    Wow. Way to false-choice it.

There's a few more options. Like they COULD let critical bugs go until the next maintenance window. But people would then gripe about letting critical bugs go unpatched for more than a day.

Some of them are issues that DIRECTLY affect gameplay (like Praetorian free-to-players running into the old level cap.

Bugs like these are not something you can plan every eventuality for. You can make general plans. And they HAVE. When these show-stoppers come up, they patch IMMEDIATELY.

I'd rather that then find out that I have to wait another week for a maintenance window because of a horrific bug revealed 10 minutes after the close of the last maintenance window.

    It comes down to this.

Some people think ANY downtime for maintenance is unacceptable.
Some people think the amount of downtime for maintenance CURRENTLY is unacceptable.
Some people think that the amount of downtime for maintenance currently is irritating but if it patches bugs, c'est la vie.
And some freaks beg for more downtime so they can de-graft themselves from their chairs for a few seconds.
  2. Ah, beat me to it.

    Thanks for helping him guys.

It's possible there are issues on the account server and you're showing up as premium right now due to lousy communications.

    1. Make sure when you update your drivers, completely rid your hard drive of the old drivers and reboot before installing the new ones; driver sweeper is one program that works good, but I've found that running my registry cleaner makes doubly sure.
Good advice for the most part. However, in the recent past, with AMD cards, some issues were found in later driver revs. The only advice for that was to roll back to an earlier driver rev.

    Quote:
    2. You either use the settings on the graphics driver or the game, not both.
Honestly, I recommend letting the game handle it. This way I don't have to futz with the driver settings AND the game settings. What can I say, I'm lazy.

    Quote:
    3. Use the lowest settings in either case, and then "sneak up" until you get a good framerate and picture quality.
Actually, in this game, I'd say:

    1. Set the resolution to what you want it to be.
    2. Bounce to one of the graphically heavy zones so you can pull a worst-case scenario.
    3. Depending on card
      1. With a low or midrange card, set it to recommended and watch your framerate. Tweak stuff up from there if you want it prettier. Tweak it down if your framerate is horrible.
      2. With a high-end gamer-oriented card, set it to Ultra mode then customize it from there. Both Je Saist and myself have graphics guides available to help you make a decision as to what to turn on and off.

    Quote:
    4. For those with lower end graphic cards, there is a program called mobility modder (google it), it has saved me from tossing a many computer out of the window, read and follow the instructions first (the tech support dept told me about that program btw).
I'm actually new to that app. Good find!

    Quote:
    5. When you are playing, turn off all other programs that are running down there by your clock, I personally only have my anti virus running while in game.
There are also tweaks that can be made to shut down background services as well.

    Quote:
    6. Remember Item #2? If you use the games graphics settings, avoid "ultra mode" at first.
Depends on the card really. If you have bought a high-end gaming card you're better off jumping off the deep end and swimming back to settings that are more in tune with your system.

    Quote:
    7. New does not always mean better, sometimes you get better (or at least tolerable) performance with the driver you have, if properly configured.
A(MD)MEN! You may want to consider merging this with #1 and fleshing out the description a bit more.

    Quote:
    8. Turn off all unnecessary windows services ( I actually googled that exact phrase and found excellent articles and tutorials), the reason being that some of those services may be robbing you of useful memory, which your graphics could be using.
This could be combined with 5.

    Quote:
    9. Keep your computer cool and dust free.
You may want to explain that they need to shut down, pop the side off the machine and gently blow it out with compressed air from a can. Also let them know that they don't want to be using the compressed air to spin the fans. They run the risk of damaging the bearings and snapping the blades.

[quote[10. Defrag hard drive ....twice in a row, use a defrag program other than the windows, I use auslogics, its free and pretty darn good, when the servers are down I run Ultimate Defrag 3 (its not free).[/quote]Depends on if you're using platter-based drives or Solid State disks. On an SSD, defragging gains you nothing.

    Quote:
    11. Now this point I discovered last night; for the past week I had been battling a major rubberbanding issue, so I did a wipe of CoH and the launcher, reinstalled both with my same driver, logged in the game early this morning and my rubberbanding had stopped!
Betting you were having file fragmentation issues. Or needed to run a repair check. On systems that aren't running SSDs (like my laptop), I use PerfectDisk and file-defrag the piggs directory in CoH. This cuts down on the amount of disk thrashing the game does looking for file parts.

No this was with Incarnate abilities.
Basically I spawned my Lore pets and beat on him until they disappeared.
Then I beat on him to keep him at about the same health and he climbed back up a little before I could spawn my Lore pets again. Once the pets were up, I whittled him all the way down.

Musculature seems good, who doesn’t like more damage, but it seems to only add like 10 damage a hit when I add it in MIDS.
If you don't have any major End issues or accuracy issues, I'd say go with Spiritual. Being able to attack more often would up your damage over time.

You may want to look at what you're getting in secondary and tertiary boosts from more advanced Alphas. Those could be the deal-makers. Like Spiritual adds Healing, +ToHit, Disorient, Slow, and Jump as additional effects at higher levels.

