Quote:Honestly, with the paucity of unalloyed psi damage in the game I haven't noted a problem. And I regularly ship raid with my Invie. While Inv/ can be tough as nails, it's a set that's left a bad taste in my mouth because of its Psi/End holes. I could only recommend that set with a list of cautions you'd need to cover and plan to spend plenty of inf for.
And endurance hole?
HUH?
The only reason I have endurance woes now is because I took a Spiritual Alpha and stuff recharges so fast now I can click away like a hyperactive kid on crack. Even then, I have tools built into my Invie that allow me to mitigate even this problem.
As such, I've only had two endurance crashes since I alpha slotted. Both times I'd stopped paying attention and went into button-mash mode. Oh, AND gotten the recharge boost from Secondary Mutation. -
Quote:Don't get me wrong. WP makes a great tank. The "endless font of End and HP" can be SO satisfying for my inner button-masher. Even at low levels, my WP/Stone tank has awed fellow Tanker Tuesday players.I also think WP isn't as tough as Invuln even after IO's, though it is close. The superior resists, defense, and DDR are better than the regen in my book. However, WP gets Quick Recovery, which IMO makes the set better than Invuln offensively.
But it does have problems.
I have high-end WP and Invuln builds. I've played both extensively. For durability, the Invuln is just flat-out more survivable. That's no dig at WP. Just simple math and observation. -
Quote:You owe me a new monitor. I just shorted mine out spewing Coke all over it.spoken like someone who's never really played a real wp tanker
You missed where I said *SPIKE* didn't you.Quote:when you have 3000 hps, and are regenerating close to (or more then) 200hps per second, the occasional fire/en/neg/cold damage that slips past your softcapped defense won't scratch you in the least.
How much do you regenerate when you've been two-shotted in under a second? -
Quote:My main character, a fire/rad is approaching 30 and he finds himself at a developmental crossroads.
Here is my current build, disregarding slots and some misremembering the order in taking them:
1 - Char
1 - RA
2 - Fire Cages
4 - RI
6 - AM
8 - Hot Feet
10 - Combat Jumping
12 - Flash Fire
14 - Super Jump
16 - Assault
18 - Enervating Field
20 - Hasten
22 - Lingering Radiation
24 - Cinders
26 - Bonfire
28 - Choking Cloud
And here is the plan for the future:
30 - ???
32 - Fire Pimps
35 - ???
38 - EM Pulse
41 - Fire Ball
44 - Fire Shield
47 - Consume
50 - ???
You can see a couple of holes where i'm not sure what direction i'd like to go in. Here is the first.
30 - Acrobatics
35 - Tactics
I suppose this is the "safe" way. Two useful powers that will help me in a number of ways and be available all the time whether solo or teaming. This choice feels prudent and boring... As opposed to my other option...
30 - Mutation
35 - Fallout
...which seems more fun. And it also goes along with the Bonfire, Fire Ball, big explosions, burning alive-feel i enjoy about playing a Fire/Rad. But it would only be useful on teams... and even then only on teams where people are dying and with my playstyle I am usually one of the first to die as I am in the mix with the scrappers and tanks.
Local Man, i've read your comments about Fallout and in them one of the more alarming things i see is that you sometimes never get to use it because you forget it exists. This leads me to believe that A) the power isn't as cool as I think it is and B) It is really that rare to find situations to use it. I also see your other advice that this power is too situational to justify sacrificing other, more useful powers. I understand... but Fallout sounds sooo cool!
So, veterans, your thoughts? Will the Fallout/Mutation combo really be used enough to justify taking them? Is there a happy medium? If I take Fallout, is Mutation required? By going with the explodey option, will my character be badly borked without Acrobatics and Tactics? Should i just take Fallout at 50 as like a retirement present to myself?
1: No to tactics. It's effects on your Imps is detrimental.
2: I'd recommend a -KB IO over Acrobatics.
3: While Bonfire is cool and puts out nice damage, it's KB also breaks up close formations, decreasing the efficiency of holds and immobs.
What I prefer is snagging Maneuvers, Assault, and then Vengeance.
That, together with Fallout makes for a hellacious penalty for anyone dumb enough to kill one of your teammates. Vengeance, Fallout, Mutation a trifecta to ruin an enemy's day.
If you want a TankTroller, look at Stone Mastery. Fissure, Rock Armor, and Seismic Smash are guaranteed to make you feel tanky. If you're more worried about just simple survivability, Fissure, Rock Armor, Earth's Embrace. A nifty little self-heal/+HP going into situations with massive damage output.
Local's advice about the Psi pool for Mez protection is fairly good too.
As is his advice about travel power picks. -
Quote:If i had to rank them on pure toughness it would probably be stone or wp then invun slightly under them... Stone requires less effort to turn into god, but it has all those pesky self debuffs. WP requires a lot more effort to turn into god... but once you're there you'll probably out survive most situations that will take down a stone tank.
Actually no. WP is still quite vulnerable to massive spikes of energy and fire damage that happen to bypass defense.
A similarly IO'ed-to-the-gills Invuln has over three times the resistance to non-S/L damage and better S/L resistance outside of SOW. Essentially SOW brings a WP tank to a toughness parity with Invuln. But it's not perma. -
Quote:Nevertheless, I still don't recommend the boards for gaming-oriented systems. If the budget DEMANDS lowest-price then maybe. As a compromise. But not before. Such a board also severely limits his future expansion capabilities which stands in opposition of his desire for system longevity. If you look at that MB Hyper you will see that the SATA ports that would be blocked by a video card are pointing sideways, not up. Only the two that aren't likely to be blocked are pointing up. Manufacturers may be slow but they do eventually learn. Unless they are doing really low end uATX motherboards you find in store PCs, then all bets are off.
I just let my mom beat the crap out of the system I gave her (an old ThinkPad) until she screamed for a new one.Quote:Almost convinced my folks yesterday to buy a new "inexpensive" store system so they can finally turn their Pentium II 450MHz PC into a boat anchor. Sadly they didn't go for it. Still rocking Firefox 2 and Windows 98 SE on that beast.
She now is the somewhat dubious owner of a 17" Inspiron. She probably should have gotten a 15", since the 17" is a BIT big for her to be lugging around (she's a WHOPPING 4'11" and has some loss of strength in her arms due to decades of RSI in her job as a medical transcriptionist for the entirety of a VERY busy neurosurgery department). -
Quote:It's like BANG! With a WHOA! chaser....to someone who hasn't been following it closely?
I get the gist of it, but I was thinking about it and from the outside it seems very convoluted, and I'm curious if someone could explain it in a way that makes sense, and covers all the bases. That means, shards, threads, favors, incarnate xp, level shift, which ones are psychic and which are... physical? material? whichever the other ones were. Where can you use all your extra powers and all your level shifts.
And I'm not talking about making a guide, I'm talking about how you could ever explain this all conversationally. Feel free to try, I'd be glad to be proven wrong.
Then OOH!
Then WAHA!
Then ZOWIE!
Then YOWZA!
Then AUUGH!
Then OH YEAH!

