  1. LOL Yeah I've done that in the beginning and was wondering why my power didn't activate and then when I looked, the power was gone (MMO Noob then). CoH was my very first MMO ever and while I was upset, I was "Broadcasting" (embaressing moment) of where did my Power go, it was in my tray and it was gone. Unknowingly dragged out.

    But this style posted above gives me a tremenodous control over my toons especially controllers. The reason why I haven't made any PB's or WS's because of all the new additional stuff it gets as you gradually level-up and the new power content they have. That is a problem I haven't figured out and "Binding" maybe simple to most, I've not yet begin to understand that method yet. Although, there is a thread on "Binding" and something about a "Master Pop-up Menu" if I am not mistaken which is worth checking out (when I understand the binding system).

    Now there is another thing called "Macro". I normally run four accounts while farming, thats three trollers set on follow to main and auto attack of one-power to my target which works okay but if I can better understand this "Macro" which supposly controls all toons at once as long as their powers or matchable power type is equipped on the same exact keypad's keys.

    On my controllers esspecially my ill/rad, the only time I use my mouser is to click on a Inspir/s or activate a location to activate range powers like PA, SP and Phantasm of that sort.

    Did a few changes, this may seem a bit more resonable. The IW recharge was way over the ED so whilke the numbers may look good on Mids, I don't think you will actually see the effect ingame. Also took those extra slot and divided them elsewhere and reslotted a few other powers that may proove more valuable. Check it out.

  3. I thought I would toss this thread out there. It is understood that most players control their AT by the Keypad's keys of: A (move left), W (move forward), D (move right) and S (move back) and then uses the mouser to click targets and click powers on the Power tray/s. Is this method most common with most players? Because if it is so, I find that very challenging to perform.

    Well, I did somewhat the same when I first beganned playing CoH but I used the arrow keys to move and then the mouser to click targets and powers which became very annoying. So later on figured out that the numers on the Power tray/s represents the actual numbers on the Keypad. To make a long discussion shorter, I managed to put my most usable attack/buff powers on the Keypad numbers (1), (2), (3), (4), and (5). These are in sequence due to effectiveness and quick recharging powrers from (1) to (5) on Tray Number #1, #2 and #3. For an example, Char is placed on (1) on the Power tray #1 for its quick recharge and effectiveness while Cinders is on (5) because of its long recharging rate and FlashFire is on button (4) because it recharges faster than Cinders. This style increases the detail of comfort to lessen the reach for button (5).

    Now additional powers in simular were placed in the "Alt + Power tray #2, (1) to (5)". Powers like Healing, and team buffing like Speed Boost and so forth. It is easy to learn this methid because my left thumb is always on the "Spacebar" and so is the left "Alt" button next to the left of it (Which do NOT stack and unstack the Power trays like the "Right-Alt" button do).

    Now for the personal buffs like Transfusion, BU, Aim, Hibernate and Phases? Well those powers I placed on the Power Tray #3 from (1) to (5). The toggles? I've place those on the right-side of any of the 3 Power Trays (Except the debuffing or offensive toggles which too are on Power tray #3 for easy access since they are offensive toggles like Radiation Emmission toggles. Power tray #4 is positioned Horizontally between Power Trays 1,2 and 3 and the left bottom corner of the screen. Thats where I place temp powers, base teleporters, accolades and such.

    Now the targetting. I used the "Delete" button to select thru villains, the "End" button (between the "Delete" and "Page-Down" button) to select the Nearest Foe then I use the "Page-Down" button to select thru friends and/or Allies. Why have I chosen "Delete", "End" and "Page=Down" buttons? Well they are exactly above the "Arrow" keys which I use to get around with - rather its Fly, SS and/or SJ.

    Reason why I use this method is because it is very useful, less stressful on trying to target a villain bouncing around (specially PVP) with the mouser and quite efficient while navigating thru the map and selecting the targets with your middle finger. yes the long one. Also very compfortable having the keypad on my lap while I lay back at play with my arms resting ont the Armrest of the chair. Same method can be used with a Laptop as well.

