Thank you all for a fast response, esspecially you, TopDoc for putting that in a very comprehensive detail. So far, I am really diggin the Dominator, I have more attack buttons than any other toon/AT I have played at my controls which is spoiling me like a baby with so many options to sweep a mob first.
-
I've made my very first Dom and I am noobish with this toon. I cannot quite grasp the concept of it but I think I may have an idea now. It's like a blaster in some ways but with Control.
Also because it is my first Dom, what is Domination and how does perma-domination benefit? I see on Mid's that it offers some great resistance due to status protection but what else does it do? Id it that its so great that I can stack Holds on AV's or ...? When it comes to Controllers, I must say I am a beast at it ... rather its a fire/kin, ill/rad or any other because each and different controller AT
has a different playstyle in ways of the game mechanics, I do understand Controllers, the way they play and their purpose rather solo/team support. Thanks!
Here is a build I've worked on and, I am not sure of it. I will greatly appreciate any ideas and/or critique on it.

Here is my build (Altho I haven't resepcced into it yet because its an all around build but it would do well with farming too) that is soft-cap to 45% S/L Defense. Very nice global rechage with spiritual Core Paragon. However, I am not sure of but I think the "new" Alpha Incarbate ability, Agility that has 33% added global recharge, feense to all and endurance mods may prove to be even better with this build. I don't have the numbers but a few good guys on this thread helped me with it some time back. Here is the build:
Note: It has no temperature protection meaning that fire attacks may get thru.

Cerulean_Shadow, your ill/rad is over slotted on a few powers, and there are a few powers (with advatages) you have skipped, Hasten is one of them that will greatly boost your global recharge and is normally a power everyone gets for any AT they build, it's a pretty common power to get in most cases. Also, you most definitely want to try at least get Phantom Army to be perma, they are the major distraction/ and Tanker. Waiting for that ability to recharge will get you very busy keeping alive since then you will have the mob's aggro/attentions are focussed on you.
To get more recharge, you may have to spend a hefty penny. There are NO LoTG's 7.5% global recharge bonus IO's within. You have 6 slotted Accelerate Metabolism and that can be 6 slotted with Efficacy Adaptors, thats a 5% added global recharge. Radiation Infection is way over sloted as well .....
Too many advantages and slotting advantages you have skipped and overlooked. Tooo many to list right now. I am convinced you have not explored this forum for ill/rad builds to learn from. I highly, strongly recommend that you do just that for they are far too many threads based on this troller type. Many build you can click to view or copy & paste to your Mid's for your critique. Also, Local Man has a guide that simplifies on how to build for what type of gamestyle and why. You can look and read up on his guide within his Signature. He's pretty good in helping to understand it's abilities and powers.
I hope this helps. -
Okay .. here is CitizenSynthetic build here. I don't know why you guys, especially you, Local Man could not pull it up. Maybe its a glitched within it somewehre but all I did was click on it and Norton's option to "Open", "Save" or ... popped upso I cicked on Open. I will repost it with other options that Mid's have to export the info and data:

The build looks pretty interesting! Yo have the teleporting pool + hasten and thats it and of course, Primal Force Masteryas well.
It looks like a team player's build with good support to it but my knowledge on this combo is unexperienced and I cannot make to much of a comment for it because, I don't know your playstyle. -
I've noticed when looking at mostly everyone's build posted on this thread, it seems as if no-one knows that slotting more than 2 slots/recharge enhancements on Hasten, Rage and so forth is overkill. Any power that indicates buffed numbers from enhancements in "Red" will give a false reading on the actual numbers because of ED. Its also a waste of a slot that can be used eslewhere. For an example, two slots in Hasten with recharging enhancements will highlight in "Green", meaning that this is good, and if a buffed power is highlighted in yellow, that means you are not too far from the accurate mark on Mids.
Just sharing great info. -
Please tell me, what is exactly wrong with Poison Trap?
I have been eager to make a plant/poison troller recently so ... I may still make one but just want to know ahead of time what to expect with this combo. -
Quote:The main question is why use SO's, are they still on the market? WOW!!! If so because for one, you will greatly benefit from just Training/Regular IO's (Invention Original Recipes/or crafted enhancements). At level 32, for level 27 even, you want to slot level 35 regular IO's at lvl 32 or level 30 regular IO's for level 27. You can hold on to them without ever having to worry if they are red or not because your toon may have out-level'ed their working limit. You can keep the crafted IO's until the toon reache level 50 and respec build if need be[Quote].I usually play Scrappers with the exeption of the tank and mastermind I'm leveling now. I've tried doms but I just can't seem to get interested in one, but controllers sound interesting.. Any power suggestions for a first time controller? I usually form teams, or solo so a bit of both if that helps. And I'll be using strictly SO's.
Local Man and quite a few others has giving you some great input on what is the better to start with. After reviewing, Local Man's responses, he is 99.9% accurate. You did mention you are a solo'ist and a team-mate sometimer so, Ill/Rad is your best choice. The only thing about Ill/Rads are ...... they ... are .... so .... great (depending on build), you may not want to play another troller ..... ever ... accept their are other troller builds you can tweak and master according to your controlling playstyle like Plant/Poinson or a Fire/Kin troller. But the The things you can do with an Ill/Rad makes your favorite Tanker and/or balaster (No Offense to Tankers & Blasters) but just saying you may feel what you have persnally on your character tray cannot defeat it. It is the only controller (IMO) that can be Tanker, Blaster and Defender. SO's will just give you a taste but with global bonuses stats, you will be golden especially when you get T4 Incarnates.

Quote:Hello Leavateinn, I am totally speechless ... After looking at this build you have tweaked and getting better understanding of a few things you've mentioned on ... I'm at, WHOAH!I don't really get that build. It has a lot of things I don't understand, like tough without weave (either take both or none, tough alone isn't worth it with no APP shield to stack with). Slotting for slow on lingering rad isn't really useful since only the movement slow is affected, not the -rech. I have my doubts about pure S/L builds now that there's so much exotic damage flying around. Scorp APP doesn't suffer as much since it gets good E defense as well but it really sucks at killing things due to horrible DPA on the blasts.
If you asked me to build a generalist Ill/Rad I would probably do it something like this: perma-PA, fireblast/ball, 45 ranged def, 60 S/L res, roughly .8 EPS more recovery than your build above and all key powers from both sets properly slotted.

I highly appreciate your efforts into this thread here, everyone ... especially you both, Leavateinn and Local Man, you both assistancance within this thread are valued highly. And MentalMaden, thank you.
Indeed Local, it is a very inpressive build, and the expensenses? Blah, I am not rich but I will find a way to get a few of the IO's and most of them I do have already so ... no biggie there. I do see where I can grab a few slots form eslewhere. For an example, I know that having two troller nukes can stun bosses but for now, I hardly uses one of them (which too, may be a reason why I am failing those crucial moments in battle), I see three slots there I can possibly use on other powers.
I will study this build and study it a few more, look into the depth of what other possibilities can shine (now that I know you've possibly tossed it together with ease), I may can tweak a bit more form it. But it is most definitely SAVED on file. Thanks again.
On the key-Binding, Local Man, you must show me how to do that, that is soooo freaking awesome just thinking of it's, .... I cannot wait, it feels like X-mas eve's night trying to get to sleep sorta ... LOL.
I will repost what I may come up with. It may not be tonight for I have one more workday to rise up on in the very early A.M. so ... until another day, P E A C E ! ! ! -
Quote:Hello Leavateinn and thanks for the response there. Yeah after reviewing that what you have stated, it does makes more since and plus, it frees up 1 slot. Also I have totally reworked the build for a few reasons, I want this to be a pure debuffing/killing troller. Also I forgot I'll pretty much be solo'ing more as well with it so ... yeah thats why I have reworked and swapped a few power within. Ity may be a bit endu hungry but I believe that is nothing thanks to Destiny's Ageless. Also changed from Alpha's Spiritual Core to Spiritual Partial Core because that too gives an additional buff to slow and the same % to healing as well and still giving enough recharge to give PA it's perma-charge.That build is OK, but your scorp shield is strangely slotted (mistake?). Replace the end/rech piece with a straight def. You don't really have 32.5 S/L/E def (the minimum amount of defense I consider worthwhile to build for) since half the def from supe invis suppresses when attacking.
I'd slot hover less intensely and Maneuvers more heavily. Not only does it give more defense, it benefits your teammates too. Try to take it earlier. Group invis, recall and mutation are all candidates to move to the Lv50 power choice instead.