Quote:Thank you very much for the confirmation, Dissolution!
And thank you, TargetOne, for taking the time to describe your current system and what you would do differently. From your choices it reassures that I am still in the right ballpark on trying to figure out the components for a new system.
I've been researching drives, and am currently leaning towards:
SSD: Crucial RealSSD C300 64GB (plenty of room for Windows 7 64-bit and City Of Heroes)
Hard Drive: SAMSUNG Spinpoint F3 1TB (many, many times larger than my current memory usage)
Optical Drive: ASUS DRW-24B1ST (just fine for a CD/DVD player and the occasional backup disk)
Any opinions or suggestions for or against these three?
*** I especially need some help from those who know how to translate all the numbers and features of motherboards to guide my decision of a motherboard, please! I would really, really hate to get good parts only to have them be incompatible or perform poorly because of the motherboard.
Would the MSI H67MA-E35 (B3) fits the requirements for the above three drives plus the Core i5-2400 CPU and GeForce GTX 560 Ti?
I am concerned that the MSI H67MA-E35 (B3) motherboard is either not compatible or not strong enough because the $99.99 price seems too low.
One question, are you going to be watching any movies on this machine?
If so, I'd suggest spending the extra couple bucks (if that) and get yourself a Blu-Ray drive. Will do all the burning a DVD burner will, will play DVDs, and will play Blu-Ray disks.
As to the board, do yourself a BIG favor, DO NOT buy a Micro-ATX board.
They're VERY cramped and not always the best for putting high-end graphics cards into.
I have a machine with an mATX board that wouldn't accept my old GTX 260 because of the SATA slots in the way. It's now one of my work machines and my home machine is built on a regular ATX board with more space.
If you were going for a compact HTPC or media server I'd say "go ahead". But not for a box you're going to be putting together for any kind of gaming.
As such, that sort of scuttles plans to use an H67 board for the most part, as every H67 board I know of is mATX. -
Another spiffy ITF run tonight!
1 hour and 8 minutes on a non-speed, non-kill-all "march through and kill anything in our way" run.
And we now have a viable strategy for the healing nictus issue. KILL IT FIRST.

