Ohohohoho!

Actually, if tip missions did extend down that far, you'd have three options.
Arcs
Radios
Tips
Also, by running tips and swapping alignments earlier, it would render the hero/villain dichotomy even more stateless.
As a player, such a change might be welcome. For the devs though, there could be whole barrels of worms opened up by this though. -
Quote:People maging out of range, exploiting the environment whilst no one else attacks lord recluse doesn't constitute tanking, you are only tanking if you keep aggro off of people attacking him, and then without taunt control your just tankmaging, all this stuff is 2006 to me.
No team needs a <insert AT here> we play and team through choice.
I dunno. I think this is an unnecessarily split hair here.
Maybe some cream rinse...

Quote:Aye. Keep an eye on this. My OS disk with CoH and CoH Beta on it weighs in at 51GB.You may need to get a bigger SSD. You may not have enough room for everything you need to run off of the SSD plus CoH. Most builders I know or read about got with 120GB for plenty of room to run.
That includes:
Office 2007
VMWare 7
Mozilla Firefox
Mozilla Thunderbird
SQL Server (the main directory is on another drive but some stuff STILL gets written to your OS drive regardless).
Photoshop
Trillian
And that's about it.
With 64GB, if you're installing much more than I have, you're going to be bumping against 90% disk utilization, at which point filesystem performance goes for a cordless bungee jump.
However, I would recommend against buying the drives I did. Basically OCZ tried to stealth-upgrade their Agility and Vertex lines to .25nm memory from .35nm without changing part numbers. The problem is, the actual drive capacity went DOWN due to chip size and how the controller worked, and the newer memory has a lower write-cycle (by almost 40%), as well as massive performance degradation (speed is cut in half).
Even more unforgivable, they didn't fess up until called on it.
If you're going to spend $400 on a drive setup, you want PERFORMANCE. The new OCZ Vertex and Agility drives won't deliver that right now.
So look at spending the extra money for the 128GB version. -
Quote:No. I've looked at the things you've looked at, applied what I know of the market (and marketing in general), looked at the ancillary factors and come to the conclusion that you're incorrect. It is pretty clear that we have looked at the same thing and come to differing conclusions.
You simply cut out the middle-man and broad-jumped to a conclusion of High Prices = Corner Conspiracy.
You have yet to call any proofs. And I would welcome you attempts if you did.Quote:We can quote rhetoric and so called proofs at each other all day and in the end it wont accomplish or prove anything.
I'm not trying to prove what I'm saying. I'm simply saying that your "evidence" doesn't support your hypothesis. Mainly because your idea of someone attempting to corner the market isn't feasible unless you're talking about the entirety of the player base locking up the entirety of the market. At which point, you have no point.Quote:Neither of us is in a position to prove what we are saying.
And we're back to the whole "Well if everyone in the game conspired with everyone else we'd have a cornered market". Sure. That COULD happen. It's about on par with wetting down every cat in a major metropolitan area, and then successfully herding them for months on end.Quote:You can not say for absolute certainty that goods on the market are not being cornered. I lack the data to prove it is.
Why? You're doing okay by yourself so far in this respect.Quote:Like the OP I am done with the discussion.
Suffice it to say that there are people with a much better handle on how the market does and does not operate than you or even I. And they don't seem to agree with you. -
No. You can still tank LR. You just need to use different tactics.
Such as hover-tanking.
Or playing "chase my tail" with him.
It's only a a sub-optimal choice if you're looking for an up-close and personal, "I'm in ur grill, tankin' ur AV" tank. -
I'll go one further.
ANYTHING with Hover and the ability to grab aggro.
I've tanked him on a Fire/Fire/Flame blaster.
Now if you're looking for something that can just get up in his face and stay there? Well, just about any tank can do it with the help of inspies, both Purple to drive defenses up into the requisite 70-ish percent range, and oranges to boost resistance to help offset the occasional disasterously lucky shot. -
Quote:I "didnt play" because I know the character set to +0/x0 is not fun to play without something with it to keep it alive. The run from the hospital to the missiondoor isn't what I find fun about coh

