You're laboring under the misapprehension that people ARE asking for this. They're NOT. Some of this stuff can be completed in a few days by relentless grinding of the trials. Great, fine and wonderful for those that want to do it that way.

But those that don't wish to grind trials, or are simply unable/unwilling to play them (for whatever reason) are being given a alternate system that kicks up the time necessary to generate similar rewards by an order of magnitude or more.

It's meant to last a good duration giving us something to work toward. I see a lot of people saying it'll take years to slot their character. What a load of crap, I'm sorry to say that, but it's true.
Do the math from Bill's original post. See how long and expensive it'd be to unlock each of the 4 tiers simply by relying on random shard drops.

Then tell me it's a load of crap.

    Quote:
Bill, I mentioned in another thread I had my Dominator who has never touched a trial and yet I have my 4 slots unlocked and slotted with Incarnate Abilities in 3 of them. I've been building up salvage since the release of Issue 19 back in November last year, it's now been almost 7 months since you could earn shards. So I've been stock piling them since then even after I slotted my T4 Alpha. I've been stock piling Notice of the Wells. At the time I couldn't use them, but now I can. You can break them down into 40 threads each. I have 22 of them saved, do the math it adds up pretty fast
And how much Inf did you burn in the shard-to-thread and thread-to-exp conversion? Is it realistic to tell someone to save up for 7+ months, then spend a few hundred million?

    Quote:
And honestly how much faster do you expect the solo path to be? Do you expect to run a mission, and get 4-6 astrals and a component at the end of each mission? Or 1 astral and 1 thread at the end of each mission? Do you honestly think a solo path will be as quick as running the trials? What would the speed of the solo path have to be to make you satisfied?
What'd be nice would be a series of missions (like Tips) that'd generate an Astral or two every day you ran the set of missions, then would generate an Empyrean at the end of an arc with an "alignment mission" type finishing mission. That and random thread drops here and there. Or better yet, if the missions are multi-objective, thread drops for completing the objectives.

It'd be SLOWER than relentlessly grinding trials, but not "a few days vs 7-12 months" slower.

You obviously aren't reading so good.

The people doing it in days are those GRINDING TRIALS.

Not everyone wants or is able to GRIND TRIALS.

Those NOT GRINDING TRIALS are given an arbitrary system that ramps up the time necessary to generate the same results from days or weeks to months or years.

And I'm not even going to do the "well you aren't the intended player" and "don't play them then" and "You don't NEED them" arguments the favor of calling them "disingenuous". They're outright, blindly, boneheadedly missing the entire blithering point.

Statistically speaking, it's highly likely it was zero. As long as we're building straw men to apply to dumb decisions such as, "I'm never going to run a trial or task force!", then keep running missions until you get two or three purple recipes, then calculate how long it will take someone, supposing they never want to use the market, to get a complete set for a power. Don't forget that due to the nature of random drops, getting that last specific purple is going to be a mother of a wait.

What's that? It would take years? Wow, that's outRAGEous! What were the devs thinking? Obviously, they want us all to do nothing but sit around playing with the market all day! Or maybe running "tests" and making unreasonable demands based on the idiotic assumption that one will literally never team up is a meaningless waste of time--indeed, the height of arrogance for demanding stuff based on something nobody does in reality, a play style you insist on for the singular purpose of pushing an agenda and making things easier.

Thanks for trying, though. Good luck with your next strawman I'm sure you're working on as I type.
Crawled out from under the wrong bridge this morning eh?

What you're overlooking is the fact that the trials (which not everyone can participate in due to time constraints, or the fact that they're viewed as "not fun", or that their computers simply aren't capable of dealing with the problems that the League system causes, inducing crashes) are GUARANTEED rewards. "Do A and you WILL get B".

Shard drops are "If you do A, maybe you'll get B, which, after you grind enough of them, can be converted to C, which, after you grind enough of them, can be converted to D, which, after you accumulate enough, can be converted to the desired E"

Simply because YOU happen to fall into the demographic best suited for grinding out incarnate rewards doesn't give you the right to be a richard to those who aren't Tony. So please, try to keep it tucked back a bit.

If you want x, you must do y.
You're right. You aren't seeing the problem here.

Nobody is saying they want rewards "quickly". What they're saying is they want a reward path that doesn't involve standing around 60+% of the time doing NOTHING simply to grind raids over and over and over again.

Right now the difference in speed between people who mish regularly is those who raid their brains out is not "slow vs fast". It's not even "glacial vs fast". It's "Brownian motion has stopped vs moderate". We're talking several days (if you raid straight through a session) vs several weeks (if you limit your raiding to one of each per day) vs months/years by converting shards.

And at every turn, we're being bashed in the face with alternate currencies. Why? Because they don't want someone to have all of the rewards on Day 1? Whoops! They have them on Day 2!

    That's it, end of story.
But it isn't. I'm glad you like it.

    Quote:
But that doesn't change the fact that in the here and now, you're stuck with the y we have. This has always been true. No matter how you slice it, no matter how you dice it, always. Either do y, or wait until they make it easier.
Again, you're missing the point. This isn't a "we want everything NAO!" rant. The thing is, if people just shut up about this, and stop providing negative feedback on the devs choices, sooner or later someone is going to convince themselves that there is no problem. This is about being the squeaky wheel that gets the oil. If you don't ASK, you don't GET.