    Hope this is useful for some because it is indeed a very useful method especially for controlling controllers.
  4. Okay here is the ideal respec build. Now I've mentioned before that the Def Sheild is hardly toggled when I am playing so even when it is, it don't take much to take me out but if played right (Another reason I love this toon) I don't if even ever get hit nor targetted by my villain mobs (PVE). So instead of the Ice Shields, decided to go with another debuffing attack, Ice Storm with a 25' radius which is decent enough which also not slows them but does DoT of a period of time. Can't perma that baby but I got many other toys to play with while recharging. It recharges in 21 sec after duration wears off.

    Did I say how much I love this AT type? OH! Okay

    Noticed: Recall friend is useful but ... tch tch tch I need that extra slot to put that 5th LoTg 7.5% global recharge in it. I know it may sound silly but .... thinking about my toon, what was I saying? [cozy smile eys half opened] Anyway ... I may go with the Spiritual Incarnate now. Extra recharge is and can be superb.

  5. Okay here is the ideal respec build. Now I've mentioned before that the Def Sheild is hardly toggled when I am playing so even when it is, it don't take much to take me out but if played right (Another reason I love this toon) I don't if even ever get hit nor targetted by my villain mobs (PVE). So instead of the Ice Shields, decided to go with another debuffing attack, Ice Storm with a 25' radius which is decent enough which also not slows them but does DoT of a period of time. Can't perma that baby but I got many other toys to play with while recharging. It recharges in 21 sec after duration wears off.

    Did I say how much I love this AT type? OH! Okay

    Noticed: Recall friend is useful but ... tch tch tch I need that extra slot to put that 5th LoTg 7.5% global recharge in it.     I've posted that thread of mine above on your guide as well and too read what you have said about the Incarnates and why of which in your point of factual view is very sound. So YES!! I do agree too and now I must really respec my build, i had no idea of how that Soulbound proc activated within. And for the pets that too I didn't know which is very, very gooooodd. =D

    Now I will try to retweaked the build and doing so, I'm going to loose 10% global recharge because I have Hover and Super Invis 6 slotted, I will retweak that to gain a few slots and maybe stretch a few powers to maximum damage. Also I hardly ever, ever toggle my Epic Shield so I may drop that for Ice Storm.

    I will post the build on your Guide Local Man.

    Anyway, it may be time to respec it again. But before I do, need to know how will the, "Achile Heel's Proc" proc off in Radiation Infection Toggle? Will the chance to tick, tick every so and so seconds on Radiation Infection since it is a toggle? Or will the chance goes off by % when I click on the toggle?

    And too, I see that some put a Chance for Build Up from Soulbound Allegiance in their builds on PA with a combo of another Soulbound Allegiance Acc/Dam/Rech for that additional 16% added Regen. Now that said since PA is not a toggle, a very long recharge wich lessens the chance for BU, why is it viable on a non-toggle and on a long recharging power besides the additional added bonus of Regen?

    Also, I decided to go with the Incarnate Musculature for the extra damage - and it modiefies Immobilization Duration, Defense Debuff, Endurance Modification. Is this viable for an ill/rad vs other Incarnate abilities?

    New: Now that I've read the good, the bad and the ugly from Local Man's point of view on why to choose what type of Incarnate for an ill/rad, I may either go with Spiritual or cardiac. Reason why I thought of aiming for Masculature is because of alll the red inspirs I tend to get and it seems what ever I am lacking in, the inspir drop inspires me, (at least the NPC engine is telling me thats what I am lacking during missions because I gets a boat load of them).

PA is what gives the ill/rad or any ill/? for that matter the upper edge to perform his/her cast of illusions to control. Why would anyone build an ill/? without PA gets me................................................ ...............................

    .................................................. .................. Thats like turning a scrapper into a blaster, skip all the melee attacks and select range powers from (primaries with range attacks) and range epics like Blaze Mastery for Char and so forth. Thats silly.

    Wow, thats amazing plus like you said,I would be adding some damage into Blind as well.

    Well for Ling Rad, I've used it on few Ltnts and it seemed it didn't slow them at all so I thought if I 3 slot it and franken slot them with acc/slow from three different slow sets, it would show some slow activity in progress. I may rethink that and one slot it too.

    Well ... =D LOL For the Micro, I have one sitting in the base so I figured I'l slot it up but now that you have mentioned that there on the speed cap and all, I may respec out of that. Another reason why I may respec is that ss & cj combo with this kind of AT troller doesn't feel complete. I've read what you have said about fly & hover being your favorite on your ill/rad, ... I'm beginning to feel the same on that matter too. So when I respec, I may have an additional 400 mill =D.

