You mean you didn't follow my guide and just leave your launcher up and running to slurp the patch?

    Memory leak?

    Anyone else?
Really? Wow. They must've finally made the app large-memory aware.

Ya may want to reread the EULA bub.

This basically sums up my feelings on the matter.

The problem was Zwill gave a complete BS (as in impossible without a hack or a dev tool) parameter and people had been demonstrating that it was possible to set it off with something significantly lower than those benchmarks.

    Agreed!

I'd like to see that screenshot. I'd also wonder if the memory reported was from two separate threads being reported as a single thread.

Note: There ARE ways to get some 32-bit apps to address more. This is, essentially, PAE. And as noted, it has adverse performance characteristics.

Again, I didn't say the app CRASHES the second it pops over 1.5GB. It merely runs less stably. I've had the app up to about 1.8GB for various patch versions and never had a crash. And on some patch versions in the last three years, it'd go above 1.5GB and BLAM!, I'm back on my desktop.

Ultimus, it's time to get a 64-bit operating system and maybe treat yourself to a solid state drive (SSD) to put it on.

    Jer
Yes. The system shadows video card memory. So someone with a 2GB GTX 560 is going to only see about 2GB available on a 4GB system.

Windows can assign up to 2GB per-process for 32-bit apps and the core OS will utilize up to 2GB of memory itself. So you can see how things would get tight almost immediately.

To me, the individual prices are trivial. I have a decent job and don't hurt for cash. For someone forced to a premium account (as I know of a few) by financial straits and just general free-players, these price points provide a disincentive to actually use the market on a steady basis.

Yes. But the whole thing about a MICROtransaction system is to make the prices relatively trivial to ensure a steady income from the MICROtransaction system, even without a sub. What I'm saying is a median price of $10 is NONtrivial and will lead free players to deprecating use of the market.
  11. Next time this happens, flip out of the game and open up the Task Manager. See how much memory the CoH process is eating.

This could be one of two things.

1: Yes it could just be the memory leak.
2: Your system could be memory/swap(paging file) starved and the system is simply running out of available physical memory and swap, but not really overflowing its process limits.

Could you hit the link in my sig and post a CoH Helper and HijackThis log back here?

Tony, while what you are saying makes sense. You've completely missed the real point here.

What people are talking about isn't necessarily prices in relation to VIP customers who can just save for stuff.

It's prices with regards to establishing a STABLE microtransaction flow from Standard/Premium players. You know, the ones who AREN'T getting $5 a month in bribes. I'll say it again. There is NOTHING "micro" about a $10 median price point when that same $10 can get you a monthly sub AND the $5 in bribe points.

If so, I'd probably send a petition.

Yes, names are first come first serve. But hijacking numerous high profile names is something the mods should do something about.

If it really IS a memory leak, likely more memory would NOT help you unless your machine is just heavily loaded out on how much memory it's using when idle.

The game is still a 32-bit application. So the maximum memory that can be assigned to it is 2GB (though it becomes squirrelly above 1.5GB).

    Quote:
    1) I currently have 4 gigs of RAM. If I add more RAM to this, is it going to do anything since I am on a 32-bit OS?
There are ways to enable addressing of larger memory spaces in 32-bit OSes (look up PAE). Don't even try it though. It's not supported on yours for one and hacking your system to do it would likely make it LESS stable, if it worked at all. And two, it comes with a fairly hefty drop in memory performance.

    Quote:
    2) My other option is to upgrade to a Windows 7 64-Bit OS. I don't run any applications that wouldn't work on this. To my knowledge though you gotta wipe the harddrive going from 32 to 64 bit. Is the change difficult to do? I've personally never installed an OS before...
Not really. If you don't mind wiping your system (especially if it's gotten old and crufty in the last year or so), there's nothing really stopping you from reinstalling. I'd recommend backing up everything you want first. THEN, during the install, use the tools in the installer to delete the existing partitions and recreate them from scratch as part of the install.

This way you don't get an "upgrade" style install (where it chunks the pre-existing Windows install into a "Windows-Old" folder. This can have detrimental side-effects on a 32-to-64 migration.

    3) If I do end up upgrading to Windows 7, what is the best 64-bit version? Is there different ones?
Unless you want to spend the beaucoup bucks for Ultimate (and there's no real reason to), I'd say Windows Home Premium.

    Windows 7 Ultimate - 64-bit OEM: $190

    Windows 7 Home Premium - 64-bit OEM: $100

You're wrong. Everything is always visible on the market. Even if you already own it. And there is NO indicator as to what you have bought already.

You're missing the basic point here. The prices are too high.

This is supposed to be a MICRO-transaction system we've converted over to.

There's nothing "micro" about a median price point of $10.

They're trying to get free-players to spend real money for points to purchase inconsequentials.

With most of the stuff being roughly in the $10-20 range, it's more economical just to buy a monthly subscription via time-card. $9.50 a month.

They're essentially pricing themselves OUT of the F2P market.

Check your e-mail for the costume unlocks. Like Incarnate costume pieces, they should be in there.
  21. Managed to nab Hyperstrike. Running up a clone of my main now.

Will the Twinshot arc ever end?

    AUUUUGH!

Anyone plan on doing the same?
Nope. It's a server that only a limited subset of people will be able to access at-will. That, already, divides the community.

Why cordon myself off from everyone who isn't paying a monthly sub fee?
