"I don't understand! I don't do drugs, my grades are fine, and you know I haven't done anything worthy of expulsion!"
"We found something else in your blood test son."
"Impossible! I don't do drugs, I don't touch steroids. If you found anything stronger than aspirin, I'll eat my helmet!"
"No, we found something besides that."
"Huh?!?!?"
"Kid, with the new division rules in place, they did a genetic screen on you too."
"I don't understand, what..."
"Kid, you're a mutant."
"WHAT!?"
"A mutant."
"C'mon coach, this ain't funny. What the hell is going on!"
"Kid, I'm just the coach. I can't tell you squat. All I know is that the division rules strictly prohibit anyone with superpowers from competing."
"Super..coach! I don't have superpowers!"
"I'm sorry kid. I have no say in this. They've got one of these government science types coming out here to evaluate you and give you more information. I only know what the report the dean slapped down on my desk said."
"So that's it? A full four-year scholarship and any prospects for playing football in the pros flushed and swirlied? Because some stupid piece of paper says I'm..."
"Dammit son! How many times do you want me to say "I'm sorry" here? It sucks! I understand. I..CANNOT..STOP...IT!"
"So doc. What the hell is wrong with me?"
"Wrong? Nothing! Why would you say something was wrong?"
"Two words doc. FOOTBALL SCHOLARSHIP. Making more sense now?"
"Yes yes. You don't have the opportunity to get your brains sloshed around by some socially maladjusted man-child with a thyroid problem. Such a travesty..."
"Look! I just got booted from a university that was giving me a full ride, completely trashing my educational prospects for pretty much EVER because I am now blacklisted from pretty much EVER playing football at the collegiate or professional level. So cut the down-your-nose schpiel and tell me what the hell is going on with me and can I fix it?"
"I will restate myself young man. There's nothing wrong with you. You merely have a mutant ceulluar structure."
"Oh. ONLY. So what? I get to set myself on fire? I turn purple and start sucking the life out of everyone in sight? I grow a donkey head?"
"Too late..."
"WHAT?"
"Sorry. A bit of humor. Are you sure you're past puberty? The angst-level in here is stifling."
"Listen doc. I'm six foot and two hundred pounds. You're five foot nothing and about one twenty soaking wet."
"Oooh. Violence! I shudder! No! No! I understand. You're stressed. So I'll get down to the core of the issue. I'll even use small words for you."
"..."
"Very well. For the most part you have a basic human physiology. Ten fingers, ten toes, a mouth, and all the accouterments of **** sapiens sapiens."
"Humans."
"Bingo! Except for one teensy little anomaly. You have a not-so-small alteration in a portion of what's normally considered "junk DNA" in humans. Something we had, or acquired thousands or millions of years ago and don't really use anymore."
"But I'm using it?"
"Short answer. Yes. But it's more than that. This segment of DNA is more or less identical for everyone. But, in you, this segment is radically different, and its causing alterations in the chromosomes around it."
"So What? Am I going to suddenly turn into a frog or something?"
"No. As nearly as we can tell, while the change is both pronounced and extensive, the overall effect on your physiology is fairly small. It's given you a somewhat limited healing factor?"
"What? Like Wol..."
"Nothing so grandiose. For the most part, it's not really much more useful than the normal healing mechanisms already at play in your body. It seems to be tied to a secondary mutation that allows you to absorb small amounts of background radiation. It's fairly low level. So the amounts of power are miniscule."
"So? What? I get better? Slowly?"
"Actually yes. Remember, healing in most people isn't really restoring your body back to status quo. It's more like spackling over damage and trying to get back to some semblance of normalcy."
"So what's the difference?"
"Your body is not just healing the damage, it's actually regenerating your physical structure in an exact manner."
"Sooooo, what's the difference?"
"Ah. Caveman need pictographs. Okay, I'll give you a "for instance". In a motorcycle accident, you're probably dealing with abrasions or "road rash" in common parlance, broken bones, some blunt trauma, etc."
