Quote:Okay I have no clue what you are talking about.
I asked people here about what the minimum I needed to play ultramode and then decided on a budget and got the best I could get above those minimums while staying within my budget. I think I did pretty good with this set-up.
Intel Core i7 870 processor (4x2.93Ghz/8mb l3 cache), 8GB DDR3-1600 RAM, AMD Radeon HD 6850 1GB, 2 TB Hard Drive - 32M Cache - 7200 RPM - 3.0Gb/s
Talking about the flip-side of decent performance.
System longevity. -
Quote:Yeah I just got my new tower about 2 weeks ago and I couldn't find anything that ran the game for under $700. I settled on spending a thousand and got a decent system. Still using my old monitor which is an Acer widescreen 19 or 21 inches. Too lazy to measure.
The games looks great tho. I've been running Ultramode maxed out.
I bought my system right at the end of 2009. With the 260 it ran nice. When I upgraded to the 460 at the end of last year, it ran even nicer. Since I was able to step up to the 560 (for $36 it was a no-brainer), it runs even nicer still. Outside of tweaks and upgrades, the basic system itself (Core2Quad, 8GB RAM) still has plenty of years of play left in it. -
Quote:If you're willing to run at under-ultramode settings, you should be able to find a LOT of systems that'll have no problem running CoX for under $700 (although, the major OEMs like to put total **** video cards in their systems by default, so customization would be necessary with them). I'd be surprised if you couldn't find a system for ~700 that can do ultra mode as well.
(if you're looking for laptops, you'll have to be much carefuller with them... OEMs like to use integrated graphics solutions that are barely capable of running Aero...)
Yeah. Had a buddy recently ask me to find him a laptop capable of Ultra Mode for $1000. I really couldn't recommend anything to him. All the ones right at the < $1000 range were crappy integrated graphics or sub-par discrete that wouldn't be able to do Ultra mode.
Luckily he scored a bonus at work and was able to bump his budget just a bit so I could recommend a good solid system for him. -
Quote:No. The same amount of people would be affected either way with a straight-up merge. A nick collision is a nick collision. Period.I actually think LESS people would be affected if the NA server lists merged into the EU as opposed to the other way around, if nothing but for the fact that theres gonna be some truth in this exageration, how many NA players have made an EU account to come see us using the same global?
It's simply less work overall to prune a smaller database.
Again, not supporting this. Just saying. -
Quote:What exactly does this have to do with the fact that the decision was made, originally, simply because the overall EU database was smaller? Are you trying to intimate that the US database would be smaller than the EU database were there not a lot of EU players there and legacy accounts that swapped to EU?Think you need to read it again, I'm reading it as EU players will have more NA accounts than NA have EU accounts.
That nugget grew wings and can fly now.
I find that somewhat unlikely. Not impossible. Unlikely. -
Quote:Not to be offensive, but how you take my words is up to you. If you want to be offended by them be my guest. That isn't how they were intended. And I refuse to go all mealy-mouthed and weasel-worded simply to spare the feelings of someone who obviously isn't thinking objectively ("objectively" being an optional filler term).Hyperstrike, as much as I appreciate that you feel the need to get involved in an issue that clearly doesn't effect you, could you maybe try to reply without coming over as a troll please?
It reads as very rude.
Please reread some of my other posts on this. I sympathize and agree with your concerns. HOWEVER, running around making accusations, insulting the devs and expecting nothing but the worst of them while projecting DOOOOOMMMM! scenarios is not "questioning a decision". It's being a jerk simply because you feel you've been slighted. (Note: Not saying you Fish. Using "you" generically.)Quote:Some of us EU players have GENUINE concerns about losing our identity and have the right to question the decisions made by the higher ups.
In a word. No.Quote:As I say, you're entitled to your opinion as much as anyone else. Can you just make it less .... pompous?
In a sentence. I'm not trolling and feel no legitimate reason to alter my rhetorical style simply because you dislike it. -
Happy berfday to you!
Happy berfday to you!
You look like a Rikti monkey.
Because your secondary mutation misfired too!
Okay, so it doesn't QUITE keep to the rhyme and meter. So what?

And who says the devs aren't turning things green?

Even Arachnos is getting festive here!

