Quote:Sorry for not being concise enough for you about Stardock's software on your machine.Well, I tried turning off my "Stardock" but that does nothing. Incidentally, "Stardock" is the company, just like Paragon is the company that makes CoH. The Stardock software that I run is Windowblinds, Deskscapes, and CursorFX. Of those programs, the only one that has in the past given me troubles with the game is Windowblinds. And that problem was easily fixed by excluding CoH from being skinned with Windowblinds. It worked that way for years. And the latest version was worked on hand-in-hand with MS to make sure it would work flawlessly with the newest version of Windows.
On a side note, "Stardock worked hand in hand with Microsoft".
CoH is not a product of Microsoft and doesn't use Microsoft's DirectX graphics tools. It uses OpenGL. Assuming that because it doesn't necessarily interfere with basic desktop display functions and DirectX-tied graphics doesn't mean that this is correct and true for OpenGL (a path Microsoft desperately wants to be thought of as "legacy").
As noted, in the past use of various pieces of Stardock software have caused stability issues with CoH and turning it off can relieve the issue in some cases.
Then your registry entries are borked.Quote:I tried to run the game in SafeMode, but ran into a problem. The NVidia drivers won’t load in SafeMode, so no luck running the game in SafeMode. I’m not sure what you mean by tweaking my setting my settings in SafeMode, but I tried to run the game in that mode, to no avail. Without the NVidia drivers the game throws up an error message saying I don’t have a compatible video card and quits.
***ADDENDUM***
On a second read. And from the followup post by Texas Justice it sounds like you were going into WINDOWS safe mode.
This isn't what I meant. I meant use the CoH safemode.
Open the NCSoft Launcher, right-click on the game and select Properties. This window will come up.

Check the checkbox and click OK. Then start the game. This should completely blot previous settings.
From there, re-adjust the settings in-game and go from there.
Then, when you're done, restart the launcher, go back in and uncheck "Launch in Safe Mode" or it'll blot your settings again the next time you run the game.
*SNIP*
Good call on using Test/Beta as a reference.
AFAIK this is a known issue that doesn't have a solution implemented yet.Quote:However, even my Beta version has the quit-freeze problem. -

Part of the lag here is, yes, a large number of people in the zone at once.
Part of it is a large number of people on the server.
But part of this lag is the fact that people are using the League interface.
Either the bandwidth requirements for the League interface are just too huge for the client to handle or it's sending a bunch of info (like buff icon data) that aren't needed. And the large the league gets, the worse it is. Simply breaking into individual teams relieves a good chunk of the lag.
Also, they want 2500+ on simultaneously. They didn't say you had to all be in the same zone. Or even participating in the event.
Log in, find a nice, quiet corner someplace, and park. Or dig into a mish and just stay in there. -
Quote:You'll want the piggs directory. Everything else is relatively small.I finally broke down and ordered a new computer. I remember seeing the answer to this question a long time ago, but couldn't find it again tonight.
Which files do I need to copy over from my old computer to my new one in order to get CoH up and running again?
If you want to save any missions, costumes, etc, you're probably just better off grabbing the whole directory.
- Install the NCSoft launcher.
- Install CoH.
- Once the download begins, stop and exit the launcher
- Copy the original CoH directory into place over the top of the newly installed one.
- Remove any .checksum files.
- Restart the launcher and allow it to do updates and file verification.
- Once that's done you should be able to log into CoH, reset your video settings, and party on.

Went to lay down for about an hour and a half and boom.. It's 11:00!

Just an FYI.
Took part in the Zukunft anniversary event today and piled on a few more levels (and an absolute BUTTLOAD of SOs (from L10????).
After it was over, I dug in on the base. We now have a small base with two telepads and 3 beacons:
- Atlas Park
- Kings Row
- Pocket D