    Right now, I have the pets, stamina, Enerv Field and hasten slotted and took it out on a test run, PA does decent amount of damage and thats without my Rad toggles (not yet slotted).

    On the overall, for the past 4 years, I do NOT know why in the HECK I didn't make one of these AT's before. It is beginning to grow on me very strong this AT type. I am most definitely loving this toon already. Now thinking onmaking 2 more, ill/TA and ill/cold.... YES!

    I will retweak another build with the Flight pool and post it up. Also noticed that the way that I do play this troller, Defense is not needed altho i do get mezzed a bit here and there (without IW) but not as much often now since I hit them w/out aggroing the mob.
  13. Okay, this is the build I will go with. Local man you are sound as always with good advice and suggestions. So this build here will really depend on my skill to play it vs. needing soft-capped Def to strategically survive an onslaught while solo. So I've dropped the Fighting Pool. Manuevers is only a slot mule and won't be toggled if need be.

    Thanks to everyone's help, I am ready to strip the trainers away and load up the real deal.

  14. Okay, I do understand that if one is controlling correctly depending on most of any situations, defense is not needed. However, I do plan on playing this toon specifically for solo purposes (not pvp) and too assist with teamswhere an alternative build can be created for team friendly powers.

    After checking the market ... like after 4 months absences, the prices are too extreme. I remember when I can get 2 full sets like an Armegeddon and Apocalypse set for 600 million. Now? One Armegeddon is popping 600 million. I know this thread isn't based on IO's but for an ill/rad critique. With that said, it matters because we can post all kinds of builds but the cost is another issue, another thraed.

    Anyhow, Local Man and many others are right, Def is a big issue not needed or can be quite a beneficial to have as well ... so, I need it for a better surviving potential.

    Here is a build which will prove I know nothing on how to soft-cap Def on an ill/rad troller. I will need some help here please. Can you critique this build and offer any suggestions ... please?

  15. Okay, I do understand that if one is controlling correctly depending on most of any situations, defense is not needed. However, I do plan on playing this toon specifically for solo purposes (not pvp) and too assist with teamswhere an alternative build can be created for team friendly powers.

    After checking the market ... like after 4 months absences, the prices are too extreme. I remember when I can get 2 full sets like an Armegeddon and Apocalypse set for 600 million. Now? One Armegeddon is popping 600 million. I know this thread isn't based on IO's but for an ill/rad critique. With that said, it matters because we can post all kinds of builds but the cost is another issue, another thraed.

    Anyhow, Local Man and many others are right, Def is a big issue not needed or can be quite a beneficial to have as well ... so, I need it for a better surviving potential.

    Here is a build which will prove I know nothing on how to soft-cap Def on an ill/rad troller. I will need some help here please. Can you critique this build and offer any suggestions ... please?

    OH! After playing the toon under a close-eye, the Flying Pool is not required in game style so, i'll stick with the ole-fashion combo of SS & SJ (mostly CJ during battle for the lil xtra Def.

I am indeed in your debt for your efforts in explaining every detail and situation one can/may come accross with each power and how worthy it is to have. Indeed I do appreciate your efforts .. your passion in this matter fully.

    This is something I've tossed together and imagining the situations that I may come accross with-also I took the benefit of slotting what should/must have and what doesn't need much bufffing from the IO's sets to that particular power. For an example, Spectral Terror for one, I do now understand it will do the same regardless vs. Radiation Infection which requires Endu Cost Red and more Deuffing as an example, and too (which was my most difficult moments to find extra slots) saved me some slots to put else where needed.

I will rework it again and too tweak a bit of def as well but then again, this build was first planned to be a soloer but, I will be making it most definitely a team supporter. Currently working on an ill/rad for solo'ing atm.

I have certainly given advice on my suggestions to improve such builds, but my controllers will often have the shield from the APP set and that's all.

    On a team-oriented controller, I feel his (or her) focus should be on providing maximum benefit to the team. That mostly means providing as much control, buffing and debuffing as possible, and having situational powers that can provide benefits at the right time. I rely upon teammates like Tanks and Scrappers to take the aggro. I rely on teammates like Blasters and Defenders to kill foes before they can do a bunch of damage to me. I don't mind having an occasional faceplant as long as I have helped the team move along faster and saved others from faceplanting.

