Quote:Honestly, I don't care if we're limited to 5 tips in a 20 hour period for alignment change. Its there because of the Hero/Villain Merit and without the cool down people would farm them to death and flood the market with LotG Recharges or similar.
However they are adding an Instant Alignment Change token. Which may solve your problem.
I'd just like to be able to rack up the 3 stored tip missions so I don't have to keep a radio/paper/contact mission open as a tip generation farm. -
I'd say take whichever one piques your interest more.
Invuln tanks, when built well, are so crazy survivable that talking about an extra heal making them "more survivable" is basically comparing the ground zero blast damage of a 100 kiloton nuclear detonation with the blast damage of a 101 kiloton nuclear detonation. -
Quote:Those are FPS games Infernus. In those games, all the players are essentially clones of one another or clones within a VERY limited set of ATs.Wow, yes Quake, Halflife, Soldier of Fortune 2, Battlefield, Counterstrike and more than I care to list did just that. I could sniper you for a headshot, grenade you, knife you, shotty you and so on - all had strengths and all had weaknesses.
The same CANNOT be said for CoH.
You have 14 ATs.
Each of which has hundreds of combinations of Primary/Secondary/Ancillary/Epic pool choices
Further increased by hundreds (or possibly thousands) of permutations of power selection.
Further increased by power slotting and augmentation choices.
FURTHER increased by Incarnate level and power choices.
Not to mention the fact that PVP mechanics are vastly different than PVE mechanics and you essentially are learning a different game with an identical skin.
Not even a nice try man. -
Quote:As the devs have said, it's no longer "risk vs reward". It's "time vs reward".How does this equate to a reasonable risk vs reward in any way, shape or form?
How much "risk" is my "capped to all" tank/brute in when I plow through +0's for hours/days/weeks/months/years on end?
Maybe about the same as your AFK farmer was? Maybe slightly less? I didn't have to worry about some random PVPer coming across and the farm and usurping it by killing the "killer" toon and hijacking the ressurection toons.
Again, no. Not anymore. It's time vs reward. Hami is a known quantity. Basically connect all the dots, ESPECIALLY on Incarnate toons, and victory is basically assured. Hell, have everyone get Warburg nukes (again, a time sink), and Hami goes away in 10 minutes.Quote:What I object to is this: All games generate rewards based upon risk versus reward. Hami-o's, for example, require you to complete a significant feat to gain. This is as it should be.
Nowadays, a Hami raid is about the time it takes to get a group together and kill enough monsters to spawn Hami then kill him. That's it. -
Quote:Fixed that for you.You can buy sets in the store with real money now that do the same.
The fact that the set bonuses carry down to some fairly low levels? Where as non-real-money IOs (save purples) don't.Quote:So what again is the issue with PvP Sets exemping down?
Repeat after me please. YOUR evaluation of the merit of the bonuses provided by PVP IO sets is irrelevant. No other non-real-money IOs in the game save for the purples (which also don't give multiple bonuses for going PVP)Quote:And the PvP IO set bonuses for PvE are not subjective compared to Purples.
On the market or spec-buying them with various merits?Quote:They are not as good as purple sets, if they were you would see higher prices for them than we do now.
Or should I say "off the market"?
Well, they've been fiddling with it for how long?Quote:Incapable, really?
And the last dev who really had any real interest in "fixing" it is now gone?
Uh. Maybe because I don't play this game for the half-*** (and I'm being generous, it's much less than half, and most of it consists of brown hole) PVP and all the hostility it engenders in the PVP community?Quote:Why are you playing a game where you feel the current dev team, which is doing new and creative things IMO, is unable to accomplish this feat of balancing PvP?
Yup. Way to completely and utterly miss my point.Quote:If you think the developers of the game you play suck so bad, you might want to move on in life.
Some. But not all.Quote:PvP players are notoriously some of the most high end build focused players in MMOs.
Yup. And people have been screaming about "pay to win" already.Quote:That's the market segment that will spend any amount of INF, and any amount of real cash if you let them, to totally pimp their builds out.
As for the profligate Inf spenders? These people are my bread and butter. I'm a marketeer.
Oh yeah. I'm sure. See where I talked about "pay to win"?Quote:So just so we are clear - those players, could be made to be very profitable.
PVP: If you catered to each of these 300 people you could make $1000 off each and make $300,000!Quote:That's not wasted labor.
PVE: If you catered to each of these 70,000 you could make $100 off each and make $7,000,000.
How's that going to work again?
Maybe. I always have to admit it's a possibility.Quote:Maybe you're just unable to see past your own bombastic negativity?
However vanishingly small the likelihood of that is.
And thus, you've donned an even MORE narrow pair of blinkers.Quote:I ignored the rest of your post, because you don't seem to be able to have a discussion like a grown up.
One of the reasons I need to be this blunt and forthright in the first place is because anything put forth with subtlety and tact is completely missed and misinterpreted.
Mainly because said individuals don't actually want a healthy dialog. They just want to be "right" and have their way.
c'est la vie -

