Okay what, exactly, are you planning to do with this build?
You're rocking 13% defense and atrocious resists.
Sure, your damage might be stellar, but you can't stay up long enough for it to make a difference without chugging skittles by the bagful.
A couple changes can bump your defense into the 30's. At that point you really can stop relying on popping Unstoppable. Moreover, your recharge only falls off a little.
What I also worry about is that, while your resting endurance use is low, most of your attacks have minimal endurance reduction on them.
With a rebuild, you may not kill stuff as fast. But how fast do you kill stuff when you're too busy smootching floor? -
Agreed.
As The_Spad_EU listed them pretty much as they occur.
The first two I don't mind.
The last three are indicators of broken mission design or parameters.
If I'm supposed to talk to someone, and you REALLY want me to read the dialog, DON'T DROP AMBUSHES ON MY ****ING HEAD!
It's annoying in some places in the game. But a lot of the new First Ward stuff is EGREGIOUSLY bad about this.
I'd like to add one more.
The Endless Ambush.
The graveyard mission from Blind Makwa is a an example of this one. Basically the ambushes keep coming and coming and coming.
These are people in their low to mid 20's here guys! While most will now have Stamina slotted well and decent use of EndRed in attacks, some of these missions have ZERO time to rest.
So now we are getting missions where it's ideal to simply eat some purples and sprint through the mission and boss-kill at the end (like several of the Roy Cooling missions).
Fail. -
Yeah, some people want simple tomes of rules with minimal flash. Others want lush production values. They don't have to produce as much actual material and can sell the books for more with all the flash and glitz. Guess which way it's going to go...

Can you provide the HijackThis and CoH Helper logs for us?
(See the "Help Me!" link in my sig.)
Doing a bit of research on the 80070005.
One of the errors I came across was a machine running Vista via upgrade when the system wasn't Vista compatible.
Another instance was tied to AIM.
If you can get the logs I asked for, it might help us figure out what's going on in your system. -
-
You can try going in with safe mode. But there's no guarantees. If you can get in with safe mode, try bumping the settings up a little at a time. This may help you get settings that work for you. Warning, safe mode is BUTT UGLY.
- Open up the NCSoft Launcher
- Right-click on the City of Heroes launch button and select Properties.
- On the screen that comes up, check the "Safe Mode" box and click OK.
- Launch the game.
The next time you launch the NCSoft launcher, take the same first two steps, then UNCHECK Safe Mode. Otherwise you would have to fix your resolution and everything every time.
If you can actually get it to run without bombing out, I'd recommend putting an extra gig of memory in the thing (as per earlier advice). It really will make a huge difference in playability. -
Quote:Heya Av. Can you provide your CoH Helper and HijackThis logs (See the "Help Me!" link in my sig)?Logged in as usual, figured I'd look at grabbing Beam Rifle finally, clicked the store button and was greeted with a blank grey area where everything should be. This is repeated across all characters and does not go away after completely closing and restarting the client (I've done that around five separate times today, still grey after logging back in).
Support are being frustrating asking the usual Mickey Mouse questions before replying to my email (which in turn is a reply to theirs, sent to the exact same address I'm replying from) and saying they're not accepting the ticket update as it came from an address not registered to my account (basically they can't tell that gmail/googlemail are interchangeable).
So does anyone have any ideas? I've even tried checking the client integrity through the launcher suspecting maybe something had gone wrong with an update, no dice.
Image of what I'm getting:

Uploaded with ImageShack.us
This way it'll help us rule out any sort of client-side issue. -
Okay, first:
You're on an old Intel integrated graphics accelerator.
Even back in the day these were NOT recommended graphics for the game. That they worked at all is lucky happenstance.
You're also on the latest driver version put out by Dell.
Intel has a slightly (only slightly) newer one that may work for you. No guarantees.
Second:
You're on a laptop with 512MB of RAM (100 of which is being eaten by the graphics accelerator).
You may want to try chucking more memory in. Currently your system has one 256MB module that is swappable. And it also has one 256MB module that is NOT swappable. And you can max out at 1.25GB of memory.
Follow this link if you want to try adding more memory. Your system, in general, should be happier with you. Cost: $35 shipped.
Also, you've not updated your Windows (you're still on SP2). You want to apply all available Windows updates if you can. You want all the stuff under:
- High Priority
- Optional
Note: You're GOING to need to make multiple passes at Windows Updates before you're completely up to date.
Also, afterward, you'll want to clean out the Windows directory of the Updates Uninstall Archives afterward.
- Open the file browser
- Go to C:\Windows
- Click on Tools --> Folder Options
- Click on the View tab
- Check "Show hidden files and folder"
- Uncheck "Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)"
- Click OK.

