    1. There is no "healer" AT in the game. There are multiple ATs that can toss off heals.
    2. Auto-following, rocking the aura, and doing nothing but buffing the team is commonly accepted as leeching in the game.
    3. Auto-follow, ESPECIALLY on the team tank (or other aggro grabber) is usually considered foolish and disruptive as you're usually not built to be diving in and grabbing mobs the way they are. Hence you die and provide zero benefit to the team (a small change from your previous status as providing "almost" zero benefit).
    4. More damage output is always welcome, especially when the team is ALREADY steamrolling an event.
    5. Trying to keep everyone's health bars at 100% is a waste of time time and endurance. A little damage on teammates means nothing. So healing them every few seconds when they've taken 0-10 points of damage is imbecilic.
    6. Many players also detest the "throb" of someone rocking aura.
Note: There are a COUPLE instances when rocking aura is an appropriate tactic. But as a general "playstyle", it's not acceptable.

    1) Would anyone want to read my thoughts on Sandy Bridge and SSD with CoH?

    2) If so, would here in the Technical forums be the best place for it, or is in the Guide section more appropriate?

Thoughts and opinions would be very welcomed, please.
An SSD will speed up general OS load-in times and programs whose startup times are constrained by disk I/O will see a boost.

With CoH, you'll see a small performance bump on zone loads (for the portions of zone load that rely on local disk I/O).

What you WON'T see is an FPS boost.

    You apparently forgot this fella.

    And this fella.

  4. Basic strategy should be:

    1. Try to maximize AoE buff coverage.
    2. Keep your own damage output up (to satisfy "participation" requirements) and spread damage around.
    3. Use your ST buffs and debuffs only when you see fit (no buff-botting).

Honestly, this means you'll contribute less to the team overall (since you're forgoing some fairly powerful individual buffs in lieu of damage output), but you'll be spared the 10 thread "consolation prize".

You have them, they're hidden by default

    1. Open up a filesystem browser (go to Computer, etc).
    2. Click Alt+T (Hit the Alt and T key at the same time). This'll bring up the menus.
    3. Hit O or click on Folder Options.
    4. Go to the View tab.
    5. Check "Show hidden files, folders, and drives"
    6. Not sure, but you may have to also UNcheck "Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)"
    7. Click OK. You should now be able to browse and find said folders.

As a dirty colonial (Wait! Give me just a centon here!) I'd like to apologize to those whose names are going to change.

But what I'm most worried about is the fact that this is happening so close to the anniversary event itself.

17 dropped about this time last year and there were...issues during the event.

While this isn't as huge a visual change as 17 was, I still worry that the underpinnings will be...shaky up to and through the event.

Yes. And that fact irritates me. Not so much because of the cut scene itself, but because other players dive in on the mobs before the rest of the league assembles.

The K-class processor will allow you to fiddle around with overclocking with minimal risk to other components on your machine.

It's got an unlocked multiplier (FrontSideBus x Multiplier = CPU speed) so you don't have to fiddle with FSB (bumping FSB also bumps the speed of other components on your system (like RAM) which may or may not handle the overclock as well).

You can slowly bump up the multiplier and check stability and temperature.

I'm in hotel with 384KB wired and it's dragging through the loads. I can't reach objectives to send the team to the next mish without it stalling/crashing.

Also, over the past few months, the game client on ocassions appears haunted. I can't see teammates on maps for short periods, I can't dismiss my pets/call unless I zone., etc. I believe these experiences have been directly relate to bandwidth I was given at the time I was playing.

I need an expert opinion about the game client requirements.
Hotel networks tend to be cesspits. Usually poorly implemented, poorly maintained, and busy/congested as all crap.

Most of the time there's no segregation between wired and wireless network.

That and the Internet connection being provided, many times, isn't maintained in-house. It's contracted out to a 3rd party and given minimal service time. As such, routing for such connections tends to be horrible at best, and packet loss is a major issue.

The bad part is, there's no real metric for this sort of thing either. It's not like $200/night four-star places are any better than $50/night one stars. Hell, in a couple of the places I've stayed, it's been the exact opposite!

And it may be true that the client only needs 10K to run "properly". But "properly" may mean "really fricking slow, but it runs".

I have never had any trouble getting to mish doors and going anywhere I want using that combo, till now.

How do I get to the Guns level with no vertical movement apart from jump/hurdle?

I did shout for a TP but in the heat of battle the only other team member that had recall friend missed the shout. I stayed by the warehouse doors and sulked!

My paid for Temp Power was disabled boo hoo! Any ideas (apart from a respec) to overcome this bit of the trial?

    Thanks

    Ninja Run isn't disabled.

Run around to the right-side of the courtyard. Jump onto the low building there, then jump to the roof in the back of the facility. From there you can acesss the wall and then the gun towers.

If you have Hurdle slotted and are using NR, you should be able to leap from tower to tower fairly easily.

