Deathstroke DCU toy. There's stuff out there showing him unmasked from the comics, but this is the closest thing I could find (quickly) to be "official" depiction of him.
Seriously. Dude's had at least 3 adult (or teenage, in Rose's case) kids, and he wasn't exactly a spring chicken when he got started fatherin'.
  2. Not too thrilled with the changes to the opening theme, but I agree. Awesome episode!

I especially loved the new girl's reaction when Winston called Guerrero by name and her cocky attitude just vaporized when she realized who she was dealing with. Man's obviously got quite the rep.

Yeah, the mask is something else I was wondering about. In the Entertainment Weekly cover where we got our earliest look at the suit, they seemed to have whited out the eyes, and I actually thought that would be cool to finally see in a superhero movie. After all, the suit and mask are basically constructs created by Hal's mind and will, so it makes sense that he'd be able to do stuff with it that Batman realistically couldn't in his movies. But now it looks like they're flip-flopping on whether to blank out the eyes or not.

I do actually like the over all look of the final suit design, and the better resolution makes the mask look much more "real" than the feeling that it was painted on I got from the Entertainment Tonight clip.

  6. I think Metropolis was briefly mentioned in Batman Forever, but it's a good point. And I agree, superpowered villains and more fantastical elements can indeed work in comic book movies. It just depends on presentation. With a different script and director, even Arnold and Uma's Freeze and Ivy probably could have worked. I can easily picture Mr. Freeze being portrayed by the cold, unfeeling and inhuman Terminator, or Ivy as a deceptively deadly seductress. The problem is they were portrayed as campy and over-the-top, because that was the vibe the filmmakers decided to go for.

If the movie takes the villains seriously, so will the audience. Same goes for the superscience and magical hoodoo.

I suspect that the Thor and Green Lantern movies are going to be something of a litmus test to see if Hollywood can pull off some of those elements convincingly. If so... who knows? We might actually see Bale as Batman in a Justice League movie down the line.
  7. Which is similar to how Johns has been playing it in the comics. So yeah, I can see that.

I do agree they should darken or tone down the mask a bit, though. In the comics, I've always sort of imagined it as being almost black, but with green reflective highlights or something. They don't necessarily have to do exactly that, but right now it looks a little too much like he went to a face-painting booth at the county fair.

    Skyline...

One question... did your nephew regret seeing the movie?

    I'm just curious.
  9. It's actually become kind of ridiculous that they haven't phased out/retired/killed off some of the remaining original JSA-ers. They've at least given Wildcat a successor with the introduction of "Tomcat" in the last couple of years, but the other two old-timers, Jay Garrick and Alan Scott, are still running around without a true namesake due to various handwavey plot contrivances.

Let Jay finally retire for good with his wife Joan, only occasionally making an appearance in an advisory role. We've got Max Mercury back as the mentor and instructor in all things super-speed related, anyway. Have Wally take up Jay's spot on the team, maybe even changing his costume slightly to honor the original Flash and make himself look more Kingdom Come-ish, since that seems to be the direction DC is wanting to take a lot of the JSA in, anyway.

Alan is interesting, in that he actually has not one but two biological heirs, though neither is really inclined or capable of taking up the Green Lantern mantle. I could see him either permanently becoming the steward of the Starheart's power out in space, taking him away from Earthly duties, or being killed off and the Starheart's power fully passing on to Jade and Obsidian. No inheritor of his actual title on the team, though I suppose one of the human members of the GLC could decide to honor his legacy by joining. Alan was really unique following the Silver Age, anyway. I could see Kyle or someone incorporating elements of Alan's oath into theirs as an homage, maybe.

I still think Poison Ivy could work as a minor villain in the Nolanverse. Just drop the whole plant-controlling thing and make her a chemist turned environmental terrorist/seduction-murderer targeting men who, in her mind, have done some sort of harm to Mother Nature.

Still, I don't think she'd be the right pick for main villain in the conclusion to Nolan's Bat-trilogy. Catwoman would be good as an example of someone skirting the law in Gotham without the hardline moral code that Batman has. And of couse Talia would be awesome to cap off the thread of Ra's and the League of Shadows from "Batman Begins."

    Skyline...

Yeah... I think I'll be using my money to go see Red again before it leaves theaters.
  12. Actually, the voice actor carryover in some cases makes me wonder about whether this series might technically be considered in-continuity with other shows like Spectacular Spider-Man or Wolverine and the X-Men. Would be kinda cool if it was.

We already had references to the MRD from Wolverine in the mini-eps...
  13. Looks like Nolan is planning to start casting for two female leads in his new Bat-film. One will, of course, be a new romantic interest for Bruce Wayne, while the other seems to be a/the new antagonist.

Given some of the rumored choices from that article, I'd say kill two birds with one stone and give us either Catwoman or Talia! Or both!!

Other than that, I think I'd be happy if we finally got a film version of Silver St. Cloud for Bruce's new arm-candy...
  14. The poster looks cool and all, but glow in the dark? Brrr! No thank you. I've been down that road with the stupid Super Mario Bros. movie poster I had as a kid.

Creepy glow in the dark Koopa eyes...!

Looking forward to the soundtrack, though.

    Welllll... possible SPOILERS ahead:

Fan speculation has it that the character of "Rinzler" may actually be Tron, either working undercover or brainwashed/rewritten into serving Clu.

Also, interesting note: George Perez supposedly created Deathstroke during his run on Teen Titans as a nod to another of his own characters introduced during his run on the Avengers at Marvel... Taskmaster. So Deadpool is a knockoff of a DC alt of a Marvel character. Heh.

And I'm pretty sure there's no black around Red Hood's eyes in the comics, that was just done for the animated movie to make them stand out a little more.

    Anyway!

I'm digging the Avengers series so far. Maybe not quite as much as the animated DC Timmverse shows, but there's obviously a lot of love for these characters and their history here.

  18. Well... she does somewhat resemble the Ultimate comics version of the character, I suppose.
  19. Probably cheaper to use an "original" idea than it is to have to pay some kind of royalties to use/adapt an existing property.

This run on Superman at least acknowledges and uses elements of the previous "New Krypton" story and its fallout, as well as staying fairly faithful to the characters and their world. I'm not sure I'll be sticking with either series, though. I didn't even pick up the latest issues this week (though in Superman's defense, JMS isn't on writing chores for this month's offering).

  25. Ye gods... is it possible that this version of My Little Pony actually has... a PLOT?!?