"Well, for the bones, when Joe Normal heals up, he's still got the breaks there. They've just been grown over with a layer of new bone material and aren't QUITE as strong as they were previously. The skin, more obviously, is scarred over. It still performs the job of covering your body, but it's not the same thing as normal skin."
"Okay?"
"With you, your bones would knit back together like new. You might have some residual calcium buildup in the area from the normal healing process as well. But after a bit of time, nobody, even with X-Rays, could tell you'd ever broken a bone. And your skin. No scarring. Your skin would grow back just as it was, surface "defects" like that mole there and all."
"So I...just...get...better?"
"Yes. But it's not like you can cut off an arm and have a new one just pop out."
"Ow. What would happen?"
"Well, remember, I said that your regeneration was roughly on-par with normal human healing speed. YES, you MIGHT regrow an arm, eventually. But we're talking years. Or decades. Probably longer than a normal human lifespan before it grew back. And much longer before it was actually a useful appendage."
"So it'd grow back, but probably not before I die of old age. Right. No arm-chopping... So that's it?"
"More or less. Now there's probably some mechanisms in there for enhancing your immune system as well. Mutations like this normally go hand-in-hand with that."
"So it's not like I'm super-strong or anything. I don't outrun trains or anything. I'm just heal a bit differently. What's stopping me from competing just like anyone else?"
"Because you're NOT like everyone else. Your regeneration abilities are only barely understood. What's more, it COULD conceivably give you a competitive edge. You can train harder, work harder, and you don't have to guard against injury the same way a normal player would. This is why the metahuman rules were added to the charter."
"So, because of something I have no control over, my entire life is screwed. No football. No college."
"There are options open to you."
"Like what? Lab rat for the government? Like a job that demands I ask "would you like fries with that"? Like..."
"Like the military. Like law enforcement. Like emergency services. Or any of a hundred other careers that could use your skills. Young man, life threw you a curveball. Deal with it." -

Quote:Question: How is this really, in any way different from previous issue rollouts (other than the multiple hardware upgrades)? You are correct that using the term beta is wrong on our part. It is not a "Beta". That doesn't change the fact that they are using the Headstart to make sure as much as possible is working before they launch the Free/Premium accounts so those players will hopefully endure as few problems as humanly possible.
In 2042, Issue {INSERT NUMBER} Was Beginning
Us: Somebody set us up the bugs!
Devs: Main patch turn on!
Us: All your bugs are belong to us!
Devs: What you say!
Us: HAHAHA you are on your way to bugs. Make your time!
Devs: Patch every zig!
Seriously though. Every issue tends to have a couple of really nasty show-stoppers, and a swarm of nasty little issues and annoyances that need to be swatted.
The only difference this time is that the free-players aren't included just yet. -
Quote:First, "thousands"? Maybe a couple hundred. Not everyone likes grinding trials endlessly. Yours truly included.I agree. If they didn't, thousands of players would have enough salvage to create all the new incarnate slots without running a single trial.
Second, what the hell are you talking about? Without running a single trial? How the hell do you think they GOT their current salvage? Running RIDICULOUS amounts of trials!
And with the differentiation between 4 types of salvage (Common through Very Rare), the dumb luck of acquiring anything in the last two tiers and the absolutely punitive up-conversion costs to build the rare and very rare salvage if you aren't getting the drops. I'd say it's only natural for people to hoard this stuff.
And if they happen to be able to get the top-tier of the next slot(s) before they dive into the new content that accompanies the slots, so be it. EVERYONE isn't doing it. And these people have put the effort into accumulation. Why not let them enjoy the fruits of their labor?
It would be possible to use the same currency and to gate the new powers by time instead, but people hate that even more than new currencies.[/QUOTE] -
Quote:Sorry, but even exemped, you're STILL ridiculously overpowered compared to the content. Most of your attacks are 5/6 slotted at this point and your defenses are fleshed out.One of things I've been looking forward to as part of the i21 release are the Signature Story Arcs. However after actually trying them I'm far from impressed. Yes the so far unique maps might be great, the overall concept may be earth shatteringly amazing but why oh why do I have to be exemplared down to level 20 to experience it?