Quote:Right Right! I knew this already but not to what limit. Okay so I will retweak my build posted above for more defenses and then see how Mid's will display the numbers. It may be an ideal build to figure out how the mathematics work. So, is the diplay for info accurate on Mids or ...?I think you are looking at spiritual (and alpha for that matter) a bit off. It's not a flat out global recharge buff like you get from IO bonuses or speed boost. It works like an enhancement so if you have 45% recharge that will be added to what each power you have just like you put an enhancer in the power. That means that it follows ED (enhancement diversification) to an extent. As you go higher up the tiers more of the enhancement ignores ED.
So if you have zero recharge slotted in a power then you'll get the full benefit and 45% recharge. But if you have say 95% recharge already you won't end up with 140% recharge for the power. Depending on how high up you are in the alpha tier you can end up with a good percentage of that 45% ignoring ED but not all of it. Hence not really "global recharge" like you see in your combat attributes tab.
Thanks for the info MentalMaden. -
Well, the Spiritial Incarnate is not going to import within the build ... but I have chosed the Spiritial Core at 45% global recharge. Phantom Army recharges dully at 56.33 seconds.
-
Thanks for the well detailed information/numbers, Pine! I was speaking in general about the defenses as I have read (not fully understood) from other post on many different AT threads about soft-cap, soft-capped or 45% defense rather it's Smash/Lethal or Ranged, Melee and AoE. Although I am great with math, the numbers and mathematics of the game I am shamefully ignorant of still to this day. But I do know about builds, (mids) AT's and such and well awareof what they are capable of and.
I do like speed ... lots of it but to see the big picute without having to worry about who's coming at me, flying seems to be an easy fix for that while I attend to thematters at hand during combat and there is nothing melee-like on this toon so the toon's range-capabilitiy really helps to decide that fix.
The build is by far a perma-PA build, PA are too awesome not to permafy (new word).
I would like to take a peep at your build, Pine if you don't mind. It sounds like a very promising build may you have.
Here is what I have made up, my present build isnolonger on my PC file, I will have to copy from & save it ... or not simce it will have a new build soon.
Here is the new build here:

Quote:Local-Man, you are indeed a very helping hand here when it comes to this kind of stuff with trollers, your input is highly valued and appreciated very much.I fully agree with Mental Maden. None of my Illusion Controllers are built for Defense. I can manage the aggro with PA, Spooky (Spectral Terror), Flash, Phanty, Deceive and Blind. The only time I have significant issues are those occasional ambushes that ignore my pets and make a bee-line straight for me . . . I can take one or two out with Blind and Deceive, but if it is a crowd, I may have to run or occasionally faceplant . . . which is no big thing since debt means nothing.
An Ill/Rad has lots of tools for avoiding aggro.- Do you have enough Recovery to stay invisible all the time? Staying at range and invisible will help you avoid most aggro even if you are attacking.
- Use Deceive on any foes who notice you -- it lets you turn aside foes without alerting others. If you use Blind, you may alert others.
- Unless you are using PA to take the alpha, let the tank (and other melee guys) get the aggro first before you attack. As the tank runs in, I will often use Deceive to take out a boss or a foe with some kind of troublesome ability (like a debuff -- Deceive can often turn that debuff back on the foes, resulting in much better results than if you had held or killed that foe). After the tank has aggro, I don't have to be so careful.
- Don't use AoE attacks on groups larger than what PA (or your tank) can distract. The foes around the edges of your AoE attack will aggro on you. Once PA or the tank have the aggro, then feel free to use your AoE attack. I usually wait until after I have applied EF to get more damage.
- Focus on the targets who already are focused on your PA, or Deceive a foe before you take him down with your single target attack chain. Your attacks will draw aggro to you unless the other foes are already distracted with PA or Phanty, or if that foe is Confused.
- For tough foes, remember that RI has a significant ToHit Debuff. That's somewhat equivalent to defense.
- Stay at range and be prepared to run if you draw too much aggro.
1. Yes, i do, the endu is never an issue there on that behalf.
2. That is a very clever tactice there, I must exercise that more often.
3. Yep, PA is always first to lay down in the mob sometimes before the tanker gets involved (showing off my ill/rad at times when the tanker is AFK or distracted by other means).
4. This I need to exercise as well.
5. Indeed, I will review my existing playing habits to see how it is exactly of what I am doing wrong there.
6. Another valuable point, what it is I do at most cases is lay down both, EV and RI on the same enemy. I should exercise on how to execute these two debuffers on seperate bosses maybe. The idea of that alone just makes it exciting even more, I mean the limit seems to become limitless when other ideas come accross. That will help me to better identify my enemies before the approach in the future as well.
And your binding technique is flawless from auto switching from Hover to Fly? Wow!!! very clever, I would had NOT ever knew of such. Thanks Local.
I ill repost my true, present build soon this evening for the viewing and critique.
Thanks again. -
Quote:I do agree with you MentalMaden, and thanks for responding. I've been playing that way and managing aggro well, it is that for some of them that does get my attention manages to kill the toon quickly. There are other issues contributing to it like when doing the trials, they are lvl 54 mobs there and .... well I just don't like dying. It may take a bit more experience to establish Gawdlike skills ... LOL. The build above is just ideal, its not the actual build which has NO shiled/armor ...NONE! So that may be the other reason why its an easy & fast face-matt.You are using other forms of control, correct? Dropping PA then spectral terror should take care of most spawns. Add to that a good dose of deceive and debuffs and you should be very safe. For Illusion characters recharge heavy builds will do more (IMHO) than defense will. Perma PA will close that window where aggro falls to you.
If you are dying too much as a controller it's not because you don't have high enough defenses; it is because you aren't practicing good aggro management, over stepping realistic difficulty (biting off more than you can chew), and/or not using your controls enough or properly. Defense is nice, but not necessary for proper control play, even aggressive control play. *Personally, boxing-tough-weave is a waste of three power choices on the typical controller, especially an Ill/Rad.
(*I can see in instances where you can stack with primary or secondary powers i.e. sonic, FF, etc.)
And I do not truly desire to have the fighting pool but it helps to get the added defenses and yes, I can see where it hugs up spots for much more usable powers and frees up some endurance usage. But the fun parts is controlling the situation whereas, my teammates and I are safe. -
I've had my Illus/Rad Troller for some time now and it is a great troller to play (IMO). If played right it is said that defenses are not necessary and that is where I get these embarrassing issues at dying in front of my teammates during those crucial moments when my team needs me the most.
Partially my play style with it is using Fly mostly at all times to see the big picture better, too, keeping out of melee range as well. With that said I cannot determine rather this toonÂ’s defenses should be better with S/L soft-capped defenses or ranged capped defenses. How would either capped defenses work with this AT type? Or is it possible to have both, S/L and ranged defense?
My dying issues come when PA does not hold agro of all and a few gets aim of my presence and one-shots me. LOL In some cases there are minions that kills me in 2 shots.
Here is a build IÂ’ve worked on to get its S/L defense soft capped.
I strongly appreciate your efforts in giving any viable input. Thanks

