  1. the only convention I really go to for the time being due to money is the local con here, Phoenix Comicon.
  2. [ QUOTE ]
Thor, it's like... a freakin playground for geeks like us. It's just endless geekery and awesomeness... My friend literally ran into Joss Whedon on the floor while on her way to a Heroes panel.

I'm taking my guy for his first time. Couple pointers... for folks.

    1. Con Hotel Room rates start in January usually, you should be up at freakin 6AM to call in and HOPE you get a room. The majority of us just deal with getting normal hotel rates six to ten months in advance. Hotels sell out that quickly :/
    2. Comic Con is huge, don't plan to see all of the convention floor in one day. I remember when it was still basically ONE football field across... it is now four football fields across. Bring walking shoes.
    3. Don't waste your money on Con Food. The Gaslamp Quarter and further up on Broadway and F street I believe is the Horton Plaza, eats there are cheaper. There's always a grocery store to stock up on snackage, Ralphs to be exact.
    4. Have a gameplan. Nothing sucks worse than missing your fave artist signing or panels. Most of my friends and I plan out a few weeks before con what panels we want to attend and where we want to meet up.
    5. TXT Messaging is awesome for having to find people in a very noisy convention hall. Have a meetup point near the entrance of the hallways so if you get seperated, you know where you can find each other.

on the money there exactly. I'll add to number 3 as an alternative, if you live in town, or if you have the option of driving to SDCC or any con for that matter, just take yer own food, and toss snacks into your backpack.

Also added to number 4, this depends on the size of the con and number of artist there, but pre plan to group the comics or whatever you want to get signed in bunches and in different boxes, if you have that much stuff to bring along. This for SDCC specifically, try to get into the parkign spots below the con center itself. This way as you get stuff signed, you can plan between signings to walk down trips to your car, dump the signed stuff and grab the next bunch of stuff to be signed. This might be a bit harder to do for other con, depending on their paring layout, but the idea still applies.

Have fun for anyone whos going to the Con, I have to settle for hte local one here this year, er next year.

And Blood, there's a lot of different cons for different shows and idea out there, should check out the webz for this. Hell there's even a thing called glamourcon for pinup girls and models and stuff lol A gal I know that used to play COH who does glamour modelling for a living went there one year as an experiment from the agency who represents her. It's an agency that usually handles runway models, so they weren't sure if glamourcon would be good for her. She didn't seem all that impressed or see any benefit of going to it every year but it was worth a shot. Kinda neat to know a con like that exists as well. heh

    Tank Vs. Brute

same, the eyes drew me in immediately.

Observers might be better for a followup piece, one where the two are in the midst of battle that causes a lot of commotion and draws attentions

I'm suddenly reminded of Chasing Amy and the classic "You're a tracer" scene....

I think before 3D came around, inkers caught this same kind of flack.

    [/ QUOTE ]

heh, first time I ever went to the San Diego Comic Con, I got the chance to talk to BATT, one of the more famous inkers I knew of since I got back into comics via Tow Cow series. That scene in Chasing Amy was one of the questions I asked him about. He said when the movie first came out it really wasn't anything he was interested in seeing so right away it didn't make a difference until afterwards everyone, including other comic book professionals, including writers, pencillers and even inkers, around him start in with the "Tracer" jokes. He admitted at first due to that he didn't like the movie too much and took him awhile to actually go see it for himself. At that point he kinda just laughed it off. He knew what the movie was getting at, the common misperception and just takes it as that. The movie and like still bugs him a little to this day, but its nothing major, as anyone has seen his work anyway knows his work is well beyond just of a tracer.
  13. the more pronounced beard is a nice touch, I really didn't see it much at first in other works, in this its one of the first details I noticed.

Love this piece. Made me immediately think of Gogo Yubari for some reason, an almost innocent kind of malice, if such a thing exists.

    [/ QUOTE ]

good point on that... hadn't thought of it in that way.

    Lego Synchrotron

ooo nice adaptation of the robot arm, that's not something standard among lego pieces. awesome work
  16. Any of my chars in my Heriverse, see my sig, are welcome for drawing practice. to ya.
  17. Sweet, was hoping you were planning on doing so, cause ya got my curiosity up to see this random button result. I know those costumes can look pretty blah and hard to look at. I think I went through a whole server full of them to help a friends SG when the SG member cap and prestige thingie happened, so i was quickly making chars and just using the random button, mildly changing a few details here and there on the costumes so I could atl east stand looking at them lol
  18. even for a rough draft I'm envious... that's lookin slick!

In olden times I would be revered as a god, the San Fernando Hill Tribes would give me all the best leftover virgins, and I could have shoes made from empty Pringles canisters... but alas those days are gone and I have to get my shoes at Payless.

Miss? I'll have whatever he's having
  20. [ QUOTE ]
I am so jumpy right now, cause when yer pc dies suddenly, touching it again is like you never know when it's gonna disappear... as for my issues? Um some would say I've always had them, and YOU are just figuring that out. I believe since the age of 14 I've been classified as being on a natural high. I don't need alcohol or drugs, I was born this way. Though I won't say no to a shot of Mezcal, some carnitas and shooting the ceiling with my pistolero... okay that last part didn't sound right.

    [/ QUOTE ]

actually... considering ya have issues.... it fits right in don't it?
  21. anyone notice Bobby goes flippy every time after his compy gets a second life... er third life er whatever number life this is? :P
  22. yeah the Disney look is quite good, not all can do that or do it well, and I'd guess its only bad to have a Disney look if you're specifically trying for something NOT to look like Disney lol
