Quote:Okay, her system SHOULD have a file called HOSTS on it. Essentially the first place the OS checks for websites BEFORE going out to DNS is the HOSTS file.Yeah, all her restore points are gone. She is freaking out because of all her school work is on the system.
I really REALLY hope she didn't need to do a factory restore.
She installed spybot 1.6 and found like 20 Trojans so I hope HOPE! that is was that causing the issue.
@ SeedyXX: Yeah I can't stand norton either. She did find a bunch of viruses so I hope that was the issue. I'll try the fix you mentioned.
@Hyperstrike: I'm not really sure what you mean. If you are asking if she checked if Spybot blocks CoH then no, she didn't. And she uninstalled Spybot before we were able to use the repair ability.
I just really need to get her system up and running fast, and without a full wipe.
So, one way to block "bad" sites is to add them to the HOSTS file and have them point to your local machine.
This way if a site tries to direct you to http://www.crappymalwareinstallersite.com, it checks the HOSTS file, sees that there's a rule saying "Look for crappymalwareinstallersite.com at 127.0.0.1 (the "loopback" address saying "look on this machine itself"). It then auto-fails since the stuff isn't there, and the rest of the website keeps loading while you've just dodged a bullet.
1.6 had the tool as an OPTIONAL module and tosses a ton of pre-configured malware provider sites into your system HOSTS file.
I don't know about 2.0b. But it may have done something similar.
If you have the OS install disk, you could try System File Checker. Make sure you use the instructions appropriate to her version of Windows SFC. -
Question: Did she make sure of the HOSTS file blacklist? It's possible that is what's causing some of the malfunctions.
Quote:Hi all, I'm not sure where to post this as the Spybot forums seem dead.
My girlfriend installed the latest Spybot 2 beta on her system and ran some of the immunizations that came with it. Today a number of webpages were blocked and after I quickly fixed that, we noticed that CoH will not load. When she hits play now there is an error screen.
She uninstalled Spybot so we can't undo the problems, and for some reason she says that system restore only shows today as the only restore point.
I'm sure this is something to do with windows and or Norton blocking the .exe but I can't find out where I can disable it.
I just need some ideas so I can help her out. Thanks all. -

Nope. Even when I retrieve stuff individually doing "One mississippi, two mississippi" I still get timed out after a random number of retrievals.
Or if I'm putting items (like crafted IOs) on the market in a similar fashion.
The fact that I'm now maxed on market slots at any given level means that I have to put up with this more than I used to. -
Quote:Thing is, ATI and Matrox had set themselves up for that from the beginning.3dfx died because they spent money like drunken sailors on lavish parties. Their solution to making a better gfx chip was more and more brute force. Their purchase of STB was more of a distraction to try and hide how badly 3dfx was failing.
There are some companies who sold their own. ATI for the longest time sold their own. Matrox sold their own cards.
3dfx started out as a fabless design house and sell the chips they got created at a foundry to OEMs.
Then the idiots decided they wanted a cut of the "fat profit margins" of an OEM *Cue Uncontrollable Derisive Laughter* and promptly bought the absolute WORST OEM (and the only one that was really for sale at the time due to how badly the company was managed).
Back when VisionTek was a going concern, they picked up a couple former 3dfx employees who were also former STB employees.

Quote:This is normally when I get it too. Lately, however, I have started to get it when dragging things onto the market. I have had this happen even when it's my very first market interaction, meaning I cannot personally have created a backlog of market activities. I have to be suffering from someone else's backlog, or a general backlog of the entire system.
I have always been able to induce it by claiming a number of things individually, if I still do it rapidly. At this point I just hit "claim all" because it's faster to do and I just do it 2-3 times over the course of a few minutes. It's annoying to have to do that, though.
The response I got back from support when I ticketed this was that it's a network latency issue with the server. There's only so many transactions that the network connection to the market server can handle at a given time. If it cranks beyond this as you happen to be dropping something, you get the arbitrary time-out.
Stupidest system EVER! -
Quote:The mobile AA guns are basically on a generic "tracked" base. There's not a lot of room to actually "drive" one.Does anyone know if the helicopters, tanks and mobile anti-aircraft guns used by Longbow and the Vanguard are copies of real ones, based on real ones, or just made up?
This is an art-related question
The tanks themselves are a bit smallish and generic. The fronts are so abbreviated (and or the driver hatches pushed so far forward) you'd have to be a midget to actually drive them and there'd be no armor up front. A friend of mine is 6'10" and he had to SQUEEZE into an M1. On an M1 the driver hatch is actually up underneath the turret and along the center line of the tank.
So, while they may be "inspired by" real life tanks, helicopters and mobile AA, they're all built on "artistic license". -
Quote:Was at the one last Saturday. We were a bit slow on the start and I think Kyo was looking to shoot me when I went into "Hyperstrike's Hamidon Raid Nag Mode". But, all in all, a fairly smooth, well run raid once we got going.-I'd like to run a Hamidon Raid every Saturday in November. I'd LIKE to. This one I'm going to need help with-if you're willing to boss a Hami Raid, either blueside or redside, let me know.
I'd Hami-tank it again any time.
-
I showed up to the one on Saturday that got pushed back an hour.
Outside of Hami spawning early (limiting EoE production), it was a well run raid.
Some people griped about it not being evacless. BFD. Yeah, it takes longer, but is easier for random raid PUGs to deal with. That and the aforementioned early spawn would have made it REALLY painful for some players.
I tend to be kind of a ****** nag on these things. But you guys put up with me just fine.