Have to say i'm starting to warm up to the idea of the gaming laptop too. That asus looks yummy, and i could take it on my travels, bit heavy tho, but only one kilo more than my work laptop. Tho it all depends on if my company would allow me to use the gaming laptop for a work laptop as well, i ain't hauling two around It would be nice with a nice laptop for my usa trips in summer, but then i probably will be out sightseeing and not sitting in hotel gaming

Could buy laptop now and then desktop next year, or vice versa. Oh well in no rush, just need to ponder this for a bit
One other thing. If you're making trips to the US DO NOT take a nice laptop with you if you're depending on it for work. When entering and leaving the country, your laptop is subject to search and seizure by those drooling mouth-breathers at Homeland.

    Does it happen OFTEN? No.

Would I put it past one of them if you show up with a spiffy gaming machine? HELL NO!
  17. Also, did a quick look-over on the Taurus and it's actually fairly close to the system I pieced-and-parted together for you. If you're really not that into building, the Taurus would be the system to look at.
  18. Okay, here's a preliminary stab. Lemme know what you think. You still have LOTS of room for changes and upgrades.

Case: Case is COMPLETELY negotiable on your budget. I just have a preference for this case. They're relatively inexpensive, VERY spacious and lots of room to grow.

Power Supply: While I didn't spec you for SLI I spec'ed you for an SLI-ready PSU just in case. You won't really gain a hell of a lot from SLI in CoH, but other games you play will see a boost.

Motherboard: Decent motherboard. Haven't had problems with any of these thus far. Also, it's set up for true x16x16 SLI if you go the SLI route.

Processor: You may be overclocking. Got you the best of the OC chips available right now.

Memory: Decent, low-latency memory. 16GB. If you're going to go for outrageous overclocks we can discuss higher-clocked memory if necessary.

Video Card: GTX 580. Best nVidia card for your money. The 590 is actually a step down for your purposes. If you want to go SLI, you've got the cash for it. Light factory overclock. If you decide you want to go water cooling though, let me know. EVGA actually makes a factory waterblocked version of this card clocked at 850Mhz.

OS Drive: 128GB SSD. Depending on how MUCH gaming you're going to be doing, a single drive should be fine. If you need more space, we can tack on a second SSD specifically for gaming installs.

Storage Drive: SSDs are great for software installs, but for storage, you still want a nice humongous hard drive. I figure 2TB should do you up nicely. If you're looking to rip your DVD collection to disk though, let me know so we can get you more drives for space.

OS: Win7 Home Premium 64-bit. Need 64-bit for 4+GB memory. Win7 works just fine.

Monitor: 27" as you requested. I've had good luck with Viewsonic monitors. This is a very nice 1920x1080 monitor with 1ms response time (basically almost no monitor lag). Just ignore the on-board speakers. You're not buying it for them. The stand looks like it's delicate and undersized. It's fine.

Optical Drive: Got you a nice Blu-Ray burner with a monster cache on it. If you want to step back to just a Blu-Ray player with DVD burning functions, let me know.

Keyboard: I know you said you were keeping your keyboard. But allow me to suggest one just in case.

Mouse: NOT a big fan of "gaming mice". Too delicate and many of them seem to cause too many problems with USB due to high polling rate of the LED/Laser. Just quoted for a nice simple MS Optical mouse.

All I'd suggest doing is getting yourself another couple 140mm fans for decent air movement in the case, and calling it done.

Price in USD: $2,806.91 (about 17,140.26 SEK) before shipping and before mail-in rebates.
I'd tack 10-15% on as a price buffer if you're buying locally.

    Things I didn't tackle:

    • SLI (Though you're more than set for it if you wish to do so)
    • Water Cooling (The case quoted is built for optional water cooling setups)
    • Overclocking (You're more or less already set for it. You''ve got an OC-ready board and an OC-ready CPU. About all you'd really want to do is toss on a slightly more powerful CPU cooler than the stock version (see water cooling).

As you've noticed, I didn't even come CLOSE to your maximum budget. I PROBABLY could have, but it wouldn't have gained you all that much performance-wise, and I also wanted to leave you room for tweaking the build.

Dustin. You might need to click the tab that says "specifikationer" to see what it contains.

    Dustin Build it yourself
This computer comes in parts, no trouble for me to build it.
I'm just unsure on whats good or not. Cheapest of them all, but has no Operating system with it, so would need that.

Which brings me to a question, whats the diffrence in the diffrent windows 7 versions, home premium, professional, ultimate.

I will also get a new monitor, found a nice 27" one i liked which i will probably buy. If anyone have good tips on monitors i welcome that too. Also, if i get two monitors and get some superwide thing by putting em next to each other, how does that work? I spose i'd need SLI to pull that off.

Thanks in advance for any input

I have my L key bound to /target_enemy_near and while leaping to attack the next wall gun it grabs one completely across the courtyard.
