Quote:The thing is, it's unfair to people who've been earning millions of prestige on their badger for years now. The badge would essentially start EVERYONE at zero. The inf badges only count inf earned, not gained through selling drops or using the auction house or having it traded or mailed to you. There's no reason a prestige badge couldn't ignore converted prestige the same way, and only count prestige gained by defeating enemies and completing missions/arcs.
And why NOT allow people to buy it? There's way, WAY too much free Inf in the in-game economy. Allowing people to burn it for this badge would be a relatively harmless way of siphoning some of that off. -
Quote:Could be shoddy hardware.Hi, guys. I recently purchased a new wireless keyboard and mouse by Digital Innovations after a horrific coffee spill on my old (wired) keyboard and mouse.
Very regularly...in fact, several times daily... the keyboard will suddenly start malfunctioning. Certain buttons will all of a sudden change their functionality for no reason. For instance, the issue I just experienced was that any time I pushed "1" (and this started in the middle of a mission, mind you), instead of executing the corresponding power in the power tray, it will bring up some Windows 7 function, asking me if I want to allow Microsoft to make changes to this computer, blah blah blah, which of course brings me out of the game until I click on the game screen with my mouse and go back into the game. Of course, now I can't press "1" or the same thing will happen.
The issue is rarely the same issue twice, however. Sometimes, in team play, "TAB", which I have set to highlight the nearest enemy, will instead highlight the team leader. This happened once for a period of a few minutes, then the issue went away. Most frequently, however, and this is most infuriating, I will all of a sudden lose the ability to enter text in the chat bar, which destroys my ability to communicate with my team. The only way to fix the issue is to reboot, which of course pisses off my team because I had no way to communicate that I was going to have to drop suddenly and reboot.
This happens regularly, and it seems to affect my mouse, as well, in that when I click on desktop icons directly after leaving the game with the aforementioned issues, the left click will suddenly act as a right click, etc. It seems to happen only in CoH, though that may be because I've been spending a lot of time in game since I bought them and haven't given it time to happen elsewhere.
Has anyone even heard of an issue like this? It's starting to make the game unplayable, and I don't really have the money right now to just cut my losses and buy another set of keyboard/mouse.
Any and all feedback is most welcome and greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.
Could be shoddy software (try downloading the latest drivers).
Could be that you're getting interference. The portions of spectrum that wireless devices like that use is a dumping ground.
It could be something busted in your OS.
It could be a combination of some or all of the above. -
Telling someone on an internet forum to shut up.
See dictionary for "Futile".
Why? my point was made. If you're too dim to realize that, well that's your problem.Quote:as for that being an "illustration", maybe you should take some drawing lessons from battlewraith.
Thing is, you're NOT too dim to realize it. You're just trying to wave your hands and distract people away from an inconvenient point that you don't want to face up to.
Toughski ****ski. -
Quote:I disagree with this. I like having Taunt pretty much always and immediately available. This way if things get out of hand I can drop some spot control on enemies going after my squishies. You can swap out one of the recharge reductions on Taunt for Range increase. And take some slots from there as well. Honestly, if you need Taunt more then every 5 secs its a problem (especially with Gauntlet and Invicibility)
Due to Gauntlet, they're ALREADY AoE taunts. Increasing the magnitude of the taunt isn't going to assist much unless you're deliberately trying to rip aggro off other tanks.Quote:Slot a Taunt in Dark Consumption and soul drain. This will give you two AoE taunts to use.
NO! Disagreement: VEHEMENT!!!Quote:Yuu dont need to slot accuracy at all. When surrounded by 5 enemies, your invicibility gives you +15% to hit. Sould drain also gives you a +to hit buf as well. Slotting accuracy at all in this build just isnt needed.
Even with the +ToHit buffs, that's still not enough +ToHit to keep you tagging enemies reliably. ESPECIALLY in light of -ToHit debuffs and enemies with high defense values.
ESPECIALLY in a common-IO build, you want some Accuracy augmentation. Otherwise combat quickly becomes a frustrating series of "*Miss*Miss*Miss*Miss*Streakbreaker*" -
Quote:ever heard of proportions? where did you go to school? Texas or something?
LOL. U mad?
I repeat. "Illustration", not "data".
It is not, and never was meant to be an accurate representation of actual proportion of PVP population to total population. It was merely meant to show what I was originally talking about, that the PVE population as a whole, vastly overshadows the PVP population.
If you wanted a statistically accurate chart with real numbers, you need to go to the devs for that data. My picture was meant to make a point, not convey actual numbers. -
Quote:Honestly? I think "squeaky wheel gets the oil".I hate that threads like this continue to pop up, with the same people saying the same things over and over again without any new arguments, attempting to create the impression that their opinions are more widely held than they actually are.
Keep the issue firmly front-and-center so that the devs understand the problem isn't going to just "go away" or otherwise magically resolve itself.
In a lot of cases, people aren't saying "get rid of trials". They're asking for a broader experience. And while probably NOT unleavened with self-interest, many of these people simply want the game to get better. -
Quote:Yes, from years ago. If you think it's 15% now, you're on drugs.that's not 15% chart-boi.
and that 15% is a quote from ex-libris.
Also, I said "illustration" instead of "data". Note there are no real numbers on that chart anyplace.
It's their insistence that dead systems like PVP are actually important to this game when, clearly, they aren't.Quote:gawd, why are people so dumb in this game? -

