I'll say this much, to the shock of anyone who knows me.
With the Alpha slot unlocked, I kind of like Dark Armor. Cardiac End/Resist helps A LOT. -
5 Inf says someone will still feel the need to post a new thread tomorrow instead of using this one.
-
Quote:Nope, used to be something like this got announced, Virtue HOPPED on it within minutes. I mean, me posting about it first? Unpossible.Yeah, cause, you know, it's only been just announced, so it's gotta be the Rookery's fault noone has been talking about it for the last week.
Instead, we look at the first page of virtue and see 5 rookery threads and sigh and go along our way. Or have quit checking altogether, because well, the rookery is like the black hole of the forums. -
You shouldn't play Dark Armor then. Take something else, color it dark using power customization. I feel much the same way about IOs, and having leveled a /DA brute to 50, I would never recommend it to anyone else. Not without seriously investing in the IO system in the process.

Quote:You are. The VIP server is, IMO, just a PR move to retain people who would otherwise go "OH NO THE FREE PLAYERS ARE TAINTING MY EXPERIENCE, IM GOING TO UNSUBSCRIBE NOW!!1"I believe it has VIP content to offer. But I could be mistaken.
Sadly, I know people like this. -
Man if there was any doubt that the Rookery had killed this forum, the fact virtueites aren't talking about i21 and Freedom much yet is the final proof.
-
I suspect that only the hardcore "elitists" will actually leave the server completely. And I've never cared for those types anyway.

Issue 21
Oh and CoH is going F2P
I think that if they can keep content flowing, this is a good thing. -
Im making Fist an incarnate because dark armor sucks and needs all the help it can get.
-
I had just come back a month or so myself Alevan, I remember you!
I played Sovereign Fist, if you remember him, and now he's blue-side so he can actually team with people of likemind morality!

Quote:When did this happen?Thank you for the event, Avatea.
P.S. Was personally amused at how many folks actually saw the flyer and met at the restaurant instead of somewhere more iconic like the Big Donut. It was chosen as an assembly area since Avatea last reported suspicious activity in Faultline and because it's a nice open area with good food and discoteca <3.
Man! I forgot to take screenies! -
Yeah, waiting 50ish minutes in Faultline for something to start to get a "Congratulations, you've all won!" message was ... kind of dissapointing.
-
Nope, that's still part of Group 2, because you consider losing a waste of time.
-
Quote:Good lord man, at least it's not another stupid "GOOD MORNING AT TEH ROOKERY" thread. Personally, I generally only check the virtue threads and a few specific sub-sections and hadn't known this. Why is this in a server forum? Does she only appear on the Virtue server?

This really is a great group for RP, and its interesting to be a part of VG where there's actual plotting going on, and a scheduled team night.
-
The fundamental problems with RPvP are two specific groups.
Group 1: Min-maxers who build their character for maximum effectiveness and then tailors their concept around min-maxed build to -DOMINATE- because they hate losing.
Group 2: Doesn't want to really participate because their build isn't effective due to game mechanics and it goes against their character concept to ever actually be defeated, and don't bother because they know they'll lose and they hate losing.
The problem is, "real" RP doesn't have winners or losers. Unless you can find a group that's willing to accept that the game mechanics of CoH dictate the rules of reality just like the dice + attributes dictate how things work in DnD, and don't consider getting upstaged in a combat situation the end of their entire character, you're not going to have much luck.
You can RP a loss just as easily as you can RP a victory, just, most people don't want to do that.
Course, this is coming from someone who just accepted they were a PVP punching bag and made it part of their concept, so, your mileage may vary. -
I'd say A-Merits have no value, aside from to yourself, as there is no way to transfer them?
-
Thanks for the feedback.
Quote:This is kind of by design. I've intentionally made the mission "complete" before Eva's betrayal, but by making it "Find Mission Exit", even if someone just sped ahead and ditched her, when they're leaving they should bump into her as well. There are two additional spawns but they're also optional, so the intended "result" would be one of two things:
Dr. Eva Lone's betrayal fits her but there's a critical gameplay error. While I and several others probably won't cheat and use Ouro to avoid the Find Mission Exit, the arc's intention of fighting her and the other spawns can be broken simply by dying. Standard lab maps lack jail code so if you die you have to hosp or wait for an ally rez. Since you are fighting Crey in this mission, it is unlikely that one of the few maps with working jail code (Arachnos, Council, 5th Column) will suit you. On that note, the last time I checked the Longbow maps that SHOULD have working jails are still bugged. Also, you might want to rearrange the order of the clues so that they fit spawn order.- That either Eva successfully betrays you, and you have to hosp it out and thus can't just go back in and retake your revenge.
- You successfully defeat Eva, and then bump into the follow up crews.
Quote:
Both Mission 2 and 4 require you to defeat all of Comrade's spawn when it would make more sense to only require Comrade himself. Also have to give you a thumbs up on the repurposed enemies you used to represent Comrade's personal army.
Quote:For Bad Penny in Mission 3 and Comrade himself in Mission 4, you have them speak their emotes out loud. It doesn't give the effect I think you're going for. Bad Penny's would make more sense as a defeat clue while Comrade's could be done with gloating exposition. "You see this? I press this button and -insert threat here-"
Quote:You mention the Hero Corps offices but then you have Comrade elsewhere in a nearby warehouse. Comrade is the type to be there in the midst of the threat though he does have an escape plan. I wonder if using the Freedom Corp warehouse could be a decent enough thematic fit. There's two of them and they're pretty linear in structure.
Quote:One thing that mildly bugs me is Comrade's actual escape plan though sadly it might not be solvable with how the MA is currently setup. You can stop Comrade for good but people die or get the cure but let Comrade free. While it probably "works" it just feels...cliche. Also, in being genre savvy you don't know if he'd truly keep his word. A better option would be a timer to rescue the people who are poisoned or taking the option to fight Comrade. Still mildly cliche but it is a better example of heroically saving people versus getting revenge on Comrade himself. It may take a small bit of rewriting but it might be a viable option. Plus, the timer could be used for the victory/failure condition.
While it is a huge cliche, the alternative of the plucky hero powering through and winning the no-win scenario isn't much better.
Typo's have been corrected, thanks for the catch, and the other things I'll have to consider, - That either Eva successfully betrays you, and you have to hosp it out and thus can't just go back in and retake your revenge.
-
Maybe rename the Splices by taking the gender out of their name. Their names can display identical, they just have to have a different File name, I think. I've seen other arcs do so.
-
So after this initial run, I've decided on some guidelines for this for future plays.
Rule 1: The arc has to have less than 10 plays and not have a rating.
Rule 2: The arc has to be listed as final.
Rule 3: The arc has to have been posted for at least one month.
That means, if you have an arc that meets these requirements, you can post it in this thread for a review. I realize that's not a really open window, but the goal of this thread is going to basically be treasure hunting through dead arcs for anything worth noting. -
So after the previous 2, decided to go to the -bottom- of the pile for my next arc.

