1.2MB animated gifs have that effect.

    1. Yep!
    2. Actually no I didn't. I just forgot to paste them in from another document. It's fixed now.
    3. I know. It's absolutely insane how customizable this game is.
  3. Okay,

We talk, over and over again about how extensive the character customization is. And most of the time we're talking about the costume editor.

Let's do a bit of "back of the napkin" math to run up a guesstimate of possible build combinations.

As of right now on Live.

    14 Archetypes

Blasters have 13 primary and 7 secondary sets
Controllers have 9 primary and 13 secondary
Defenders have 13 primary and 13 secondary
Scrappers have 15 primary and 10 secondary
Tanks have 10 primary and 15 secondary
Peacebringers have, essentially, 1 primary and 1 secondary
Warshades have, essentially, 1 primary and 1 secondary
Brutes have 16 primary and 11 secondary
Corruptors have 13 primary and 13 secondary
Dominators have 8 primary and 8 secondary
Masterminds have 7 primary and 11 secondary
Stalkers have 12 primary and 9 secondary
Soldiers, at final level, have 2 primaries and 2 secondaries
Widows, at final level, have 2 primaries and 2 secondaries

    1281 Primary/Secondary

9 Primary powers (EATS and VEATS have more choices)
9 Secondary powers (Again, EATS and VEATS have more choices)
    4 Inherent Fitness
3 Static Inherent (Brawl, Sprint, Rest)
1 Origin Inherent (One of 5 origins)
4 Ancillary pool choices (10 pools, 4 each powers deep, plus 3 additional "third tier" powers in the travel pools)
1 Epic pool choice (9 pools, 5 powers, varied by the 14 ATs)

    24 Power choices

    67 Assignable slots

    73 Alpha combinations (including "blank")

46 Judgement combinations (again, including "blank")

    73 Interface combinations

    118 Lore combinations

    46 Destiny combinations

    37 Hybrid combinations

Granted, a significant fraction of these are legal-but-broken-in-play or illegal configurations.

But I haven't even begun to delve into possible enhancement combinations, and we're already talking about numbers in the tens or hundreds of QUADRILLIONS.

Because a single screenie won't give you all your costume info, badge info, build info, etc.

The fields are size-limited. So you won't get "everything". But they give you a decent list. Especially if names are short.

  6. This is my earliest screenshot in the game.

    From July 4th 2008.

I did find some old screenies i thought might be worth posting, though this was early days... excuse the costumes It's a bit like being a self-respecting adult and your mum gets the childhood photo album out, lol...

K, this was my first ever screenie, taken before i'd even actually moved an inch in the world, don't remember the toon name but he was claw/somet scrapper, deleted him half way through the tute...

Okay, the screenshot function has, for a while now, encoded character names into the metadata of the image.

    This toon's name was Chancing.

Maybe it's that I'm using Windows 7, and not XP. I never saw that info on XP, is this something that I would never have known because I wasn't using a different OS?

I mean, it's back on ALL the screenies dating from 8-31-05 onward.

Did Globals go live that day? It wasn't my computer changing, because I'd lost a video card somewhere in there and gotten a new one, but these are a constant stream of shots and then BAM on that day all the info is now included. Did some back-end thing change about saving?

Yeah. It's part of the metadata of the screenshot.
It bloats the size of the image a little (and can be stripped out if you want). But it's really nice. My screenshot gallery actually benefits from the metadata a bit. If you click on one of the thumbnails to get the full-size image, you get a subtitle underneath with the metadata string.
  9. It's probably that cheap because it's using integrated graphics.

Honestly, performance of these systems are going to be somewhat "meh".

What kind of budget are you playing with here? We might be able to suggest something only marginally more expensive with a slightly better performance profile.

Also, if you're buying a CyberPower system, I'd look at going directly to their site and working up a system in their configuration matrix. It'll help you dial in price and options you want more easily.

I dunno. I wasn't all that shocked by Mr. Williams' choice of lunch spots. And the hook-up was pretty obvious if you ask me.

