  1. Okay, I think the e-mail of inf costs a few inf.

I've tried sending the entirety of a character's inf stores before and had it tell me I don't have enough inf.

But when I send like 100 inf less than total, I wind up with less than 100 inf.

Yeah... take a few tablets and calm down.

Basically, if I could, I'd have the people doing this work exclusively in a tablet for a month... and then say how much they want the PC, keyboards, etc. to go away. Tablets have their place, and they're an interesting form factor, yes. But that place is *alongside* a PC. It's certainly not "replacing" it.

Yeah. You know what these tablet-crazy tech writers use to put their articles together? A PC!

Pardon me if this seems rude, but your boss is a twit.

Try using touchscreens for extended periods of time, especially in word-processing-heavy positions. Compared to a keyboard, they SUCK.

There's no tactile response from them. There's also no give on the touchscreen either. This means you can never be sure what you're typing and you're going to develop RSI issues quite rapidly. Don't believe me? Tap a finger on your desk for 30 minutes. Continuously. Then tell me how your finger feels.

Now I'm not saying tablets and the like won't have their place, especially in the gaming industry. Sure, like everything else, they'll develop their own niche.

Various technologies have been portrayed as "PC Killers" over the last 30-40 years. You know what?

  4. One thing I'd like to see. I'd like to see the mez protection brought by Dwarf actually clear mez timers. This way if I'm held as a human or nova, I could double-shift and not still be held.

Not sure how that'd affect balance. But it'd be nice during really nasty, chunky fights to be able to toggle human, hit my double heal/+HP, then swap back without having to worry that my human form is going to have an unexpired Hold take over.
  5. Emberly hit it on the head.

    Welcome to the game!

Also, here's a good bunch of links to get you started.

Paragonwiki: If you want to know about something in the game, it's here. Period. THE reference for the game.

Mid's Hero Designer: An absolutely ROCKIN' tool for planning out builds ahead of time. Play around as much as you want and never waste inf. The standard format for sharing builds on the boards.

Titan Sentinel: A nice little tool for tying into the Titan City Info Terminal project at http://cit.cohtitan.com. But the MUST HAVE feature of this program is that it allows you to actually export your LIVE build from the game into Mids. Even if you don't use CIT, this is more than enough reason to create an account and download this program.

Vidiot Maps: A nifty map overlay that's critical for badge hunters. Direct link to the Sourceforge Page.

    No. Actually it's not weird.

You're running the 32-bit version of Vista.

So take the amount of memory you have on your video card and lop it off from system memory. Your 4GB just became 3GB, max.

Win7 and Vista both prefer to use between 1.5 and 2GB of RAM for the OS (with Vista having slightly lower requirements).

    3-2=1GB.

The CoH client in normal operation at high resolutions can run up above 1GB of memory and can spike as high as 1.5GB before destabilizing. And if you're swapping heavily, chances are that it'll destabilize faster.

I hate to say it, but unless you have a device that simply doesn't have 64-bit support, you have no business running 32-bit versions of Windows anymore.

Granted, 64-bit Windows has higher memory requirements than 32-bit, but you're gaining back that entire 1GB that's being shadowed for your video card.
  7. Well you have my sig.

Essentially what I've done is used TinyURL (though you could use any URL shortening service) to shrink the URLs and and image locations down.

Second, I've put the text in images. While, technically it's bloated the amount of bandwidth the text requires (each of the images in my sig is 5-7K apiece, 45K of text would be monstrous), the images are really quite small and load rapidly.

I could probably shrink them down to about half to 1/4 of their current size, retain legible text and cut the bandwidth even more.

Granted, I probably should have THAT many images in my sig. But, as I said, they're small, rapid loading, and my service provider keeps my site up pretty much for 4 9's. In the overall scheme of things, the formatting of the sig conveys lots of data, doesn't really impact the reader's surfing speed, and actually fits within the tiny sig space allowed to us.

  9. Reset to something CoH-related.

  10. Okay. Saw the midnight showing.

It wasn't bad. And it's nowhere NEAR a 20-something percent on Rotten Tomatoes bad.

No, it's NOT "The Dark Knight Returns".
But, as far as being a decent superhero flick, it's fine, though it's playing a little on the Dangerously Genre Savvy side.

Visually, the film still has the "Hey look! CGI BACKGROUND!" compositing problem. But most of the time there's enough action going on that it distracts the eye away from it. Most egregious were the Oa shots.

As for acting, it was okay. As I've said, not DKR, but hey. Reynolds needs some acting lessons though. He's like Keanu Reeves, except his "thing" is "Smug Snarker" instead of "old stoneface".

The story itself could have used a little tightening here and there and the first fight scene with Hector Hammond could have been pruned a LOT. But it conveyed just about everything it needed to. Both for hardcore GL'ers and for people who've been dragged into the movie by the aforementioned.

Was it worth $10? Well, I dunno. Had a raincheck from Thor that I used. Still, had that not worked (some shows don't accept rainchecks opening weekend), I still would have paid for the ticket, even knowing what I know now.

The computer is an Asus G50vt-X1 BestBuy version.
The dead CPU was an Intel Core 2 duo P8400 (dead)
The new CPU is an Intel Core 2 duo P8600

The computer came with an overclock feature, just unsure if its safe to use with the new CPU. Any advice would be welcomed.
On a desktop, I'd say yes.

On a notebook, I'd say no.

You can try if you want, but get some software to monitor CPU temps. Burning out your new notebook would REALLY suck.

    Sucks to be you!

I don't think I've found anything that affects the drop rate in any way other than "bump the multiplier difficulty so there are more enemies to kill", thus giving you more chances.

Other than that, random means random.

Want your own hard-light hologram "Schwartz" ring eh?
  19. Well, I'm going to go see it. I'm an old-school comic book nerd and GL's trailers haven't been so horrible that it doesn't get an automatic "You will buy ticket NOW".

    What I'm expecting.

Due to the basic color palette of the movie (black and green) and the fact that we're going to have a lot of heavy-duty CGI, plus the fact that this film is also debuting in 3D), we're going to see a rather underlit film.

This is a Ryan Reynolds film. So snarky will be the watchword for humor in the film.

It's an origin story. But they're also trying to impart portions of the overall current mythos. So expect it to be a mash-up that doesn't really conform to either the canon origin story OR the mythos particularly well.

Also, as the speed of plot varies wildly between comics and movies, I expect the film to be rushing over certain points which don't push the film forward (but are important for GL back-story) and plodding through things that don't mean much to the overall GL story, but push the movie forward.

In short, it's probably going to be a mess of a film. But I go in with both eyes open on this.

In the herostats, the stay together team always get more overall drops.

If by "proximity" you mean on the same map, yes.

As to your observations in Herostats, I'd say what you're seeing is an anomaly.

  24. I'd like to see something in line with one of the Gravity hold/immobs as a large PBAoE Judgement. It wouldn't necessarily hold/immob, but they'd rise up in the air for a sec, take a metric ***-ton of damage, and then drop.
