Known issue. That version of Mids has been taken back down until Steiner can correct that bug as well as a number of others that were discovered.

Can you tell me what each Archetype/Origin does briefly so that I can know what I should start out as?

    [/ QUOTE ]
What do you like to play as? The AT's play differently, but some AT's have multiple different playstyles, depending on power choices.
    Origin means very little.
Tanks: Hard to kill, but low damage. Gather the foe's attention off of the weaker teammates. Some take a more offensive role.
Scrappers and Brutes: Flip out and kill things up close. Berserker mode! Some (self) defences.
Stalkers: Be sneaky, then kill stuff. Assassin.
Defenders: Buff the team, Heal the wounded or weaken the foes into nothing. And do a little shooting. Even the most healing-minded powersets are about much more than healing, and team buffs (and enemy debuffs) are more valuable in this game than in some others.
Blasters: Primarily ranged damage. Some melee damage. No defenses.
Controllers: Hold the foes, preventing them from doing harm. Do a little team buffing.
Masterminds: Summon Pets, send them forth to kill. Controlling Pet AI can be tricky.
Corruptors: Shoot stuff. Some team buffs/ enemy De-buffs.
Dominators: Control your foes, crush them as they lay helpless.

    Welcome to the Game .

In addition to the other "casual friendly" features of this game, the game begins at level 1, not at level 50. You don't need to rush to the level cap to get to the "real game"; you're in the real game as soon as you log in. So feel free to try out several characters and see what fits you. You aren't "throwing away" progress by spending time on an alt. There are even a few people who have filled up every character slot on every server with alt characters .

And last but not least, why is that posting box so tiny?

    [/ QUOTE ]

    [/ QUOTE ]

There's an option somewhere to increase the height of that box, but it's been too long since I did it for me to remember where it is....

Also: next weekend is double xp weekend. This is a MUCH anticipated event. As such, certain servers may seem unavailable at times, namely Freedom and Virtue. Now, the fact is if you keep switching between servers at the server selection screen, you will eventually be able to get onto those servers at some point.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Going to the Server Select screen, exiting back out to Login, then going back in - the longest I've had to wait to get into Freedom (the most populated server) during a recent event is two minutes.

If someone can pass the message along to him, please thank Steiner for his efforts.
  5. The Scrapper is the most "in your face" Hero class.

But the Brute is the most "in your face" Villain class.

Scrappers have an inherent power where all of their attacks have at least a 5% chance of doing double damage on each attack. The Brute has a "Fury" meter that builds up the more the Brute attacks or is-attacked; up to a potential +200% damage buff.

Both Brutes and Scrappers have the same degree of protection in their armor powers (roughly 3/4 of what Tanks get), but Brutes have significantly more HP underneath those protections.

It's a point of debate which class is better at melee, and largely the answer to the question is based on personal taste. I'll tell you the Brute is better . For your purposes though, the difference is: The Scrapper is Hero side, the Brute is Villain side. Try both.

If you're going to be playing melee, I have a recommendation for you. When you enter the game with a new melee character, move the power icons in your Power Tray down so that the "1" spot is empty. Then type:

    /macro Kill "target_enemy_near$$follow"

That will put a little macro button in your power tray at the "1" spot that will auto-target the closest enemy in camera-view and run you into melee range with them. If the target tries to flee, you'll move with them as they try to run.

Welcome to the Game and Have Fun .

my gf and i are thinking about doing the silver mantis tf together. she is a lvl 50 db/invul (fully IO'd) and im a lvl 50 fort (full IO'd and pass the postional defense cap).

we just got ourselves shivans, and now gettin all the nukes from warburg to buff the shivans / us and debuff the AV on the last mish. we plan on using the crafted buffs u can get from our VG base on the last mish as well.

so the question is, how do u think this duo will do? any suggestions? never done this SF before

    [/ QUOTE ]
With malefactored loss of set bonuses and powers, bring Purple inspirations to keep both of you at the 45% Def level for as long as possible.
  8. [ QUOTE ]
I'd say 20 is a better bet before hitting AE... it doesn't take as long as you'd think.

EDIT: Actually, come to think of it, trial accounts can't use AE (the mission editor). Still, if/when you activate, stay out of AE for a while. You're overall experience with the game will benefit from it.

    This is good advice.

    The Help channel

    [ QUOTE ]
I'm wondering if the change in commands has kept all the newer players from being able to use it. /Help seemed like such an intuitive way to use it.

Any similar experiences to mine out there?

    [/ QUOTE ]
Yes. The change killed Help channel dead for new players. Leading up to the change several issues ago, I used to monitor Help channel to answer questions for new players and team with them a bit. I've had *three* people come back to me after that and specifically say that they subscribed to the game because of what I showed them and the help I gave.

Since the Help Channel change I haven't done that once. The new players have vanished from the channel.

This is a change that really shot the game in the foot.

Well if anything I'm kinda glad this was my first experience, I got to see how nice and responsive the comunity is. ^_^ Hope to see some of you around.

Welcome to the Game. Feel free to come back here and ask any other questions.
  12. [ QUOTE ]
Hey Everyone! I'm new at the game and when i say new i mean i patched right about a few hours ago and have a 15 day free trial. When i finished my super cool hero (:P) I hit "play the tutorial" but when i started there was no UI. No buttons showing my hit points, chat or anything. After a minute of pressing every button i made the chat window come up with enter key and the target with "t" and well that's about it. So i kept going through the missions and when they where explaining my powers and everything else it showed a picture of a window i didn't have with my health bar and the XP progress and everything else that's needed. Then i pressed ALT+ every key and i got a window with my powers and some super speed and a temporary attack.