    Quote:
Want to get to level 50? You have to first get to level 49. You can do it quickly via lots of teaming, or you can do it slowly via soloing, taking time to read all of the mission text, role-playing and doing various other non-experience-gaining activities. There's no way around it. At some point, you're going to have to buckle down, go out there, and defeat some enemies. You can't get to level 50 just by exploration badge experience. You can't get there by dancing in Pocket D. It's going to require some time and effort on your part.
Yes, but in the pre-50 portion of the game, you have lots and lots of choices as to which enemies you're going to bash, and which storylines you're going to work through. Post-50, your choices have narrowed down to three raids and no mission arcs.

    Quote:
That's what I feel like when people say stuff that boils down to, "This is so unfair! I'll never be able to get all of this incarnate stuff!" First of all, you're not supposed to. Do you really need every single aura, every single emote, every single costume piece, every single everything?
Considering we have people with 1000+ badges, there are hundreds of costume pieces, 95% which people who've never payed for a booster would have STILL have access to

    Quote:
Second of all, I've said it before and I'll say it again, these are long-term rewards.
Nobody's asking for the stuff "today". At least nobody who is arguing rationally. They merely want a reduction in the disparity of "days" vs "years".

As to the rest of your argument and your comparison to real life. Some people are here to play a game. Not have a second job.

If you're not interested in the Trials, then you don't really need any of the Incarnate powers, as they're designed mostly for the Trials - it's a self-contained mini-game, like the market, or bagdes, or PvP.
You don't "need" to level beyond L1 to play the game either. You can go into your settings in the tutorial and shut off XP earnings. XP earning in this game is entirely optional as well.

If they want to bring more trials, great. But I'd like other incarnate content out there for people who have better things to do than sit around for an hour with their thumb up their *** while the league captain gets enough players together to play a 30 minute trial.

Right now, the only solo content for Incarnates (which is about personal progression) is the Alpha unlock.

The Tin Mage and Apex have been reworked so that they award threads or Astrals.

And the conversion rate of Shards to threads is dreadfully slow (though no longer as punitive as it once was).

The fact that a game of the breadth that CoH has is now funneled down into a single raiding path for reasonably paced progression is just shameful, and I hope the devs attempt to work on SOMETHING that'll allow reasonable progression times for solo or single team players.

No. Because a card's performance in 3DMark or Heaven bear little relation to ACTUAL game performance in CoH, Crysis2, F.E.A.R. 3, etc. What's more, since those benchmarks are static, they can be gamed quite easily via driver and display controller tweaks. Playing the same graphics engine in a game, using the same "map", same settings, etc would yield different results. Simply because it isn't running the prepackaged demo.

Not sure of who your provider is, but if you plan on using your phone for mobile internet (and don't want to pay the premium "wireless hotspot" fee), I'd recommend EasyTether.

Plug your phone into your computer, it sets up as an Ethernet connection and voila! Free version doesn't work on https sites or for gaming. But the $10 paid version does.
  10. Sorry, can't find it on the Android market.
And the page for it seems to show it as iPhone/iPad only.

What you're seeing at higher resolutions is more a function of the greater memory space. Pick up a pair of 580's with 3GB of memory and the performance picture is a bit different.

Note: In actual games. I honestly don't give a damn what "Benchmark X" tells me. Since I don't play benchmarks.
  12. Thanks Je Saist.

As much as I kid you about your unholy affinity for AMD/ATI you're doing damn fine work for the Linux crowd looking to get their cape fix on.

Especially as your average PVPer tends to want to just kit out his character as quickly as possible. (Even though they'd play for free...they'd be hitting up the cohstore like maniacs.)

Not to put too fine a point on it but:

    Any questions?

    I'm one of them. So...

To be sure, I'm not lapping this up though. I'm very cautious about this. My gut is telling me that this is a Bad Thing™ (considering the size of my gut, it's a miracle I can hear anything above the roar). But I like the game and I like the devs. They've, mostly, done a bang-up job with the game. So I'm inclined to give them a chance to change my mind (such as there is of it).

Okay. Coming to the thread late, but this got a belly laugh from me.

You can tell someone that, somewhere, a game is going Free To Play. And it's all right. It's all "part of the plan."

But then you tell them that City of Heroes is going Free To Play. And suddenly everyone loses their mind!

  22. Okay, it's possible that it isn't working due to you having bought something within the 24-hour cutoff period. Unfortunately the PlayNC site is an outdated, byzantine piece of crap and whoever coded the site, regardless of their intent to "protect" consumers, needs to be shot in the face with a bazooka.

Another possibility is that the back-end for the site may be down as work goes on either for the back-end of the site itself and/or one of the games it services.

The final possibility is that the site itself is just broken (see "outdated, byzantine piece of crap" and "shoot 'em in the face with a bazooka").

Notice that the simple removal of Sauron's power with the destruction of The One Ring touched off an eruption of Orodruin and annihilated everything inside Mordor.