I can understand not wanting to trivialise this content so exemping me down a bit I could understand (or hell just making Incarnate powers not function) but by pushing me so far down my characters with few exceptions are gimped. Losing damaging powers, knock back protection and pets is non-trivial too and it makes the arc annoying rather than fun.
I just hope that the subsequent arcs aren't for such low level characters. Oh yeah and bearing in mind that Sutter at least boosts the powers of lowbies, there is nothing stopping that being used to artificially level 20s up to say 40, which IMO would result in a far better experience for everyone.
I ran my main tank through this. And even though he's built to exemp, gracefully, down to 30, 20 can be a bit...much. He still walked right over the content. Runs of the Signature arc were 8-11 minutes. Non-ghosting.
At level 20, with all his powers up to 25, he was sitting around 20% defense before Invincibility. Combined with his resists, regen and recovery (which is balanced for his power consumption at 50 and totally overkill for 5 attacks with his vet powers comprising 2 of them) he's a monster.
Considering that these arcs give you the ability to rack up 2 hero merits a week, I can see these becoming the preferred method for building hero merits without spending any Inf. And I can see myself getting very rich and loaded out on nice rares this way. -
Quote:This topic has been brought up many times. There are definitly far too many channels on this server, and whilst the suggestion has been made to merge the channels, nothing has really been done about it.
This post outlines my suggestion for how we should do it, aswell as to create a dedicated thread to discuss this issue in.
The Suggestion
We use 2 main channels for this server.
Exalted Events - Used to arrange all forms of events regardless of the type. They could be your Costume Contests, PvP Ladders, Mothership Raids, Trails, Badge Hunts, Task Forces, Hamidon Raids etc. If it's an event carried out on the server, it could go under that heading.
VIP - Used for general chatting/socialsing, forming pickup groups and having fun. Annihilus has his Friday night Triva too, which would make this the perfect fun social channel for the server.
All other channels that are not under this heading would merge into them for the sake of keeping the community together. If you were a Mod of your previous channel, then you'd also became a Mod of the merged channel.
I honestly think if we could pull this off, and ALL channel leaders were in agreement with this it would be a huge step forward for the community.
The Discussion
So as I said previously, that was just a suggestion as does not have to be carried out. The 2 channels I suggested were because they were in my opinion the 2 that best suited the servers need, but that doesn't mean everyone will share that same opinion.
It would be important for us to make this work that the 'channel leaders' did not have a huge bias in their own channel and will be uncooperative if it was not their channel used as the 'main channels'. I may be a large active role in Exalted Events, however if it was another channel like BMT of Exalted used then I would be more than happy to leave EE to merge with them. What's important is we pull this off, not that it's your channel used.
I hope this thread can turn into something good, and it can be used as a platform to make it what the server really needs, 1 or 2 channels for people to join instead of 8 or 9.
Thanks for reading folks.
Honestly, I dunno how well this is gonna go over.
I'm kinda reminded of this:

Trying to get all of them to agree would take godlike amounts of persuasion (or trickery). We're only "mere" superheroes. -

Quote:You're forgetting the other prerequisite.Incorrect you have going rogue installed either way, you can only access the content if you've purchased it.
A paid monthly subscription.
That's missing in the case of VIPs. Is it not, therefore, reasonable to expect that certain systems aren't available?
Honestly, this has been a known issue for how long now? Why, all of the sudden, is a huge stink being raised?
Because someone who didn't bother to do the required reading feels butt-hurt? -
Quote:I'd really like to have seen you access Incarnate content without a subscription in the last year.I HAD TO BUY GR TO USE INCARNATES, THERE FOR I HAD TO BUY INCARNATES,NOT SUBSCRIBE TO ACCESS THEM, BUY THEM.
