Just a couple of things - We're hunting Requiem, right? We already smashed Nemesis...
Tonight is supposed to be the Hami raid, with a lot of us saying we'd be there (me, Gid, FFM, and shadowghost as I remember, may have been more) - is there any chance we can wait a bit before the ship run to give the raiders time to get back? -
Ask yourself the following question - If I could be any superhero character, which one would I be?
When you daydream, which character do you put yourself in the role of?
Now ask yourself - why?
There will be some aspect of this character that you strongly relate to, more than anything else. That's the bit you need to find and base your character on, that's the bit that needs to be there to make you "comfortable" playing the character.
It might be a personality quirk - Batmans elusiveness, the teenage drama inherent in magical girls, Superman's constant love triangle with his alter-egos, but that's the only bit you need to keep.
Then build the rest of the character to go round it, since from the sound of it building characters wasn't the bit you have problems with, it was finding the spark you needed to make them live. -
For PvP Psi makes a fairly nice secondary - it helpfully sneaks round most of the resistances.
For PvE it's still a nice secondary, unless you're magic or tech origin - although this is less of a problem since you'll have a dedicated group and hopefully never need to solo.
(edit)
Or natural, I forgot about the council mechmen.basically Psi has great range, good damage, some nice soft control options, and the irritating downside that there are entire villian groups immune to you. Banished Pantheon, Carnies and anything robotic (except clockwork, which are vulnerable)

Last Night, Doc arrived at the statue late and tired to say hullo to a few people who remained at the ungodly hour of past-midnight.
[/ QUOTE ]
And spent most of his time seeing how big an afro he could give Minny before she either tried to kill him or collapsed under it's weight - I think her grew her hair so it got to 5 foot - that's bigger than she is!
poor girl didn't have an afro, she looked like a hedgehog! -
I'll volunteer for any of these (ummm, that was a given right?
)
I have the striga arc on an alt, and while it doesn't really make sense for her to go IC, I'm happy to stick superior invis on and GM (or being lazy, I'm happy to stick superior invis on and give Doc my keyboard)
Don't forget there's a psi clockwork mission later on the Requiem Arc (it's actually the next on Hiki has I think) if you can't get the actual clockwork king one. -
You'll need about 2mil from memory for a "fully functional" base.
First build a workroom, the new storage racks and buff creators fortunately don't need power and control. Next the power and control rooms - the basic generator and mainframe will just about provide enough power to run a teleporter and a medbay from memory, I know we had to keep juggling with our worktables.
You'll be close to getting these three in with what you already have (you can definately get the rooms down, not sure if you can place all the items you need)
Then it depends on what your priorities are what you place next - the medbays aren't amazing. You get dropped somewhere random in your last zone, so they're only really useful if you were in a hazard zone, and you don't come back on full health.
Teleporters are probably more useful, especially since we've been promised beacons for the normal CoH zones "soon".
The following isn't certain, but I think you get the best prestige/time returns from bosses and AV's, you certainly get the best XP/prestige ratio. -
Not long to go now. Where should empaths with epic holds be going? (dominate and telekenisis)
Or should I just turn up in green with a purple stripe and go to the first team that grabs me? -

Define too drunk, hmm?

The point at which you come online, and start rewriting Mary Poppins songs spontaneously.
Sadly, I think Doc was sober the first time round. -
Does this mean you're not comming hunting for missing ritual components? Poor Mina...
-
I know he's going to kill me, but I'd like to nominate Gideon.
Continual lurker, with a good sense of decency, and quiet enough to stay neutral in pretty much any arguement. -
Prize - quoting from you origional nomination on the GG thread in union.

