You really want most of your armors coming in earlier than this unless you're playing at 50 all the time and NEVER exemp.
Maybe something like this:

Quote:No. I'm merely saying that some people choose to believe all sorts of weird things and disbelieve all sorts of rational ones. Just because you choose to disbelieve something that's real doesn't make it any less so.Taking context into account, I am guessing you meant this as a less-than-obvious insult as to my sanity. If not, then take it a clue as to why people do not find these forums/this community all that friendly.
As for "friendly". You aren't required to "like" what I say, if it is any consolation. On the upside of that, you know I'm not going to get all mealy-mouthed and fawning over you just in the hopes that you'll "like" me. So I'm at least shooting straight with you.
I can post evidence all day about this if you really want.Quote:Besides, you post that as if you have definitive proof that they don't.
But are you going into it with an open mind or are you merely playing this game?

If you think that the moon landing was faked, go talk to one of the astronauts who have actually been there.Quote:Next you will be trying to claim there is zero chance the Fort Knox vault is empty, or that there is zero chance that the moon landing footage was faked. -
I second Father's advice.
If you're reusing your PSU and case, that's probably your best bet right there.
All the items are currently available but the memory. ~$50 will get you 8GB.
So for about $575 shipped you'll get everything you need, including the OS.
And kudos for giving us all the information up front! -
Quote:If you exit the game without completing out the mission/TF, the game continues to log time. Thanks for the guide, TopDoc. Through very casual playing, I got my CEBR to 50 yesterday. I had planned on reporting how long it took me, but when I talked to a citizen, they told me it was 540 hours, which can't be right. I'd guess closer to 10-15, with about half of that in missions and the other half rolling tickets, goofing off at the market, or messing with my newly formed solo base.
Depends on if you have enough vet access for (or have purchased) AE.Quote:Does anyone else have any experience with Premium CEBR?

Some people find it hard to believe that the government isn't secretly harboring aliens too.Quote:I find it hard to believe.
There IS a standard for DirectX. Whatever Microsoft happens to be telling them at the moment.Quote:While not OpenGL related, I find it educational to watch both brands scurry to write Beta drivers that work with brand new games every year. If there was an actual DirectX standard (that even game developers followed) you would think the driver writers would be on top of such things.
Then you'd be mistaken.Quote:I find it unlikely there is actually a clear standard for all parties to follow. -
Quote:I've seen a couple images here of CoH eating 3+ GB.Unless it's changed, Co* takes up about 2G tops that I've ever seen... of course, I'll be the first to admit, I've not done a check in a while, maybe it's more. It's mostly about 1.5G that I've seen. I don't think adding memory will solve anything, unless the problem is you're running Co*, and 14 other programs, and are bumping up against the memory due to that.
The most I've ever seen on my own personal machine is about 1.7GB. -
Quote:Actually it may be more helpful than you think.Yea, you are going to need 64-bit Win 7 to use more memory. More memory may help but probably not as much as you would think.
We've had some instances of people on loaded-down 32-bit machines crashing into the upper limits of 32-bit application space with the CoH client lately.
So more memory, while not a performance booster, will help buffer against crashing due to OOM errors. -
Quote:hey all, computer setup question for you all. My current rig will turn three come december, and i'm wondering what my best options are to extend its life for another three years (assuming all its parts behave), since that's how long i'm trying to go between computer upgrades (can't really afford more often).

