Quote:Because SI notation is inherently base 10. The usage of what are now commonly accepted SI prefixes predate computer science and extend all the way back to the inception of the metric system (1790).These are pretty much used only by harddrive manufacturers and crappy tech journalists that like buzzwords. You've got half a century of 1 KB = 1024 bytes, and the vast majority of the tech industry still laughs at the word 'kibibyte', even harddisk manufacturers acknowledge that they're making things up, since at least until recently (haven't checked in a few years), they'd have to put a disclaimer on their box that redefines the units!
The usual retort is that they're using the SI prefixes incorrectly!!!! But that's not true if you remember these are really base 2 numbers. And why try to redefine a unit of measurement after its been in widespread use for, what, half a century? There isn't one.
So in short:
Kilobyte = 1024 bytes (the world), or 2 ^ 10 bytes
Kilobyte = 1000 bytes (hard disk manufacturers)
Kibibyte = a brand of dog food
The problem is, they never should have begun tacking SI prefixes for the binary numbering system used in computers.
Again, it's a matter of "close enough" at the time and not enough forward thinking. -
Quote:I'm having this issue on my GTX 560 Ti.So yeah.. annoying thing really, that keeps happening randomly when i open my contacts tab or even talk to contacts in person now too.
The game freezes along with the whole computer for a few seconds, then i get the message that basically says: Video driver stopped responding/became unresponsive and had to be restarted.'
So far i haven't found a reliable way to get the eror to occur, but it seems to happen after i've been playing a while, after which the character that it happens to, cannot be logged onto for a while since the same thing just repeats itself over and over and over again.
Now, no other game has the issue, only City of Heroes so am at a loss on what to do, since the game has worked perfectly fine in the past for me.. been wondering if it was a recent patch that started the issues, but really dunno.
EDIT: Using the NCSoft launcher and doing a consistency check on the game, seemingly 'repaired' some files, but the issue still persists and after more 'crashes' if further consistency checks/repairs are performed, some files are again seemingly fixed/repaired.
It's happening at irregular intervals. But it's frequent enough that I don't even want to lead mixed-level TFs anymore after having a couple break REAL bad when a person several levels below me took the star upon my crash.
Not sure if it's solely nVidia or not.
Can you provide dumps of your CoH Helper and Hijack This?
(See my sig if you don't know how.) -
Well. It's been a week (almost exactly). Did I win? HUH HUH HUH?
=) -
Okey doke. Been a bit remiss with my picture updates.
So here's our last two weeks of them.
Last week we hit up the Numina TF. Spanked the living crap outta it. The only thing that slowed us down were the *BLEEP!* hunts...

And then this week, we opted for an ITF. Unfortunately we were short some people this week. So we picked up a few fillers (Fire/Kin, a Kin/Archery and a tank), and proceeded to whomp Rommy's butt in 1 hour and 1 minute.

Pictures above are linked to gallery pages, rather than the full-sized images. So you can peruse them at your lesiure.
I want to congratulate Goldburn on dinging 50 during the ITF run. Been a while coming there buddy! -

If you want to collapse them all down to a single bar again hit the right Alt key on your keyboard.
As for powers on auto-fire. I normally hide them on Tray 4. This way if there's any problems with Trays 1-3 (like with me, zoning occasionally locks the Alt key down so powers in Tray 1 (attacks) don't fire and I accidentally wind up turning off armors (Tray 2). -
Quote:Yep. A bunch of filesystems slaved together to create one massive space to dump files.Funny thing I was just reading about a zetabyte file system (ZFS). A zetabyte is 1000x bigger than an exabyte.
64-bit address space is about 18.44 exabytes.
It's not new. Been around for years.
I'm talking about a singular storage device. -

Quote:I'd think that the booster would be for base designers and everyone could use the results.
Just like custom costume parts can be seen by every player but only the purchaser can put it on their toon.
Thing is, unlike something with more general appeal, like costumes, etc, I don't see this selling well to other than the small community of base builders. Not that I'd say "F*** NO!" were it offered!
Now if we had WOW's subscribership, and they could simply throw cash at silly stuff like a pack for custom butt tattoos that never get seen because they're ALWAYS covered by costume parts, I could see them doing something like this. -

Quote:Honestly, you don't NEED the purples. The only reason I have them in the build is because I had them already. that's it. Otherwise Foot Stomp would be frankenslotted and Laser Beam eyes would have a set of Thunderstrike in it.yeah keep meaning to download mids when i get a chance, unfortunately i keep forgettign to do it and cant do it on my work computer you know since im supposed to be working and stuff. anyways gonna get that soon and thanks for the build advice. i have several sets already, just not my more expensive sets like hecatomb and armageddon, only got one of those each and just looked it up yesterday and they go for about 500 million now, i was a little shocked, but anyways thanks again just needed some pointers. what i tried to do before was get my weaknesses shored up by buffing up defense and resistance to energy, fire and psi through enhancement bonuses.

One reason why this won't happen.
Bases are, ostensibly a COMMUNITY resource. Adding all sorts of *schwing!* in there for a booster? How do people who don't use the booster use the stuff? How do they perceive this stuff if they can't use it? If one guy buys it is it good for everyone in the SG? Or do you have people without it become second class citizens? -
Quote:Actually, I seem to recall hearing once the term "googlebyte" is used to refer to the average amount of data that goes through Google in a month. However, checking it out just keeps getting me the googolbyte definition now. :/
Of course, either would be a crazy amount of storage at the moment.
Especially when you consider that one Exabyte is considered enough to essentially upload all information about a person throughout the course of the entirety of their life. So if you could be rendered down for data, an Exabyte drive is what they'd store you on.
*Looks down at his gut*
Well, maybe 1.5 exabytes in my case.

