Yeah. Just get used to the "pain in the butt" jokes.
Just be careful. You'll wind up hearing them so much your eyes will automatically roll. You do that too much and you might strain something..

Quote:Glad. Any sort of surgery always has risks. Having people chop things off/out-of you is never high on the fun-o-meter (though some of the drugs can be SPECTACULAR).Hi, everyone.
The surgery went just fine. I was in and out of the hospital after about 4 hours. However, the recovery has been extremely painful. I have been on 3 different drugs for the pain ( one of which is a narcotic). It wasn't life threatening, but it was needed.
Quote:(hemorrhoids) I was having some bleeding and they said I needed have them surgically removed or I could become anemic.

Sorry. Hospital humor. 10 years in nursing really REALLY warps your notions of "funny". Obvious anatomical/scat references abound and are used and reused mercilessly. Absolutely GREAT way to ruin a nice dinner party.

Quote:The worst is over, but I still can't sit for very long. They say I should be much better by next weekend. Oi! -
Quote:You immediately drop to 2 (TWO) character slots plus any additional slots you may have bought. If i still have to buy power set and things like that i might as well cut out the middle man and buy the points
You lose access to any VIP content/costumes/systems you didn't buy or didn't qualify for under the Paragon Rewards system.
You cannot partake of Incarnate content.
You aren't being given points for free every month.
You lose access to the Exalted server.
You can't interact with the SG registrar. So you can't pay base rent.
You can't access the T9 VIP costumes when they're made available.
Quote:conceivably i played for 5 years before i quit at 15 d0llars a month that time comes up to about 900 and some change plus the amout for buying coh and cov new
Quote:if i had stayed an additional 5 years after today the money i would spend would equal 86400 points
Quote:not to mention that COH at largely is playable i find no incentive to buy any points when im allready investing this much money why not make that stuff free then people will subscribe like they did before.
Quote:Truth is they want to people to spen more than 15 dollars a month...
Yeah, it also means more profits for NCSoft and possibly raises for employees. So what? Doesn't the company have a right to profit from their product? Don't you think the devs deserve to profit from their labor? Happy, well paid workers are PRODUCTIVE workers.
The fact that the cash shop is a giant money sink while, comparatively, a Bad Thing for an individual's finances, is a Good Thing for this game.
Under the old model, we'd see roughly 3 issues a year and a couple Super Boosters with small costume add-ons for an additional price.
Now, in addition to issues, which are sporting more content per issue (including free costume pieces and powers), we're seeing new content, costume pieces and powers on a, roughly, semi-monthly to monthly basis.
Quote:900 dollars is alot of money to spend just to be renting time on a server
You act as if you got NO value for your money. That's just bovine fecal matter and you know it.
Quote:its a thought that is in the back of my head when im tempted to buy those points
Quote:lets think about it another wayi played off and on up untill mid incarnate rollout pretty much i have seen all of the free content and i must buy new content with those points if i were to marathaon play like i used to i would spend 3 times a much if not higher to keep getting content and new powers
As a Premium player you'd lose access to any new Incarnate content and you'd have to pay for the Signature Story Arcs.
Quote:logically speaking there would be no point in subscribing after the first month for anyone who used to play this game.
Your "logic" is treating this as a platform game. Where you play things through once and you're done. That's not how this game works.
Quote:maybey its a good thing I saved $850 and i didnt have to wait 5 years to do it
Quote:saving upi could get 24k over the duration vs the 86k
that 400 a month will never be a enough why would anyone want to spen 5 dollars above the subscription for a imginary hat.
Why is this a problem?
If Paragon is going to continue expanding the game, they're entitled to profit from the fruits of their labor.
You are NOT entitled to get everything for free, simply because you're a subscriber.
CoV shot that notion in the head.
The Super Boosters followed up with a couple miniguns and the idea went through a ballistic shredder.
The introduction of the cash shop basically went and dropped it into the sun.
Welcome to the new world.

Remember though. That's only the second half of the "Fun with other peoples' kids" method:
- Load them up on sugar and caffiene.
- Hand back to mom and dad.