You can delete all the $NTUninstall******** folders.
Don't delete $hf_mig$.
This can free up exceptional amounts of space.
Also, I'd recommend letting the machine defrag overnight after doing the updates and getting rid of the uninstall files.
Your audio drivers are also old as hell, but they're the latest from Dell. And, likely, you won't be able to find newer.
Now, when we get down to the bottom of it. There are a few things here (as I've listed) that may allow you to play the game. But, you're trying to get it to work on a platform that's not supported by the manufacturer anymore. As such, the platform meets BARE minimum requirements for ability to run the game, and the drivers are 4-6 years out of date, which can cause massive compatibility problems.
There exists the possibility that you simply are NOT going to be able to play the game on your current system.
Sorry if this is a let-down. But I figure you'd rather have someone tell you this up-front than going ahead and making you jump through a bunch of hoops and then telling you "guess you're boned". -
D&D The STFU and just give us more money edition!

How would something like this suit you?
It's a mutation of my current build, with less emphasis on defense.
Still excellent defenses, but more recharge-oriented.

Quote:Okay I'm going to point this out bluntly. So it may (hell, probably will) offend you.Current society tends to redefine what would have been considered 'evil' in a previous century as 'sociopathy' or 'psychopathy'.
You're playing a game where you're going out beating, shooting, burning, freezing, stabbing, slicing, exploding, zapping, tossing, and otherwise causing massive physical harm to people who do not comply with your choice of morality AS A LIFESTYLE CHOICE.
There's a little core of this stuff in all of us. Everyone.
Removing it makes us something else. Maybe better, likely worse.
If the motive is to turn everyone into bland, risk-free sheeple "for the greater good", I'll be happy to demonstrate REAL sociopathy.
Essentially something like this is a way to excuse behavior of a sort. To remove blame. It also arises from the "take a pill for that" mentality so prevalent nowadays.
Own up to the fact that we're still a savage, ignorant child-race (with nukes) and try to make yourself better the RIGHT way. THE HARD WAY.
Conscious decision to do so. -
We're eventually going to wind up with this.
I'm sorry. First or Second edition or GTFO. -
Quote:Honestly, I dunno. You can do decent damage on a defense-capped build. Sure, you can augment it with procs and the like but it doesn't get that much better.I love my INV/SS tanker, but soloing is a PITA big time! I was wondering if anybody had a build that maxes DPS over defense?
1. Keep CJ/SJ, cause I suck so bad a flying i get stuck in trees and buildings alot :P
2. Keep def around 32.5 so i can pop a small luck if need be.
3. Since this is an alt build on an alt toon, I want to keep it around/below 300-400 mill inf if thats possible.
Otherwise i just want to start playing this toon again W/O the boredom of slow tank dps.
Thanks
Then there's also the problem.
How much DPS do you do when you're dead on the floor because it was too tough? -
Quote:Also, if you're able to, can go head to this thread (just click on the image)?hi im new to CoH and im having trouble getting into Atlas Park. I just started and im a bit frustrated because i want to play so badly. it keeps freezes in the middle of loading Atlas park. I waited a long time until all for stages was done downloading so i can play the whole game but still no changes. i tried everything i don't hat to do. if anyone can help plzzzzzzzz do so. thank u
P.S: im not a really good with computer language

