Quote:Until you've actually seen it, your opinion really doesn't count for anything, because you don't actually know what you're talking about. It should not be a action blockbuster. That's the first mistake they made.
Far fetched concepts are not what anyone is complaining about at all. It's that internally specific things don't make any sense.
You don't know if there actually are plot holes. You're just parroting what Spoony said. And, given that I've seen the movie twice now, I can safely say that much of what he says is factually wrong, incomplete, or, in some cases, just made up (which is the crux of my issues with his "review").
To anyone who's actually seen the movie, I'm perfectly willing to engage in a PM conversation (so as to keep spoilers out of this thread). I noticed a few minor plot holes, but nothing significant. That doesn't mean I might not have overlooked something. -
Me:
Quote:I'm not talking about the fact that he tries to be "edgy" by constantly cursing. I'm not talking about the fact that he rambles on in a full-blown, unending, semi-incoherent ADD episode. Quote:Have you watched any of Spoony's reviews?
Calling him out for cursing and mad-ranting is like calling out Dr. Doom for speaking in the third person. It's his schtick.
I'm sorry for going off topic, but it always rubs me the wrong way when people criticize an internet reviewer in this way. It's not like he did something offensive or anything; he did what he always does. Only difference is that this time he did it to something you like.
This isn't Roger Ebert here. Spoony, Yahtzee, the Nostalgia Critic, the Angry Video Game Nerd.... all their stuff is at least half meant to entertain. Spoony goes off on rants cause it's funny. Yahtzee makes snide comments and dislikes everything because it's funny.
Oh no, they've ragged on something you enjoyed!
Nut up, laugh at how upset he gets over it, and have a little more confidence in your own opinion. Geez, if I whined everytime Yahtzee ripped apart a game I liked, I would've been banned for spamming by now.
Also, while I find Yahtzee entertaining, Spoony, at least in this case, is completely not so. But hey, YMMV. -
Quote:There's nothing wrong with that stance. The issue here is not that Durraken doesn't like the movie, it's that he's advancing flawed criticisms for a movie he hasn't even seen.Given the drubbing that Durraken is getting here, I'm kinda reluctant to post this, but here goes.
I saw Tron: Legacy and found it very flawed.
The plot for the movie isn't great. It's not particularly bad, but it's got similar flaws that you will find in most high-production, action blockbusters.
However, it does seem to stay solidly within its own logic. If you can accept the concept of humans being digitized into a living, breathing computer world, then you should not have problems with any of the other more far-fetched concepts the movie advances. -
Ok... so I listened to the entirety of Spoony's "review" of TRON that Durakken seems to have based his "facts" and opinions on.
It's quite possibly the most flawed attempt at a review I've ever seen. I'm not talking about the fact that he tries to be "edgy" by constantly cursing. I'm not talking about the fact that he rambles on in a full-blown, unending, semi-incoherent ADD episode. I'm not talking about the fact that he can't remember some of the most basic names or scenes in the movie.
I am talking about the fact that he pretty much misses half the important plot-defining details in the movie and every minor detail that has any degree of subtlety. "This movie never explains anything!" he laments, and then proceeds to draw the most brain-dead conclusions, or proudly proclaim how little he knows. He also just plain makes things up.
It's my belief that Spoony had written his own movie in his head, and when the movie did not progress the way it was "supposed to", he flew into a fit of nerd-rage.
How anyone can use this total failure of a review as a basis to criticize the movie, especially without having seen it themselves, is utterly beyond me. -
Quote:How very odd... given that I made an angel character in the first few months of this game... you know... before vet rewards, or wings of any kind existed.Back when I had only a year of veteran rewards, I got really excited about a character idea for an angel character. There was absolutely no way for me to make that character, unless I completely surrendered my idea for "angel".

Quote:I'm sorry to see you go Castle. You've always been one of my favorite Devs, and the game has been better for you being here.Hey Everyone, I just wanted to send a note out letting you know that my last day working for Paragon Studios is this Friday, December 24.
Quote:I’d especially like to thank all of you City of Heroes fans. I appreciate the passion that you feel for your hobby, even when that passion was, shall we say, directed towards me in a rather negative fashion? I have always tried to keep an open mind and treat your feedback fairly.
Quote:Then, there are the wonderful people I’ve met at Hero-Con and Meet & Greets. It has definitely been my pleasure to work with this community.
Quote:In closing, I’d like to thank you all for the good times and putting up with my sometimes surly nature.) of your contributions to this game, and the forums. Know that you are one of the reasons I've never let my sub lapse since this game launched (which beats all other MMOs by a factor of 15 or so), and also one of the reasons I started to read the dev digest religiously & post more regularly here.
On an entirely selfish note, I wish the people leaving would stop being those that I enjoy interacting with (or just reading their posts) the most. Were it not for GF, NS and Avatea, I'd feel like "all the good ones are gone" (with no disrespect intended towards those remaining).
I wish you the best of luck in everything.
I would not at all be adverse to suddenly getting an in-game tell, or PM from a player I didn't know before. (hint, hint) -