Ringmaster
Prize.. Not on as much as we/he would like but always there for new players and happy to answer questions. Plus lets face it.. it is Prize's bat and ball we play with every night.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'd say that's a pretty big indication that your founder status was being taken into account.
Brighteyes may not have intended the impression given, but his was.
[ QUOTE ]
Brighteyes
Prize especially deserves that position,
[/ QUOTE ]
Especially deserves? Why? To me that implies some indication that you deserve special consideration, especially without elaboration.
So I'd say FFM may not have had the most diplomatic phrasing, but the intent was in the right place and necessary. You are on a pedestal, for better or for worse, I just hope that you can live up to the ideal we all have of you. -
Umm, all FFM said was that your position as founder, one which does admittedly put you in high regard amongst the roleplayers, shouldn't entitle you to special considerations such as automatic Mod status.
This counts double because of your long absence. I can only remember you very briefly from your first comeback, and I'm one of the longest running survivors (and that's scary)
Is asking people not to put you on a pedestal and judge your worthiness to be a mod by the same criteria as everyone else a negative comment? -
Personally, I favour independant moderation, but so many people are crying out for "structure" or "order" that I thought it best someone put it down on paper what this would mean.
I've always felt GGOOC was far more somewhere to discuss the football, or what RP games you like, or how your job is going than somewhere to discuss rules mechanics or the OOC running of the statue.
Maybe I got the wrong end of the stick? -
Ok, can people stop behaving like children and treating this like a popularity contest?
Either GGOOC has nothing to do with GG other than as a useful service provided to members, in which case it doesn't matter who the mods are so long as they're there and visible, or it's integral to GG, at which point the mods do matter.
If people are going to opt for the second then I'd like to request that the mods be representative of the membership, with one for each supergroup attending the statue and one "neutral" responsible for new members and holding the casting vote.
We can have one or the other, right now we've got the first and it seems to work, precisely because the mods don't visibly exercise power except to stop abuse.
I will also note that under the second system either FFM or Ghost would have to step down, and any other Cirque member would be prevented from moderating. -
It depends on exactly what you want.
Beds are hard - your options are the rustic cot, two examination tables complete with manacles, or a rough straw pallet - at least in the "proper" stuff.
If you're willing to get creative, it's possible (although I've never managed barracks)
there's lots of chairs, and tables with magazines, with careful placement a monitor makes a good flatscreen TV. The furniture is small in the massive rooms they give us, 1 "tile" looks like a smallish room in comparison to the furniture size, so either use a much larger room than you want and add some walls, or use bookcases/blue filing cabinets as dividers to make the rooms smaller.
"Creative" use of some of the pieces is also possible - curved sofa segments round the wrong way make a reasonable pool or bath, you can make a rough double bed out of a couple of chaise-lounges - the placement system isn't great for this, but it is possible.
A military-style barracks however I don't know how to do - I can't think of anything that makes a reasonable bunkbed. -
Slight Hijack - what would people recommend as pool powers for an ilu/kin?
Right now I'm taking stamina (only 20 atm) and leaping with SJ with a view to respecing once IR and transfusion are available, but not sure what to replace them with.
My partner is a grav/kin, and I've noticed from him that with just transfusion he sometimes has endurance issues with leadership toggles running, is stamina worth keeping after all? -

((pitures will go up sometime tonight, links will not work in the meantime)) -
Not sure if this is necessary or not, but...
Is it worthwile asking people to give certain personal information (specifically age and country of origin) since on the live servers this information is given, and public channels are (technically) moderated.
We tend not to run at PG13, graphic torture and murder break it I believe, along with pornography rules IIRC. I'm not saying it's likely to be an issue, but I know some of our newer members are under 18, and if we don't know who mods can't ask them to leave an unsuitable channel if it ever does become an issue.
Basically it's to cover Lorne's back, since we're running on a private server, so if anyone got into trouble it would be the owner.
That said, I'm over 18, so gimmie the server details. -
I'd prefer an Ultimates continuity, I'd find that easier actually than keeping an IRC set continuous to the "live" CoH based storyline. But that's my personal preference, I'm willing to go with the concensus.
Lots of us have expressed an interest, I'm certainly willing to give it a go. I'm even willing to try simultaneously roleplaying 616 on CoH, 616 on IRC and Ultimates on IRC, although I think that will require a lot of sleep beforehand.
So, with that in mind, and since there does seem to be interest, what's the next step? -
Not that I'm implying in any way that Hiki needs some retconning, but I think they'll be an ultimate Mina in there somewhere.
Now if only I could work out away to apply the same changes to the live version... -
((Posted here since its not strictly part of the open Requiem plot, can those involved drop me a PM/email/MSN since this is almost at conclusion and I think Ill get lynched at the next meetup if someone cant be there cos I mis-scheduled

26/06/06, 5:46am, Temporis Laboratory, Medlab
Hikari put her hand to her head and sat up, soft beeps of the medsensors around her almost reassuring. Min was perched on the end on the bed, faint dark circles starting to show round her eyes.
You ok? You were out for ages, I was starting to get scared She waves a hand around the medbay, taking in the other 6 filled beds. They all fell asleep hours ago, Sara-ane went looking for coffee.
Hikari nodded at her, a faint wave of light-headdedness sweeping over her as she settled properly back into her body and sat up. I found them, eventually Circe? Its a Nemesis dimension, I saw Warhulks and Jaegers
Circes voice seemed to come from everywhere and nowhere. She often used a drone to project her image to the speaker, but her sensors and speakers where everywhere inside the lab.
Acknowledged, Miss Minako, applying limitations to the dimensional search. 20,000 dimensions and falling. Estimated time to completion is 16 hours 47 minutes due to other system requirements.
Hikari winced as Circe called her Minako, seeing Min do the same. She reached over to take her hand, giving it a quick squeeze. Itll be over soon. Theyre the same as us She looks at the six rescued scientists, torn in half by the immense energy of a dimensional rupture. Well find a cure for them, maybe it can be a cure for us too
Min nodded slowly Circe said it will be hours, can we sleep now? Im tired
Hikari nodded at her, her own lack of sleep starting to catch up with her. Lets go stop Sara getting that coffee.
Hikari walked out of the medbay, Min pausing to look back at the sleeping scientists with an odd expression on her face before wincing as the pain of an overstretched soul-bond began and hurrying after Hikari. -