I loves my ill/rad combo. I recently dusted it off to get newer incarnate abilities for it ... but the lack-time from not playing it has made my play-style to it a bit rusted. The toon has solo'd many GM's cause hunting AV's was not enough challenge for it. It has perma-PA and decent recharge. Although lately, the newer mobs have been a bit challenging because now, I am beginning to feel the toon must have more defenses to it. Villains (PVE) are almost killing the toon with just 2 shots.
-
Quote:This build isn't a complete build. You still have lvl 41 powers and slots to chose and place. DOH! You have said that above. Okay solo'ing GM's on this AT is not a challenge once it is at lvl 50. You will want to grab the right T4 Incarnates for this build as well.unbound purchased and in place, haven't really tried it yet, so we'll see. here's my current build, the ios aren't exactly this lvl, but you get the idea. was wondering if it's possible to beat a GM yet or should i wait till PA is actually perma.
(Edit: she's not actually 48, only 37 atm)

Alpha's T4 Spiritual Core Boost and Destiny's T4 Ageless will help you to reach perma PA. Also your build can be tweaked much more to get the defense stats you are aiming for.

I am presently working on an ill/cold build. So many optiosn totake, so many ideas and then, not much room to select everything ... hahahaha but, I do want to get what is more important to my taste in plying this AT. Unlike /Rad, it has no healing power but if played right, it may not need one.
The toon is currently lvl 30 something but it is a lvl 50 but I did not train up to that point yet.
Here is an idea build that is most likely to built to. Even tho I might redo this build again because its not really a team-oriented build. So I don't know if i should keep the extra shileds for Phantasm or ....
Here's the build. Please critque!

Well you can skip Super Invis and pickup Group Invis which is a click power, it has 120 sec duration and under a few global recharges and bonus recharges, its easy to get it under perma. I don't know if it stacks on top of Artic Fog but by the power, GI being a click instead of a toggle like SI which will detoggle off AR if you click it, may drop the need for a stealth IO in sprint.
Actually, I just hopped on the forums seeking advice on an ill/cold troller if its better to soft-cap it or not. I have an ill/rad and if played right, no shields are needed. But I am new to ill/cold atm so, I would like a little feedback on the matter to soft-cap the defense on it or not. -
Hello Blake!! HAhahaha, presently standing right next to you oin the WW House.
Haven't seen your present, improved build yet but I am anxious to see it. The other build that you have posted ... well the others that commented on it hit it right on the nose so there is nothing for me to say on that. But willing to see the new changes. Also, anyone who slots Hasten 3 times is waisting a slot. Remember. When fooling around on Mids, the numbers within the ability being enhanced in "Red" is overkill. If its in "Red" with the Incarnates enabled, then thats okay because that what the buffing Incarnate Abilities are suppose to do.
Here is my next farming build. I went form the most global recharge possible.