Quote:No. As someone mentioned. CoH is a far more significant portion of NCSoft's NA/EU market. Quite simply it can't compare to the vast numbers in the Asian market though.Pebble: The only problem with those Quarterlies is that it reflects NCSoft's standings, not Paragon Studios. In fact, it appears as if CoH/V only makes up about... 2% of their revenue stream o_O This kind of concerns me. I mean, unless NCSoft is getting a relatively large return on their investment, 2% hardly seems like a worthwhile number. Hopefully that just means the other games are going GREAT, not that CoH is doing poorly.
Quote:Their big sellers are Aion, and L1 and L2. And I'm also concerned that right now, NCSoft isn't turning a profit at all, unless I read those graphs wrong. (Something about a bunch of one-off fees and severance payments gutting their raw profit)
Doesn't tell me much about CoH itself =/
Is it some huge, triple-A cash cow? No. It never was and never will be.
Is it a nice, steady, easy earner? YEP! And while they certainly wouldn't gripe if CoH suddenly sprouted 30 million paying players, they're not going to pass up easy earnings when the numbers you're talking about end in "millions of dollars"
NCSoft is a business. They simply don't tolerate products that fail to earn money.
Tabula Rasa didn't earn.
Auto Assault didn't earn.
Dungeon Runners didn't earn.
Note where these products are now.
DEAD!
CoH may not be going gangbusters. But it earns.
So long as it keeps doing that, the game remain live and actively developed.
So, in short. Trying to infer ANYTHING about the corporate "health" of the game from yearly earnings, or percentages of yearly earnings, or comparisons to yearly earnings past is a pointless mental exercise.

Still at gencon. Willgive input this evening.
-
Okay, for the people who got diverted to Champs (where we were NOT having it) from Champions (where we WERE having it), my abject apologies.
I completely brain-farted over the fact that they had two so-similarly-named establishments within (more or less) walking distance of one another.
That said, it was an AWESOME meetup. We had nearly 40 people there. Pretty much EVERYTHING was excessive this year.
As noted earlier, I got told to, politely mind you, sit and spin if I wanted to get 20+ people in.
So, we told them we had 12-15 and a couple more "might" straggle in.
Well, they MIGHTILY straggled in almost immediately and we were at 22 people.
So we talked with the host and they moved us into a different area. We coop'ed two more tables and were at 20-something. Then another 10-ish people showed up.
Well, present someone with a fait accompli and let THEM deal with it works too! Lord Nemesis would be proud of me!
I'll get pics up ASAP.
Then Clockwork01 showed up. He digs into his bag and draws out this HUGE stack of M&G 2010 costume codes.
Then does it again...
Then reaches in and pulls out an even BIGGER stack.
Then he tells me he's under orders from Zwill to get rid of ALL of them. OR ELSE!
No, I didn't wet my spandex. The Hyper-momma taught me better than that.
But DARN if that didn't almost debuff my bladder control to nothing...
Pretty much EVERYONE went home with enough for all their local friends.
And I still have a monster stack of 70 or so of them. They'll be going out to Real World Hero for their Christmas Auction.
So if you see an entire league of Vahz Meat Doctors running around in the next week or so, you'll know who went to GenCon!
Anyhoo, despite dropping this Warburg Nuke into their laps, the servers busted their butts for us. So I made sure to buff their tip at the end. They were a little embarassed, but hey. Good service deserves a reward.
We still had the problem of people being somewhat split into smaller groups during the meeting. So I'm working on that for next year. I'm going to see if we can reserve a ballroom or something next year for our own use and just bring in eats (pizza, sandwiches, soda, etc).
This way we can congregate how we want, we don't have to deal with seating-based segregation (and it'll be a bit less expensive).
I want to thank everyone who showed up this evening. It was a blast. I'd thank you by name but I honestly don't remember them all and didn't think of getting a sign-in sheet going (this seems to be my "Year of I Can't Remember Shhh...tuff"). As such, I'll thank you all as a group. It makes the sentiment no less heartfelt.
Okay. I'm out for now. My pillow's had its sleep mag buffed like crazy and I need to be up early tomorrow.
Like I said. Pics soon! -
Okay. We are at CHAMPIONS. We are actually seating . Right up front. Some of the staff weren't apprised of our party.
Sorry!
Come on over. -
Basically a snap-view. Various MechWarrior games had that capability.
As for doing it in CoH? Unsure. -
I left Monday night.
Got to Indy around Tuesday 1AM. Crashed.
Pretty much did all our hauling on Tuesday and Wednesday.
It's now Thursday... D-Day!
Also, on the meetup. Champs is being difficult.
Well, not Champs per-se. Apparently the reason nobody takes ANY reservations during GenCon is that GenCon is chucking out wads of cash to make them NOT do that. So they can do it if they so desire...
I'm going to get there early anyhoo and start agitating.
I'm thinking, next year, if we reserve a ballroom and stuff for meetings I'll commandeer it one evening and just bring in some pizza and drinks. -
Okay. Here are the facts.
You have 18 powers between your Primary and Secondary sets.
You have a grand total of 24 power choices.
You can, if you so choose, take ALL of them, and STILL have the ability to take an additional six powers with a mix of Ancillary and Epic Power Pool choices.
On top of that, you have at least 7 additional Inherent powers:
Brawl
Sprint
Rest
and the Fitness Power Pool.
So, if you want to just take "everything" in your primary and secondary (to start), go ahead.
You can always respec later if you find there are some power choices you don't "need" or dislike. -
First off. "What server"? That'll help suggest any server-specific events where you can acquire lots of it.
Ship raids, with center-holding duties can be really nice. I have a FF/Arch defender on Protector who's racked up a bunch of healing badges through her Destiny AoE heal. They run every Wednesday Night.
On Freedom, I run a Fire/Rads group every Monday (well, not this Monday as I'm driving down to GenCon this evening). We accumulate healing badges the way little kids seem to acquire dirt. -
Quote:Happy birthday to me! The Orlock is getting old! Soon I'll be getting aarp letters, and yelling at children from my porch.
Pfft!
You're now, offfically "Too old to trust"
But, from my perspective, you're still a 9 year old. And you missed being born on the absolute COOLEST day of the year by two days.
There's late, and there's fashionably later.
You're the former.
NOW GET OFF MY LAWN KID!

