And we see Cap eaten alive by special interest groups backing every other politician in the country.
"So what happened to that Rogers guy?"
"He had a meeting with Hoffa." -
Also, if you've got server transfers handy, Protector runs ship raids at 9PM Eastern on Wednesday nights. We meet up at Point Du Hoc and proceed to beat down from there. Average haul is usually between 700-1000 VMs.

Quote:Okay, I've been trying to be polite to people but this warrants a blunt response.Personally, Those years of computer science and hacking lessons from my brother aren't going to be wasted.
Speaking as someone who's spent decades in white-hat circles, as someone who's put people who've done dumb **** like this in federal prison, you REALLY don't wanna do that.
Even nowadays, they basically toss you into a room, lock you up, and throw away the room for a couple years before you even get NEAR a court. You then spend the next few years fighting in court against people who have INFINITELY more money than you (not just NCSoft, the US government).
Then you get to spend a few years having to have people make phonecalls for you, you can't even be in the same room as a computer, can't even hold a McJob because it involves access to computers and you effectively may as well be back in jail.
Also, any attempts to cash in on your fame are simply siphoned off as part of the damage award to your victims.
But, by all means, go ahead and flush your life.
Now, I know you may have intended this as a joke.
But it ain't funny. -
Quote:That's mostly what i plan to play. May or May not find any more that look good for PC.
Quote:Realistic? What's a Unrealistic Budget?
Quote:This is why i love CoH Community, you guys care.
Quote:Mainly for the fact of using current PC as just a browsing PC and a way to 'test' if i like a new game or not.
Quote:Ya bad habit on my part. I often use Lag even if its my side that's the problem. (Like low FPS)
Quote:No need to worry about Keyboard or mouse since i still have my old ones i can use for current PC while the 'new' ones go on new PC.
Quote:Would you say it's hard to build one for your 1st time? I'm normally a deconstructor (have a habit of taking things apart.) rather then a constructor. So trying to build something is intimidating to say the least but i'm willing to try.
If you want to go the "build it" route, I can give you my Skype address and help you through some of it.
Also, in my build list, if you happen to hate the case (I more or less just selected a semi-decent one), look around Newegg to find something you DO like.
If you're not sure about the size of a case, get a tape measure out and measure where you plan to put the computer too.
Some, the the stupid-high-end CoolerMaster Cosmos cases are positively HUUUUUUUUGE.
My case is pretty large. But I'm a fan of big cases. The Cosmos almost makes mine look like a mini-tower. -
All right! My team ran at +3x8 with 7 people. 4 fire/rads, a nature controller, a scrapper and a tank. We kinda did the gaggle-**** of scrappers (everyone goes their own way) method and it took us a bit longer. We pretty much HAD to run at LEAST +3. Anything else would have been a complete walk-over with that much AoE and debuff.
The Reichsman fight was an absolute joke though. He spent most of the fight choking. We basically concentrated on him and mostly ignored the other AVs. DeVore and Nemesis closed in and got cooked for their troubles. Gryfalcon and Crey were just short mop-ups after.

D'OH! And no screenshot! Dangit! Not even a demorecord!
I'm slippin' in my old age... -
Okay the Freedom Fire/Rads group is onboard. There should be at least 4 of us there.

Quote:Here's the Code box. Think that covers most of the things i need/looking at. If i forgot anything let me know.
1) What will you primarily be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing? etc
***
Mostly Gaming,
New C&C 17th Anni 'box' (Has most of the C&C Games)
Guild Wars 2.
Champaions Online.
Firefall.
Minecraft.
City of Heroes.
Okay. That's a fairly simple group of games to get a system together for.
Quote:2) What's your budget? (Real Dollars) Are tax and shipping included? This is important as it allows people trying to help you to suggest things appropriate to your budget.
***
About $800 to $1,500 at most.
Okay, a realistic budget.
Quote:3) Where do you live? This is important as it affects what vendors you may buy from and how much shipping costs might be.
***
East Cost, North Carolina, US
Okay. Nothing exotic for shipping.
Quote:4) Are you planning to buy or build?