Quote:You still get your standard Epic Power Pools as a controller. But you can unlock the patron pools (which'll then be available during respecs while you stay villain/rogue). You could then switch back to hero and the Patron pool powers are still functional (but if you respec as a hero/vigilante they wouldn't be a choice during the respec). My husband and I have returned to the game after a long absence. Some of his friends returned to their villains and asked us to join them. Most of my bookmarks and the information I collected are obsolete. I am hoping that you all can answer a few questions and help with a request.
My husband has a Fire/Axe/Fire Tank and I have a Fire/Kin Controller. I found the information explaining how to switch sides to a Villain. However, I want to make sure we do our research before we make the move.
I can not find any information concerning the epic pools if you switch sides. I assume a Tank can take the Brutes. If it is allowed of course. Does a Controller get a choice of the Dominator or Mastermind ones? Has anyone had any experience with the Villain epics?
Our chars are equipped with SOs. The architect expansion is completely new to us. I found out yesterday that Stamina is inherent now so I know I have a lot of reading to do. I haven't changed by build so I am not asking for a critique yet. I do not mind doing the research but I have been coming up short trying to find current information. Could someone please post any links that would help me or answer any of my questions.
Thanks!
Best bet for info is Paragon Wiki.
http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Patron_Power_Pools
The second link will tell you what power choices are available in Patron pools for controllers.
Controllers get the Dominator choices for everything save Mace Mastery.
They get a unique set of choices for Mace Mastery (Focused accuracy instead of PFF to avoid being able to double PFF).
Mission Architect: Interesting and fun, but ultimately subject to Sturgeons's law.
Fitness will become Inherent the next time you respec, freeing up whatever power choices you initially took in the old Fitness pool.
Some good things to have:
Mids' Hero Designer: Allows you to tweak and fiddle with your build without ever spending a single inf.
Titan Sentinel: A nice tie in with the Titan City Info Tracker. But the piece of pure genius is the fact that it can actually export a copy of your real-time build from the game itself and let you import it into Mids. -
Quote:hi,
I was doing a hami raid last night with my demon/thermal MM. I was part of the buff team for the lead tank.I was using my single target heal ,and normally it does about 395 points of healing, at one point i checked and it said I was doing 0 points of healing.
both of us was in the "goo",and he was not in full health, I understand healing is surpressed a bit in the "goo" but why so much? I was a lvl shifted 51.
Thank You
Possibly a bug. -
Quote:You have approximately 20 posts across 4 threads at this point.Read it. Did it several times. Did HijackThis and CoH helper. Did the whole song and dance routine. Last time I did it on here, I got no response. Last time I e-mailed customer support with this information, they made me jump through seemingly endless loops, and it wasn't satisfactory. Should I do it all one more time?
None of your threads (and I've looked at them) have any CoH Helper or HijackThis data in them.
If you could provide them here, maybe we can come up with a solution for you. -
Quote:In short, if you have to explain it, you've already failed. And in this instance, the humor isn't helping anything (a'la Golden Girl's wink icons all the time). Mostly due to your lack of segregation as to what is your serious POV and what is your non-serious.The "I'm always right," was humor, not seriousness - hence the picture from "Death Becomes Her."
YOU may think it's "obvious". Unfortunately text is a horrifically bad medium for subtle emotional shading (unless you get EXTREMELY verbose). -
Looks like you're running Stardock.
Stardock can do strange things to your system in regards to graphics (since it's piggybacking on the graphics drivers for some of its effects).
The fact that you've been hand-tweaking the registry probably isn't helping either.
Try disabling Stardock. See if that helps.
Then start in Safe Mode and try tweaking your settings again.
If not, due to all the hand-modding, my next suggestion would be a clean OS install.
Drastic? Yep! But unless you've kept a VERY careful log of what's been changed from what to what and when, you don't have a hope in hell of resetting it to default. -
Thinking it was a bug or maybe someone set one of the TF settings wrong (like only at powers).