  11. Shot a tweet off to Jim Butcher as well. Let's see what magic Harry Dresden can work up.
  12. Sent copies of the main costume that I normally have him in and a copy of his original costume, plus the cape I added to it the second I unlocked capes.

So...do NOT accuse me of not trying to help.
I didn't say you weren't trying to help. I said that an overtly hostile attitude towards NCSoft could wind up having you **** in someone else's cornflakes. That, in and of itself would NOT help.

If you wanna be angry, fine. Just know where to draw the line.

Perhaps not people...but certainly end things for assorted species.
Okay. The whole "escort them to the door" started BECAUSE people couldn't be civil.

Second. Where has NCSoft committed some "social injustice"?

They closed down a property THEY OWNED.

They haven't, to my knowledge, committed any environmental atrocities.

And as far as I know, they haven't killed anyone.

So acting as if they're Dynatox Industries, going out and dumping nuclear waste on seal pups and laughing about it (while uploading it to a web video) is a HUGE overreaction.

NCSoft is NOT evil though. They're a bunch of people trying to make a living in the gaming industry. And, in most cases, they're beholden to investers, since few companies have a rich sugar-daddy as one of their founders.

Know how to make a small fortune in the gaming industry?
    Start with a larger one.

If you wanna be angry, more power to you.

But please try to be somewhat civil. Otherwise, you could do or say something that could severely hurt others' chances for helping the game and community out.

They shut down Paragon Studios. Yes. Business decision. This is why NCSoft isn't a tax-free charity.

They didn't toss their employees out the door without notice.

Friday WAS the notice. If you watch the last Coffee talk from Wednesday (as I did last night), Zwill was talking about the job fairs they have coming through for the employees. They're getting severance packages, and some people are on board until the company shuts the servers off.

In the real world, companies don't give employees 2 years's notice.

    Quote:
They didn't just decide to close down the game, they fired everyone on the spot and shut down everything but the actual servers without notice.
Well, if they're not developing the game, why is NCSoft paying them? Oh yeah, severance.

    Quote:
That isn't something I'm prepared to forgive... not just because I'm mad that the game is ending, but because I feel for the entire studio of people who showed up to work on August 31 only to find out that they no longer had a job.
I'm fairly certain there were inklings of what was happening prior to the 31st.

    Quote:
Maybe that's normal procedure for large scale layoffs. I neither know nor care.
No. You just want someone to be angry with. That's cool, and understandable, and yeah, real life sucks sometimes.

    Quote:
I just know that I would be angry with any corporation who did it ("everyone else does it" is not a valid reason for being total jerks) and when it also means my favorite MMO is going away, then yes... I'm even madder.
Being angry with NCSoft accomplishes nothing. And, if people are rude and antagonistic towards them, it could toss a wrench in certain efforts to salvage some or all of this game.

They're not going to save this game themselves or do anything to help anyone else in doing that because it serves NO interest to their business. Get a grip, all of you.

By the bye, I'll be there with both my accounts

The poor Cylon! Forced to write in Comic Sans!
  21. Basic instructions:

    1. Log into CoH on the character you want to capture.
    2. Open up your Info window so you can capture your badges too.
    3. Start up Sentinel Plus, it'll capture your character.
    4. Alt
    5. Click ENTER to capture the next character.

Some things to keep in mind.

    1. It's essentially a command line app. No buttons. But, all you need to do is click ENTER for each successive capture after the first.
    2. If you want to capture the same character again later, simply repeat the process. If you want to keep the original capture, rename it or move it first.
    3. It's currently Windows-only. They're trying to come up with options for Mac/*nix players. But given the time-frame, some may need to bite the bullet.
    4. Some early reports are saying it gets a bit tetchy after running a few toons back to back to back. Best recommendation is, if you're trying to capture them as seamlessly as possible, every 4-8 characters, shut down both the game AND SentinelPlus, then restart them.