Destiny: Barrier might be good to up my Res, since that is Shield’s big weakness, but the defense would really be wasted. Rebirth is good for healing/regen, which I don’t have a ton of, but I have SL, so do I really need healing? Clarion might be useful for the UG or something, but I don’t really get statused up. Ageless, meh, End and Recharge, good to have but not a must have.
Don't just look at the Destiny slot for personal choices. Look at how they'd affect the team. For the first two trials (BAF/LAM) the additional defense of Barrier helps. For the Keyes trial, Rebirth is almost mandatory unless you like running from the hospital. And yes, Clarion is great on the UG trial. As for Ageless. We'll see how that one pans on a couple trials down the road.

    Quote:
Lore: Wow, the choices, completely lost here….
If you're tanking and simply want to add damage potential, look at Cimerorans or Warworks (stay away from the choices sporting Battle Orb). They're the two highest DPS pet sets out there. Outside of that, I dunno. A lot of it is just choice.

    Quote:
What do you guys run, what opinions do you have on the various abilities. The obvious answer is to just make a ton of everything so I can decide for myself, but I have limited playtime with my new baby, so I can’t run 5+ trials a night 7 nights a week. Heck, I’m lucky to get 5 hours of playtime in a week.

    Thanks!
    Hyperstrike is currently running:

    Pyronic Judgement
    Reactive Interface
Barrier Destiny (With a lower-level Rebirth and/or Clarion that I can swap in.)
    Warworks Lore

  10. My Inv/SS tank has beaten down at least Jurassik.

I did kinda have to run him to the ragged edge of endurance exhaustion to do so. But I got me my two merits!

Because you're going to be seeing a lot of AoE from L54 Rikti Magi down in the bowl as well. That's going to splash right through your non-afterburner defense levels.

Endurance will be a bit of an issue, but that's why I'm leaning towards the Cardiac alpha slot. Of course, I am open to and want suggestions.

    Quote:
The reason for the five travel powers is that you need two Flight pool powers to get Afterburner, and I'm a flight junkie. Personally, I don't really want Super Speed, but I've learned the hard way throughout the years that it is necessary to keep up with my teammates, who keep Super Speed always on and rush through missions. Without it, everything in the last room of a mission is already dead before I get there. :\ I took Combat Jumping to keep my ranged defense soft-capped while Super Speeding through missions.

You seem to have posted the same build twice, btw.
Actually the second build should be a FF/Fire of similar design to the FF/Archery.

Edit: Crap. Not sure why it didn't export the FF/Fire rebuild properly. Will fix that.
  13. You're relying too much on Afterburner for defense. It's going to eat you alive.

Here's Bubbleshot the FF/Arch defender I use to hold center on Protector's Rush The Rikti ship raids. It takes lucky shots and an act of God to bring her down.

Right now you're grossly overslotting your defenses, which is detracting from your set slotting in other areas. You seem to want to have monster acc and recharge bonuses. Do you want to be a blaster with shields? Or a Defender who does steady, dependable amounts of damage without sucking their blue bar dry?

Also, you have five (5) travel travel powers.

Whaddya mean they won't sell you one?

You're saying the four vendors showing new copies of the collector's edition for $95 are out of stock?

Yet how many stories (especially early-level ones) are simply clicked through?

Outside of someone's (wasted) time writing dialog, what's the functional difference between an arc with a story nobody actually reads, and an arc with no story?

Also, exactly how non-shallow is "Hunt 10 Skulls"?

Secondly, the devs made the architect to be a place to supply supplemental content, that is stories for players to play along to when they did not feel like doing a dev arc again.
I find the attempt to narrow what constitutes "content" somewhat self-serving in this context. Not saying you're doing it in a dishonest fashion (you're not). Just that you're on the slippery slope here.

    Quote:
The devs have often mentioned their discomfort with accelerated progressions, particularly ones that bypass their desired progression speed and bypass content.
Like demon farms. Like BM farms. Like running high-but-"normal"-reward arcs with hyper-efficient teams.

    Quote:
Third, the above mentality to find the most streamlined rewards has often found means to create heightened rewards through bugs/loopholes or just in ways the devs did not intend, which gave far more rewards for far less danger. These were termed 'exploits,' and are seen as a threat to the devs.
I'll say this as often as it needs saying. If the devs didn't expect the people, who were already min-maxing builds and running numbers on most-profitable "native" arcs for any given task, to look for rewards optimization in AE, they were blind, crazy and/or stupid (well, I'll revise that to naive, but it essentially works out to the same thing). If they had no warning during initial creation of the system, they should have gotten a warning light when people asked for ways to create "custom" enemies. They essentially gave min-maxers the keys to Dad's McLaren F1.

I'm sure the above statement about the devs is going to hurt SOMEONE'S feelings. But I think that the devs, if they're brutally honest with themselves, would agree with at least the basic sentiment informing my statement.

EDIT: I just checked an icon that I know is over both filesize limits and dimension limits. It's still a huge filesize and it's still being scaled down. Apparently, they haven't set the forum software to enforce those limits, just as they haven't set the software to enforce the limits on Signature images. From what I'm told by moderators of other vBulletin sites I frequent, those can be enforced through vBulletin and/or simple vBulltin add-ons.
When you say you checked, are you checking things that are linked to the board PRE-DATING the new limits? Or are you checking images you're trying to add to the board and it's taking things beyond the limits?

Stuff that's already in the system may be "grandfathered" in without the use of addons. Simply because it ALREADY passed a previous check and the board likely doesn't check again.

There are some size limits in place now.
It may be that your new avatar is falling afoul of the size limit.