Quote:If you set up the launcher to auto-launch CoH, it'll download the updates before it lets you in to play. When downloading the new launcher it suggested to allow it to run in the background so updates could be obtained. I allowed it but I'm now wondering if this is causing the increased crashes and slowing of the computer when playing the game. I want to turn it off but I'm worried about how I will get the updates. Will they download when I click on the CoH button to start the game?
Thanks for any and all help. -

That's fine. There's people out there who think that the moon landing was faked too. And flat-earthers. And creationists.
You're always entitled to be wrong about something.
The fact is, the metric is busted. And badly. You currently have the trials set up in a way that marginalizes several ATs and in some cases makes certain power combinations completely and utterly useless. Not less useful or marginally useful. USELESS.
And I'm sorry, but running the trial endlessly as a fifth wheel to get the Incarnate powers that FINALLY let you contribute to to a trial smacks of the leeching you hold in such contempt. -
Quote:You're wrong. If someone comes in and door-sits the trial, it's up to their team or league captains TO BOOT THEM FROM THE TRIAL.It's a necessity. These aren't your run of the mill TF's where you can get by just "walking through it."
Basic Premise:
If you're not going to participate then you won't get rewarded.
Is it perfect right now? No. Should you be consistently getting Rares and Very Rare tables?
NO
If it's okay with these people to leave such leeches in the trial, c'est la vie. That's the leaders' decision.
And nobody's asking for rares and very rares all the time. But some people aren't getting ANY. EVER. After running dozens (or in some cases HUNDREDS).
And the only options? Wait weeks/months to build up an appropriate amount of Empyrean merits or pay ruinous (for most people) inf tributes.
Well gee! Thanks! Nice to see that players are penalized because the system itself is borked. -
You're kidding right? It's not the trope because it's too similar to the trope?
No. No we don't. It's a common meme. Simply because there are other examples of the meme expressed elsewhere and earlier doesn't mean there was direct copying done.Quote:But I think we need the artist to step forward on this one. -

Quote:No. Unless you're trying to run multiple clients simultaneously and play them all.Right now I am at 7M down and 512K up, the next tier is 15M down and 768K up, and its almost $10 more a month. My question is playing COx would it be worth it?
Honestly, a waste of money but hey... Some people put spinners on their oversized 30-something inch tires too.Quote:I also have a killer Nic installed.
For general game PERFORMANCE? No.Quote:as the 3rd gen of SSD are coming out theyare starting to be some good deals on 2nd Gen.
would that make a big difference?
Thank You
For game startup? Yes.
For the portions of zone loading that are dependent on disk I/O? Yes.
Warning: Stay away from the OCZ Vertex (and Vertex2) and Agility (and Agility 2) drives for not.
They did a stealth "upgrade" of their flash memory in these lines (smaller manufacturing process) without refreshing their model numbers or anything.
It reduced the capacity of the drives and performance of the drives took a nosedive as well. -
Quote:Probably because Stardock is using some of the of the OGL or DirectX rendering pipelines for some of it's desktop effects.-raises eyebrow- So disabling that seems to work? No crashing so far.
Any idea as to why it conflicts with the game?
So when CoH tries to hit a register that's already in use *WHAM!*. -
Quote:Do you have the old, original PhysX drivers installed? If not, that card's doing nothing save sucking down power.1. why isnt CoX reconizing my PhysX card (stand alone card)? i going into options/graphics and i get an N/A for PhysX and cant turn it on.
2. im running 2-7600gt sli cards on my pc and the video gets all 'jumbley' and the game freezes, sometimes shuts down on me. currently running on 2 gigs of ram with graphics at the most minimal possible setting. didnt have this problem a year ago. is my stuff just old and needing an upgrade or is it something else?
Since nVidia bought AGEIA a few years back, they changed things. nVidia PhysX isn't quite the same thing as the old PhysX model. And if you don't have the old PhysX drivers installed (and betting the nVidia drivers wipe references from the AGEIA stuff) CoH won't detect it.
And yes, you probably wouldn't have had this problem a year ago. There have been numerous upgrades since then and the graphical engine is a bit heavier than it used to be. Also, if you're on older video card drivers, you may run into problems as well.
Take a look in the "asking for help" link in my sig. Give us the CoH Helper and HijackThis logs. And your cards can take the current 270.61 series drivers. These are what you should be on.
Now SLI isn't going to help you a whole hell of a lot unfortunately. The way the game is coded, it'll help bring up your minimum FPS a little bit, but won't really add to your maximum FPS. -
Noticed that you're running Stardock. IIRC there have been some issues in the past on systems running this software.

along with rope lights on the decking so i can navigate at night.