All I can say is:

Quote:No. Impatience IS the problem. You can yell and scream all day that it isn't. But you're wrong. Period.I haven't been very clear. Impatience is not the problem. Patience is. Ideally everyone would be equally impatient to finish their transactions, but a certain loophole in the game makes it so certain people don't have to be impatient. Marketeers can alt their way to having massive available storage space.
So you basically want to jack the game around to suit YOUR play style.Quote:Making the game fun for players who primarily focus on going out and killing stuff is my objective.
Just NO.
Here's four words for you.Quote:Players who primarily focus on killing stuff run out of salvage space fast, because they're getting salvage drops. They also run out of market space, because those 30 salvage items usually aren't all the same kind. It's not uncommon to show up at WW with over 20 different salvage types in your inventory, and only about 5 minutes to spare before your team will want to start the next mission.
- VENDOR
- VAULT
- STORAGE BINS
Sorry, but you need to stop trying to insist that everyone play the game the same way you do. It's NOT going to happen. -
Quote:Bull. While I have a lot of toons, and I don't play all of them every day, my toons DO get played. And none of them are strictly "market only" toons. The problem is that the people who are not in a hurry to sell are not active toons. The patient ones are marketeer toons that only log on for a few minutes a day to change their auction settings.
Since everyone can have just as many character slots and market slots as I have, I'd like to know how you arrive at this assumption.Quote:Marketeers have exponentially more inventory space available to them than active players do, so patience is a luxury that costs them nothing.
But you are right about one thing. Patience costs me nothing.
The best way to sum up the problem is that there are impatient people out there. As such, these people help drastically inflate the price of various items. This creates market niches that marketeers sell into to help stabilize the price and profit points.Quote:The best way to sum up the problem is ..... imagine an auction where 200 people show up who are only willing to pay 5 bucks for an once of gold, and 10 people show up who are willing to pay 500 bucks for an ounce of gold. At WW..... if one person puts out a bulk bid for 200 ounces of gold at 5 bucks each, but 10 people each put out single bids at 500 bucks an ounce, the market sees 200 low bids vs. 10 high bids.
No a "the will of the people" argument. This is NOT a democracy. And simply because 10 people who avoid the market most of them time feel gypped due to their own incompetence and impatience doesn't mean it's so.Quote:In a situation where the will of 10 people is being subverted by 1 person, that 1 person will have an enjoyable experience, and the 10 will not. Do you see how that's a bad business model for an MMO?
This is an unprovable assumption. Likely a good assumption, but unprovable nonetheless.Quote:Except most of the time when you see 200 bidders, they are not 200 separate bidders. That's one player using 2 or 3 toons to set up a bulk bid.
But these players are not responsible for your emotional pyrotechnics. YOU are. I submit that if you're allowing yourself to get ticked off by the state of the market YOU are ruining your OWN day.Quote:They're not trying to ruin my day. They're just trying to make money and inadvertently ruining it.
So, the devs should basically just kill the market for the sake of a couple people who narcissistically classify themselves as "the REAL players" because they can't get everything they want for cheap from the market. Never mind that they can get it for set price points from AE, merit vendors, and A-Merits?Quote:The problem is that very few people are ruining very many days. Accident or no accident, it really should have a stop put to it.
Uhm. YeahNO. -
Quote:Resolution is okay. Contrast is fine. The only down-side is that it's a 5ms monitor. It's not that you can't game on such a monitor, but you may experience small lags in graphics. Small things like going to hit a green inspie at the very last sliver of health only to find you're already dead on the ground. Stuff like that.yeah I am more worried about the settings then res sense I can only play at minimal to performance with this laptop(can go recommended for costumes).
would like 90-120 range but can do up to 160ish as long as its just not a marginal increase. I prefer performance anyways but don't want to waste my graphics card to much.
edit: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824009261
how does this one compare to the 2 in the 160-180 range hyperstrike posted? is the promo code savings already on there? if not its only 129.
Okay, but I'm a firm believer in "You get what you pay for." This doesn't mean I automatically go out and buy the most expensive stuff. Just that in some cases I spend a little more for a better class of component.Quote:also spent like 644 total on the whole tower so anything much above a 1/4th of the cost of whole thing is not happening.
No, the monitor you linked to doesn't have built-in speakers. I live in an apartment, so I don't really like using speakers. I'm a headphones kinda guy.Quote:edit: would prefer built in speakers. on that note if it doesn't mention having or not having speakers does it have or not have them? -
Quote:in either case happens to screw as many players as possible and all of them Euros. Even if the solution were to screw NA players, there would be less players screwed, since there are more EU players with NA accounts than NA players with EU accounts.
So you're trying to say that there are more EU players PERIOD, than there are NA players?
I'd love to know how you came by this little nugget of data... -