Quote:I've crunched the numbers and played extensively KM multiple times on either AT to 50, including mirror combos so I can have direct comparisons, as well as detailed my reasoning regarding damage buffs working comparatively worse on brutes than scrappers due to the way the AT itself work, having lower base damage + Fury rather than higher base damage, a thought that seems shared by most if not all knowledgeable folks, but hey, mister random person, I'm glad you can put everyone's concerns about KM's performance at rest with such rock solid arguments as "it does TONS of damage and can basically do alot of things that Invul/Stone/Willpower can do" (which seems like a self-defeating argument to me, as if you're arguing it can do a lot of things, as opposed to all the things, and hasn't anything extra, then it only follows that it is not as good). I could also go on about /fire vs /mu, if going for AoE, or /soul, if going for ST + almost as good AoE + survivability, but it's late and I want to wrap up this run on rant by deploring once again the annoying trend for people to see everything in black and white and confuse relative statements with absolutes. There is a best and there is a worst, that doesn't mean the worst is unplayable ; the worst active NBA player could probably make a fool out of anyone who's reading these forums at basketball. Sure, you can dress it up by claiming everyone is a winner and is awesome, but who does that help? Maybe the feelings of people who care about the performance of their characters, but then wouldn't we be more helpful to these players by giving them the correct information rather than sugarcoated affirments, assertions that are if you ask me quite condescending as really that's the kind of stuff you feed children, and I feel it's safe to assume the vast majority of people on the boards, especially those who are likely to visit the archetype forums, are at least teens and most likely grown men or women... Then comes the second annoying trend, player compares himself with random people on PUGs, sees himself perform better, concludes powerset combo is better. Holy logical leap Batman, have you stopped and considered that this game takes a bit of skill to play? As little as it might be to some people - again, people who treat everything as an absolute, which is especially silly when discussing skill in a MMO as there are, always, a significant amount of the playerbase who plays at a level that is, let's just say, far below what would be required to have any kind of enjoyable experience in most other video games ; as little as it might seem, the point is there is still much room in this game for personal skill to supplement build differences to a point, and comparing oneself to random players just doesn't make sense. Just yesterday I've seen a blaster taking the alpha against Marauder and his cronies in a Lambda while all the brutes and tankers were sitting on their pancakes, twiddling their thumbs. All melee powersets suck! Let's all reroll blasters! Thankfully it doesn't work this way, and thankfully there is room for something beyond just picking up the power build and closing your eyes, although it can feel that way at times after hours, dozens of hours, hundreds of hours playing the game, which is the kind of time during which you could learn a whole new language or professional activity really, so it should come at no surprise that certain things that are not as obvious to more casual players become child's play for some. Bottomline, you can push absolutely every combo in this game to do pretty cool stuff, far above what is actually required for regular play, but some will have an easier time at it, some will be faster, some will be able to push it even further. Hiding that fact behind happy-go-lucky rhetoric doesn't seem to serve much purpose to me, sure there are people who consider anything but the absolute best to be broken and useless and might then try it, but most likely they'll find out at some point that particular combo isn't the thing it was hyped up to be and will end up feeling disappointed. So the lesson here is you can't change people, but you can rant at them and that makes you feel better for a little while, up until facebook and google finally manage to push for our real identity to be tied to our online personas all the time, and the angry masses come to your home and burn your house for daring to say that guys, it could be that, open parenthesis, two plus one point fifty, close parenthesis, times one point fifteen might just be bigger than, open parenthesis, two plus one point sixty plus one point twenty-five, close parenthesis, times zero point seventy-five, and no home means limited internet access, means the end of the world as we know it.

It's an okay combo, the slows from both primary and secondary adds up greatly. But reviewing your build, you have 7 gobal bonus sets that are the same, (3 positron sets thats 5 slotted, 3 sets of Decimations-also 5 slotted and a Expediant Reinforcement set of 4 slots which also grants 6.25% global recharge bonus of 6.25%) which 2 of either sets are not accounted for. The max is 5 bonus sets of the same value. However, you can have 5 LoTg's + 7.5% global recharge IO's and an addition of 5 sets granting also 7.5% global recharges because they both are two different kinds of type that does not counter with each other on a build. If you can afford an Apocalypse set and a Ragnorok set, that will give you an addition 20% added global recharge plus the other goodies that comes with purple or superior rare io sets.

Okay Superboot, you have valuable advice here but I am curious of what are your goals that you will like to roll with your ill/rad? Is it a team-player, a solo-ist, or a combonation of things becuase the build has room to really improve for either but not quite both. For me I can see where I will find experiencing difficult situations for not having other abilities like Super Speed. Is Mutation and Fallout necessary? It may be if you are a team-supporter but I am just saying there are other options you haven't took, RotP is another goodie but if played right (Solo) it is not needed.