Personally, I usually cripple my character with flaws first and then add the skills.
[/ QUOTE ]
Flaws are the fun bit, extra goodies are an added bonus!
Although it reminds me of a LARP I once played - system override. Points were a little - scarce, so in order to conpensate, we ended up playing a military unit who were all badly shellshocked from the near destruction of their unit, or fresh out of rehab.
We had a guy with a minigun and nam-style flashbacks, a combat engineer who took her orders from a doll, an elf with a paranoid hatred of trees (they were out to get him)
Even when they changed the system and took away the flaw points, we stayed crazy. In fact, I think the new characters may have actually been crazier. -
My personal view is that "normal" humans go to the Zig, those who aren't murderers or insanely powerful then get fines and community service orders and released. Basically the same as our current penal system, since having powers isnt a crime.
"Controlled" humans who haven't been changed in some way go to secure asylums for deconditioning and counselling, then allowed to go back to their normal lives.
Changed humans (Lost mutates, devoured) go to secure labs working on reversing the condition (or at least that are *supposed* to be, since many should be Crey funded they could actually be doing anything)
Non-living constructs (Clocks, mech men, vhaz zombies etc) get sent to scrap yards/the graveyard for reburial.
The ones I have to carefully not think about are the Rikti We cant deport them, conscripts probably come under the changed humans rule, but the others are conscious traitors, and offworld portals, since I doubt they have mediport systems for the victims, and arresting offworld criminals is probably a bit much for our penal system. -
I don't think there's much doubt which side I'm on.
In my opinion, an unflawed character is very very hard to play, and if played well boring not only for the player but for those around them too.
Flaws come in two "flavours" - Character flaws, and power flaws.
Character flaws are what means you don't live a perfect life, lacking and wanting for nothing, with nothing to hurt you, with no reason to go out and better yourself because you already have everything.
This is the one that's hard to do, and boring for a player, because as a hero it means you can't ever fail - as soon as you fail to save someone, you gain a flaw.
Power flaws are what means you don't always have the answer, have to rely on others around you, and allow you to fail. You can have phenominal cosmic power, but still have limitations. They can even be caused by character flaws (a disbelief in your own power or a refusal to use everything are both power and character flaws)
Hiki's firmly in the middle of the power flaws camp, and a quivering wreck somewhere at the bottom of the character flaws pile - that girl has enough neurosies to give an entire university masters degrees in psycology. -
IC 22/6/6, 4:43am
Hikari stared numbly at the wall in front of her, eyes open but staring into space, sleep impossible. Molok had said there would be dreams, but dreams required sleep, and the images that played in her mind came even without.
Screams, of pain, of rage, of terror, the screams of the newly dead and the image of the corpse on the pavement below her.
Hikari turned over restlessly, not closing her eyes. They stung, tears she could no longer cry trying to form. She hugged her arms to her chest, rocking slightly. Memory tore at her, the memories that hurt so much not the death itself, but the recall of her own actions, her own feelings.
The corpse again, and herself looking down at it dispassionately, as if it mattered no more than the scattered bullet casings and rubble.
Hikari sat up with a tortured sob, calling out to CIRCE for the lights to come on. Struggling to her feet, she walked over to her desk picking up a fountain pen sitting on the side.
Six she muttered to herself. Paulo Lorentz, he had two children, theyre orphans now With a chocked sob she drove the pen down into her forearm, scoring a deep cut along her arm as she gritted her teeth again the pain.
David Silverstein, supporting his aged mother. Another gash, and now the tears came again. Edgar Schneider, his first child due in 2 months Henrik Klein, waiting for a letter from his sweetheart Karl Weiss, father of four Rudi Knecht, 2 months from retirement, waiting to grow roses
Six bright red lines, three on each forearm. One for each man shed failed, watched die and not tried to save, no mediport beacon of hope for them beyond the portals.
Hikari bowed her head, tears flowing freely for a few moments before she looked up at the papers covering her desks. Six scientists, missing somewhere in the multiverse, six lives she could still save.
Wiping the tears from her eyes, her face resolute now, she started to work, sleep now subsumed by intent.
