Hmmm I got Billie by doing more newspaper missions but he won't talk to me. I hit lvl 10 before I turnded off Xp... I probably out leveled him? Although I'm the same level as when I got Bocor, yet he opened for me.

Any ideas? I can't de-lvl through debt right? So probably just Flashback for me...

    Ideas?

    [/ QUOTE ]
Do you perhaps have too many missions in your list? Or open story arcs you haven't completed? You can only have 3 missions in your list at once. I forget what the maxima are for the different sizes of story arcs (I usually do them one at a time) but you need to go back and finish any you have going from your first two contacts. You can look in your Clues tab to see if you have any on-going arcs and also the Contact will have an open book next to them in the Contact window.

    Codes?

    [ QUOTE ]
In this day of farming the first thing that popped into my head was some sort of verbal password to indicate you're "in the circle" for a particular exploit-mish and not likely to rat on it. People apparently used stuff like that back in the Egg mission days to keep it secret (and wasn't the screaming and hair-pulling mighty when that got outed on the i9 Beta forums )

    [/ QUOTE ]
Bah, meant to say i11 Beta . They all start to blur together after a while.
  3. [ QUOTE ]
I have a supergroup base with plenty of energy and control devices and fully paid up rent. Why does it tell me no energy and control are being produced?

    [/ QUOTE ]
Is it an old base from before the i13 base-item cost revamp?
  4. Oh please. Did you really think it was their dandruff that set off people's allergies?

    They grow from spores.
  5. The pumpkin is still in the list of items.
  6. [ QUOTE ]
And yeah, one of them is PvP. They introduced special PvP sets just to keep that crowd happy - sure enough they are people farming for the dern things.

    [/ QUOTE ]
That's a sad misconception. The Sets can be obtained in PVP but that's not all they're for. Just like Purple Enhancements, their Set Bonuses are permanently active from lv50 all the way down to lv1. So you can slot a lv50 for the maximum enh % and still get your Set Bonuses if you Exemplar/Malefactor at all.

Ogon_Dark and I have taken to calling them "Mauve" Sets (as in "almost purple").

They also have very nice Set Bonuses, good Enh % divisions, and some nifty Uniques/Procs. The extra Set Bonuses in PVP zones are almost gilding the lily.
  7. [ QUOTE ]
At lvl 5-9 which of these three are best to take? Is there any benefit to taking one contact over the other? I'm a tech-origin MM so perhaps salvage or something would drop more readily for me from some mobs and not others?

Just returned awhile back so relearning it all...

    [/ QUOTE ]
Billy Heck will send you on a mission that will give you a Temp Power to summon a Fire Imp pet up to 5 times (not combat useful, but a nick-nack to collect if you're into that). Angelo Vendetti will send you against the earliest Elite Boss I can think of on Villain side and has a badge mission.

Mr Bocor however, has the best story out of them all. He also has a badge mission and will send you on a mission that will get you a Temp Power to summon a Zombie up to 5 times (again not terribly combat useful but a nick-nack to collect. I really like Mr Bocor, as a contact and as a character; he's got a very solid persona.

    I say Bocor.

If you want to do more than one though, you can always turn off XP in Options under Miscellaneous. Also, from lv25+ you can use Ouroboros to flashback earlier story arcs (including ones you never played).

    Welcome Back .

(Oh and the specific Contacts won't really matter for drops. Just sell the stuff you get at the Market and don't worry about it until you're 27+ or so. Check out the Inventions Tutorial at the University in Cap au Diable from lv10+.)
  8. [ QUOTE ]
Yes, this is a serious question.

I read frequently about various players spending 100's of millions of influence for io sets and purple sets. I am wondering why.

I tend to buy some of the cheaper sets on my characters that reach 50 if I think there is any chance I may want to keep playing them. With the modest amount of time and influence I spend on this, I can do every task force, Hamidon and typical mission assignments. Thus my question...what am I missing?

I can think of only two reasons. The first is PvP. I have never done PvP and do not intend to do so. If this is a reason, I am not really missing anything.

