output.
This kind of bonus just gets an already squishy class killed far more often. Moreover, it severely hampers other teammates ability to support them, as you have this dichotomy between support classes trying to keep you alive and you running yourself ragged trying to "almost" die just for a few extra points of damage.
In short:

Yep. It's that time of the month again...

Quote:There is a fairly large group of fire/rad's who meet up on Monday nights (thanks to Hyperstrike!).
8pm CST. on Freedom. We meet on the hill close to the train in Talos Island.
The only real requirement (Hyper will correct me if i am wrong) is that you are playing a fire/rad controller
(though AM is sort of a req...)
all levels are welcome
Yep. Had a couple of brand new guys tonight while we were running +2x8.
Needless to say, they leveled shamelessly upon us! -
AKA: One Of The Weirdest STF's I've Ever Done.
Okay, finally gave up trying to get my Brute through an RSF for the notice and the accolade. Oh well.
Anyhoo, ducked into an STF on my Fire/Fire/Fire blaster.
2 Warshades
2 Scrappers
A Bots Mastermind.
A Plants Controller
A Corruptor
and me.
Needless to say, having enough damage was NOT our problem.
Anyhow, we steam through to the last mission and things are getting a little ugly. Nothing to really hold GW so she's jack-rabbiting. We finally manage to cut her down. Evidently, when she's running around chasing someone, she seems to forget to hit her AOE heal a lot.
Next, I accidentally pulled both Scir and Mako. The team took Scir and I evidently got left with Mako. It was bloody. Oh yeah...
But we whacked 'em down. I then noticed I had enough to craft my uncommon. So I did. Good thing too.
Flyer, no problem.
Then we came to Lord Recluse. The team leader (one of the Warshades) had had good luck with playing "chase my tail" with Tower Buffed Recluse. Not this time. He'd not had the opportunity to stock up on purples and as always happens, Murphy, god of "Aw Crap!" struck and LR aggroed. I had pre-stocked with some large purples and some medium oranges for the team captain, but never got to give them to him.
Down goes warshade! Down goes warshade!
So, to at least keep him off my teammates, I go into hover-tank mode. Unfortunately, Recluse on this one can jump REALLY *BLEEP!* FAR!
You'll see how far when we get to the pics.
Anyhoo, the leader makes a run for purples and I hosp.
On the way back he's slaughtering my comrades. So what do I do? Hold off like a sensible blaster? Wait for a plan?
HELL *BLEEP!* NO!
So I start wailing on LR with everything. LR doesn't LIKE it when you try to set him on fire. Oh yeah! AGGRO BABY!
So, I try to get the hell out of dodge and take him with me.
Up, up, UP I GO!
Then I find out EXACTLY how far LR can jump.
(Note: Click on images for full-size. WARNING! 1920x1080!)

Note: Yes, I know this is showing after the first two towers were down. I was laughing so hard about this working that I didn't get a chance to snap screenies before my teammates reduced the red and blue towers to slag.
I didn't think about it till afterward, but I'd gone Cardiac Core Boost. With the range boost. Good thing too! With my single-slotted POS snipe, I was able to smack him on the ground. And when he was jumping to the window ledge, I was able to hit him there.
Thus maintaining that aggro tanks love so much.
However, apparently this is JUST beyond the range of towers, or some pre-set tether. He'd no sooner get up there then teleport back down to the ground.
And DAMN if that didn't tighten HIS shorts! He spent the entire time running right by my teammates who were smacking down his towers to try to get to me.
Needless to say, I was able to tank Tower-Buffed Lord Recluse with a Blaster.
And nothing special either. He's a frankenslotted fiend. His (admittedly) ugly build is below if you want verification (thank you Titan Sentinel).
Anyhow, I'd like to tank my teammates.
Knowmad
Doc Black
Zyvandrus
Tree Druid
Grimmance X
Zarcon Wisp
Elexica
Because of them, and a bit of luck, my squish-tastic little pyromaniac has his +1.

Quote:The old "this is my dad and his brothersDoesn't just apply to video games. A friends daughter grew up with us playing our RPG's and table top mini games like Warhammer and she developed one hell of a backbone and didn't take sh** off of anyone including us.
Of course the fact that we were all a bunch of foul mouthed veterans who religously gave each other a hard time while taking no lip off of any smartmouth stranger may have had a lot to do with it.
When she became a teen and started dating her idea of a fun Friday night was to bring her "boyfriends" to our weekly gaming sessions and drop him in with the sharks to see if he was good enough to get along with us. I can't guess how many losers we scared off for her.

The villains in the STF, if accidentally group-aggroed don't RETAIN group aggro. Once you group aggro the heroes in the RSF, you pretty much HAVE to fight them all.
I've had two failures in the last week on the RSF because our team wasn't durable enough to stand up to that kind of pounding. -

Have to start while I'm still at work don'tcha?