***
Ether or. Getting to the point where i need to upgrade to even play any games on PC.
If Making going to need a lot of advice.
If Buying i'm looking at the Alienware X51(http://www.dell.com/us/p/alienware-x51/fs).
Honestly, don't waste your time or money on Alienware. They're essentially relabeled Dell boxes at a premium price. Labeled as "gaming" PCs becuase they have a discrete (but low-end) video card from a non-Intel manufacturer.
I can suggest a general parts list. Then if that seems intimidating, I can suggest something from iBuyPower or CyberPowerPC so you can see what buying vs building will be as a price premium.
Quote:5) What exact parts do you need for that budget? CPU, RAM, case, etc. The word "Everything" is not a valid answer. Please list out all the parts you'll need. If you're unsure what exactly you need, say so.
***
Unsure sadly.
6) If reusing any parts, what parts will you be reusing? Please be especially specific about the power supply. List make and model.
***
Don't think i'll be reusing.
If you're not reusing, you're pretty much building from scratch
Quote:7) Will you be overclocking?
***
Not Likely
Okay.
Quote:8) What size monitor do you have and/or plan to have?
***
Have 19in i think, may go for a 22in if it can fit in bugdet.
That's do-able.
Quote:9) When do you plan on building/buying the PC?
***
Soon as possable, aiming for Self X-Mas Gift.
Okay.
Quote:10) What features do you need in a motherboard? RAID? Firewire? Crossfire or SLI support? USB 3.0? SATA 6Gb/s? etc.
***
USBs at least (Keyboard,Mouse,Phone Charger, USB for files/links. So at least 4 if possable.)
Maybe SLI, if fits budget.
At $8-1200? No. SLI really isn't. But the good news is, even the "mid-range" cards will whup *** on pretty much every game in your list.
Quote:11) Any specific must-have features? Must be able to max out Ultra-Mode? Must have 6+GB of RAM? Must have an SSD? etc.
***
At least 4GB, able to play at Decent Grapihcs with next to no lag.
Okay. Probably looking at 8GB minimum. Decent graphics card. No problem.
"Lag" is a "catch all" phrase for a lot of people. Not all of them have anything to do with the graphics system.
Quote:12) Are there any vendors/brands you'd specifically prefer to use?
***
NVidia
]13) Are there any vendors/brands you'd specifically prefer to avoid?
***
No ATI/AMD.
Easy enough.
Quote:14) Do you already have a legit and reusable/transferable OS key/license? If yes, what OS? Is it 32bit or 64bit? (Note: If your current OS came with your computer, odds are that it is NOT transferable.)
***
Might, would have to check, Current is Windows 7, 32Bit. Which is better for Gaming, 32 or 62?
Here's a build option:
Case
PSU (Comes as a combo with the case)
Motherboard
Memory
CPU
Vidcard
OS Drive
Optical
OS
$1261.75 shipped.
Haven't included a keyboard or mouse.
Haven't included a huge 3rd party CPU heatsink. If you're not overclocking, I wouldn't worry too much about the default Intel HSF.
Found something comparable at CyberPowerPC (Link is the link)
Here's something comparable at iBuyPower (A bit more expensive, but the upgraded card is the 3GB model instead of the 2GB.)
The only thing this would be missing would be a large hard drive (either internal or external) for storage. -
Quote:The game itself will help.I'm looking over Hyperstrikes Guide, Talking to my Mother(Handles my money, can't trust me with it hehe.) and a Friend(Some Spec's/PC Info) on what i "need". I'll be post the
thing once i get all the info i need on a few things like my Budget and what some of the things i need to put down is. Ether i'll edit into this post later or make a 2nd post.
Would it help any if i post What game i will be using the PC for? Almost thinking of post current PC Specs just to see how badly i need a upgrade*.
*Current PC plays CoH (Near low Graphics) fine but any other MMO i try my FPS takes a dive.
But anything relatively modern should run most of these games okay so long as you're not trying to do a $500 PC and expecting to run at 2560x1440 at max detail.
So dish out as much info as you can. It'll help tune in to something suitable for you more easily. -
Quote:I wouldn't agree with much of what you've said here bud.
