Out of curiosity, to the doomsayers, knowing that almost all the current devs are still going to be working on the game, what brings on the doom? I'm honestly not seeing a reason for it.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    For starters? This statement.

    [ QUOTE ]
At this time, we’re not quite ready to disclose longer term plans.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Just because they've hired the team now doesn't mean anything is going to permanently be that way. I've -never- seen a situation in MMOs where a change in ownership ever was a good thing.

For people also saying that this is a good thing because "Cryptics portion of your monthly payment can now go towards the development of the game" need to realize and remember that there's really no financial reason nor obligation for NC Soft to do such a thing.

And also, NCSoft were the ones that decided to sack the expansion box and instead "spread" the content over multiple issues. While a lot of people were convinced this was purely for the good of the playerbase, there's a lot of reasons it was -not- a good thing.

In the article Positron didn't want these to be only for 'the super rich' heroes.

How is making this a rare drop going to change that? Sure, if you have a L50 / time in game / you may pull it off. But... what about the casual user?

I'm guessing the Devs don't buy much at the auction house. A "rare" drop - usable by all AT's, and all levels - is more than a cosmetic affectation. It's gonna be for the super rich and super lucky, imho.

    [/ QUOTE ]

What? I do wonder what they're thinking saying they don't want it to be cost-gated, and then saying it should be more expensive than those.

    [/ QUOTE ]

That was weird. I'm really wondering how that got past an editor.

    [/ QUOTE ]

The same way his "Everything you just told me you wanted in this game is too expensive and takes too much effort" Warcry interview did.
  4. Only Positron can say something like this...

    [ QUOTE ]
Our first idea was to simply allow you to pay Influence or Infamy for your Respec, with an increasing scale in price. The first one costs X, the second one 2 x X, the third 4 x X, the fourth 8 x X, etc. However, even if we put in decay (the price goes down if you don’t buy one in a while) the prices would still gate some users from accessing the content, while not being any sort of hindrance at all to very rich characters.

    [/ QUOTE ]

And then think the perfect solution is to make it a drop that has to be obsessively farmed for, as a piece of loot that can go on the market for bids.

Because, that doesn't benefit the rich players or gate anyone -at all- does it.

    Woah, Rick Astley plays CoX?

And sheesh people, music is art too.
  7. [ QUOTE ]
    Everyone agrees on that.

I think the rub comes in with a split 50/50 on how people view

    1. Forced Raiding if you get an IoP(when the IoP value is so low--i.e. you can get the same effect with IOs without forced raiding)

    2. Instant win raid pylons forcing you to reduce size of base

    3. Destructable items (though you can mitigate this somewhat)

    [/ QUOTE ]

    1. I think that forced raiding is bad. I do think that the rewards should be on a timer, and need occaisonal retrieving, and to encourage PVP, you should be able to get stronger IoPs if you choose to be raidable.

    2. No comment on this, since I've yet to actually get a chance to participate in a raid, IoPed or not.

    3. Im not a fan of permanently destroyed base items, due to expense, but temporarily disabling as part of a raiding tactic, I dont mind. There should possibly be mitigators that make said items harder to disable.

And, for those that see that bases are fine as-is with being glorified trams/chat rooms, then personally, I don't see bases being a very high priority, because they already serve that purpose just fine, outside of teammate kick bug.

Some more SG TFs from the mission computer might be nice.

Edit: Mind you, that does not mean I dont think actual bugs with how objects should work should not be fixed, it's just, from my own experience, the PvE base functions fine and that there's other things in the game that would really need more attention.
  8. Absolutely nothing should be higher priority than Cathedral of Pain. Without it, bases are just glorified chat rooms and trams. Its not like the Cathedral of Pain wouldn't be multi-rewarding. It gives bases a purpose, and also gives the PvE/PVP sides of the playerbase something to do.
  9. Virdian Falcon, Rad/Sonic Defender on Virtue ((Note, not my character.))

I was just amazed how sometimes when things line up right in this game, you really can just create a scene like from a comic.
  10. Was overall happy with I9. The only thing that prevents it from recieving 5 stars from me is lack of Temporary Power Inventions. Hopefully, this will be corrected soon.
  11. Dark Watcher? Awesome. I liked his character in the first book.
  12. Thats freaking awesome. Because it's totally true. And actually happened.
  13. Mysterious!

But seriously. Something as silly as "waah costumes dont drop" warrants a dev reply, but something that has entire now pointless systems developed around it has slid to the status of "Lock the official thread and hope no one notices"

I mean, seriously, If its gotten to this point, let us convert the 30000 metric tons of worthless base salvage to invention salvage since without a CoP, base raiding is pointless, so base defenses are pointless.
  14. At least this is still here.

But Im pretty sure it's just an oversight. Seems safe enough to call the CoP dead in the water now.

The dev team's taken a stance to value Debuff/Buff over any characters innate abilities since I5, the new end game raids are just a continuation of that.