Follow the instructions and paste the results back in this (your own) thread?
This will give us more information that we can use to help troubleshoot your issue. There's even a video walk-through if you need it.
Oh. And welcome to the game (even if you're having a heck of a time getting INTO it right now). -
Quote:Yes. But the bubbler I regularly bring to ship raids is actually THE first lowbie I ever snuck into the RWZ with the Mission TP bug. You could kinda say she's never left (she HAS, but her primary play times are during Protector's RTR events). The reasons why I limit my Rikti mothership raids to level 35+ toons:
1. Rikti mothership raids were originally designed for level 35+ toons, as the Rikti War Zone was originally level locked to 35+ toons. IMO, it was a mistake by Paragon Studios to remove that level lock, but I digress.
No, it is the PRIMARY point of it. Others include:Quote:2. You have to be level 35+ to obtain Vanguard merits, which is the whole point of Rikti mothership raids to begin with.
- The exploration badge in the bowl. Yes, they COULD just zerg-rush it. But that means they're taking up a spot in the zone that a full raider could be using. Why not raid too?
- Badge credits (bombs, Ukon, etc)
- XP
- Merits
- Being around 20-50 other people hell-bent on kicking some alien ***.
Still, if they're willing to contribute ANYTHING, and they're not taking a spot in the zone that could be better utilized by someone else trying to get in. So what?Quote:3. You're not going to contribute a whole lot, if anything at all, at level 15 or 20. In fact, you could be potentially taking a spot from a level 35+ player that would contribute to the raid's success, since the RWZ is capped at 50 people.
Again, so what? As long as you set some basic ground rules (no "all level 15 raids", etc), and other common sense precautions, there shouldn't be an issue.Quote:4. If I make an exception for one person to bring a lowbie, that opens a Pandora's Box. If I allow Joe Schmoe to bring a level 20 Brute, why should I not allow Tim Schmoe to bring a level 20 Controller? Then Jane Schmoe to bring a level 15 Tanker? Etc.
Remember, the raids FAIL if you try to shave it too close.
How exactly are you going to force a team harboring their own lowbies to leave?Quote:Regardless, my stance is not going to change. Anyone is welcome at my mothership raids, provided they are on a level 35+ toon. If they do not like that, they are free to lead a Rikti mothership raid of their own. -
Quote:Yep. More of the "We've heard you. It's a bad idea. We're gonna do it anyhow." we've been getting from them. They at first wanted to consolidate the AT forums, and this seems to be a holdover from that thinking.
Apparently they DON'T make sense to someone who just joined the game today, barely understands how to log in, and isn't even aware the forums are here.Quote:I do not get it at all, as the current AT divisions make SENSE.
Oh. And Zwillinger.
This goes back to something I'd talked about when the whole "merge the AT forums" talk came up. At that point, they're relying on their end-users to segregate by formatting.Quote:Consolidating just makes the forums more complicated, as you suddenly have an all melee forum with tons of difference ideas and approaches (which all the ATs really do represent). Same thing with the build forum. I do hope they get rid of it as well.
NEVER
GOING
TO
HAPPEN
This was tried on USENET. And has been tried at some point on nearly EVERY board, blog, etc, etc. It never works.

Quote:Yup. Clarion helps with the *Mezzed* OW OW *DEAD!* issues. Both Judgement and the Clarion Incarnate powers help tremendously during Rikti mothership raids. Rebirth and Barrier do as well, to a lesser extent.
Rebirth helps keep regen up in the cases you DO get hit, so the green monster in the bowl doesn't have to work so hard.
And Barrier helps decrease the reliance on bubblers (though retaining a bubbler or two for center duty is STILL a nice thing).
Definitely. Having SOME lowbies in there won't really hurt the raid. But having teams with an L50 captain and all lowbies is a recipe for no VMs.Quote:I know I've received some flack over this, but I think my limiting my Rikti mothership raids to level 35+ toons is a factor in our success as well. -

Gotta love how even the devs have fallen into the Defenders = H3@L0RZ trap...

WP is a nice, fairly balanced "set and forget" set.
It's a combination of medium levels of defense and resistance with high levels of regeneration. The combination is more than the sum of its parts, leading people to refer to WP as "easy mode". When fully IO'ed up, it's a phenomenally hard-to-kill set, though occasional damage spikes WILL reintroduce you to the floor every now and again.
After level 21 or so, if you're running out of endurance, you're doing it wrong. -
Well, for Beam Rifle, the cone is actually fairly well marked (you get a beam-sweep describing the entire arc). That right there makes it slightly more visible (and therefore useful) than some of the cone attacks in other sets.
-
On my main, I can fight at a steady pace that doesn't require button mashing and still gets the job done. HOWEVER, he still has the ability to have me mash buttons like a crack-addled console gamer. This kills stuff quicker but is harder on my end bar. If, in a fight I start noticing my blue bar dipping below 50%, I'll pop CP and start beating face like there's no tomorrow. I usually end up with my end bar someplace between 75 and 100 percent full by the time CP drops.
