Quote:My aim in games was always an uncertain thing at the best of times (unless I was behind a sniper rifle). It's was basically lots of "kentucky windage" (short for aim in the general direction of the other guy and if he blows into chunks you did it Right).Yep I mainly play FPS games myself. All FPS games generally take a select few needs, mainly aim, of which I have obtained from other games but still struggle with on this game due to maps, lag, character models and the general movement of the characters is rather weird.
I tended towards team environments. I'd function as a shock trooper. I'd try to find a formation of enemy, fall on them like a metric ****-ton of bricks and, while I died, they were usually so completely distracted while my team came in and wiped the floors (and walls, and ceilings, and occasionally if you could paint extradimensional axes we'd do that too...) with them. Most of the teams we played against just weren't ready for a guy who was WILLING to scream a prayer to the Flying Spaghetti Monster and charge in, hell-bent on suicide.
Freaked them the hell out. -

Quote:INSERT:One "problem" with CoH inspirations is that you can stockpile them and essentially become unhittable for most normal content just by popping purples. It's a great way to handle bosses, but it does tend to make CoH characters overly powerful.
This is why it's City of *Heroes*, not City of *Guys Who Are Only Marginally Tougher Than A Ninety-Pound Weakling*. -

I can't single out *a* dev or Paragon employee (past or present).
All of them have contributed so much to the game that the final product was just awe-inspiring, and has completely ruined me for just about anything else after this.
They basically blasted open the superhero MMO and squatted in it going "MINE!".
You've had a couple newer contenders come along, promising better gameplay and sexier graphics. And they were all just swatted and shown their place in the scheme of things.
I feel privileged to have been a citizen of Paragon City. A place composed of millions of dreams and no limits but what we set for ourselves. And its gatekeepers at Paragon Studios have my undying thanks for having allowed me to share this world with themselves, and you, my fellow players.
For me, home is always going to look a little like this from now on:

Quote:Well. The way I have it figured. From I Burnt the Toast-This whole thing with NCSoft has turned me off A LOT form MMOs.... I do not see the point in becoming invested in something when the virtual rug can be pulled in an instant without notice. EVEN if I liked CO remotely...I doubt I would play/sub...simply not worth spending the time in something that will more than likely be gone in a few years.
I feel the same- NCSoft has damaged the whole MMO market to me. I tried Champs . I wanted to like it as I am a PNP Champions player and gamemaster sinse 1984. I hated the tutorial, limiter power choices and costume choices. Of course I could pay but look how that turned out in COH.
1: Play the game on F2P for a month or two to see if you can hack the general gameplay without wanting defenestrate your computer.
2: Pay for a month or two of sub time to try out some of the other classes and freeform.
3: Figure out if you think game has approximately 2-3 years left. Buy an LTS (if available). You're essentially covered for any and everything.
That's not just for CO. That's kinda for any game you're looking at.
I just got lucky that I was comped for mine.
It's not precisely my cup of tea. But, hey. I can't argue with "free".
That and all the legacy stuff I've racked up is freaking incredible. -
As the communications with the devs. Kinda yes and kinda no.
I was fiddling last night in the Whiteout missions (currently referred to as "The bug-fest from hell!")
I happened to see one of the GMs making an announcement, introduced myself and asked how long should I expect to wait for a GM. He actually replied almost instantly and was quite nice. But apparently all the GMs go home for the day. So no shift work. Meaning if you get stuck or there's a problem overnight, you're boned. -
And the tour on Exalted was a success.
There were three Paladins waiting for our gentle ministrations.
Yeah. Lots of dents were made!
At first we thought we were going to do a Synapse TF (and slog through a few hours of Clockwork).
Then we decided NAH! We'll rescue Synapse's squishy behind! And went for SSA1.
After that, we mished for a bit and found out why 50+ Arachnos mishes are hell against lowbies...
*BLIND*DEAD!*
After that we got us a nice juicy Council mission. Much buttock was kicked (and not all of it ours!) -
Damn, that actually looked kinda fun.

Quote:You would. NOW.I cannot sympathize with getting worked up over threats to expose something embarrassing I voluntarily did in a fit of stupidity, or the subsequent exposure. It's the sort of thing I would shrug off.
Howabout when you were in 12-14 years old and had all that pressure on you to fit in and be "liked"?
I was 18 and in the Army before finally ACCEPTED that I really didn't need to give a **** what other people (especially idiots) thought of me. And my life has been a LOT better since then.
I actually got to deal with real grown ups as a grown up in a grown up setting. Liberating is EXACTLY what it was. -

Quote:The USPO is completely clueless and doesn't even know that prior patents cover what this does, let alone the Internet for the last 20 years.
The USPO sole duty is to rubber-stamp any flimsy idea for a fee. It doesn't bother to do any research at all into applications. Instead it trusts the applicant.
The USPO is a world-wide joke.
Edit:
The patent, as presented, is overly broad and could apply from paper-doll programs to web pages to MMOs.
It's about to get a LOT worse too.
USPO is moving from "first to invent" to "first to file".
Now what could go wrong there?

Quote:This is why I hate people sometimes. And why I would, had I had access to guns, CHEERFULLY shot up my school when I was her age. Luckily (for them) my parents never owned guns, and forcibly restrained me from taking a bat to school. This happened in a town near me. I don't know the person but it is an absolute tragedy. Her video is so sad. Think about this if you're out there tormenting someone...