Is this normal or is it just me? Do you get to use the UI only if you have the account and not a free trial? Is there a way to make all the windows that are default appear? Any help would come in handy.

    Thanks in advance,
    The Sixth Illusion

    [/ QUOTE ]
That's an extremely rare bug. I've never heard of it hitting someone in tutorial like that; sorry about that =/.

Here's what you try: hit the \ key (the "backslash"). That should open up a Menu list. In that Menu List click "Options". In the window that pops up, make sure you're set to the General tab (should default to that), then scroll down to the Window section. Click Reset Windows.

That should fix things. If it doesn't, please come back and tell us.

    Doesn't include the important ones.

Great advice, all. Had a nice session in the Hollows, and made the contact with Meg. Figuring out Hover also gives me some sense of how to navigate. It slowly starts to make sense...

    [/ QUOTE ]
Meg Mason is just infinitely repeatable missions. She isn't part of the Hollows story proper. That comes from the other contacts, starting with Wincott and going onto the Outcast he introduces you to.
  17. [ QUOTE ]
Milady's, that sounds pretty clever. I now have the Numina unique slotted in transfusion for a total of five Numinas there. I have been considering going to 6 Numinas there for the Ranged Defense bonus... but I could then go to four instead and move the Unique to Health?

    [/ QUOTE ]
Correct. And the Regen from the Numina's unique is slightly more than you would get from the Enhancement bonus of a lv50 Heal generic IO.

    [ QUOTE ]
I found her! Only once so far though and she was conning yellow to my 50. Gave a nice blaze to the eye, that's right her eye. She was looking at me funny.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Yeah. And I bet she just calmly submerged didn't she? You didn't bother her much; she didn't even consider you worth killing.

If you can get her to fight back, that's the sign she thinks you're a threat.
  19. Human_Being

    Sally

    /macro Look "targetcustomnext sally"

Type that in with a power-tray spot open. Then click the little grey button as you fly around. It will target her at maximum reticle range, which is actually beyond draw distance.

You can keep the macro button and right-click to edit it when you want to change what you are looking for.
  20. [ QUOTE ]
Wow! Quick responses, and extremely helpful! I had the hollows mission, got thoroughly confused about how to get there (kept getting killed as I was clearly passing through an area way too difficult for me) then dropped it in the hopes of getting a different kind of quest. I'll head back to the map (I'm getting more comfortable with it) and find a way to the hollows.

Thanks for the advice on the Tram too. I thought I had seen something about it, but couldn't find anything about it.

    Thanks again!

    [/ QUOTE ]
Easiest way into the Hollows is from a door in the East wall of Atlas Park, which is a minimum-level zone. Since it's a Hazard Zone, there is no direct train-service to the Hollows.
  21. Thee Winnah an' still champeen, with ah complete ansah in seven minits: Aett_Thorn!

Welcome to the Game, Calrissian. You can get a kind of "map" for the missions with either Redtomax or Paragonwiki. The former is easier to read at a glance; the latter has more detail. Missing from the Redtomax list, but highly recommended as it is the most recent hero-specific content added, is the Faultline contacts from lv15-lv25. Faultline has excellent story to it.

This is a casual game and there is no need to rush through the levels. The game starts at lv1, not at lv50. So take your time and Have Fun .

Speaking of which, a previous quote from Steiner on the subject of installing the upcoming version:
    [ QUOTE ]
Keep an eye on Titan, because the program is still looking at Mids' site for the update info... the new version will be an overwriting install able to be downloaded from http://cohplanner.com. Again, keep your eye on it. A news post will be applied upon its launch.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    [/ QUOTE ]
Meaning it will not automatically update upon opening?

Anyone who doesn't read the forums is going to miss that...

EDIT: Anyone who doesn't read *that post in particular* on the forums is going to miss it....
  23. [ QUOTE ]
First off, I'm not 50 yet and I'm not anywhere close to needing to go back and do old arcs. So this is just out of curiousity from reading other forum posts...

When you go back and do old arcs, do you get to go at full power? Or is it like exemplaring? Do you get the arc level influ or level 50? Just curious.

I know so little about it, my questions might not even make sense. >.<

    [/ QUOTE ]
You don't have to wait until 50 to go back and do an arc you enjoyed or a bit of story you think might be important. Just have fun with it and in this game there is no requirement to rush to the level cap.

    Welcome to the Game.
  24. [ QUOTE ]
Once in the combat attributes window you can right click on any of the categories and monitor them. There is a limit to how many you can monitor though. I don't know what it is since I usually only monitor a couple. Exp to next level and Inf.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Ranged Def and Smashing Resist are two good ones to have up so you can see how threatened you are from enemy attacks. If a bunch of assault rifles have debuffed your Def down to -30, you're going to be taking a lot more damage than normal over the next few seconds. If your Resistance has been debuffed, any hits that land are going to matter a lot more.

Last Hit Chance will let you know how threatened an enemy is by you (and how well you've slotted your powers). It's entirely reasonable to be at the 95% Hit Chance cap all the time. If you're not, slot some more Acc. Also, if you are suddenly swinging at 35% against that purple-con boss, it may be time to choose discretion over valor.