Correction. You had to buy GR to be able to access the Incarnate system when it went into place later. Meaning there was ancillary technology in GR (not i18) that the Incarnate system of i19 rests upon.
Evidently.Quote:So simple some people just don't get it.
You required GR to access a host of other systems as well. Such as the Alignment system. Such as Ultra Mode. Such as Praetoria itself.
You retain access to these systems if you've bought GR as they were explicitly part of GR. If you have enough Paragon Rewards built up to have unlocked (or you pay to unlock) Controllers and MMs, you retain access to Demon Summoning and the other power sets released in GR. You retain the ability to create a Praetorian.
The thing you gripe about retaining was never part of the final release of GR/i18. Therefore, you didn't pay for it. -
Quote:Please show where you could access Incarnate content with the release of GR.Your point? I'm just stating the fact that incarnates was part of going rogue. No more no less.
Oh wait. You couldn't.
GR was one of two prerequisites for the Incarnate system.
- Going Rogue
- Ongoing subscription
But you never paid directly for it.
The Incarnate content was included in Issue 19. -
-
You want to get into several of the dedicated channels for your server choice(s). This will give you access to a wider group to pull from than just whoever happens to be in-zone at the time.
Additionally, when you find people you enjoy playing with, ask if you can friend or global friend them.
Finally, accept that villain-side population IS lower than hero-side. So there are times you're not going to be able to fill a team. -
Make sure you're on the latest drivers.
http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp-2...ql-driver.html
Also, that card is "okay" for CoH, but don't expect monster framerates or super-high graphical settings. -
Quote:Yup. Someone failed physics forever on this one.In this variation crashes near Smallville but he ship continues through and burrow to Siberia
Anything moving fast enough to burrow through the planet on a more or less straight line and tough enough to actually survive the process would wind hitting with so much kinetic force that you'd have two major ecological disaster areas consisting of hundreds of square miles at both the entry and exit points. The pressure wave alone would destroy anything in the entry zone out to several miles. -
Then you got a hell of a deal. Because the same machine direct from Lenovo is $200 more.
-
Quote:No. What they're saying is that, in all likelihood, you'll be able to continue to play CoH on 10.5 for a while. But, if/when it eventually breaks, they can't help you.Seriously?! You only give same day notice about no longer supporting a version of the OS that is still in general use and is in use by your player base??! This feels very much like dropping your XP customers without any prior notice (...you haven't done that, right? Not trying to be funny, I seriously don't know, though I doubt it).
I thought after this whole mess with the the Mac version of the Beta client, you would be a little more considerate in regards to your Mac players.
I sincerely hope that the game won't stop working under 10.5 right aways, as it did briefly during the Freedom update because someone wrote a 10.6 minimum requirement into one of the pref files. If that is the case people should have at least some time to decided if they want to upgrade and to implement that update.
I run 10.5.8 on the Mac I play COH on. It worked fine with the Freedom upgrade. I doubt that I will rush to upgrade that machine for a game.
I've been here as a paying customer since day 1, and I can say the last couple of month have been the most frustrating ever.
And the reason they can't help you is that Apple won't help them OR Transgaming. Their assistance will consist of seven words, "have them upgrade to the current version".
They're letting you know now, most likely, because Apple finally just told them this in the last day or so. -
Quote:Never said it would hurt me. Just that the grasping nature of some of the individuals here was offensive. So explain to me, apart from having nothing to complain about atm, how this would hurt you?
I'm not ranting. That you can label it such means that you simply aren't able to look at what I've said objectively.Quote:You don't make any sense and you're ranting is pointless bordering on abusive and doesn't fix anything not to mention, again, it would literally do NOTHING to you to try to make some of these people feel less tread on.
If it doesn't make any sense to you, again, it means you're not looking at it objectively.
That you think what I've said here constitutes abuse reinforces it.
I'd suggest taking a few nice, deep breaths, and coming back to this in a week or two. Then see how offensive it looks to you.