Quote:Actually the case wasn't bad, even though the video card was a tighter fit than id like. This is what got me http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835118003. Apparently it happens to a lot of people, as i read about in the newegg reviews.
Yeah. I used to be a big fan of the Zalman coolers.
But they haven't taken the trouble to refine their retention mechanisms in several years now. While the Intel retention mechanism isn't *Insert one's prime mover*'s gift to heatsink mounting, it's brain-dead simple and just works.
That and the sheer vertical clearance required by their coolers is a bit...
Let's just say I've mounted some CPU heatsinks with some VERY large surface area. And the Zalmans are just too damn tall. -
Quote:Perhaps you misunderstood what I said. Which was a reaction to what you said. And what are you using as a point of comparison? Incarnate trials aren't required. They're how you get your Incarnate powers, though. If you don't enjoy the content you're welcome to not have the powers, obviously...
The way the post I responded to read, you were asking for a new round of Incarnate-type XP that could ONLY be gotten by running the three trials you named.
As for your "Do it MY way or just be happy you get nothing". I'll simply leave it a "Forum rules prohibit me from expressing exactly what I feel about this."
And I'd suggest you make an effort to understand I was actually trying to say (in a thread asking what we dislike about the iTrials) and drop the nose-in-the-air attitude.Quote:But even with that being said, we know Dark Astoria is coming. I just can't find any motive whatsoever for you making this statement... Unless you didn't even read enough of my post to see where I mentioned Dark Astoria. If that's the case, I suggest you recheck it.
Oh wait! Anonymous forum on the internet!

Quote:You do understand that the PvP community is a PART of the COH community.
NO!
REALLY?
What I'm saying is that, to some, the PVP community is most or all they see of the game. But the total community of the greater game is several orders of magnitude larger than the PVP community alone.
In another way, yes I know that the PVP community is a part of the whole CoH community. A small part.
Illustration:

I'm not. I'm saying there's a lack of support for the CoH PVP community. And there's likely going to continue to be one. Mostly for financial reasons. And partly because people outside the PVP community just don't care.Quote:So please don't come in here and attempt to justify the DEV's total lack of support to the COH Community on PvP issues.
My thoughts exactly.Quote:And also drop the planners are nice but not necessary crap.
That's "all" huh?Quote:Some of us did the same thing on Paper so that we knew what we were building prior to spending that inf. All the mids guys did was take that paper and calculator off our tables/desks and put it in program form.
That's like a materials engineer who did work on concrete claiming most of the credit for building a bridge.
While yes, most of the math was already out there, actually formatting it in a way people can use and doing the underlying programming constitutes a greater actual amount of "work" than just straining one's skull.
Or as an author once said. "I laugh at the people who come to me and say "I have this great idea! You write about it and we'll be partners!" -
Quote:And would essentially lock out anyone who can't run or stand these trials.I think my suggestion that you quoted would alleviate your "new currency" fear. To me, it's pretty simple: Don't let the Incarnate XP for the new slots to be purchasable with threads, inf, or anything else. Make it be "earned" by doing MoM, TPN, Underground, and future additions like normal XP is. This would mean no need for a new currency, because people would still be required to play the content to unlock the slots in the first place.

Quote:Yeah. This build is just SCREAMING "Agility Core Paragon and Enzyme HO's".Nice build but u forgot 1 major factor in it and that is KB as a tank KB is very bad trying to keep aggro. Usual rule is 10-12 KB prot but u can also get by most stuff with just 8. Also u left out taunt. I know you do not like it but there is to many end game content it is good for IE taking on LR at the end of STF for example, HAMI if u like to do HAMI by the sounds of it you do considering u have HOs. I did a little change on it and switched build up with Tunt since u have fiery embrace. I also got you 12 KB protection and some more def. You do not need to keep taunt if u do not wish to, and keep build up it is up to you though.

