Quote:Now I have this disturbing (in a good way) image in my head of Angelina Jolie straddling the hammer while Nicholas Cages gets crushed beneath the Voluminous Volstagg.

Quote:Thanks for your help. Talks with Nvidida seem to be going in circles. Big surprise. So, either tomorrow or Tuesday, after teh long weekend i'm going to tak this beautiful damn thing back and see about another.
I heard that the GTX460 isn't too bad and (so far) seems to be the least likely to smack me in the face with more problems.
Make sure to uninstall your drivers before you pull the card.
Also, when you install the new card, take the option for "Clean" install.
This way if there's any cruft in the registry, the installer will blast it. -

Okay there's two things that make IOs slightly better than HOs in some cases.
HOs have better raw aspect improvement than dual-aspect IOs (say an Acc/Dam HO vs a L50 Acc/Dam IO, the HO wins in terms of better stat boosting).
However, there are a couple other things.
Read up on IOs.
Then read up on Set Bonuses.
Also, you'll see this term now and again too, Frankenslotting.
Here's a few helpful links to get you started on "everything".
Paragonwiki: Basically if you want to know about something in CoH, it's on Paragonwiki. Don't dink around with the old Wikia site. It's throwing malware infested ads.
Mid's Hero Designer: This program allows you to play around with various builds and loadouts on a toon without having to spend any inf in-game to look at how it performs. If you're serious about getting the most out of your build for your inf, GET THIS PROGRAM. NO ARGUMENTS!
There's also Sucker Punch's online build planner there as well, but it's a little out of date.
Titan Sentinel: A program that ties into the Titan network's City Info Terminal project (so you can see your stats outside of the game on their CIT site). That in and of itself is cool, but the MUST HAVE feature is the ability to have it dump the live build of your character in-game and give you the ability to import it into Mid's.
This lets you see what you've got, the real numbers for it, and let's you progress from there. -

Quote:It's a little. Some of the "moderately" desirable IOs go for more than that and some of the really valuable ones go for as much as 10x that. Heck, for one or two specific IOs, they go for 100x that or more. Also, if anyone can answer a question: I have 31 million Inf on just one toon from back then, as influence was uhh..not used for anything. Is that a little or a lot nowadays?
Luckily, with a bit of patience, you can make stupid amounts of Inf on the market without spending ALL your time in WW/BM. -
Quote:Well Vir, Londo, and G'kar all asked something of Morden. Only Vir was happy with the final outcome.Be careful what you ask for. For it can be delivered, and always has a price.

I'd to have the ability to cut off Lord Recluse's head and stick it on a pike as a warning to the next ten generations that some favors come with too high a price. I would look up into his lifeless eyes and wave like this.

Can you and your associates arrange that for me, Ms. Bianco? -

Quote:As I spec'ed him with an SSD already for his system/CoH Game drive, there's really no point in getting a 20GB SLC drive just to do this.Something that Hyper didn't point out with the Z68 chipset is Intel's new "use your SSD to automatically cache files from your main drive". Whether this would be a better configuration than having the SSD be your OS and current playing games drive I don't know.

Exactly. You're starting with a sample size of one (1). A game that, admittedly doesn't have the same longevity, genre, or game structure that CoH does. And you're trying to apply your assumptions about it to CoH.
Simply because it has been characterized as a "success" for F2P. -

Quote:I've had no problems with Newegg. I've had a couple cases where I've had to process returns. Hassle free. Customer service is fineI've dealt with Tigerdirect before through buying a power supply but never had any dealings with Newegg. How are they for customer service, shipping, etc?
The reason the K class processors are popular is because they have their multiplier setting unlocked. This means you can overclock the processor in smaller increments and you don't alter the speed of any other components on the board (this was usually what caused problems in overclocking. The CPU might handle it, but the memory or the various bridge chips, etc might not like that speed bump.Quote:The reason I hadn't necessarily planned on overclocking was because I have had literally no experience with that before and while I'm sure there are some great resources out there on how to do it, it wasn't something I thought was absolutely necessary. Although the more I think about it, the more I may want to try my hand at it when I get the parts. -

While I'm not a Pinnacle regular, welcome back to The City.
Now step up. There's bad guys wanting for a butt-thumping. -
Also you can speed up the process considerably by killing the launcher once the initial install portion is over and it's begun downloading.
Kill the launcher and the download.
Copy the contents of your main CoH folder into the newly created test folder.
Delete any .checksum files.
Restart the the launcher for Test. Allow it to patch what's there.
This way you wind up with a patch that takes minutes instead of an install that takes hours. -

CoH Helper and HijackThis logs pls.
There's also the possibility that your connection has gone bad for some reason or there's a bug in chat following maintenance.
Also, try verifying your files. Just in case one is corrupted. -
Quote:Because some people are stupid, impatient, greedy, and think that if they badger enough for it, that it'll happen and the world will align itself to their wishes. Why are people suggestion this anew every 1-2 weeks?
It has been discussed to death on these forums. And the reasons why this is a bad idea have been legion. Please use the search function next time :S
I have lots of fun laughing at said personages.

Sorry but I'm in the "Just don't do it" camp.
Unless you've restricted said F2P accounts in exactly the same way you have Trial accounts, you open the door to griefers and goldspammers.
The thought of that is enough to make me want to drive down to the NCSoft hosting facility and reenact the Blues Brothers mall chase through their server farm area. -

Quote:If the stock cooler keeps the CPU well within the bounds of it's thermal guidelines (and it does), then making it cooler simply to make it cooler achieves nothing. Not even extending the service life of the part.I am just saying its not a "waste" just because you are not pushing it to the limit. It will keep his stock CPU cooler. It is a good cooler that stays out of the way.
Since the liquid cooler costs extra money and, due to usage patterns, isn't providing any actual benefit, I define this as "waste". Of time, money, and hardware. Not to mention the extra power the cooler pulls over a stock HSF setup. -
Quote:As they're not likely to be doing any overclocking, thus won't be exceeding spec thermals, yeah, the liquid cooler is a waste of money.I am going to disagree with Hyper on the Hydro cooler. I wouldn't just call it a waste of cash... it will keep even a stock processor cooler than the generic cooler that may come with your processor. The hydro series cooler also places the vast majority of the weight on the case and especially for a first build that is much more comforting than a brick hanging off your mobo. Many large after market coolers block taller RAM sticks from being used because the fancy heat spreads won't fit under the cooler, the hydro series in my experience has been a great product. Things to consider though the mounting to the CPU could be confusing so read and understand before installing... also the recommended direction for the fans pull air into the case not exhaust.
But with some minor tweaking you can get Hyper rig under 2k... I would suggest some thing along his build.
Plus, with the 2600K, even on default cooler, mild overclocks fail to bring it beyond thermal specs. -
Quote:If there was a problem with the business it seems highly unlikely the powers that be at NCSoft would have invested so much in unifying the transatlantic communities.
Rather they would have done something like migrate EU accounts to NA servers and reduce their hardware costs by closing the five EU servers down.
They didn't do that. They invested quite heavily and made it happen. That tells me all I need to know about the health of the game.