Also, a CoH Helper dump of your current system would help us make intelligent suggestions about what can or cannot be upgraded. -
Quote:It's a back door on a tugboat. If you start at the exploration badge marker by the Hero Corps guy (where you can change difficulty), head north under the bridge, and turn right almost immediately after.Probably a dumb question here, but can anyone tell me how to enter the mission for the Who will Die? story arc for Blind Faith/Part 2: Hidden Depths? I go to where the compass tells me the entrance is, but it's not there, and I can't find it. Have looked below, but can't find it there either. Thanks for any help in this.
The Rulu-shin mob is standing up the hill from your entry point. They're in front of a mausoleum.
Once you defeat them, go into the mausoleum through the door on the left side. You'll have a ramp down through a broken grave into the caves below. -
Quote:Paragon's place of business is "the Internet". Their physical POPs are in California with servers in Texas.
Also I just want to say, as a midwesterner, I get so sick and tired of all the "Why aren't you coming to my back yard?" wank every time you guys announce that you're going somewhere or hosting something. It only makes sense that this would be hosted where Paragon Studios does business, and that happens to be northern California.
My company's physical POP is Seattle and our distribution point is in Atlanta. Yet we make two-to-three midwest cons a year.
All the employees? No. Simply enough to run the booth in shifts. It's not as if they're like one of the T-Shirt cubes with hundreds of shirts and needing half a dozen people in the booth every minute.Quote:I can't believe the audacity it takes to think it's reasonable or even fair for Paragon Studios to ship all of their employees, equipment, and swag (and Hero Con had the nicest swag) to some out of the way place because one person can't be bothered to save up for a plane ticket (granted this time there isn't time to save up, but this applies to other times as well).
If they're REALLY worried about the economics of drayage, I can put them in touch with someone who can help them seriously economize.
Nah. My apartment is a pig sty. But if they showed up at a con in the midwest region, I'd be on that like flies on poop.Quote:I'm starting to think that people will only be happy when you come to each of our homes personally, sit at our kitchen tables, and tell us what you're going to do with the game. -