Quote:I just got this graphics card (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814150447) and want to figure out what I need in a monitor to show most of what it can put out. Not in a super hurry to find one due to stupid UPS losing my case so I am now waiting for replacement to ship to me(will not come till the 1st-5th if the estimate process time is correct) or lost one to magically appear.(oh and ordered on the 4th so just a tiny massive bit annoyed)
monitor I have off old desktop is an HP vs15. what percent of my graphic card's capabilities could this display?
What kind of budget are you looking at?
If you're looking for a nice high-res monitor with stupid-low response times, you could do a LOT worse than these $300+ models.
SAMSUNG P2770FH ToC Rose Black 27" 1ms Full HD HDMI LCD Monitor 300 cd/m2 DC 70,000:1 (1,000:1)
ViewSonic X Series VX2739WM 27" 1ms HDMI Full HD 1080p Widescreen LCD Monitor w/ 4 port USB-hub300 cd/m2 DC 100,000:1(1200:1) Built-in Speakers
If those are a little rich for your blood, maybe look at these more economical options in the $160-$180 range..
ViewSonic VX2239WM Black 22" 1920x1080 2ms Full HD HDMI Widescreen LCD Monitor W/Speakers 300 cd/m2 1000:1
SAMSUNG BX2231 Glossy Black 21.5" 2ms Full HD LED Backlight LCD Monitor Slim Design 250 cd/m2 DCR 5,000,000:1 (1,000:1)
I don't really recommend a 1920x1080 monitor for anything less than 20" though. Running at that resolution on smaller monitors can be REALLY hard on the eyes.
If you need to go with a smaller monitor you're probably going to be locked into lower resolution monitors in the 1440x900 range.
At this point you're talking 17-19 inches and $80-$120. Also, almost universally, these monitors are 5ms response time. They're not "terrible" or anything, but they're not "great" either.
Also, are you looking for just one monitor? Or would you like to go with two. Note, I wouldn't recommend spanning games across two monitors (the bezels get in the way of targeting). But it's nice to be able to run a TF or raid and have something like Paragonwiki open to the pertinent info on my second monitor. -
Quote:I live with the pain. I usually get anywhere between 44K on a bad connection to 50.6K on a good one. Usually however it's 45.2K.
Now Web Accelerators help a lot with something like reading forums or news and tech sites but it's nowhere near a 1.5M or 3.0M DSL. My folks have ATT DSL and they just got the speed boosted from 1.5M to 3.0M but I doubt they use 10GB a month much less anything close to 150GB.
And for me I'm too far from my CO for DSL. Hill in the way for satellite. Not willing to pay $25 for a wireless cap that I already exceed just with dial-up and I'm literally 30 miles away from my cable company and they promise someday to upgrade the trunks to offer us boondockers internet access.
Well, depending on your expertise, you could always try clubbing together with neighbors for a bandwidth cooperative. -
Well, I didn't want to be TOO positive and get labeled an NCSoft butt-monkey.