I know you're trying to lighten the mood, a bit of brevity goes a long way and I get where you're coming from but if you really are angry/upset/annoyed and feel the need to vent, then here is probably the best place on the planet to do exactly that.
Get it out of your system amongst people who understand you, who get it, who sympathize (sometimes) and who share that pain. That's part of the grieving process, and you know, it's perfectly ok for people to do that if it works for them.
I'd argue it's FAR BETTER doing it here, in a relatively safe environment amongst your peers and colleagues than to rant elsewhere where one might be in danger of sounding a tad strange.
How unhelpful is it really gonna be? If NCSoft are monitoring these boards, then that's great - and they will see the strength of the ire against them. But I'd frankly be amazed if they are so it's behind closed doors.
Let the anger out and then get on with being productive. Hindering that process is only going to make things worse
Again. I'm not saying you're not allowed to vent.
If you absolutely GOTTA, go ahead.
If you get some sort of catharsis out of it, fine. More power to you.
I'm simply saying that, if saving the game (in some form) is your ultimate goal, then it's not helping anything. -
-
Quote:Not saying you can't.QR
Anger, hurt and pain are all understandable and justifiable reactions to the way NCSoft has gone about "refocusing" it's business objectives at our expense.
If we cannot express those emotions here, on the official boards of the game we love so much, what does it really say about our community?
Just asking.
Honestly, I have exactly zero power to make people STFU, short of finding out where you live and focusing the killsat.
I'm just asking, as civilly as possible, to try and stay positive about our situation.
However, if you quite simply can't stand to not go up in a ball of nuclear fire, again, I can't stop you. I'm simply saying that it's not productive at this time.
Understandable? Sure! The abrupt nature of this is aggravating as hell. Especially when we've had so much open communication from Paragon in the past.
But hulking out (verbally or physically) and finding the nearest NCSoft exec to play "Puny God" with, while emotionally gratifying, isn't productive or helpful. -
Quote:Not long. But planning what they're going to do for refunds or credits can take time. And going off half-cocked and announcing partial plans can just get them in more trouble. How long does it take to figure "we aren't offering the service people paid for so we need to refund them the money for the time we aren't giving them"?
Again, a company isn't one guy on the internet twitting every half-hour. Information coming out from large companies that aren't "media" or "news" companies is going to always be (comparatively) slow in coming.
Why do you think NCSoft, AFTER the closure announcement started pimping the upcoming i24 on their website? Because stuff like that was pre-scripted weeks or months ago and inserted with a trigger date. -
Hmm. Might see if my Fire/Rad group wants to fill out your roster.

Quote:So, I've decided I want a new computer....and while I usually build my own I haven't done that for a few computers now.
My requirements are pretty straight forward
At least an intel i5.
At least an Nvidia 670
At least 8-10 GB of RAM
I've hit the big box retailer in the area (best buy) and a smaller shop (micro center) and it seems like no one is selling big pc's at the brick and mortar store. Most try to scrimp and put an nvidia 640 in the case, which is a good video card, but its not a 'true' gaming card.
Has buying a gaming pc always been this hard to find at retail?
Also, is the 640 comparable to the 670?
Is this a first world problem or what?
That'll help give us an idea about what to suggest to you.
As to your questions:
1: The industry's idea of a "gaming PC" an gamers ideas of what a "gaming PC" are have always borne almost NO resemblance to one another other than "they're computers".
2: A 640 isn't comparable to a 670. A 640 is essentially an entry-level card. It's better than native i5/i7 on-chip graphics, but a 670 will suck the doors off it. For people playing Farmville and Solitaire, there's no difference. For people playing Arkham City, and newer, high-detail games, it's the difference between minimum settings and near-maximum settings.
3: Pretty much. I'm sure goatherds in Albania have more realistic things to worry about than the fact that their PC (should they have one at all) isn't getting 120fps in Battlefield 3. -
I hate to come off as a heckler. But this needs saying.
No. No you haven't been "patient". It's been two weeks. This is the blink of an eye.
Multi-million dollar companies quite simply do NOT move this rapidly.