Quote:Okay,Last time I needed a new computer, I posted on the forums asking what people thought was the best value out there for a laptop that can play COH. I got great advice back then and I'm hoping to do so again.
So I'm looking to get a new computer as my current one has just been bugy. COH is pretty much the most demanding thing I use my computer for. Although I do use it for other entertainment things like music, DVDs and Netflix - each of these less demanding than COH.
So, if you had to build a new PC that was primarily for COH (with ultra mode), which laptop would you get?
Just FYI: for COH ultra mode:
Windows 7
Intel or AMD Dual core processor or higher
4GB Ram+
NVIDIA GeForce *+ or ATI Radion HD 2000+
Any suggestions?
Head over here:
Then post the results in a new thread in the Gameplay/Technical Issues & Bugs forum. -
Quote:Quite the reverse. It has to do with the drivers and their compatibility with the game and the OpenGL standards.it does have to do with the game and its combatibility with ati cards. so infact it is an issue.
The fact that the 10.9's rectified so many issues with the game only reinforces the point. -
Quote:This doesn't help. Something like a CoH Helper and Hijack This log will give us a better notion as to how your system's built and what's running.I been getting this allot durren game play.
it will freeze and crash every day I play the game.
some times 15 minutes play time or more.
I built my own pc I have windows 7 ultimate.
motherboard asus quad core amd 3.20ghz
ram 12gb video card 1gb hard drives 2 x for now, 1.5tb each.
internet cable timewarner turbo.
have all drives and windows updated.
Head to this link
.
Follow the directions there, and start a help request post in the Gameplay & Technical Issues forum. Posting it in the beta forums doesn't help any, as it's out of the way and since i21 has already dropped, not checked as frequently.
One has little to do with the other. Being a technician doesn't necessarily imply that you've got the ability to "fix" things in program code of closed-source applications (like the game, or ATI's drivers).Quote:I been a pc tech for over 20 years now.
and so far this the only game that bothers me with the freezing and crashing.
But these games aren't equivalent. DAoC is a DirectX/D3D game. City of Heroes is an OpenGL game. They don't stress your system or the drivers in the same way at all.Quote:I played age of conan which is a more high end graphics game and more things to it then city of heroes can come close too !
Likely this is a driver issue.Quote:but this game freeze and crash every dang day i play it !
This is making the assumption that this is an issue with the game itself. This may not be the case. And if it's a driver issue, the people at Paragon can't do anything except continue communicating with the driver manufacturers until the issue is fixed.Quote:there is coding error in this game and it needs to be fix asap.
Ever occur to you that it might be because they're running into similar issues because they're running similar platforms or hardware choices or drivers?Quote:and I talked with other gamers who play this game too.
and they have the same stupid issue I do with it.
Likely it's not the computer hardware itself. However, that doesn't preclude a driver issue.Quote:so its not our computers that has the errors or the cause for it to freeze up.
Maybe. Maybe not. If it's a driver issue, or a fault in OpenGL itself, then it's not the game's coding.Quote:its in the games coding it self !
Spoken as someone who's never actually put out a large and complex software product before. Let alone one that's been iterated, extensively, over a 7-10 year period.Quote:the programmers of this game should take it back to the drawing board and find the major error and recode the dang thing.
Oh yes. Very macho of you.Quote:and I been in to programing my self for a few years and if I have to use my tools to find the error in the game my self and slap in the coders face I will.
What kind of hubris leads you to believe that they're "skipping" this? Or even that it is an issue within their control?Quote:cause this just plain stupid for them to skip this major error.
I understand you're upset with how unstable the game appears to be now. So I'm just going to let this slide. Provide us with the information I asked for above and maybe we can figure out a way to stabilize your gameplay.Quote:no wonder the game went free to play lol.
And you know this how?Quote:allot of the gamers left cause of this major issue !
Because it DOESN'T crash constantly for a good chunk of us. And when it does, there's an error report box that comes up and shoots a notification back to Paragon about the crash. You even get to tell them what you were doing when it crashed.Quote:who in their right minds want to play a game that's gonna constantly freeze up and crash without any error message.
That's the first thing you've said that I can agree with.Quote:this just annoying as hell.
No. Don't simply sit back and say "I have a problem. Fix it."Quote:since I am new to the game I let right for tops 1 month till they get off their butts and repair the problem.
That's the lazy cop-out.
Provide us with the info I requested and we can at least give you a better idea if it is a driver issue, a systems issue, or a genuine issue with the game itself.
This type of attitude gets you nowhere. Nobody's impressed by it. It helps nothing. Please allow us to assist you, but drop the 'tude.Quote:if not I'll cancel my VIP access and my account for the entire game !!
cause there's always better games then this out there to play even for free full access. -
Quote:Comic fans are seeing this with the DC "new 52" stuff now.One serious thing that I meant to mention is that 2nd Edition (and some 1st Edition, beyond the DM's Guide... Unearthed Arcana, Oriental Adventures - to name two) had sooooo many resources (especially for the Forgotten Realms).
Dropping that stuff for a new edition just was not an option for some of us with the bookshelves stacked with resource after resource after resource!
Sure, you can convert it... but, it wasn't broken, so we didn't need to fix it (not with their new books, at least).
I think the new spell names irked me the most.
I don't even care if they were better spell names for some of them... Some of us long-timers are just not going to relearn new spell names for ones we've been reading, using, saying for so many years.
Out with the old, I guess!

Quote:Well let's face it. TSR was essentially bought by a collectible card company. Churn and burn is all they know.On one hand I'm glad D&D didn't come to an end when TSR died. On the other hand I haven't played a newer version of the game since TSR died. We gave up at 3rd Edition the way you stopped at 4th Edition. *shrugs*
That being said it's interesting they're actually pumping out new versions (and sub-versions) every few years. That's pretty much what we expected them to do with it to maximize profits. I figure the lines between PnP and MMO will keep blurring until D&D basically becomes like a specialized version of Second Life. Not sure if that's completely good or bad, but it does seem to be its destiny. -
One other thing.
Are you looking for a leveling build or a final build?
Leveling builds tend to be less optimized because it's getting constructed as one goes along. So all the slots aren't necessarily there. But it DOES get used.
Final builds are usually done close to, or at L50 via respec, once most or all slots are available. These tend to be more specialized builds, but they're not something you necessarily want to level up while piecing together. -
You've been watching this again. Haven't you?