The second reason is just to be the best you can possibly be. I understand this but just don't really care that much for my characters. I want them to be playable and able to contribute but that is all I need.

    Am I missing something else?

Thanks for taking this seriously. No offense is meant, no trolling is meant.

    [/ QUOTE ]
If you build-tweak, your character never stops progressing even if you get to 50. You are always improving a favored character.

Even if you "complete" a particular build, combat experience or simply just time will show you new adjustments you can make. Last night I noticed a major movement boost I could add for no extra endurance cost and dropped a 30 mil bid for the piece I'd need.

And if you mess with the market enough to kit-out a billion-inf build, you become familar enough with it that making money to feed builds isn't a problem. Just collecting the inf from over-night sales on one character was 75 million for me this morning.

I don't PVP, but from build tweaking I've got a Brute that stays on its feet when everything else is on the floor and an aggro-cap's worth of enemies are swinging at it.

Anyone know wtf this guy was talking about?

    [/ QUOTE ]

No, and I doubt he knew what he was talking about either.

    [/ QUOTE ]
    This.

The only other codes that come to mind are the game codes used to upgrade/open an account. Since those are one-time use i doubt those are what he meant either. i think you just ended up on one of those teams made up of misinformed fools who've invented nonexistent features/cheats for the game.

    [/ QUOTE ]

It's not invented! They Exist! For example, if you type Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious after using a Tier 1 blaster attack but BEFORE it hits and the hit kills the npc on an odd second (based on server time) you get a purple drop! Every time! But you have to type it by hand when you do it, you can't use macros, binds, copy/paste, or the Up/Enter trick. But once you try, fail or no, you have to wait 48 hours before it works for your account again.

    [/ QUOTE ]

You know, if you figured out what was the slowest moving blaster tier 1, and had it 3 slotted for range, and used boost range beforehand, and were a really fast and accurate typist, that might be possible.

Damnit, now you've got me wanting to try it out.

A sure way to the Bug Hunter badge if it works...

    Codes?

    [ QUOTE ]
I got invited to a team this morning, and as soon as I got on, one of the guys asked me if I knew any codes. I'd never heard this term before, but I asked if he meant ID numbers for AE missions, since it was the only thing I could think of that was code-like. He said no, then said "if you don't know what codes are, come back when you learn" and kicked me from the team.

Anyone know wtf this guy was talking about?

  12. You can also click the little "i" in the starburst on the navigation bar to see the mission-acceptance text.

But the best way is to just ask the team leader to please copy/paste the text into team chat .

Oh, also if you are playing on an existing character and have been gone a long time you may not be aware that there is an Invention Tutorial you can do at the Universities (Steel Canyon heroside and Cap au Diable villainside) from lv10+. That will familiarize you with the basics of Inventions and what they can and can't do.

i understand that, but why cant i equip it? i tried a damage/acc and a recharge/acc....i cant equip it...the only red message is what i typed above

    [/ QUOTE ]
Ah, you're talking about Set Enhancements. You try to drag it to the spot but it's greyed out and won't accept it?

If that's the case then you have an enhancement from a Set category that doesn't match with the power you're trying to slot it in (regardless of whether the power could benefit from Acc, Dam, or Rech). Set enhancements come in categories: Melee Damage, Targeted AoE Damage, Snipes, Heals, etc. The info for the Enh should list what category it belongs to. Also if you go into the Enhancement Management screen and mouse over a particular power, the info in the lower right should list what kinds of Sets the power will accept.

Can you say what specific Enhancement names you were trying to put in what power?

well, i'm actually a veteran player, i started in beta but i stopped after a year, and everything changed

i found someoen to answer my ah questions. but now, why cant i equip any enhance inventions...they all say they cant be combined with any others in red

    [/ QUOTE ]
Invention Enhancements function entirely different from Origin Enhancements. Unlike Origin enhancements, Inventions will not decay as you level; they will always give their stated percent. Also, the higher the level stamped on the enhancement, the greater the percentage. An even-level Accuracy SO will give 33% enh. A level 50 Accuracy Invention will give 42.4% enh.

