Quote:David,Couple of considerations to keep in mind as you make your suggestions: we'd probably choose not to make a player version of an NPC costume part if it [...] b) very, very signature and intimately tied to the group or character's look (like Maelstrom's 'heart' for example, which really should remain unique), or c), if it creates an opportunity for confusion and/or griefing (i.e. if by using the costume part, you could look EXACTLY like an enemy and therefore confuse other players).
How about making parts that are "inspired by" some of the more requested signature pieces, such as Maelstrom's "heart". Something different enough that the signature character stays unique, but allows for something of a similar concept/look for the player.
For example, taking the "jewel" chest detail, and adding the bio-lum glow tech, allows for Iron-man-esque chest power-sources, but is still distinctly different from Maelstrom's "heart". Similar approaches could be used for some faction pieces. -

Given that BaBs was/is my favorite dev (though David N. was/is starting to give him a run for his money), I am very saddened by this, if true.
Unless he decided to leave for greener pastures of his own volition (which does not seem to be the case given the info available), this is NOT a good sign.
Best of luck BaBs with whatever the future holds for you. You will be missed here. -
I'm thinking a cropped version of that pic belongs in your sig EG.

Quote:So bring a change of clothes to work?Ugh... is the dress code for the after party or the entire event?
I work with high school kids and on a friday its jeans, skull tshirt and converse...I hope the "Upscale Casual" is for the after hours party only.
If anyone from the champion server is gong, let me know! -
I'm now really looking forward to meeting Mishi. Her posts almost always make me smile...

Quote:This is more or less how I proceed the majority of the time. Had the name "Black Mass" been available on Freedom (yes, I understand the odds) there would have been a new Grav/Earth dom with a religious-/priest-based background/look made solely because of the name/concept. Alas...There've been times I've daydreamt fun names for characters out of the blue.
But for this game when I actually go to create a character I usually follow this order of creation:
1) Decide what AT/powerset I want to try.
2) Think of a name for it.
3) Think up a vague background for it (i.e. enough to nail an origin for it).
4) Create a costume and power color scheme for it.
5) Play it for like 10 levels or so to see if I like it or not.
6) If I keep it then write up a real bio for it once a have a "feel" for it.
But I figure whatever works is good. Sometimes I don't even follow my own "rules" for it.
Sometimes I'll think of a vague concept first (normally step 3) then figure out an AT/powerset and name that would fit it.
It's all good.
Also, a surprising number of my toons emerge form the CC completely different from the concept that entered. Grim Shock, my male Reaper-esque Elec/SR stalker was going to be a female tiger-esque character, using the bio-luminescent top for the "stripes". Much to my disappointment, I found that females can't access the bio-lum chest (why?), and through a process of organic costume evolution, the bio-lum glowing ares became the "ribs" of my reaper-esque male stalker. -
Quote:Have they just decided to put us on the backburner while gearing up for the next big project?
Have they thrown in the towel but don't want to scare us away?
Have they...? Have they...?
And that right there is the 300lb gorilla in the room. Rampant speculation concerning the game we all care about when in the past we would have had some response from OCR concerning the negativity and reassuring the community that the future is still bright for COX.Quote:I think that there's a certain amount of truth to what Obs (and others) is seeing - the "feel" of the community has changed, and the OCR team is part of that. I mean, who even remembers to mention EMPulse? She's the head of the OCR team, and we all forget about her. The fact that she never posts helps that along. We all see Avatea and Ocho, but ... the communications from them are usually fairly formal, without reaching out to the community as a whole in any substantial way (I've had a few casual PM exchanges, but that's a little different).
Now, I've met both Avatea and Ocho IRL, and while the situation wasn't conducive to getting to know them well, I was able to spend a little time chatting with each of them, and I have to say that in person, they're warm, friendly, caring people who (at least a year ago) are thrilled to be working with this game. I don't see that coming across in the communications with us, however.Quote:I think you've hit the nail on the head there - however much they may love the game and community I don't see their enthusiasm coming across in their interaction with the community which is kind of unusual for that kind of role I guess
But to me, it's mostly about the overall lack of communication (post count) and quality thereof.
* Sure, we get announcements, but hardly ever any response to feedback on those announcements.
* Sure, Noble Savage has had some great posts asking for player feedback, and seems to be taking the feedback to heart, but where are posts by people outside of the art department (let alone of a similar nature)? I love David's presence on the boards, but he is now the exception, whereas in the past, his behavior would have been the norm.
* Sure, we had some decent feedback/response during GR beta, but where has that gone when we hit live?
* Sure, I loved Ex/LH/Cuppa's clear exuberance and love of the community, but I can do without it. Far more important was the constant flow of information, and clear notion that our voices were being heard and concerns directed upward, with answers coming back (not all the time, and certainly not always the answers we "wanted", but the dialog was there).
* It's staggering to me that, within 2 months of the first paid expansion of this game in years, there is a constant and palatable concern with the future of this game, and the OCR team has done nothing to dissuade them at all. Seriously, where was the last time that happened with an MMO? Look, some of these fears are probably unfounded, some of them are reactionary, some reading too much into small details, however, when they start becoming more and more prevalent, they need to be addressed. The longer they swirl around, the louder thoe voices become, and the more people start listening.
At this point, marketing/OCR are doing the game a disservice via their silence, and it's at a time where they should be riding/fanning the optimism of a new expansion, and gearing up to protect this game against the competition that launches in less than 2 months. -
Not a problem.
I wasn't suggesting a permanent move, rather a limited trial-run to see if the issues you're experiencing are server-specific. That would help in identifying the issue causing the problems.
Good luck. -
Quote:Ok... now I'm curious.Hey Folks,
Well it seems like the leak was slightly larger than we thought, if it weren’t for those meddling Soldiers of Arachnos! While the Snow and Firefly Auras were for a future issue (and are now being included as part of Issue 19), the Storm Cloud Aura is for a completely different initiative and will be removed from availability in the live environment.
And perhaps a bit disappointed, as I was hoping that Storm aura would also make it into i19 (I know, I know... give us an inch...).
One thing that seems clear is that there is a good bit a-brewin in CoX behind the scenes. Now, I really need to have Black Pebble... uhm... disappear from the M&G so I can interro... err... engage David in a friendly conversation, without the marketing gag hovering over his head.
Also,
FIRST! -
Who could have seen that coming?
Sorry, first thing that crossed my mind given your forum name.
Quote:No, you can't have my stuff. It's still MY stuff. :-)
In all seriousness, hope you get lured back in the future. Paragon should be doing its best to retain or at least re-snare long-time vets. -