Okay, currently NOT seeing this on my end.
Just took these while testing after seeing this thread.

Have you run a check on the files.
You've made sure that "Allow multiple instances of a game to be launched" has been checked right?
Sorry if it's a dumb question for you. Just trying to help by going with the easiest stuff first.
If it IS, try unchecking it, closing down, restarting the launcher, and re-checking it. It's possible your settings got scrambled in an update and it just needs to be cleared and re-entered.
Also, if you can provide CoH Helper and HJT logs... (But you KNEW I was gonna ask for those right?) -
Glad you're finally back on a stable-ish system.
Sorry you went through all that hell just to get things working again. -
Quote:Yeah. If it weren't for Paragonwiki, I wouldn't know WHERE the last two SSA contacts are. They never announced themselves. The worst part?
Trying to find the damned contact.
I was looking for the name/ location of the contact, skimming through some threads here to see if I could find that out. Still don't know who it is, or where he is, but I have managed to spoil the "reveal" for myself. -
I'm just not a huge fan of the "path" auras.
Yeah, they look cool on running characters. But for jumpers and fliers, all it does is obscure the screen while your character moves. -
Quote:I didn't say that SSDs had become a BETTER price/performance option.Even at $220 (but now out of stock), the 1TB, 6Gb/s WD Caviar Black still has 8x the storage capacity of a 128GB Crucial M4 SSD (also meaning it's 8x cheaper per GB).
Merely that, with the price changes they'd become COMPARATIVELY better. -
On the flip side of this, due to price adjustments of mechanical drives, SSDs are now a more attractive proposition on the price/performance scale than they were previously.

Well, just logged into the board and it issued me a cookie with a timeout year of 1969.

My FF/Archery defender.
Now, FF is essentially a mini-tank anyhow. But with some sets in there, it becomes really EEEVIL. The change of the ally shields to AoE made it even MORE godlike since now I apply once and cover everyone during stuff like ship raids. So I can spend more time dropping Rain of Arrows, Repulsion Bomb and Explosive Arrow. And if they get to close. THUNDERSTRIKE!

Yeah. Come gripe to me about KB.
Yeah. It may not be a Fire/Fire blaster (but what, besides a fire/fire blaster IS?). But the amount of combat control I have with the set was a VERY pleasant surprise. -
The short answer: YEP!
The long answer: Yes. Because it's just a dumping ground with zero organization whatsoever. So anyone looking for AT-specific stuff gets it buried with crap from every other AT out there.
It was basically implemented this way because one community guy asked a couple poorly worded questions to a bunch of newbies who hadn't taken the time to actually learn anything about the forums. As such, their lousy, redundant ideas are now an albatross we're all forced to deal with.
Worse, the actual knowledgeable players realize this, if the community people at Paragon are oblivious. Therefore, it is not, AND WILL NOT be used.
In the interest of limiting confusion, Paragon's community should do itself a favor and axe the build forum. I can understand wanting to give the Mid's guys a venue. But this ain't the way. -

Quote:Basically, with tanks, it should kick in earlier and scale faster. Still won't stop high-power pulsed-damage alpha-shots that get by defenses from spattering them though.I remember attempting some math on that for a scrapper and finding by the time the res got high enough to help, it wouldnt be enough to keep you alive. With a tanks higher hp it should be better, but still probably not enough to stay alive. Ill have to check that out.
- Initial shot takes off all but 1 HP damage unresisted.
- First pulse is highly resisted but still does 1 HP and kills ya.

Honestly, the LFG tool should have two additional sections:
Trial Choice and LFG Alert.
You basically choose which trial you want, then insert yourself into the LFG queue.
When someone starts up a trial group, they select their trial choice and are made aware that there are people in the LFG queue. They can opt to auto-recruit them at the time and it dumps these people into the league.
Once the trial fills, the leader queues for said trial and boom.
Quote:The LFG queue system has a couple of problems.
1) "Join an event already in progress" doesn't let you join events that have vacancies unless they've dropped below the minimum level necessary to play it. It should let you join events that have dropped below the maximum level allowed.
2) You can sit in the LFG queue all day while trials form left, right, and center if every trial fills completely before it starts. The way that Incarnate trials are formed by people hanging out in RWZ or Pocket D, inviting until they have two or three full teams, doesn't give those people waiting in the LFG queue any way to get in unless and until someone starts a not-quite-full trial and leaves it open for others to join.
Is there any way these issues could be addressed? -
I've heard of ****ing your brains out. This guy **** a whole damn scientist!

Quote:Yes, the 26th would be the Saturday after Thanksgiving, and from the intitial feedback it looks like a go!
Let's go ahead and set the date and get ready to roll! TT will land on Exalted on the 26th! We'll meet at High Noon PT\3pm ET\8pm BT. See ya' there!
Find, I don't see any reason we couldn't go for the Tin Mage TF. Come down front when we're setting up and see if we can get enough 50s in on it.
You may want to add this into the original post listing all the dates. -
Quote:The problem is, the scaling res doesn't really kick in until you're in serious trouble.Interesting approaches. But doesn't SR also have layered mitigation through its scaling res? That's the part I'm unsure about, because even if it kicks in late, it appears that with all three auto powers, one can get pretty hefty res to all types on top of the ungodly defense... Am I reading that wrong? Also wouldn't SR be easier to softcap in the iTrials?
At that point...

And no, you cannot do this via macro. You cannot set a macro button to auto-fire.