Since they have different mechanisms from regular Origin Enhancements you cannot combine the two. You can, however, replace one with the other. Just drag them over the existing enhancement and drop them there. You'll get a pop-up warning text (which you can turn off) asking if you want to break the enhancement that is currently in that spot with the new one.

If you played for just a year after launch, you might also want to familiarize yourself with Enhancement Diversification. On the face of it this looks terribly limiting. But as it turns out, Invention Sets have allowed builds that *completely* outstrip the performance of pre-ED slotting in all categories. As a quick example: many Super Reflexes players do not bother to take the tier-9 god-mode power (Elude) anymore because with Invention Sets they can reach the same level of protection permanently and without a crash to go with it.

What questions did you have that you didn't get answered in-game?

    And Welcome to the Game.
  17. Human_Being

    A question on ED

Slotting a full set of Apocalypse will give you 101.86% Dam enhancement after ED. Note that Set Bonuses do not factor into ED. Also, when you exemplar/malefactor down your Enh % scales down. If you have greater than 100% enh, you suffer less actual drop in performance (you stay near the ED soft-cap for a greater range of levels).

You can see for yourself the prospective effects of ED by using Mids Hero Designer.
  18. [ QUOTE ]
Slotting TK Thrust with Kinetic Crash isn't a terrible idea, really. Power Push is my Kinetic Crash "mule" on my Energy/Energy, and I love the 36ish magnitude knockback.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Since i15 Power Push is a scale 1.6 attack and can do heavy damage .
  19. For starters it's worth noting that Damage Resistance itself resists Damage Resistance Debuffs, so you're more likely to keep what protections you have.

But any amount of hand-waving theory isn't as good as just seeing something in action. If you take a character (starting with less than soft-capped Def ) and put it in a stressed combat situation, a single purple or a single orange will give you about the same increase in survivability.

I'd recommend going to somewhere like the northeastern forests of Bloody Bay with their large Banished Pantheon zombie spawns. You can find spawns of the same, large size and level close together. Try fighting them, then try it with one or the other small insp. They give about the same benefit in those repeatable situations.

    Perma-dom.

[edited to add] They had to have killed something to get it rolling but once they got it started it keeps going.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Not necessarily. Whirling Hands for example requires no target.
  21. [ QUOTE ]
Is it possible? I've seen it (at least I think I did) come up on a few people lately without them fighting. How is this possible with them not doing anything to get it to come up???

    Halp meh!

    [/ QUOTE ]
You can set a power to activate as soon as it is recharged by holding Ctrl and clicking it. This doesn't work with toggles or interruptible powers.

For having Domination up permanently, you need to have enough Global Recharge on the character so that Domination recharges before the current application expires. Then it will just keep activating itself automatically.

    Just Saying Hi !

    [ QUOTE ]
Thank you, that explains a lot ! So run fassstttt from purples !

    [ QUOTE ]
Depending on your archetype (AT for short), you don't need to team. Actually, as you get more practice, you can pretty much solo on any AT.

However, watch what color the enemies are conning. That'll tell you their relative power level when compared to you. Blue, Green, and Grey enemies are weaker than you, white are about your power level, and yellow, orange, red are above your power level. Purples are much greater in power level than you, being anywhere from +4 to +46 in level to you. So watch out for purple bad guys in the early levels.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    [/ QUOTE ]
They actually explain that in the Tutorial. Do read the text in the tutorial zone; it's an important foundation for much of the rest of the game.

There's also a tutorial at lv10 (in Steel Canyon hero side or Cap au Diable villain side) for the Invention (crafting) System. Inventions are entirely optional and you don't need to mess with them if you don't want, but if you do want to get into them they can be confusing without the University Tutorial.

    Just Saying Hi !

    Welcome to the Game.

As with other people I'll say: feel free to ask any question, it's not an indictable offense to be new in this Game.

If you decide you want to come visit the Big City and want to try Villain Side, send me a PM on these forums and I'll come show you around on Freedom Server.