Right now I have no further desire to attempt debate with someone who's hell-bent on ignoring anything I actually say in a frothing attempt to label me as "the bad guy" here. -
Quote:I could say the same about a lot of the crap I've read here. Including the above statement. My goodness you really are turning into GG. What a totally pointless and rediculous comment.
Another person who needs remedial reading...Quote:Telling said customer he has no right to be unhappy.
*SIGH*
Again, I've never said nobody has the right to be unhappy.
If you want to be unhappy, fine. What you don't have the right to do is try to coerce or annoy someone else until they do something that you'd define as "making you happy".
Again, I've never said nobody has the right to complain.
Knock yourself out!
But your right to complain has to compete with my right to point out the holes in your lines of "reason".
Don't care for someone giving you bald, unadorned truth? Toughski ****ski.
*SNERK*Quote:It appears this company and this game are perfect and anyone with any issue is obviously a loser who doesnt know when he is well off. I'm surprised anyone dares talk about anything that they are unhappy with the way you get jumped on in this forum. Long live free speech huh?
You OBVIOUSLY haven't been reading my stuff if I've somehow given the impression I think the company and its actions are perfect.
As to free speech.
You understand that ONLY applies to the government. And even there, there's caveats.
For a private company, hosting it's own controlled venue, you have no such right. They can, at any point, shut you up/down and you have zero "rights". As they're not obliged by law to provide you with a platform for your views. -
Quote:Honestly, if they're going to complain, they should take it up with customer support. I agree that their complaint is valid. It sucks for them. I'm merely pointing out that they really don't have a foot to stand on for making demands.Hyperstrike, the reason you're experiencing so much vitriol is because you have effectively said (intentionally or not) "you do not have the right to ask for a resolution to your complaint, nor to propose what you feel is suitable recompense".
Which, I'm afraid, is tantamount to saying that the complaint is invalid.
Me, I'm going to leave it up to NCsoft to decide what they're going to offer me as compensation for effectively nuking my available playtime this month. But I do not believe that "nothing" is valid recompense for customers making what even you have said is a valid complaint.
NCsoft have the "opportunity" I mentioned to make me a happy customer, regardless of my complaint. We'll see if they seize it.
And the whole "complain to make them give us something to go away" mentality is, for me at least, offensive.
If PARAGON, however, feels THEY need to make recompense, fine. -
Quote:In the case of a case of coke, an empty (but sealed) can is one thing. If you bought a six pack of coke and one was empty you'd expect it to be replaced. That's all these people are saying.
They paid money for product (in this case game time) and feel they aren't receiving said product.
They just want their coke. Even if it is marginal. In fact if it IS so marginal as some people keep harping on about then they should just do it, get it over with, and why should you care at all? You'll get it to and it won't impact you at all.
Now we all know it won't happen but there it is.
Getting past the checkout line and finding the case is missing a can is another.
Coming back later and going "I only got 23!" is caveat emptor.
In this case, nobody promised you 24x30 days of continual, maintenance-free uptime to the service.
I'll say this again. YOU DID NOT PAY FOR UNINTERRUPTED 24 HOUR A DAY, 30(31) DAYS A MONTH ACCESS!
What some people object to is not being given stuff by Paragon because they genuinely feel they want to do something for the players.
What they're objecting to is the "GIMME GIMME GIMME! YOU OWE ME! sentiment". Kinda like the guys who stand on the exit ramps of expressways. When you come to a stop, they immediately (and without asking) splash some water on your windshield, run a squeegee over it then demand five bucks because "they washed your windshield".
And trying to make us complicit in your "complain until they give us something to make us go away" scheme, by promising that "we'll get some too", is just as idiotic, irritating, and generally nausea-inducing. -

Quote:If you agree with this post then please take notes from it. Its how you make your point without belittling half the people in the thread and making yourself look bad. His post is tastefully done and doesn't give me the impression he is talking down to me like hes my superior.
The only reason I'd have to even give the appearance of denigrating people I'm talking to is having to explain my position after someone accuses me of saying something I didn't say due to having not (or mis)read something I've said.