So you're saying you couldn't solo an Elec/Fire BLASTER on +0/x0?
Now I KNOW you're joking. -
Quote:The speed it solo's or the speed it "levels"?It was a level 18 Electric Blast/Fire Manipulation Blaster. The speed it solo's since the "new" difficulty settings were added(god I miss "heroic" so much) and amount it dies weren't worth the effort.
I happen to have Various Elec/* blasters. I have no problem soloing. Granted, I'm not trying to solo x8 or anything dumb like that.
In other words you weren't playing the game.Quote:It wasn't all I did for the 45 minutes, I had a browser open, since CoH couldn't keep me occupied with the toon I was in the mood to play.
And I repeat, you got nowhere because you didn't play. And you're trying to foist the blame off on people not teaming with you.Quote:(It was after I finished getting a bunch of WSTs done, and I really didn't have other alts in mind to play, but THAT one I really wanted to get to 20 that night, and it got no where.) -
Enjoy your custom colored hork man.

ARRRRRRRRGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

Sorry, but this is my reaction whenever I hear "I stood around for X minutes then logged out because nobody would team with me".
So instead of simply picking up a couple of missions (maybe TIPS?) or something productive and staying occupied, you opted to stand around with a finger up your nose and a rectally inserted thumb going "Team Wif Me!" FOR FORTY FIVE FRICKING MINUTES!?!?!?
Really?
Respectfully, NO YOU DID NOT!Quote:I tried playing a lowbie the other day because it was a cool character concept. -
Quote:Okay, this is a very very strange issue I am having with our new lovely launcher.
It works great for loading up regular CoH..
but thats not where the problem is.
Trying to load up Beta, I follow the beta guide (copy launcher, add the /runbeta thing to it, install) . Beta installs. But will beta run when I hit run?
Nope!
Will it run CoH?
Yep!
So, I hit the run button .. get the little loading bar that says "launching" up to 100%... and it doesn't open the game.
I've hit repair, I've reinstalled both launcher and CoH Beta and yet this still does not work.
So far, I am sad cause of this ): Any of you fellow CoHers know how to fix this?
----
I just find it completely strange that I can run CoH perfectly fine, the bar loads the game launches, where as when I try to do Beta it does not launch.
-Yes beta is open tomorrow, BUT I just want to know that I can infact launch up the game for that.. figured I better check now.
You want to start the Beta install first.
Let it establish the directory and all.
Then KILL IT WITH FIRE (stop the install).
Then just swap the PIGG files and delete the CHECKSUM file.
Then restart the beta download. You should only need to snag the diffs from there.

