Quote:We live in a crazy age of the game, where adding a permanent boost of +5% Resistance and Defense to all damage types is considered "a pittance".

Compared to the monster boost up front?
Also, a lot of that depends on your defenses pre-buff.
0% pre-buff defense? Not doing much.
40% pre-buff defense? More significant. -
Quote:Dammit!I just found out that my mom has about 2 months to live, due to cancer. I have told some people this already that she has cancer. But I just wanted to let the rest of the community know, and why I have not been on much, I might even be on less because of this.
You have my sympathies LSK, inadequate as they are.
Time with your mom is more important than the game (well, DUH!). -
Quote:My friend has issues with her client repeatedly crashing, both in game and at log-in. She recently got the game to play with myself and some friends, so I'm wondering is there anything we can look at settings wise to try and ease this before we go into the more involved technical support. Also, although I've done a quick search on both Google and through the forums if anyone else has had a similar problem or it's a known issue that I've missed a heads up would be greatly appreciated.
Can you point her at the "Asking for help on the forums" guide (Top Center image) in my sig?
The CoH Helper and HijackThis logs will help us give her an idea of what might be wrong. -
Quote:Hi guys,
I was working some new builds in mids and had this crazy thought regarding barrier and wanted to know if any other players have either thought the same thing or are currently playing this way.... Now, of course, this is assuming you will always play at level 50 and not exemp down...
So, if you get the T4 barrier, there shouldn't be any downtime from when it wears off to when you can activate it again, right? (Although I don't know how the scaling down of the resist/def would work as you get closer to the expiration of the power). But has anyone thought to just have this set to auto-click and for all of your IO enhancements and set bonuses just strictly focus on recharge/damage/accuracy and not even worry about trying to build up either positional or typed defense.
You wouldn't have to worry about trying to grab maneuvers or weave or even tough can be skipped unless using it as a set mule. That would open up other options you may have not tried before, as well as save on endurance not having to run those extra toggles.
Just a thought but not sure how it would actually work in-game as I have yet to get barrier to T4 to see its full effect. What do you guys think?
The barrier gives you lots of protection up front, but by the end of the 120-second mark, you've got just a pittance.
If you're looking to swap out Maneuvers, I'd say DO EET!
If you're looking to get rid of the Fighting pool as well? Uh. No. I really wouldn't recommend that. -
Quote:So, one thing I am confused about here is the 'series/season' moniker.
Series 1 and 2 had the usual 13 episodes?
But then along comes Children of Earth, which I take was only five episodes. So...kinda like the Tennant 'specials' but with a story running throughout?
But what about Miracle Day? Is it a full 'series' or another sequence of 'specials' Children of Earth? I would prefer the former, but the subtitle makes me think it's the latter.
Anybody know?
Technically it's a series of 10 episodes. So someplace in between CoE and a "regular" season. -
Quote:Need to know three things:OK I was gonna upgrade but can only do 1 or the other at this particular moment in time. I know RAM will increase my load speed and video card would make for a smoother gameplay with higher graphics turned up.
Here's the thing I only have 1 gig of RAM right now and my load speeds seem too slow to bare sometimes so I was just gonna get more RAM but honestly I'm not really tech savy. What would you tech experts get first and would a better video card have anything to do with load times at all?
Thanks for any help.
- Current Motherboard
- Current Video Card
- Budget (Would be helpful to know your desired budget and your max budget if a couple extra bucks would lead to a BIG jump in performance.)

So what're we doing people?
Tons of Terrific Taskforces?
A lot of Action-Packed Alignment Missions?
Ridiculous Repetitions of Raids?
Simply Silly Slews of Scanner missions? -
Ruff,
Thank you for the cursors.
I'm playing on a 24" monitor at 1920x1080 and have been having problems losing the cursor against all the power spam for some time now.
These cursor additions look to be JUST what I need. -
You forgot "Infinite Mini".
"Mini Dawn"
"Mini Twilight" (Well, maybe this one can be used to chainsaw sparkly vampire wannabes out of existance...) -
If you're looking for pets for damage, look at Cimerorans and Warworks.

If the version isn't stated, most of the time it's 1.0.