Quote:Sorry, but it isn't going to happen. They, quite simply, are incapable of balancing PVP (to the point that they've stopped even trying).I personally think the devs should shut down PvP AFK farming by actually making the system for earning PvPs through actual PvP more attractive.
And even if they WERE able to at this late date, it still would be wasted labor. Myriad other concerns, besides mere technical adjustment, poison the chances that PVP will ever become meaningful. Not the least of it being the absolutely vile behavior of a certain segment of the PVP population.
If they want to pull the fangs of the whole PVP farming issue, they need to make earning them easier. Both in-PVP and out. Right now, PVP IOs are more expensive than purples in terms of Alignment Merit cost.
Sorry, but Kevin Spacey said it best.Quote:While the attractiveness of PvP to PvE players is a whole other issue,

It's part and parcel of the whole. What you're attempting to do is talk about what a smooth ride a car would give...if it had tires and an engine...
If someone's rocking 10 accounts, how is that going to be much different from PVP'ing against another team?Quote:I think that if they implemented a method to track real kills vs. farming kills perhaps using MARTy, they should implement a method of earning PvP merits similar to Empyrean merits.
PVPBroot kills JoeBlaster
PVPBroot kills NoController
PVPBroot kills LOLKheldianPVP
Are the devs going to track whether the people have been standing still?
And what kind of load would that granularity of tracking impose on a shard?
So instead of farming the IOs directly, they farm the PvP merits?Quote:Except PvP IOs would be slightly cheaper at the PvP vendors, and standard recipies would slightly more expensive.
Yeah. Good plan!

This can be done in three "easy" steps!Quote:I'd like to see the devs give real value to the people who actually do want to PvP and make the system for drops attractive to them, unlike the nightmare it is now where going AFK for 18-20 hours and farming yourself is the best method.
- Invent Time Machine
- Go back to the first days of Cryptic's meetings for CoH's planning.
- Hold a gun to their heads until they put "Balanced PVP" at the top of the list.
Or you could do the following.
- Throw several million dollars at NCSoft and Paragon Studios to fund the development of "PVP Your Way".
-
Whether the bonuses are "crappier" (which is a completely subjective judgement) is irrelevant. The fact is, the bonuses still exemp all the way down.
-
Quote:Oh bull. While it's MORE cumbersome than AFK farming, you could drag alts through tip missions and SSAs for Alignment Merits. It's not as fast, but it's doable. And what about us PvP'rs who can't AFK farm? Because of AFK farming, those that do it having a huge advantage over those that don't from the start; whether it helps the market or not, it still doesn't change the fact that AFK farming is the only viable way to afford all this crap anyway. I would rather AFK farming be nerfed and no one be able to afford this stuff than have the imbalance right now that gimps me from the start. I'm dueling regularly on Freedom without PvP IOs right now, and let me tell you, it's a pain in the ***.
Also, why CAN'T you AFK farm?
Honestly, I call shenanigans. You may not be able to do it at the same scale as some of the guys with the really POWERFUL computers. But you can likely support at least one alt.
Or are you still running a 2Ghz P4 with 1GB of RAMBUS memory and a GeForce 256? -
Quote:The problem is, how do you segregate out the drop table for the "chaff" while not dropping hundreds of the desireable (+Def, +Resist, +HP etc uniques)? No reason to nerf them... they're not excessivly good. They're not trash... but they're not overpowering by any stretch.
Plus the fact that THE SET BONUSES EXEMP LIKE PURPLES? -
Quote:Let me rephrase this for my own thoughts on the issue. As a player that loves rewards there is no way I'm going to PvP for an extremely rare chance for a drop AND then on top of that have to deal with the timer.
As a player that loves rewards there is no way I'm going to PvP. -
Because repeating content, and getting rewarded for doing so, isn't an exploit. Were it an exploit, there would be no repeatable TFs. No Oroborous. No iTrials. Nada.
Or, if you repeated them, there would be no XP, Prestige, Inf, Salvage, Recipe or Enhancement drops. -
Quote:Simply because you dislike something doesn't mean it needs to be "fixed".Which actually means there's 2 things that need fixed.... PVP IOs need to drop more frequently and AFK farming should be made impossible.
Likely, if they fixed it so that PVP IOs dropped more regularly, they'd wind up having to nerf them fairly drastically. -
No. This is actually the right section.
Sure, you can (and have) dupli-posted in the build forum too. But you'll probably see more help specific to tankers here.
A few questions?
What does your current build look like?
What's your budget (inf) for this build look like?
Going to be spending most of your time in or out of Granite?
There IS going to be one problem though.
Currently Titan Weapons isn't in Mid's. So getting you a Mid's dump is going to be implausible. -
- Essentially you have one toon set up to make the kills, and output Stupid Level Damage {TM}. You put a big attack on auto.
- You then set up a bunch of secondary accounts with toons outfitted with rapid-charging self-res set on auto.
- Park them in an unobtrusive corner of a PVP zone.
- Turn off your monitor and go to bed.
It's not hard. It's just tedious. But hey, if people want to actually bring valuable, scarce PVP IOs down to a reasonable price via this method? KUDOS!
This will mean I no longer need to go through back-channels to sell the fruits of my tip mission farming to get what they're worth.
This vitriol is effectively a local butcher screaming at a mobile hot dog vendor rolling through town because people don't come to HIM for their hot dogs.
My sympathy for such people is somewhat smaller than a tau muon. -
Quote:Lol the devs seem to have changed to loveing farming. Look at their shiney new end game as proof. I-trials are all about farming. The drop rate for PvP ios is such that I can afk farm for 18-20 hours straight and I usually get 0-1 so nerf it and all the PvE's precious 3% procs will explode in price. Personally I only sell the procs everything else goes in my base for future toons and afk farming is litterally the only way to get enough of these to io a PvP toon now.
Okay time for some grammatical clarification again.
To be succinct. The devs don't give a flying **** about FARMING.
Farming is mere repetition of content (or repetitious content) for rewards. There's nothing wrong with that. At some level, EVERY player engages in farming to some degree. This is part of the design of the game...
What the devs care about is farming EXPLOITS in the game. If you're farming Battle Maiden for XP, or tip missions for Alignment Merits, that's not a huge deal.
If you're farming Mitos and Rikti dolls, and "Ye Olde Endlesse Ambushe Farme" in AE, that's a problem. -