Quote:While I understand, I also understand the devs' point on this. The participation metric is:There have been numerous times where I would fight like my life depends on it, granted I am participating on everything possible and not just sitting there like Ive seen some people do and all I get for my hard work is a fricken common incarnate salvage. I had one person that didnt do much work at all and got a VR, so I really think your reward is based on your participation is just bull crap.
Incarnate Trial rewards needs to be looked at because there is something really wrong, how can you reward someone who actively participates in the trial and give them in a sense a lump of coal (common) and then turn around and give someone who doesnt do crap a VR.
This my friends is the one thing I hate the most about these incarnate trials.
- 10 threads OR
- Random roll
Does knowing this, in an intellectual sense, make it FEEL any less suck-tastic?
HELL NO! -
Quote:A-Friggin-men!The thing I hate the most about them: the time it can take to form them if your server population is currently low. And I hate the resulting sense of "better do it now while others are forming" pressure this also creates, even when I'm not in the mood for iTrials.
It's been a part of my love-hate relationship with all team required content and even at times teaming with friends who enjoy RPing. Sometimes I'm just in the mood to log in and be asocial. These pressures to team while the getting is good can run counter to those impulses. And I don't in any way blame the Devs for this. It's just one aspect of my fickle vascillating self.
While this isn't the MOST offensive thing about certain trials, it's the most offensive thing they all have in common. -
Quote:Build planners fall under the purview of "nice but not necessary".I look at most purchases this way. If I buy the newest Canon camera I would like the manual that comes with it. Or if you buy a car often it comes with a manual. Its good business. It doesn't leave the customer wondering or researching for what to do with their product.
Remember, the game is supposed to be a time and resource sink. Build planners, by definition, break this. As they allow you to see a build and gain a general idea of raw-numbers performance before you actually spend a single Inf or burn a single merit.
And the game's general support of Mac is fairly dismal. They have to rely on a 3rd party wrapper to get it done and the current version of the wrapper is just barely hanging in there.Quote:Another side note, Mac users can't run Mids (unless they have windows on their Mac)
[qote]People don't have all the time in the world to sit down and play a game. Less alone sit down, learn another program to learn how to build a character for PvP, ask for advice, realize they made mistakes, have to respec their character again, slot it just right, then go back to playing to only find out that they wasted countless hours farming for the 28 billion dollar pvp character they just made. [/quote]
Yet people got along without Mids before. And see above where I mention the fact that the game is supposed to be a time sink. So this particular objection would be met with "Boo hoo hoo".
You can rage-downgrade-to-premium if you want. It's still not going to get PVP fixed in any meaningful way.Quote:Believe me I have done it and I'm still doing it but the thought has crossed my mind again... Should I leave this game again and see if they will fix it another 2 years from now?
The CoH community is SIGNIFICANTLY larger than the PVP community.Quote:Yeah, as for the developers coming up with flying carpets and fireworks...Really? Did the PvP community ask for this?
So the answer to your questions are:
- Yes! Really!
- No the PVP community didn't ask for this but who cares? They're catering to a community base several orders of magnitude larger than the PVP community.
As a website review said, Paragon is "Throwing a lot of stuff against the wall and seeing what sticks". And the community as a whole is always asking for community and travel power options. This is just another attempt to deliver it.Quote:Oh the majority asked for this... wait! Did the majority ask for this?
Nah I think its marketing over riding developers at this point, and all of us are buying straight into it. Yeah maybe its time to shoot the dead horse one last time
Simply because it's not aimed at Joe-PVP doesn't mean a damn thing. -
Quote:Excellent! I'm really glad we were able to point you to something you like.Got everything in today, system is working perfectly. It's like going from a golf cart to a Ferrari. And as Father pointed out, it's normal for there to be a bit of blood your first time.
Happy gaming! -
Quote:Good luck, but don't hold your breath.ok well thank you for your help and understanding on all this, i believe that if pvp is this broken and messed up they should just remove it from the game until they fix it, my love for this game has really dropped after learning all this and i hope they do the right thing and do what EVERYONE has been asking them to do for the last 3 years, and that is fix pvp.
There are myriad problems with PVP (not the least of which is, not everyone agrees with what EXACTLY constitutes "fixed").
There's also the fact that they could spend hours/days/weeks/months/years "fixing" PVP and maybe only affect a few hundred people. Or they can spend the same time on portions of the the game directly utilized by the majority of the game population.
Maybe if someone wanted to plunk down some tall cash to pay/bribe Paragon Studios into working on PVP and get it somewhere on the "To-Do" list ahead of "photorealistic butt-wiping animations", you might eventually see something. But likely not until the devs have exhausted just about EVERY other possibility of the game.
The fact is, PVP was nothing but a tacked-on afterthought here.
By themselves, the powersets are INHERENTLY unbalanced. Combination A/B/C will always win out over combination X/Y/Z. And balancing the powers changes the way the game plays in VERY non-trivial ways. PVP is pretty much it's own separate game with only a veneer of sameness (the visuals) to link them.
Honestly, I'd love to see the PVP'ers get a bone tossed their way. *I* still wouldn't play PVP. But that's just me. I can still understand the draw of wanting to test yourself against other players. -
Quote:If by "weakness" you mean "not softcapped", sure.It takes some doing, but you can soft-cap INV to S/L/E/N with 1 foe in Invincibility. See the scrapper boards and even some posts here for builds. When you pick up the various accolades you end up with a very sturdy tanky brute that can still dish dmg.
Weakenesses remain psi dmg groups e.g. Arachnos & Carnies.
I seriously considered TW/INV but ended up TW/SR to get the extra recharge and more "no get hitsu".
And that's ignoring the secondary buffs to your positional defenses. There are very few attacks without some sort of positional flag on them, and most of the ones that don't aren't going to whack you for much damage.
As such, your Ranged and AoE numbers will provide you with some decent protection. In a lot of cases, more than will be provided by your Typed Psi defense numbers.
It may not ALWAYS be enough to save you from smootching floor, but it should slow the fall down a bit. -