Nor do many of them directly engage in extensive social media campaigns.
It only seems like a long time because the Internet is so good at supplying instant gratification for informational and recreational purposes. People so used to this "now" culture have a skewed outlook that anything that doesn't happen within the framework of the Internet Attention Span is a mark of apathy or lack of care/respect.
It's nothing of the sort. -
No. The economic realities of the game are what killed it.
Had Paragon been located in an area where cost of living and doing business wasn't positively stratospheric, the revenue-vs-profit outlook wouldn't have looked so bad.
Again, simple economics killed the game. NCSoft is just the one getting **** for making the tough decision to pull the plug on life support.
Personally, I'd think they should have given their business strategy a full year to pan out. But, with everything else going on, they were probably under pressure to "trim the fat". -

Still hoping the mods will nuke this thread for me--I don't think it's helping, which means I wasn't helping by creating it.
But if you see this, Winterminal--thanks. Exactly the swift kick in perspective that I needed.
Something else to cogitate on.
Internet Attention Span. (Or more correctly Internet Attention Deficit Disorder.)
Due to the more or less instantaneous gratification provided by the Internet for various information and entertainment outlets, there's some expectation of rapid response from corporate entities to various social pushes.
Large, multi-million dollar corporations are amongst the slowest animals on the planet. Due to legal concerns, ongoing business negotiations, and the simple need for standard business continuity (coming in to work and getting all the busy-work done) it can take some companies astoundingly long times to actually respond to things unless they have a lawyer, a process server, or a police officer there. -
Quote:Well, technically it does.I respectively disagree with his assertion that our closure would hurt NCSoft in either the short or long term.
- All the severance packages.
- Unemployment
- Discharge of any existing debts
- Miscellaneous costs associated with the shutdown
- Legal fees
Quote:We are a very small segment of even the NA MMO gamer population.
quote]The vow to never buy another NCSoft title is hardly a monolithic stance among us.
True, but in my business classes I was always taught that an angry/disgruntled customer could influence a minimum of seven other people not to deal with my business. Shrugging off what could, potentially be tens or hundreds of thousands of sales...
Quote:Most MMO gamers realize that MMOs close, although true not as many that have been around for as long as CoH. While our organized efforts have been well publicized by MMO news sites, the shear amount of daily news quickly scrolls us off the front page. By default:
/screenshotui 0
This takes screenshots without the GUI.
If you want screenshots with the GUI do:
/screenshotui 1
After that, until you restart the game (or log off the toon, I'm not sure which), all your screenshots will include the GUI. -

Quote:This never happened. As has been pointed out, it's a false correlation. B&S has been coming to the states for a while.Eh, I think people are slightly justifiably edgy after it was revealed that the reason CoH got the ax was because of Blade & Soul coming States-side.
Quote:Really? What does "realign focus and publishing support" mean in Santa Elf-ese, then? Seriously, the correlation of the B&S announcement following the axing of CoH with their "realign" language is obvious.
Quote:
Quote:Let me put this slowly.
1. NCSoft abruptly axes CoH and Paragon Studios
2. Explains decision as "realignment" of "publishing support."
3. Two weeks later, B&S announcement.
So let's see, we passed the appearance, the swimming, and the quacking. It's official, this duck is a duck.
There are myriad reasons CoH was given the "Old Yeller". Ascribing it to any singular cause (as you are doing) is simply scapegoating.
Quote:You're ascribing too much competency to these people, which is your problem. This is a company that managed to lose $6B because of overspending on the two Korean grinders we're speaking of.
This is not only a duck, but it's a mentally deficient duck.
It isn't that simple. And the people at NCSoft aren't stupid.
And please get your numbers right. NCSoft lost six MILLION, not six BILLION. In a volatile market like theirs, with numerous obvious and non-obvious triggers for spending (as well as various mergers and acquisitions happening), this can happen to even the smartest businessmen.
One quarter is a painful smack in the face for them. But watch what happens over the next couple quarters before you declare their business strategy "dumb" or "deficient".
Thank you for your concern. I won't be responding to this thread in the future.