Besides, look at all the enjoyment some of these people are getting out of the perception of being "persecuted".
Let's not ruin their fun!
You HONESTLY think NCSoft is going to let people go without the ability to change after this simply because they've already used it once?Quote:It also assumes you haven't already used your global chat rename.
Give these guys at least a LITTLE credit.
Wish I knew what to tell you about that. We're still months out here. This was literally announced days ago. Give them a chance to formulate a plan that doesn't have half of Europe going up in flames.Quote:Personally I'm not overly concerned about the global chat name - I'd actually prefer the one on my inactive US/EU Test accounts over my active EU account - they are different and I don't expect it to be affected but would definitely prefer the account rename apply to my US rather than EU account - those share the same account name so will be affected. -
Quote:Depends on the size of the database and what is being altered besides merely the global name.I don't see the relevance my financial means have to this debate. It would just be as cost effective to give yankess a NA prefix rather than EU players an EU prefix.
Quote:I will cut them some slack when I am convinced that they are taking players legitimate concerns seriously rather than just mouthing platitudes
So...WHAT? You want them to invite you to NorCal, Austin or Seoul and let you in on the strategy sessions?
You've been with the game this long, and seen some of the actions taken in response to player feedback by what is acknowledged as one of the most accessible and responsive development crews extant. Yet you're still gonna DOOOOOOOOOMMMMMM?
If you're this locked in stone about it, I'm not even going to try reasoning with you. I've got better things to do than headbutt monoliths. -
Quote:Put it this way.As has been pointed out numerous times the EULA for EU players forma a legal contract and is based on English Law and any remedy on that falls under the jurisdiction of the English court system - the two parties involved being the player(s) and NCSoft Europe. The NA EULA is irrelevant in this case - i.e in this you are 100% WRONG
Let them try to enforce a decision over servers residing on American soil, owned by a Korean company. Meanwhile, NCSoft Europe can do little more than wring its hands and point fingers.
In short: Good luck with that.
Prove? You mean like citing all the extra work and man-hours that needed to be put in to shepherd and arbitrate renames and name disputes on both sides of the pond?Quote:In practice NCSoft would probably have to prove that this was as you say proportionate and that is far from easy where renaming either party would be equally easy as would renaming both - the latter being inherently fair. NCSoft have already shown that they have previously merged two systems - namely the forums where the same issues as to regional identity were involved. In that case they chose to rename both and then allow the players to request renames later. The courts are administered by laypeople in general and you would need to consider whether they would understand why they would regard the two situations as being any different. At the end of the day it is desirable to avoid any risk of litigation especially where issues are unclear - the only ones to win if things reach that stage are the lawyers.
This time they chose to deal cut out the name disputes and simply deal with renames.
They may also have a technological reason why manipulating both databases is less than desirable.
Translation. Give in to extortionate demands or be sued.Quote:What I expect NCSoft will do on this is to ask their legal department for advice and are likely to be told that whether they would win or lose such a case it would be an expensive matter and marketing should understand that risking getting involved with court cases with a substantial number of paying customers is not good business practice where alternatives exist.
Yeah. Great options. -
Quote:Regarding the trial account, there are some rumors of a reactivation weekend which will give you the opportunity to go in and alter the global on that account so it doesn't conflict.Got a response from support regarding removal of expired trial account. This ofcourse was not possible, then again my query wasnt read, cause i was assured i can always change my password whenever i want...
Funny that the word password wasnt even IN my question.
So trying to get it escelated.
Since this announcement i havent played CoH, i am not planning to quit, and ill prolly come back to playing regulary, but atm the sour taste in my mouth, just makes me not want to logon. Really hoping SOME comprimise is made, but to be honest, i expect nothing to change.
Agreed. Don't even get me started on the verification.Quote:ps: the new login security is the most stupid idea on ncsoft site ever. It offers practically no extra security, only hassle. And i work with securing computer networks and data storage. Then again this is an NCSOFT issue not a CoH/paragon studios issue. -
Quote:So you're volunteering the time, effort and money it'll take to implement a "fairer" system? This global name change policy has clearly demonstrated that EU Players are considered second class.
Didn't think so.
Were the US database smaller than the EU one? It probably still would have been.Quote:This policy would never be enacted if it was to the detriment of NA players rather than EU.
Also, the policy has NOT been enacted yet. And, due to the outcry, it is being reconsidered.
Again, they are looking at other options right now, as it has been impressed upon them how sensitive people are to the issue.Quote:I'm personally not very attached to my global name but even so, the way in which global name clashes are to be handled leaves a bitter taste.
So cut them some slack. -
Quote:And when you vote a polition in to lead a country they can also run said country however they chose within constraints.
Doesn't mean that they should go against what a large majority of the population DOESN'T clearly want even though they have the right too
Yep. Welcome to the real world. -
If you say so.
Just as I pointed out that there's a usage of the term lacking the sinister connotations.Quote:Knightinggale has clearly stated the use of the term in the manner in which he meant it to be taken.
You evidently missed the rest of the argument about the labor and time involved apparently. Those factor in as well.Quote:As for simple math? Not at all. If my name conflicts with someone with the same name on an NA account then that's 1 for 1. If 100 names conflict then that's 100 EU names with 100 NA names. In other words, how can it effect a larger or lesser amount of people?
But in the default case (your "screw the EU scenario"), there's only one, SMALLER database that needs to be reworked and incorporated. Rather than two, with some sort of metadata filtering going on for decisions between collisions. Less time, less work. The math is still quite simple there.Quote:So, whether you take it as it being person for person or account for account, it's still the same number of people being effected.
I agree. As I've stated previously, my preference would be a system working thus:Quote:I personally think the VET way is the best way. If someone in America has the same global name as me then of COURSE I'll be gutted but, hey! They thought of it first
Active vs Inactive/Demo = Active Wins
Inactive vs Demo = Double Lose
Active vs Active = Seniority
I'm merely objecting to the the cry of "discrimination" (in the negative connotation). It's fairly evident that nothing of the sort is taking place here. -
Quote:Well, here is the build I've been working on. It caps def to S/L but E/N is at 42% (capped with 3 foes in range of invinc), 284% regen, DP is perma while hasten active (hasten has a 12s downtine) and endurance doesn't seem like it will be an issue at first glance.
Now, I realize this build is going to be expensive and time consuming but that's all part of the fun. Not to mention that I have a fair amount of these IOs stock piled already.