I thought Gamer was a blast, and Dragonball Evolution was surprisingly fun.
If you go to see TRON: Legacy expecting dialogue worthy of Shakespeare or a plot worthy of Citizen Kane... well... frankly you deserve disapontment. On the other hand, if you go expecting great visuals, light-vehicle chases/battles and glowy combat, with a story that stays true unto itself and its legacy, you'll have a really good time. -
Quote:Interesting take. I never join an SG that "spams" out invites (whether that means advertising in broadcast or blind invites).Having a hard time finding a good sg to, havent seen many spamming.
Now granted, I've run my own SG/VG for years now, but even before that, I got to know people by PUGing with them first, then running chatting with some more of their SG mates. -
Don't be so sure about that.

Quote:No real issues on Freedom (H), Guardian(H) or Infinity(V) entering bases. Load times seem like they might be a tad longer than normal, but that's about it.I have tried 4 characters, all are fine until I try to enter my base. The loading screen shows a progress bar to about 20-25%, then freezes. Forever.
This has been observed on Justice 3 times and Triumph once, with most of them in Talos and one in Pocket D.
Arrrrgh!
I'll be bugging it in-game, but wanted to put this out there. Anyone else?
My solution to this is to play in windowed mode. This allows you to switch to other programs during the logout process. -

To be more specific, they stated that they hoped to go live last week, unless there was a game-stopping bug, in which case they would go live after Thanksgiving.
This is exactly what happened.
-
Quote:You and your "reason" and "facts".Hey, folks. Here's the actual quote:
"Ive never been a huge fan of weather for the sake of weather and Ive said not on my watch in the past, but if there is a compelling gameplay reason to do it, not just because its cool, Id reconsider. So far, no ones come up with one, but Im open to ideas."
Note that this is a far cry from "solid no." As with all things, we'll look at the priorities of the project at hand and introduce new tricks when they make sense. Cheers.
How are we supposed to get a giant hysteria-fest going now?
-
Quote:Not much else to say, really.I want to add my support to the development team for:
A) Acknowledging and announcing the existence of the showstopping bugs.
B) Giving a time frame of when we can at least NOT EXPECT it to go live (waiting until after Thanksgiving)
C) Working so darn hard to give us a new release with as few inconveniences (ongoing bugs and such) as possible
D) Providing our playerbase with the best MMORPG available BAR NONE! -
Are you trying to purchase from the EU? If so, look for the link that Avatea posted earlier in this thread, and use that. If not, it may just be a temporary issue.