    I was on an ITF last night with my level 43 (now 44) Earth/Storm. I normally play Earth Controllers at range, doing what I can to avoid aggro because the AoE controls draw a lot of aggro. However, I was playing her a little bit more aggressive than I usually do because a buddy of mine was playing his Kin/Rad, and he's a really good Kin/Rad . . . I knew that if I was in melee, he would be sending out heals on a regular basis. Another buddy of mine was main tank, and the team had 2 tanks and a Brute, so I figured they would be pulling most of the aggro. As a result, I spent time in Hurricane, throwing out my AoE Controls, debuffs and damage powers and overall had a great time . . . even though I faceplanted about 4 times (which is a lot for me). We didn't exactly rush and got the entire thing done in just a few seconds over 1 hour. I added a lot to that. I'm glad I did not give up powers like Snow Storm and O2-Boost or Thunderclap to fit in three Fighting powers.

    There are several ways to play controllers. High Defense builds can play more aggressively and gain personal survival at the expense of fewer powers to use and less benefit to the team. Personally, I tend to play my controllers cautiously, avoiding aggro as much as possible and rarely dying. I don't need high defense because of the way I play, but I have lots of tools in the toolchest. I like to have some situational powers that others might skip. My Fire Controllers have Bonfire for those occasional times when it is the right tool for the job (like the Recluse Buffing Towers in the STF). Most of my Stormies have O2 Boost for helping teammates.

    My personal Illusion/Rad only has the Fire Resistance Shield, and it only has the base slot with an Resist IO. I might be able to free up one more slot for it was some creative slotting. I don't rely upon Defense. Instead, I use my control powers to avoid aggro. I use Deceive a lot, especially before the fight begins. Phantom Army draw the aggro, and I am cautious to avoid over-aggro. Solo, I tend to go somewhat slow because I prefer to spend a little bit of extra time to avoid taking damage -- I typically go through Tip Missions solo without being hit a single time.

    If you got the idea from some of my recent posts that I encourage high defense builds, that's not accurate. I was just responding to several builds posted that were defense builds. I find it more of a challenge to forego the Defense and try to benefit the team more.

    What I meant to say was after looking at your build you have posted here. I see it is a very impressive build, impressive def and recharge. I think what I was trying to ask was does it matter to have such defense for a controller? But now I understand of what you have said. It depends on the playstyle of the controller. Rather its a solo style or team support. I see now that if you are solo'ing alot then the Def softcap is a must or at least should have.

    Now, [COUGH] xcuse me there. I would like to build and make a solo ill/rad troller. Your build is just that but I don't have access the villain's PPP epeics yet ...

  21. Local Man! I'm not going to boast against you but simply just saying when the numbers of magnitude of mez cast (due to i.o. enahncers ehancement) are measured by the powers of mezzing duration from the caster (me) vs, Def and/or Res cap should def cap matters?

    Or ... does it take skill/experience of such of a controller type to realise and understand these circimsyances whereas softcapping really makes a difference.

    Now that being said, you have put in efforts into your build/s (ill/rad I have seen only) to soft cap def but my question is ... if a contoller is contolling supremely or at his/her master skill should these def caps matter?

After viweing your builds all (especially Local Man's build) mine might be way more squishy ... too squishy (altho I haven't created one yet).     Local Man? I haven't found your post but now as the cognac slowly eases in, my smarts kicks in as well. Duuuhhhhhhhh Me, I should have clicked your name (for I am a forum noob) to have NOT found your post on this matter.

    Controlling is by far devasting, it rips Blasters apart ... but yet, Blasters have a "key" of being that makes them so well desried to play because of IMEDDIATE damage as well but two entirely different AT's. Controlling is by far much more complicated. Some may have an idea but don't know it truely yet. You cannot wish to play a Blaster in a Controller's build, it most definitely defeat the purpose to be a Blaster when so much damage is done when you are controlling the situation which is by far better for me. With a Controller or playing it at the least requires patience, an eye to see and recognise the detail of threats and types (to you) within that ... that are most threatening from which you can control also.

    To get back to the point here is my build on an ill/therm build which does not come by far close to Local Man's build. Ima post it anyway for critque.

    Okay now that the build is posted, it has nice recharge to it. Now wondering if its a good build. I think heals are important although I didnt grab the team-buffs and stuff and too droppe the team-player Rez. Is it just as important to build for more HP, more Def and such?