Hyperstrike [ss/inv]: He's a little too...um...big to actually drive anything (Being 8' tall, 5 feet wide, and 2 feet deep has some drawbacks in a world where the average height is around 6 feet). The hands the size of hub caps with fingers as big around as a closet rod of tends put the kibosh on fine manipulation as well. He abuses the SG teleporters for long trips, uses superjumps for local transit, and hover for finer vertical movement (though he steers like a pregnant whale).
Vortex Core [fire/rad]: Spent BIG BUCKS on that Paragon Transit unlimited pass. Tends to run everywhere, and occasionally makes use of the SG teleporters (but she's leery about "getting her atoms scattered"). So she tends to hoof it. Though her compatriots (and her mother) accuse her of watching WAY too much anime and think that her posture is positively atrocious.
Eclipse Phase [pb]: Tends to fly everywhere (and has a cloaking device built into his suit). Gets his kicks from popping out of nowhere as he transforms into dwarf form and scare the living bejesus out of bad guys (and anyone else in the area). He's your typical mean and ornery old coot (though if you call him that he'll tell you to get off his lawn and rip your face off for being there in the first place).
Montgomery Burns [Mercs/Dark]: He doesn't really go anywhere. He has his minions go for him. -
Okay, I have one word for the costume.
STRIPPERIFIC.
Seriously, she looks as if she actually tried to breathe she'd come popping out (in several areas), never mind actual combat (though you never know, the "show them the main guns" maneuver might stop LOTS of fights).
It looks like a slightly chopped down latex getup from some sex toy shop.
I can see that on set it'd probably come across as darker and not so shiny but damn.
As to the costume recolor, if they made the pants that dark they'd come across black on television.
As to the "she has no cheekbones". Part of that is her cheeks aren't all that prominent to begin with. In one of the vids posted here, her cheeks are only prominent due to the makeup she's wearing. So part of this is probably flat-face, and part of it is probably a badly done airbrush job.
And while I'm male, sexist pig enough to fap a bit. That's about as far as this costume's appeal goes. -
First, grab yourself a copy of Mids.
Okay here's a look at my current build. Mainly a "cap S/L and done" build.
Don't sweat the purples. They're leftovers from when they were MUCH cheaper in i12. You'll also see where I screwed up my last respec, as the intention of the build is a smooth decay of defense down to level 30 (accidentally misplaced a couple L35 IOs). Probably going to rework this when I get a chance. Also the fact that we get 5 levels of powers above our exemp level now may necessitate that I reduce other IO levels to 33 in the future.

Now here's an alternate version of the build gone hog-wild with abusing Hamidon Origin Enzyme Exposures for the Defense/Defense Debuff loophole. It's also softcapped to all types save Psi.

Quote:Okie. Story nightmare.
So, I hit 41 (Yay!!!)
My toon concept is that she was merged with a Kheldian Warshade. Lydia (The toon) was sepperated from him (The Warshade) and through mutation kept the powers of Gravity and could create Force Fields.
So, I went through all of the powers and I wanted stone, because of gravity's effect on the earth, but then I clicked fire because I already do smashing damage and thought Id have more edge with fire, which I do actually.
Now, my concept is, well, plain off.
I even teleport and stuff like a Kheldian. I have stuck very close to my theme, but this busted my theme. I could do a respec I know, but I sort of like fire, Im just not sure how to work it in. Why would I have fire?
I thought maybe because of cosmic forces. But still...meh, I cant figure it out.
If you have an idea that would be appreciated.
Nothing ever quite goes as planned for supers.
Spidey wound up with extra arms once.
He also wound up with a suite of Iron Spider armor as well.
Hell, he even toted around the Uni-Power for a bit.
Your hero has been traveling the world, kicking butt, taking names, and getting exposed to all sorts of queer energy and mystical effects. Who's to say WHAT effects that'd have on a superhuman metabolism. Not to mention the fact that your hero may have had various dormant metahuman traits that pre-disposed them towards high-level fire powers.
So one day he's locking the bad guy down HARD, and the next thing he knows, his captive bursts into flames. Kind of a firey "Scanners Headsplody" effect.
"Now where the hell did THAT come from?" -

Quote:Yeah, it's about the GPU nVidia GeForce GTX 260, GTX 460, and GTX 560Ti.I got that from the very last part of your post. It was the 260, 460, 560 that had/has me baffled. Tho looking at what I posted about my new system I'm guessing that those numbers might refer to the processor?
Okay: For memory:Quote:Oh and I know what GB are, and I know that TB are a lot more than GB but how much more I have no idea.
1 Byte = 8 Bits
kBbyte = 1024 Bytes (2^10)
mByte = 1024 kBytes (2^20)(1,048,576 Bytes)
gByte = 1024 mBytes (2^30)(1,073,741,824 Bytes)
tByte = 1024 gBytes (2^40)(1,099,511,627,776 Bytes)
pByte = 1024 tBytes (2^50)(1,125,899,906,842,624 Bytes)
For hard drives.
kByte = 1000 Bytes (10^3)
mByte = 1000 kBytes (10^6)(1,000,000 Bytes)
gByte = 1000 mBytes (10^9)(1,000,000,000 Bytes)
tByte = 1000 gBytes (10^12)(1,000,000,000,000 Bytes)
pByte = 1000 tBytes) (10^15)(1,000,000,000,000,000 Bytes)
Why are they different? Essentially an attempt by computer scientists to frame the numbers they were talking about in a way that people who weren't used to binary numbering could understand, then someone at the hard drive companies using the metric notations literally to make their products seem larger.