You may want to see if you have the some problems on another server. If not, it would point pretty clearly to Guardian. When we started running our villains on Infinity (years ago), we noticed virtually none of the problems that were regularly occurring on Guardian. Also, since I think you're on the East Coast, try one of the E. Coast servers, as you should have better performance.
-
Oh... well that might explain it. Guardian has always and I mean from day one been the red-headed step-child of servers. It's always had stupid lag performance issues. It's certainly not as bad now as it used to be, but that server is cursed.

After 4+ years on our original servers of Guardian (Earthbound Souls - heroes) and Infinity (ORACLE: The People Company - villains), our small-med SG/VG has moved to Freedom for our new Praetorian characters.
The decision was fueled by a lack of slots on our old servers, and the larger player-base on Freedom for better teaming possibilities, especially for those of us who play at odd hours (as opposed to those that are odd and play for hours... which is most of us).
Our group is, at this point, almost exclusively comprised of 2+yr vets, with several 4-6yr vets. While we don't play as much as we used to (r/l interference, for the most part), we'd like to rebuild back up to 12-20 members or so over time, and build up our new bases. [However, this isn't really a recruiting post, as we've always been a "get to know you" SG, and will keep it that way.]
Mostly, I just wanted to say "hi" [/wave], and ask what channels, resources and events we should be aware of/joining.
While we will definitely be focusing on the new Praetorian content for a while, I expect we will start running (our own, or join in on other's) TFs etc. again in the near future.
After all... we'll have to do something with all those new characters we've been creating lately (we may just have a bit of an alt-o-holic problem) after they've all hit lvl 20... -

Nice jeans and a button-down long sleeve, or nice designer T-shirt for me (dependent on weather), with a pair of casual, black dress shoes. If that's not acceptable, they can watch my business walk out the door. I don't do snobby. We have enough of that around where I live/work for me to seek it out, or cater to it.

Quote:Hmm. My SG has people from both coasts and one player in Europe, and, other than one person with a bad internet connection, we don't see disconnects.I've noticed it around the clock and it doesn't matter how many people seem to be on the server. Even only one dot is enough to cause lag. I recently did a TF at about 4am to 5am EST with only 6 people and one guy got mapservered in every mission. Most of us also died at least once per mission thanks to lag. You know the type I'm talking about. Game stops working for about four or five seconds and starts up only to have your toon fall over dead. My personal favorite type of lag is the 300 yard lag spikes while trying to travel. I've even tried the "/unloadgfx" and "/sync" commands to no affect. Anyways, it's really starting to annoy me.
I'd say we see the extended 1-5 sec server-side lag spikes once per hour, on average (and it's clear when it happens that it's server-side lag, as it hits everyone regardless of location). Primarily, we are playing on Freedom now, while still occasionally running on our original Guardian/Infinity servers. The lag is certainly more noticeable on Freedom, but given the load, that's to be expected.
What server are you on? It might be a server-specific issue. -
I love the Firefly aura (still need to see Snow in action).
I also love the fact that this seems to have come from a discussion BaBs had with us a while back regarding auras (and the Flies aura in particular). In that discussion, I, and several others, asked for a colorable version of the Flies aura. It's another thing stemming from the "give them what they want" philosophy.
Furthermore, I'm also very happy that the auras are part of a free expansion. It's a move in (or a return to) the right direction after the Party Pack debacle.
All around great job.
Now, how many other costume options are we getting with i19? -
Quote:How much trouble will we get in if Black Pebble is... uhm... encouraged to take a walk... for a few hours, so you can actually talk without fear of duct tape being slapped accross your mouths?Out of curiosity, how many of you would come if your under 18 kids were allowed in?
As for devs attending the Meet & Greet, War Witch, Noble Savage and Ghost Falcon will be there. Black Pebble and I will be there too.
Too bad BaBs and SexyJ won't be there. I suspect I'd really enjoy getting to meet them in particular. -

Do we need to carve out our own section somehow?
I'd say we could just gather around War Witch, but she's not exactly tall, so that's not as easy as it sounds!
Quote:I'll get her to wear plateform shoes
Please note, because we think you all equally rock, we're letting all attendees in from 7 p.m. until full capacity is reached. No need to RSVP for City of Heroes fans, just turn up and find a way to lure other players out of the line so you can get in faster...I didn't say that, capice?
Out of curiosity, who of the CoH team will be there? -
Quote:Could not agree more. While some players will never be satisfied regardless of what a redname says, I think most of the regulars would have appreciated a short post saying "We hear you. This pack won't change, but we have passed on your concerns to be evaluated in creating future packs."