As always, you can find the pics here. Last page. -

Quote:The common colloquialism for a situation such as this is "stepping on your dick". That's exactly what NCSoft has done.Cant even run CoH from the NCSoft launcher, it just continually loops around, trying to launch, then closing, then goes back to launching, then closes, ad nauseam. What gives?
I am very dissatisfied with this situation. I've tried checking if it's a situation where I needed to get a file (from the http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showt...34#post3520034 - South America clients), but the file isn't available!
I am currently residing in Costa Rica, as my work demands I stay here for long periods of time, and have been playing the game for several years now. It's really a hassle when suddenly, I can't get it to work, nor the supposed fix is even available for me to apply!
ED: yes, i'm aware this is another topic, but there's not even a discussion thread about the launcher. I managed to get my account verified, et al, with the security update anyways. -

Nothing quite says "polite and civil" in combat like mashing someone in the face with a hunk of stone/metal on a stick then dropping a lightning bolt on them for kicks. -

Quote:D) Register machines by their MAC adress. With MAC being Unique to each Network Card, that means that even if your IP address changes, you would be recognized. Mind you this is still not 100% secure, since the MAC is transmited inside of the TCP packet, but it is a much harder thing to snag that way, plus the spoofing of MAC addresses are not real prevalent.
Just my thoughts on the whole matter.
Still not secure. MAC addresses are spoofable. Granted, it'd take somewhat heroic effort, but still. -
Quote:Ah. I stand corrected. Luckily I'm using Google for my game account e-mail though.Correction:
They are NOT displayed on your NCsoft account page.
They ARE however displayed in one of the 2 reciept emails that you get from NCsoft whenever you buy a booster pack from them.
You get one listing the *purchase* of it...
And then you get another listing the *Code* and which account it was applied to.
I could see people using another service providing only space-limited POP3 being in deep kimchee though.
For those also using Google, or with a very lengthy list of e-mail history you can find it by looking for the following subject line in the e-mail.
NCsoft.com Purchase Receipt
Newer e-mails will have the subject of:
NCsoft Serial Code Applied -

Try temporarily disabling your firewall. See if that makes any difference.

Quote:Again, no.Yes every time your IP address changes, Which is more likely than not Every time you Reboot you have to answer the Frickin Questions again.
Most ISP DHCP lease systems will reassign you the same IP address again and again for an indefinite period of time when the lease expires.
Rebooting in the middle of a lease period and signing back on with a device with the same MAC address will result in you being issued the same IP address.
Usually only prolonged periods of downtime (beyond the end of a current IP lease, which in ISPs' cases,is usually 24 hours or more) will result in the issuing of a new IP address.
I've been on the same public IP address for weeks now. With multiple system reboots in that time. -
Quote:No. No they are not.The code is listed in its entirety in the confirming email that is sent out.
I'm looking at my e-mail confirmation for the Animal Pack. No code on there.
I'm looking at my e-mail confirmation for the SB: Martial Arts. No code there.
I'm looking at my e-mail confirmation for the SB: Superscience. No code there.
I'm looking at my e-mail confirmation for the SB: Magic. No code there.
I'm looking at my e-mail confirmation for the SB: Cyborg. No code there.
Now, TIME CARDS, yes. You get the code for those in the e-mail from the store. I know this because I just applied a time card to a secondary account to keep it up long enough to qualify for the Vanguard goodies.
But things bought directly through the NCSoft store NEVER EVER display the item codes in their entirety.
So asking people to provide these is ludicrous. -

Saturday March 5, 2011 my wife and I were blessed with the arrival of our son Adrian. He is 6lbs, 11oz, 19.5 inches long. Both baby and Mommy are doing well.
Ah, a Sonic/Poison Defender...Quote:He loves to cuddle and sleep, and I would rate his crying to a Sonic blast for Defenders. My first diaper change for him was an adventure! I didn't know newborns could fill a diaper the way he did, but wow! So while changing him he had his first pee! All over me! It was hilarious.

Whoa...
Sleep? Oh my. You ARE new at this aren't you! Sleep is a luxury you've foregone for the next year or so!Quote:Anyway I'm heading to bed to get some much needed sleep.
Congrats by the way. -
Quote:Look at the HBGary Federal attacks. One of the methods they used was social engineering using a trusted e-mail account. You know what is sad? Why is it we get a confirmation email saying that someone tried to login to our master account but could not prove their identity "If this was not you please contact NCsoft" blah blah blah....buuuuut how about giving us a IF THIS WAS YOU OPTION also so our ip address could then be unblocked and we could try again. Oh....WAAAAY too logical?
So, if someone breaks into your mail account, browses through your old mail, and decides to take a run at your NCSoft account, you want them to be able to auto-authorize them?
I'm gonna go with a <JRANGER>NO</JRANGER> on that. -
Quote:Not...QUITE correct. Not "every" time. While your IP address is still dynamic (randomly assigned), leases tend to be quite long and lease renewals keep you on the same address. You could, conceivably, go for months on the same IP address.Plus, I'm on a DSL connection that provides a Dynamic IP address. Which means everytime I connect I get a different IP address. Which means...everytime I want to log in my master account I have to re-verify myself because I'm using a different IP address. Which makes this whole thing even more ridiculous.
I do, however, agree that the NCSoft site needs some major work on it's functionality, as the framework they have in place right now could, at best, be charitably described as "***-tastic".