    [/ QUOTE ]

This is clearly about you having an axe to grind, and zero objective experience or consideration of what it takes to make something hard for 50 people. His damage output would have to be maximized in some way to account for the fact that we can cap our protections to him, meaning raids without the max number of people, or without maximized buffs, would be horribly unprepared for him. If they tune his damage output somewhere lower, then raids who can max their defenses would trivialize the raid.

    [/ QUOTE ]

So of course, it's fine to trivialize 1/2 of the melee ATs powersets out there instead and add an inspiration to do something they're supposed to already be capable of.

I still say if they had decided to make Hamidon "difficult" by putting a zone debuff that greyed out all buff/debuff powers, and the debuff could only be countered by an inspiration you'd have to farm, the majority of the playerbase that haunt these forums would cry foul loud enough until it got fixed.
  16. [ QUOTE ]

Well I attempted Hami last night for the first time, and I can honestly say it's not something I will ever likely attempt again, at least not for a long time. It was, without any shadow of doubt, neither FUN nor CHALLENGING.

For starters, virtually all your defensive abilities are utterly useless. Damage is untyped, meaning resistances do nothing. Their tohit buff must be off the charts, cause defense is worthless. Regens fair a tad better due to their nature, until of course they get hit with a -regen debuff which puts them out. Mez protection is a joke, cause one hit broke Unyielding, leaving me near-perma disoriented. And without any fear protection of my own, often perma-terrorized. So basically, what's the point of having powers when none of them do a damned thing? Factor in their own native damage and mez resistances, and we're all nothing but level 1 toons. Sorry, this isn't what we deserve for climbing the ranks to level 50.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Prepare to get lynched. ((more :P)) The current forum fanbase is of the opinion that it's perfectly fine for the end game to completely negate half you character, and you'll also have people suggest you use your armors in "new and different ways" such as "Death Shroud for Damage Mitigation and Stacking Cloak of Fear's debuff".

The dev team's taken a stance to value Debuff/Buff over any characters innate abilities since I5, the new end game raids are just a continuation of that.
  17. [ QUOTE ]
We've gotten many PMs with similiar laments about defense, resistance, stealth, etc. All of which are reasonable complaints. However, it's simply not what this particular encounter is. As others have pointed out, in order to make a single entity that can be attacked by 50 players at the same time we have to step outside of the bounds of 'normal' rules in order to make it challenging.

    [/ QUOTE ]

So, when are we going to see a particular encounter that renders buff/debuff near pointless to have? Because between both games, we're going 4 for 4 on end game content where armor is fairly worthless beyond 1-2 players on your team.

It's just getting a bit tiresome that any time you guys want to design something challenging or make the game more challenging, the first thing you do is groin kick the Defense/Resist sets.
  18. Big surprise, no mention of the EATs or powersets that were supposedly being made and getting spread over I10-I12.

Or the Cathedral of Pain, rofl.

    1) You have the default To Hit value (ie no buffs), your target has no Defense value. How often do you WANT to hit him? Conversely, as the defender, how often do you expect to be missed?

    [/ QUOTE ]

50 Percent to hit as an attacker, 50 percent to dodge as a defender.
    [ QUOTE ]

    2) You have the maximum possible To Hit value, and your target has no defense value. How often do you WANT to hit him? Conversely, as the defender, how often do you expect to be missed?

Attacker: Expect to hit 90 percent of the time. Defender: Expect to be missed 10 percent of the time.

This should be reset down to the default 50/50 hit chance from the first scenario.

On the other hand, PvE environments are generally static, and not because they have to be, but because game designers claim they *must* be: that an evolving PvE environment creates all sorts of problems that would upset or unbalance the game. Can't have PvE players alterning the environment, because a constantly shifting backdrop to PvE would wreck PvE.

    [/ QUOTE ]
I don't really know any developers who believe that. We look at games like Prince of Persia: Sands of Time, God of War or Shadow of the Colossus and the innovative use of terrain involved there and think "How can we get things such as that into our game?"

    [/ QUOTE ]

Then someone says "Too expensive, too much effort" and it winds up in MUO, amirite?
  21. Does the book HAVE to feature only one character? IE, can other players characters have a part in the book, say, if the person wants to do it based on their SG?

Won't we have to have the permissions of players we include in the book if we have multiple characters in the book?

I can imagine this could get to be a really touchy subject if someone decides to throw together a comic based on PVP screenshots.

    Cryptic article.

Kaktos posted a portion of this in the Marvel thread but it has some insight into the founding of cryptic and such, figured I'd point it out to people who don't frequent the comics forum.

  23. Im sorry, I can't vote for the Story as long as the CoV story revolves around being Recluse's [censored] and there's no alternative plot to follow.

If PvE was an option, id have taken it, but as is, I took PvP. CoH's strengths are it's costume creation and combat system, but darnit, I've seen enough costume updates lately. XD
