1: Liquid cooler is a waste of cash.
2: The 950 is essentially an outdated processor.
3: 1.2kW PSU is overkill. WAY overkill.
4: The x58 is designed for triple-channel memory configs. Legit triple configs are 3, 4.5, 6, 7.5, 9, 12 GB of RAM.
Recommend taking the money you don't waste and putting it into better components.
This link contains everything but your case. In the end you come out with a faster processor, faster GPU, appropriate memory config. All for about 150 less (which'll partly be taken by shipping).
Essentially:
i7 2600K (So you can do some light overclocking with the default cooler if the mood takes you.)
8GB of RAM (Plenty to start, and it's 2 4GB modules, so you can add 8GB more at a later date if you want. Picked low-latency "gaming" memory. Some money can be saved if you take the standard latency stuff. Have had VERY good luck with G.Skill modules. Every non-server unit I've built in the last 3 years has sported G.Skill.)
z68 Motherboard (This board is a combination of some of the better features of the H67 and P67 SandyBridge boards). I've actually gotten hands on one already and it works quite nicely.
SSD for OS disk and 2TB HD for storage (Will give you super-speedy OS loads and game/zone loads while still leaving tons of space for storing your electronic "junk".)
GTX 580 (Still the fastest single-GPU solution available.)
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
BluRay burner with an 8MB cache as opposed to the 4MB cache. (Larger cache essentially means less chance of burning coasters with expensive media.)
800W CoolerMaster (Quiet PSU with 80Plus Gold Certification, Modular for less cable clutter)
Is this build "over the top"?
HELL YEAH!
ESPECIALLY for CoH. But this system should rock out on just about any game you throw at it for the next year or two (and still be a damn impressive system for several years after that).
Also to "condense your links".
- Type out the text you want to turn into a link first.

Quote:Damn skippy. I'd actually use it.I think a lot of people would be happier with that than what Unstoppable currently does. Hell, if the Unstoppable crash were reduced to 99% (rather than 100%), just enough to give players some assurance that they could keep their toggles up, the power would have vastly more appeal.

Because you should be pinching those pennies until Abe stops screaming again!

Quote:I'd be more inclined to 3-slot Aegis. This way he gets the resist bump and a nice F/C defense bump.3 or 4 slotting those powers and putting in a reactive armor would help on that front.
No problem.Quote:He's definately closer to soft-cap than I thought, thanks for the mids shot.
Brain fart again on my part. Was thinking Crushing Impact.Quote:As to multi-strike, it does have defense buff's at around the five slot mark and I tend to five slot AoE powers if not 6 slotting them as AoE powers generally do more 'dps' given that they hit multiple targets at once thereby getting more 'bang for my buck' so to speak.
And 5-6 slots for .94% typed defense is a waste.
No. I said that if you have to have 5 full sets of KinCombats and 5 full sets of Reactive, you weren't making appropriate use of slots for defense in Invincibility, Tough Hide, Combat Jumping and Weave.Quote:As to what you mean by kinetic combat not working with natural bonuses, I'm not sure what you mean.
Maybe 5 full sets of Reactive. But 20 pieces of KinCombats? No. -
-
Quote:That looks horrible. >< No mire? No unchain essence? No quasar? No dark extraction? Defense is not worth that many sacrifices.
The build I'm working my way into as my funds allow is going to land me with 25.5% s/l defense, 28.9% melee defense, a crap load of recharge and no missed essential powers. With capped resistance you shouldn't really even NEED to soft cap your s/l defense without vengeance. If you're playing your warshade right, you have the difficulty on at least +2x8 which means that someone else who isn't a warshade is going to die and you can hit vengeance.

Like I said, I never promised the build would be playable. It was just a mental exercise.
So, yes, I'm mental, and *looks at gut* in desperate need of exercise. -

Quote:NO. NO! NO! HELL *BLEEP!* NO!There wouldn't be any such problems, if they took a little effort to do it right and did an actual merger rather than move-and-delete.
1) Character names: Duplicated character names would end up, based on creation date (or random chance, if date isn't kept track of internally, renamed Character Name I and Character Name II. Each character would be given an optional rename token for if they don't like this.
Do you even know how groups in a coalition are hooked to one another "under the hood"?Quote:2) Supergroups: Same as above for names. No reason why bases or Coalitions would be affected at all.
In other words you break SG with your "back in the queue" idea.Quote:3) No automatic deletion/scattering of characters - all characters would be moved to the merged. If that causes slot overflow, no new characters can be made by that player on the newly merged server until they delete enough to bring them down to under their proper number of max slots (bought/free bonus slots from both old servers would, of course, be transferred over to the merged server; if that brings them over 36 slots, those excess slots would go back into the queue for placement elsewhere). Optional transfer tokens tied to the merged server (ie, can't be used on characters elsewhere) equal to their current overflow would be given.
Sorry. Bad idea is really bad. -
BITE
YOUR
TONGUE!
No. Seriously. Bite it! HARD!
No. No it wouldn't. It'd alienate people who'd lost names on toons, supergroups, etc. It'd also send a lousy message to players who've been told thus far that the game is quite population-stable (and possibly even growing) and possibly bring about a wave of account closures.Quote:I know a lot of people would scream 'doooom' but I think it would help get more people involved.
Just...no. -
Quote:He doesn't have rage, therefore he doesn't get the base acc. bonus from rage. I don't think that he'll have any problems with accuracy what-so-ever with a 24% boost. Invul suffers the most from durability issues, invincibility buff's his to-hit's so it should be a non-issue. (Which I'm guessing is what you meant...)
- Rage is +ToHit. I've edited my brain-fart about it out of my original post.
- 3/4th of that +Acc goes away at level 46.
- Invuln does NOT suffer from durability issues if built properly. Sure, it's non-S/L resists aren't great. But the fact that you can cap yourself to all typed defenses but Psi more than makes up for that.
-
Quote:His defense numbers?I think your defense numbers are nowhere near high enough for this invul build to be a tanker build. Multi-strike instead of your obliterations and posi-blasts would be a start to fix that, but if you're trying to turn invul into a tank set it's damn expensive.
He's in the mid 50's for S/L. That's a perfectly acceptable buffer for debuffs.
His E/N is in the 40's. While not soft-cap, isn't bad at all.
His F/C could use a bit of work but still is very not-bad.
Here's his current numbers with 1 mob in range:

Multi-Strikes aren't going to fix jack squat. They'll remove his defense and only sub in recharge.
If you had to use all five, you weren't making good use of your native defense powers.Quote:Agreed on PvP IO's =P
To be fair, I've never slotted an invul/fire tank but my main is an invul/energy. I think I used something like 5 kinetic combat sets, 2 multi-strike sets, and 5 reactive armor sets to get to soft cap. I don't have mids in front of me, but you CAN get to soft-cap on invul defenses with one mob nearby. If you want to farm, that's probably what you'll need unless you don't mind doing it three minutes at a time. ^_-
Five-slotting his auto-power resists is an absolute waste. The gain in resistance is negligible, there's no benefit to the additional recharge or endurance reduction since they don't cost endurance. And the bonus to F/C isn't enough to worry about (remember, the 5th slot is a weird typed/positional inversion grants 1.25 AOE and only .625 F/C). Those slots are far more valuable used elsewhere.Quote:I'd also think about 4 or 5 slotting all your inherents for reactive armors, but that's just me. -
The main problem I see is that your base accuracy sucks.
Yes, you've got a 24% boost from set bonuses, but most of that at level 50.
Anything lower than 47 and your base accuracy lands you in the toilet. Yes, you've got Invincibility bumping your ToHit, but still. Big fan of High +ToHit AND High Acc here.
Also, you may want to look at shoring up your non-S/L resists just a little. They're not terrible, but they could be a bit higher. Otherwise any of those damages types getting through your defenses will wreck you. -
-
Quote:Kangstor, I'll have to look at your build later. I'm at work right now and don't have access to mids.
Call me Darth Kaison if you want, because I just don't believe it.
I do not believe you can come up with a tri-form build that softcaps one type or position and still has permanent eclipse.
I would love to be proven wrong.
Oh yes.

Had one built earlier today that was about as ghetto as this one.
But here you go for a quick one-off.
As you can see, it's defense capped with Stealth. So it's going to lose a chunk once it attacks.
HOWEVER, it's still quite over PermaHasten cap (therefore it's PermaEclipse), so I could back down on the recharge a bit and boost defense elsewhere.
ATTENTION: REMEMBER I NEVER CLAIMED THIS BUILD WAS PLAYABLE!

Quote:"Only Sith deal in absolutes."You're not going to softcap a warshade to even one type/position and keep the recharge required for a permanent eclipse, let alone all types or positions. It's just not possible.
Actually not QUITE correct.
It CAN be done. It's just that the build is NOT what I'd call "pretty" or even "useful". -
Quote:We've had moves towards thin clients several times in the last 30-odd years. It only lasts so long before people get fed up with how limited they are.Presently, the pendulum is moment away from thick towards thin. How far and how long the momentum will continue is up for grabs. My money is on thin clients...for the next 5 years so.
Yes, they're getting less limited, but they're still limited by their very nature.
Sooner or later someone ALWAYS wants/needs a fat client. -
Quote:Pfft. Look up the 8086 and the 8088.I want all you youngsters to consider that in sixteen short years, we've seen a 2000 fold increase in the size of your average hard drive. (not to mention the speed of ram and cpu's).
Patching DOS to use a hard drive.
10MB full-heigh hard drives. MFM?
Hardcards?
8" Floppy drives?
Full-width dot matrix printers.
Gold monochrome screens (only pansies had greenscreens).
GET OFF MY SIM-LAWN! -

Quote:Presence: No. You're a tank and have no need of additional, inferior taunts. So I made my first (super strength, invulnerability) Tank and was curious about two power sets and whether I should or should not invest in them.
Presence and Fighting? Any thoughts?
Fighting: Yes. Tough won't do a heck of a lot for you but Weave is one of those "you REALLY want this power" choices. You could probably soft-cap at least one set of types without it, but Weave is just a MUCH neater package on the quest to completely soft-cap everything. -