Quote:Aren't you glad that you will have 3 more power slots now, so you can "waste" one on the attack?A whopping 19% maximum resistance to only Smashing and Lethal damage which requires me to first take an under-powered attack that, if I use it at all, forces weapon redraw. You'll excuse me if I'm not overly thrilled with that as an option.
Oh, and it costs ¼ more endurance than Invulnerability's "Temp Invulnerability" power while providing exactly half the resistance bonus. Yeah, that sounds fair.
Also, pool powers are intended to be inferior to comparable primary/secondary powers. [Not that there are not some noticeable exceptions]
Defensive pool powers are intended to either give minor def/resist to those that normally have none, or to stack on top of existing defenses. -
Quote:Let me clarify/answer your questions:Ty Hallowed, very simple clear info! Seems a bit better than I gathered.....tho everyone seems to have different info! Lol (ie: someone said incarnate abilities will only function during special incarnate content)
Still tho....if reaching the full potential is comparable to purple io'ing out a toon, some of us will still maybe never achieve this. I do understand they don't wanna make it easy.....but like purple io'ing out a toon, would take me a year to do this....which for purples, I never felt the need, considering the time vs payoff.
- The incarnate slot/abilities are intended for incarnate/end-game use, but function at any time that you are running at lvl 50 (in other words, they will not work if exemped)
- Getting an ultra rare enhancement should not take anywhere near as long as "purpling out" a toon. I was simply saying it takes a casual player longer to purple out a toon, and it also takes a casual player longer to get incarnate abilities. It should take you roughly as long to get an incarnate ability (common/uncommon) as it does to get 1-3 dozen pieces of rare salvage. Rare and ultra-rare will take longer.
-
On the Incarnate (Alpha) system (presuming things stay the same as in the i18/GR beta):
- It is specifically designed for, and only will work with, end-game content. That means any lvl 50 mission or TF.
- Any lvl 50 mob has a chance to drop a shard. The chance to drop is higher for bosses, EBs and AVs
- The chance to drop was determined to be roughly equivalent to rare salvage drops
- You do not have to run any TFs to craft the Alpha slot abilities. TFs drop a specific piece of incarnate salvage, and thus can help you get to where you want quicker, but you can craft those salvage pieces with 4 (IIRC) shards.
- Due to these mechanics, a casual player can unlock the alpha slot (soloable mish), continue to run content as before, and can craft a common ability in a "relatively" short amount of time. Crafting the uncommon, rare and ultra-rare abilities will require more time, just like "purple-/IO-ing out" a character currently takes more time for a casual player. This is as it should be.
- This system is extremely solo-/casual-friendly compared to other MMOs. This is also as it should be.
On a side note, re:
Quote:Overall, you tend to get more use out of a long-term recovery boost power, than a short-term "endurance heal", especially if we're talking about a (theoretical) single-target power. Just about the only situation in which a "end-heal" would be more useful than a rec boost is when dealing with end-sapping foes (like sappers). However, given that anyone can carry a blue or two for those situations, I don't think people would like that type of "end-heal" power as much as you think. Now if there were an auto-hit all teammates version...Read what I wrote again - I am specifically referring to powers like "heal." Yes, there are lots of powers that can help with endurance recovery and some that let you steal endurance from your target(s), but I'm not aware of a single power that is just a "click and recover" power like a regen scrapper's heals or an empath's heals. -
Quote:I hope one of the Incarnate slots finally gives us those visual sounds they promised us a couple years ago.Quote:
*Interface: Still to be unlocked.
I have high hopes. -
Quote:Uhm...
You've never read a Wolverine comic or X-Men title from the 80s and 90s, have you? He kills people all the time. Heck, he even tried to kill his own teammate (Rachel Summers - Phoenix).
This is not a point you want to try to build an argument on.Quote:Perhaps you didn't read those issues. You came back with one attack on a teammate that he knew very well was a powerful telekinetic who could hold any wounds closed, and who had access to the Phoenix-force. Surprise of surprises, she survived. Oh, yeah, and why did he do it? To prevent her from killing someone else who was despicably evil. My argument holds. He has killed, but I'd bet you could count the times in over 30 years of comics that weren't flashbacks to his time as a soldier or government operative on your fingers with some left over. I'm not saying that it's a great character device for someone whose main offensive ability is six unbreakable, razor-sharp claws, but that's Claremont for you. He made the character someone who was specifically repelled by his own dark past of killing, and who refused to do it pretty much at all during his run as writer, a characteristic that Wolverine has mostly retained in the time since Claremont stopped writing him.
From wikipedia: "Wolverine was typical of the many tough anti-authority antiheroes that emerged in American popular culture after the Vietnam War;[3] his willingness to use deadly force and his brooding nature became standard characteristics for comic book anti-heroes by the end of the 1980s."
As to Rachel/Pheonix, I did not use her as the "only" example, but rather as the extreme example. He stabbed his own teammate through the heart. Now, could he guess/hope that she might survive it? Sure. But could he know for sure? Not a chance. He was willing to kill her to stop her, if necessary.
Again, this is not a point you want to try to build an argument on. -
Quote:Interestingly, I too thought the City raveler bonus would be a game-changer for may of my characters, but it has not really worked out that way. Very few of my characters actually end up taking advantage of the ability, because a) There's almost always something "better" to pick at levels 6-12, b) with all the other things that make travel simpler (bases/base tp'ers, Pocket D, jetpacks etc) I usually don't take travle powers until later in the game and c) I like many of the pre-reqs to the travel powers.I throw City Traveller in there just because it's so much of a game changer - both in freeing up a power pick for many characters (a lot more of my characters would have Flight if they didn't have to get Hover or Air Superiority first) and for making the early parts of the game less tedious by allowing quicker travel sooner; however, the devs have taken steps to alleviate its effects, first with the Natural Pack (and Ninja Run,) then with Issue 18/Going Rogue and the flight speed boost, and coming soon with Issue 19 and Inherent Fitness. All those do a lot to make City Traveller less extreme of a bonus, but when I started this campaign none of these steps had been taken yet, and it's still a principle I disagree with.
This trend is mirrored by those in my SG with City Traveler unlocked. I think it's a case of "sounds better than it actually ends up being." -
Glad to hear BaBs has landed on his feet. He was my favorite dev for years.

Psynder, are they not working on any costume for you, or just the default/slot1 costume?