Step 1:
Get to Level 50
Step 2:
Get to Ouroboros.
Step 3:
Find Mender Ramiel (From the portal, right and then back)
Step 4:
Run Ramiel's Arc.
You'll love the first mish. Not going to spoil it for you though.
The next two missions can be...QUITE challenging.
The final mish is somewhat tough, but nothing too horrendous.
This unlocks your Alpha incarnate slot and gets you your first shard.
You can use them to build special global enhancers for the slot. -
Quote:Thanks for the pointless marketing exercise. You may or may not get them because someone is willing to pay more than you are. This is not an indicator that someone is cornering anything. An easy enough test:
Put in 500 bids for item X at say 250 inf.
Drop 500 of item X into the market, at 200 inf, pretty much all at the same time.
See how many you get.
No. It means that lots of people have them selling for more than the price people trying to lowball are willing to pay. Some of those are long-term bids. Some are bids that were placed and forgotten. Etc. Etc.Quote:Of course, last I checked there were over 15k bids in for alchemical silver. Sounds like someone, or a group of someones, has decided to corner it to me.
I'll reiterate the point for clarity. As the market is not a closed or limited system, the ability to "corner" it doesn't exist. This is not to say the price cannot be manipulated. But you CANNOT corner it.
They also failed, if you'll recall. But they were trying because the silver market was still relatively finite.Quote:Read about the Hunt brothers. They didnt try to control production, they tried to control what was available on the market.
Again, you have roughly 70,000 players producing more than they can personally consume. By several orders of magnitude. Maybe not infinite, but the output is large enough, and alternative sources easy enough to come by that it may as well be.Quote:Further the supply of any salvage in this game is not infinite, unless you consider people to be playing an infinite amount of time.
You'll notice they are NOT implementing any sort of controls on the market as was done after the Hunt Bros. debacle.Quote:Sadly the people who can answer this with facts, eg data mine who is buying and selling and in what quantities are not speaking up.
So?Quote:Something else I havnt seen mentioned, this game like many others has gold farmers. A simple and easy web search will provide you proof of that.
For them, it's more lucrative to get their accounts to 50 on a decent farming toon then grind the crap out of AE farms. The overall single-transaction takes are lower, but much steadier and more dependable.Quote:Known fact: people will do anything to make money.
And how do we know that real estate salesmen haven't all been replaced by aliens bent on world domination (with apologies to Daniel Pinkwater)?Quote:How do we know that a gold farming operation hasnt purchased 50-100 accounts, filled all their character slots and has a few people actively working said characters 24/7.
If you want to spout random conspiracy theories, that's fine. Remember your own words. You don't have any factual data. Only wild theory.
Less work? Maybe. But you need a smarter class of player that understands how to use the market effectively.Quote:It would certainly be less work and more efficient then paying people to grind influence.
Even then, they still cannot corner the market. Nor would they. Sooner or later, they'd be stuck with someone undercutting them, eating all the profit, and leaving them with a bunch of worthless inventory. -
It really helps if you don't try to grind all your 50's to incarnate level in a couple months. All you do is burn out.
Everyone who's racing to get "The Ultimate" ASAP is missing the point the first 50 levels of the game taught them.
Fine, they race a bunch of their toons to full Incarnate with all the sweetest swag. THEN what?
-
Dammit! I want it to be in the game, on the character I intended before I even decide which toon I wanted! Before I've even decided to play! Hell, before I even get close enough to my computer to turn it on!

Since you're not SLI'ing, something in the 550-600W range should suffice. It's not as if you were overclocking or running SLI. So your power consumption should be relatively modest.
My preference is for the Thermaltake ToughPower line, though Coolermaster makes decent PSUs.
Silverstone are DAMN fine powerplants, but they tend to be on the expendysive side.
Antec is a name a lot of people swear by too.
Note: Stay away from units with 80mm fans. If the fan is ramped up enough to be useful cooling, it's going to be loud as hell. If it's quiet, likely you're slow-cooking your PSU.
Recommend something with either a 120mm or 140mm fan. -
Okay, I'd include screenies but my webhost is down with RAID failures at the moment. Hopefully I'll be able to get them (and my site) back up and running tomorrow.
Anyhoo, IORNCLAD's team thumped through Numina in 1 hour 9 minutes. -
Quote:There's a very cool undocumented and unsupported feature in City of Heroes/Villains: Customized Popup Menus! I did not find this and I have to give credit to Fleeting_Whisper and his awesome Guide to Customizing the QuickChat Menu and where ever he got his info from. Also a big "Thanks!" to Stargazer for bringing up the POPMENU command in that post so that I could explore it more.
First, everything technical I'm going to mention here, follows the EXACT same file syntax as FW's guide so just go there to get the layout of the Menu (.mnu) Files and come back when you're done to see how the /POPMENU command can expand on the functionality.
All right. Finally got around to futzing with this. First project, a macro menu to house all the calls for a ship raid.

Quote:Hmmm, I suppose I can throw in the Aegis +Psi Res IO in place of one of the existing Aegis IOs... that at least gives me 3% Psi res. Only lowers F/C res by 1%.
Think I'll give that a whirl and see how it goes. I do have Elusive Mind as a backup. =) It'd be nice to have a general all-around AT, though. Soft capping everything (minus Psi) helps, I'm sure.
Unless you have massive psi resist already, the 3% Psi unique is a waste of time. It wouldn't diminish incoming damage enough to actually matter. -
Okay your defenses are completely overslotted.
Resist Energies is overslotted.
Foot Stomp isn't slotted for enough EndRedux.
You're worrying way WAY too much about psi and not enough about getting your defenses up.
He's a a build that's rather expensive but gives you much better defense overall. Note: You can get buy without the stupid-expensive PVP IO and still have decent defense. This is just a concept build to show you what can be done.