Think about replacing the Zinger set with Mocking Beratement.
Your S/L defense will come down about 0.6%, but you'll still be above cap, plus you'll gain back 3.125% F/C. If you six-slot MB, you'll get another 2.5% recharge (losing the 5% from PZ, gaining 7.5% from MB). Or keep the Zinger in there to turn it into another weapon.
Given unlimited funds, I'd look at something like this:
Better defenses, better recharge. You're giving up some +Regen and some +HP. Given how tough the tank is, and the fact that you have Soul Drain up every 4 seconds...Code:| Copy & Paste this data into Mids' Hero Designer to view the build | |-------------------------------------------------------------------| |MxDz;1422;683;1366;HEX;| |78DA65935B4F135110C7CF6EB702A5954B6FDC0A6D110A05D63690784D7C104C305| |48BA86F862C706C17EAD2B4D5C89B9FC1077DF4DD8FE35DFC062AEA935142ACB3F3| |3FAD35DB74FB9BCEFCCF993973660B8F9783423CB922B4E0D58A55AF6FDEB69C3D5| |9F317AC92BD2DBA8410E3F06C2ECBFBD2A94B73D579F4B0E2C89AB56557ECC6415C| |850BB222A5B96CD5F6600EAC3A6559934EC36C19C1E2FE7EC55C9356D5764A01FEB| |351957227C4E635BB546E50A0AFA5DA91B57AD9AE8657AAF6B6B942094B079B05AB| |DE90B583212A2B4BCFAB1EFAD1E8114D9F48939111FA3830C130528C9FAE8E3F4D4| |314096961AC334EDD023618DDBB84BC7843720DDBFAB5A2E6BABA6F300205608D11| |BC09CCF1AA5FB4CAA792F82EE9AEEBF445E002A3FF32709EF19AE47E55BB1FB50FA| |2F641D41E41EDEF48D7A5745DD045A08B411783EE37E970CCA6BFA7CC29866C6097| |31B2075418630F1831BAE15EECAEF79E2318422CB418E5E3A549125292108E9AFC0| |FC794B64FB5AB6F905A901063319F1B190F037120CA4846181F68D50077B9A90F70| |469F48B588CC71CA1CC691B4F021D73BFF89A151248A88888E70153E72C5559FE2A| |E9110A925DE6632072C323E52DE61E8B4E10822487742915154648C7ED6DD1DCE7C| |01BE02478CE913AEE12DC9132A610217338D8B99C6C5647031EF4937A17413D065A| |0CB40370B9D410748AB3EA7D515CCB6880AFFD056536AC4A630C759CC7116733C8F| |399EC71CBFA046CF40AECFE0AEB2C002F03224C49C12CCDDE11467D781240B0E29A| |1A9FA6C62CD24959953AE5C8A5D6346FBF5A22F7DC4ACD17E319B594F34E7F1E43D| |9E458F67C9E359F3788A864A4B1E8D3D3DFDEDB7B2791468BFD72AFAFD9F47D7EEE| |2E4E843FE3A5FCA37CF921F9D4B9EF224E49F03CF18EB34B27975F67B0177CC6017| |3BECAD0EDBEAB0FF02AE6AE949| |-------------------------------------------------------------------|
One other thing you might want to think about.
If you're going to be at it long enough and build up A-merits, get yourself the PVP Teleport/3% defense IO.
You could then do something like this:

Wasn't actually suggesting you switch to a dialup modem. Merely suggesting that you've forgotten how painful dialup really was if you could say that there's not much difference between DSL and dialup.

Quote:Methinks you've forgotten the rather HUGE performance gain of going from 33.6K (56K was a condition only acquired in labs and very VERY new install areas) to 1-3M. Going from 3M to 20M isn't a hugely noticeable difference, save of huge file downloads or multiple smaller downloads.DSL is barely a step up from dialup in terms of speed and bandwidth. There's only so much you can do with twisted-pair copper wires.
Try going back to dialup for a bit. Feel a bit of the pain.