Yeah. It's one of "those" threads again.
Last time DXP weekend rolled around, I got almost nothing accomplished. Was on at odd hours, and my heart kinda just wasn't in it.
This time, I've been busy as hell prepping for a con and STILL was able to get a LOT done in-game.
I got two completely new characters into their low to mid 20's.
I got a bunch of characters in their teens into the low to mid 20's (about 5).
I hit 50 on my SoA.
I hit L49 (from 48) on my Ill/Rad
I got my last Praetorian on this server out of Praetoria (THANK BOB!)
I even made a few billion marketing.
All in all a nice, productive weekend. -
Slot it up for max damage and recharge.
Don't worry about Endurance on this attack. The recharge, even enhanced, is so damn long that the piddly dip in your endurance won't make a hell of a lot of difference.
One of the few attacks that Oblits are PERFECT for. -
Crank res as high as your monitor goes.
Turn everything on/up as far as it goes.
Never worry about FPS.
The 690's a waste of money as the game won't use the SLI.
But the 680 is like dropping Earth into the Sun just to kill a mosquito. -
"I thought you were dead!"
"And I thought...the only smelled bad...on the outside..."
"Fritz! Fritz, for god's sake! Get up! THEY KILLED FRITZ! THEY KILLED FRITZ!"
"We put you through the window man! There ain't no comin' back!" -
Just moved a toon over this evening.
So it IS working.
Make sure you're pushing it to BETA and not to TEST. -
*Come Undone*
*BlockSnip*
C'mere.
I have a little something for you.
-
Quote:I transferred a pair of characters off Protector last night.I've been trying to copy a couple characters over to the beta server and tried it once, waited an hour with no luck. Tried it again and waiting a couple hours, still no luck. Anyone else having a problem of copying a character over?
They went over fine. -
Quote:One of the beauties of my job. I'm basically sitting in front of computers all day. As long as I'm not generating obnoxious levels of noise, and getting my work done, I can pretty much do whatever I want.(Seriously, shouldn't some of you people who've posted thousands of times while you're at work be, y'know, ACTUALLY WORKING?!
[And yes, I AM partially serious, while also being partially wistful and nostalgic for when I had jobs like that myself!])
Most days, I work on clients remotely and browse the forums during the inevitable waits while automated processes (program installs, database conversions, etc) are "doing their thing".
Some days are deader than a Praetorian Percy Winkley. Then my post count jumps.
Then, some days, you see jack ssssquat from me. Why? I'm busy! -
i24 should give you some new tools to play with too.