Quote:If you have access to Mids, take a gander at this build.Hello everyone, I've been trying to get into defenders and I think I've settled on a FF/Beam Defender. I've grown to like beam more than either DP or AR.
Can anyone comment on how good Bubblers are at L50?
You're essentially a blaster with shields capped PLUS to AoE and Ranged. And if you miss something, you REALLY weren't trying to hit it.

Quote:Why not Galaxy City?I understand that because RWZ is a co-op zone, a lot of other servers use it as their itrial location.
But, with the presence of a weekly run (if not impromptu) Mothership Raids, the fact that the LGTF is formed up in the same area, why haven't we taken an area that is a ghost town (Pocket D) and used that (almost) exclusively for itrial formations?
The last iTrial I was on, there was some serious anger being flung around because a MSR was close to being formed up, and there was going to be the problem of one RWZ being full and a second being opened, so forth and so on.
Pocket D is dead on Exalted.
If iTrial formations were moved to that zone, no one would have to worry about the 'omgbbqsuace' problem of one event getting in the way of another.
Thoughts?
It's dead, not overrun by lowbies, has a hospital, an arena for inspies, etc. -

Quote:I've got to agree with McNum. Forcefield already has great defense. Giving it more won't improve the set.
What the set could really use is,.. well, just about anything else. Damage buffing. Some form of Debuffing ability (Other than -tohit really, since that's basically the same net effect as +Defense).
Forcefield's biggest problem is that it's essentially a 1 trick pony. While FF does have more tools than +Defense, they're a widely hated effect (Knockback).
Yes and no. Forcefield's real trick is allowing the user to simply "set and forget" with their big bubbles and concentrate out dishing out damage with the secondary, ancillary and epic pools (as well as Incarnate powers).
There's really not another set out there that allows you to do so. Doing it on most other sets or "rocking the aura" is frowned upon as "wasteful".
Sonic comes close, but it's more buff/debuff-oriented than FF. -

"Superman is dead in the 21st century, yet alive in the 853rd, and their instruments register no error. When Rip Hunter tries to stop Gog from killing Superman on the day his and Wonder Woman's child is born (that being a day when 'anything seemed possible'), Gog manages to steal the infant (named Jonathan), whom he plans to raise and name Magog. (In issue #2, this was revealed to be a red herring. The child did not grow up to become Magog; instead, he became a Hypertime-traveling super-hero wearing a costume based on the costumes of his parents and his godfather, Batman, giving him a vague resemblance to the Phantom Stranger.)"
I don't remember if you see much of the grown child, but DC did do the offspring.