Quote:Wherever you feel comfortable that the raid can still succeed.Sure you could make a few exceptions but the problem is where do you draw the line without pissing people off?
On Protector, we've had weeks where, even though we had a minimum number of people the raid was called for that week. And others, with a slightly different cast of characters have gone on a small-teams *** kicking campaign.
It's nobody's business whom a team captain allows on their team.Quote:"So and so is on a lvl 15 i want to bring mine too" Next thing you know you have a bunch of people upset because they didn't get to bring theirs lowbie.
It's also nobody's business who a raid leader allows in their raid.
Can there still be some flexibility in there? Sure. It's not an "all or nothing" proposition. -
Sorry to make you post all that crap.
What I was looking for is actually right up front.

You're on the old 266.58 drivers.
OLD.
You want a newer version. Not sure if you're loading localized drivers or the US WHQLs. If the US version, click here to get the latest 280.26 drivers.
If not, go here and download the appropriate version.
This is a very good candidate for why you're crashing. You could be running into something that's just plain unstable (or outright doesn't work) on the older driver set.
Let me know if that helps. *Crosses Fingers* -
Quote:Funny how people get upset at ambushes but aren't the least bit bothered by being able to lay the smack down on some baddies within plain sight of other bad guys and they never sound an alarm.
NPCs can be set to auto-aggro and follow.
Players AFK can't due to botting restrictions.
Multiple waves of NPCs have a greater aggregate Endurance and Health pool than any PC.
NPCs don't take bio breaks.
Players do.
And it's not that people are upset by ambushes. Merely that they feel that, currently, the ambush mechanic is overused both within individual missions and across the current spectrum of new mission arcs.
After a while it becomes almost as aggravatingly repetitive, time-wasting, and mind-numbing as the Numina hunts. -
First off, you're on Vista SP1. It's possible that this is contributing to the issue.
You want to go in and apply the *heck* out of available Windows Updates. Basically anything but drivers, unless you have an app that SPECIFICALLY will not work with newer patches.
We may be able to get the info we need about drivers and the like by just directly accessing DxDiag.
Open up a command prompt and type in "dxdiag" (without the " ").
If things are working right, you should get a multi-tabbed screen that comes up. At the bottom there's a button to save all the information to a text file.
You can then paste the contents of that text file here.
Did notice this:
O23 - Service: Remote Packet Capture Protocol v.0 (experimental) (rpcapd) - CACE Technologies, Inc. - C:\Program Files\WinPcap\rpcapd.exe
Honestly, unless you're doing packet capture and other network profiling with this machine, this is possibly a keylogger. It COULD be legitimate, as some network tools will install this, but I don't know enough about your system and usage. -
Quote:YEP!Ugh. /agreed.
Just did that one last night - I'm assuming it's the "set up four spirit wards" one.
That and the fact that the map's confines are fairly small up front. It's not quite a corridor mission, but darned close. And the spawn points for the ambushes are close as well.Quote:There are two details that make that mission *even more* irritating:
1. The ambushes don't seem to trigger on the defeat of the spirits, but the defeat of the last *host* in a group - and they die quickly, so the ambush shows up while you're still fighting the group, and
2. The "helper" NPCs... with aggro range of about twenty miles. I could have finished that mission in a tenth of the time if not for them aggroing a secondary group (and triggering more ambushes) somewhere way behind or off to the side of me instead of sticking WITH me. Two words - Defensive Follow.
After suffering and suffering with various ambush missions, I just cranked difficulty down to x0 and tank-stealthed the missions.
Which is too bad. The missions are fairly well written. But the structure of the missions severely detracts from the writing. -
Quote:I vote we find who deigned to put in this many ambushes, and find where they live.
See if they appreciate them so much then ¬¬
Yes, /signed. From time to time WHEN THEY MAKE SENSE, sure. I can deal with that. But I get sick of the damn things when they are near constant.
*Cue Aeon creeping back down into a deep dark hole someplace*