Quote:No. This is bad advice.Snow Globe, if there is one place I would put a page file, it would be on the SSD. I would suggest moving that immediately.
Doing that will significantly reduce the lifetime of the SSD unless you're running one that's DRAM-based, due to the high-traffic nature of the paging file.
Not when you're talking about perishable storage like SSDs it shouldn't.Quote:Not all SSDs are that fast, but given the option, if I had to chose, I would even rather put the OS on a regular 7200 or even 10k rpm drive than the page file. The page file should always, always be on the fastest drive in the system period.
With a paging file, YES, you want it on the fastest filesystem possible. But you want it on something that doesn't have a limited (compared to magnetic platter storage) number of write/overwrite cycles. -
Okay, usage of 2.0 is sometimes inconsistent.
Assuming a "PCI-E x16" slot is NOT 2.0, it's getting roughly 250 MB/Sec throughput on each "channel/lane". This works out to about 4 GB/Sec.
PCI-E 2.0 doubles the amount of data that can be transmitted per-channel/lane.
So a PCI-E 2.0 x16 slot is getting roughly 500 MB/Sec throughput on each "channel/lane". This works out to about 8 GB/Sec.
PCI-E 3.0 is using some different terminology. They're now talking about Gigatransfers instead of bits per second. It still breaks down into another doubling of lane/channel speed to 1 GB/Sec. Meaning a PCI-E 3.0 x16 device on a 3.0 connection would have a maximum throughput of 16 GB/Sec. -
Yep. Boomie, you've spawned another controller.
Basically all higher brain functions (and lower, including movement) stopped for a second and an "AW HOW CUTE!" was ripped from my lips.
GW's Soulstorm has NOTHING on an "AW HOW CUTE!" -

Okay, the long and short of it.
1: They put it on various global channel MOTDs.
2: They put it here in the forums.
3: They put it on the Protector Calendar.
4: They put it on the Facebook feed.
Now where else, EXACTLY were they supposed to put this to make it more easy for you to access the information?
Were they supposed to simply randomly spam every in-game global with the announcement (and get booted from the game for TOS violations)?
Were they supposed to randomly spam every channel and zone dozens of times a day just to make sure they happened to hit one while you were on and in-zone? And consequently run the same risk of TOS violation?
They'd already covered all the places they could easily broadcast the information to.
I understand your frustration at being excluded because you didn't know about it. But, realistically, what more would YOU have done in their place?
Also, "I don't want to go here/there" isn't an excuse either. -

We will be monitoring the GM spawn in the future. This week we're unsure if it was a spawn failure or if a person (or group) pulled him.
Hopefully this was just a random "burp". If not, the person or persons responsible will be reported to the GMs immediately for griefing. -
Quote:What're you planning to use for your Alpha slot? The final power is between Vengenance for the final global Recharge...which only brings my Hasten down to 124.9 and w/out it'd be around 127. It'd be nice to have Vengeance for the global and when on teams; however, the toon I built is for soloing AV's and doing things solo, so I thought Revive would be a better choice as final power. Anyone care to weigh in on my issue, any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Slot up Combat Jumping instead of Maneuvers.
DP is just overslotted. 4-slot it Numina and Doctored Wounds Heal/Rech and Heal/Rech/End. You get most of the raw benefit of 6-slotting and free up slots for things like Hurl.
Stamina's underslotted.
Do your best to replace the Smashing Haymakers with Kinetic Combats. It eliminates the need for Maneuvers if your main objective is to softcap+ S/L.
Think about economizing (slot-wise) and boosting non-S/L defense by 3-slotting Aegis (Res, Res/End, Res/Rech) and the Steadfast into Resist Physical Damage. Then four-slot Temp Invuln with the Reactive set.
This frees up a slot that can be used elsewhere.
I'd also strip the Winter's Gift Run/Jump/Flight IO out of SJ, reclaim the slot, and just leave the Slow protection in there.
Also, possibly look at swapping Hurl for Laser Beam Eyes. Hurl does more damage, but you have to be on the ground to use it. LBE works in-flight, recharges faster, and animates faster. -
I need to hit up S-Mart for a shotgun and a bunker-full-O' shells.
Oh yeah. And a chainsaw... -
Okay you've got two main problems.
Effects Overload (What I like to call "The Technicolor Vomit")
With 16-24 people, plus dozens of enemies, all in-zone, popping off powers as fast as possible, you're going to whack your machine. Your graphics processor, even at very low settings, is going to have massive problems with this.
Also, pop up your task manager while IN GAME and see how much free memory you have. I'm betting the answer is "none" and you're swapping/paging vigorously (to a laptop-class hard drive no less).
The advice about running safe mode might be your best bet. It's going to be ugly as ****, but I don't really see a way around it. -
Quote:I dunno. The spiderlings, combined with the Incarnate pets make for a HELL of a door/chokepoint defense force in the BAF.Even so, I dropped Spiderlings from my spec about the time I started doing Incarnate trials. They only last a few seconds before they're killed, and a dead pet contributes 0 DPS.
However... fast forward to Issue 20.5 and doing Keyes Island Reactor trials all the time. None of my pets can survive long enough to be useful. I hate to drop all my pets, but they are useless... or worse if I catch them chewing on Former Praetor Keyes during their brief existence.
So, I am going to have two permanent specs. The "bring home the bacon" spec with no pets, and the "lightweight" spec with all the pet powers and the Leadership pool.
I guess that's my answer. If you're doing Incarnate trials and want pets for their DPS, forget it. If you're playing regular missions for fun, keep them around and watch them chew on the ankles of your foes instead of staying at range and blasting.[/QUOTE]