Level range 5-40.
Mission 1: It's a straightforward find the bombs, beat the boss map. Had an elite boss at the end so not sure how friendly it'd be to level 5. No glaring Typos, no missing descriptions, and the clues paint the story well. Was a defeat all, but the map was small enough I didnt mind.
Mission 2: Bank Map: Second verse, same as the first! Different location and different dialogue, but pretty much the same as the first mission minus an collectables or defeat all.
Mission 3: Ship map, Timed. Different boss, and the story starts to come together a bit.
Mission 4: Warehouse map, kinda small. Original boss returns, not really a problem at this point.
Pros: Fairly well polished, not terribly difficult, but it does have an EB in each mission (Which Im guessing scales to AV on teams). Nothing that wasn't able to be handled by an inspiration loadout.
Cons: It's unfortunately kind of generic and anticlimactic. Still, after the previous two, it was a fresh change of pace.
This arc was published on 4/30/2009, so the fact it had no plays and was well enough done that I didn't feel like I had wasted my time makes me wonder if there are any other hidden gems in the mix. -
Classic Boss Battles
By @O.Children
Arc ID: 452528
Description: "Here are your classic boss battles! Can you defeat them all?"
Apparently, a classic boss battle consists of fighting a level 10 Infected boss, that spawns an ambush.

Arc Name: Why so Serious?
By @Bruce Wayne
Arc Id: 452266
After seeing that arc title and global handle, can you blame me for actually trying it?
Unfortunately, it's rubbish. Broken objectives. I fight Carnies, until I bump into friendly carnies holding Vickie the Chickie hostage, who is hostile but I can't attack. No story what so ever. Contact's opening dialogue: "Time to take the circus to the Carnies." His answer after I accept? "Thank you for helping me, it means more than you know".
Im then randomly thrown in a crypt that leads to a cave to find four papers (which generate no clues) and defeat Jack. I complete the four papers objective and mission complete! No Jack to defeat at all!
It's only two missions so I'm gonna complete it. Oh, and the pop up text says "Now that the clown is defeated, the world can continue as we know it."
But... I didn't defeat a clown!
Start the second mission... Yeah, this arc's not worthy any more typing at all. The only worth this arc has is to show how bad AE can be.
Sounds harsh, but it's in "Final" status, and supposedly is thus finished.

The purpose of this thread is going to be to slog through the AE and dig up arcs that have been published, but not rated, for whatever reason, and then play them and rate them!
First Arc:
Stop the Wrestlers!
@Mask of the 8th
Arc ID: 452075
Publish Date: 9/23/10
4 mission arc.
First off: Statesman is my contact? Really? Yeah, this one's slipping into non-canon obviously.
Mission 1: Abandoned Office map. Custom group for enemies, and a -lot- of variety in the looks and powers of the random minions. Unfortunately, 98% of the humor of this arc, I can already tell, is going to be lost on people that have never watched wrestling or hate it. Final Boss is a play on Sgt Slaughter called Sgt Butcher
Mission 2: Bank Map: Same custom group, this time taking on "Sandy Ravage". Straightforward go forward and kill the boss mission. Sandy Ravage references beef jerky. Yay.
Mission 3: Steel Canyon Tram map. This one almost broke me from finishing the arc. One of the required objectives had stealth so I didn't see it until I broke down and just started trying to clear the arc, and then it popped into view with a "HEHEHEHEHE" and well, it sorta creeped me out! But fitting for the character it was parodying. Other notables are "Mr. Rio" and "The Piz". Piz actually had a line that made me LOL, but it would be lost on anyone who's unfamiliar with the source.
Mission 4: Office Map. Same custom group, final mission. Ultima Warrior, John Senior, etc. I have to admit to chuckling at "Corner" the rated PG superstar. John Senior is an ancient old man Thugs/Kinetics MM. At one point in the fight he starts screaming "Stop moving so fast, I can't SEE YOU!" He'll be an AV in teams scarily enough. Got two allies that Im guessing are either alts or friends of the Mission maker.
Final Thoughts: I don't know if I should be saddened or relieved that there was no Hulk Hogan parody. I rated it 4 stars in game, which is probably a bit high, but there were no glaring typos, I didnt die the entire arc but was challenged at points, and hey, I got the wrestling references and jokes. I feel like for anyone that wouldn't, this would be a 1-2 star arc at best, because it lives and dies by this theme.