What do you want to bet the little bastards who pushed her into this get off with a slap on the wrists?
Quote:I always thought it was sort of weird how these things happen, especially with kids that have really good support networks of friends and family. I suppose with the dynamics of modern social-media, being always connected is important... that also means always beeing connected to the bullies, and the thought of being harrassed non-stop on all fronts like what has been happening is really disheartening.
I suppose I always figured 'cyber-bullying' was a bit of a stupid concept because the bullies would be easy to put on ignore, but I've had to rethink that.
That and, even the most sensitive faculty are still figures of authority who can't be trusted.
Quote:This reminds me of the people who say that bullying isn't a bad thing and that people need to learn that not everyone will like them.
It also makes me very angry.
I wish it wasn't such a cruel thing to tell kids that school is NOT "The World". It's THEIR world at that point. They don't (and possibly can't) see how just a couple years of maturity can cause people whose brains actually function beyond simply keeping their hunks of meat alive to shrug off a silly little "flashing" incident like this as "kid stuff" and "no big deal".
Some young woman looking for affirmation of her worth and her beauty decides to "flaunt" her assets. Even once. How many young women have done that? Why the hell is it a huge deal?
Oh yeah, because some mouth-breathing little sociopath in her class happened to be watching and couldn't find a healthier outlet for his libido than stalking this poor girl and making her life hell.
******* I hate people some times... -
Quote:I am posting this for my wife, who shares my account:
Hello everyone,
Some of you know me as Pink Fury, 3 of 15, Bloody Bonnie Mcgee, Valshara Bashir, and an assortment of others on the Protector Server. The news of NCSoft's cancellation of City Of Heroes /City of Villains/Going Rogue hit me just as hard as the rest of you.
I don't want to just forget the game and move on; I want to remember the sights and great times I have had playing the game. I want to remember my characters, their many costumes, and friends. I want to remember my super group and villain bases. I have decided to take on a rather hefty project to remember all of this, and I am sharing it with you.
I want to make an escrapbook of the game. I realize that this is not something I can do myself, so I am asking for your help. I realize that this is thousands of people over 16 servers, so I have decided to do this by server. Using PowerPoint and PDF, I will make an escrapbook for each server.
I would like each of you to take pictures (screenshots) of your characters, and your favorite places to be in the game. I would like both shots of your characters in the pictures, and no characters in those pictures. I want pictures of your entire super group with your character names. If your characters have backgrounds--AKA a story of who they are and how they became a superhero/villain--I want that as well.
Please label each of your pictures, and send them to coxescrapbook@gmail.com. In the subject line please put the name of your server. This is so I can put the pictures in the right place. Also feel free to copy this post and spread it around to as many sites as possible, so I can start on this project.
Just so the powers that be know, I am not going to sell or make money off these escrapbooks. I will acknowledge up front the copyrights of the pictures. I am making this purely out of a labor of love.
Thank you to everyone who I have played with, met, and had a wonderful time with.
D. K. AKA 3 of 15, Pink Fury and others
PS. If you want a copy let me know whether you want it to get PowerPoint or PDF format.
Okay, have a buttload of pictures up on my site:

Feel free to make use of any or all of them. -
Hey guys. Just wondering if anyone has a toon in the old PDP map and would be willing to grab me a demorecord of it?
Trying to put together a comprehensive list of demorecords so I can video each zone. -
It really depends on the community participation.
If it's just me running as god in my own little world? It'd try it, but would probably not play that often. For all that I solo, I still enjoy teaming now and again and if not, the ability to tap friends on the shoulder and say "hi".
If we're talking a private server, and a significant number of people? Yeah, I'd seriously be there. -
Quote:Also, another confession. I was slowly buying up Centrioles at basically nothing and stuffing them into extra storage in adjunct bases, because I figured one day we'd be able to use converters on HOs.
Eventually, I would have suggested it to the devs if they didn't do it on their own.
Oh bravo!

Quote:When the SG I was a member of became mostly inactive, I basically kept everything exactly as it was, created a personal base, moved most of my alts into that, and then farmed the bejeezus out of the game until I had the largest possible base plot and ran out of storage space to put all my stuff. Then I made a villain side base and did it again. And then I started to do that two more times on different servers.
I'm still not entirely sure what the heck I was intending to do with the fusion reactor and autonomous expert system, although the AES does create a decent loft space.
I inherited my base and have been almost the sole source of prestige for it for most of my career in CoH.
I have both (Arcane and Tech) Tier 3 power and control items. Why? What was I going to do with that much power and control?
Nothing. I've been dual-aspect powered for years now. Mainly because I think the Arcane Vault door looks nicer than the Tech one.
Just wasn't sure what to do with the base beyond basic functionality. Finally placed the Dimensional Vortex.
My first Mastermind (Montgomery Burns, yes that one) on Protector was one of the ones that benefitted from a veteran bug a few years back. I was, I think at 12-18 months at the time he logged in one day as a 48 month vet...
Oh yeah, and he's never gotten beyond 10th level. I locked him there for Winter Event Winter's Gift farming.
While I'm not the richest player in the game, as of August 31st, I was sitting on somewhere in excess of half a trillion loose inf (not including items on the market and stock).
To all of you people who were paying those "crazy insane BUY IT NAO!" prices when I was listing for "low low, gotta go!", I love you!
Oh yeah. And my starter "niche" for my characters was Level 50 Range recipes. I'd rack up 20-25 million and then move on to greener pastures. But I pretty much always kept my hand in there.
So, if you ever noticed a period where the prices went up and stayed up at vendor sale price for a month, while you were trying to do the same thing, that was me essentially pushing you away towards something else.
100-200% profits are nothing to be sneered at. -
Still running my Fire/Rad group on Freedom on Mondays.
Doing Tanker Tuesdays.
Ship raids on Wednesdays.
Been going for MOSTF with Impyre's crew on Thursdays.
Fridays are kinda open for me.
Saturdays I work overnight for a long shift.
Sundays I come home and go comatose. -
If you'd like, I could go on an inane posting spree to liven things up!
No? -

Also of note. If you position yourself with the arrow keys this won't work. At least from my experience, the camera only works with WASD.
