Quote:No, I don't. Do you trust National Geographic commentary? Those are some pretty coreographed dances. Do you have a video showing us where someone is actually hitting anything with a steel whip? It looks like it might be painful to be smacked by one but will it kill you?

Quote:I don't think you are speaking of the same thing.Well, if I was doing that, sure, I'd be doing something flawed. I was just pointing out the man who claimed whips are a really potent weapon IRL was wrong.
I then went on to talk about the game.

Quote:I think only 3 of the CoTT are currently L45+?Well lemme just put this out there in response to the ITF idea:
The last time we tried an all dom run at it with lvl 45s (tribal earth team), we rolled the SF up until Romi. We just couldn't put out enough DPS to take him down with the healing nictus. Then, once the nictus blooms came, we'd get wiped.
Now, that was before the dom revamp of I15. It was also with a team of 5 or 6 iirc.
So theoretically, we should be able to pull this off simply with a team of 8 and the increased dmg 100% of the time. A well-timed SoC on the nictus bloom would come in handy, too. -
Quote:My primary complaint, voiced rather regularly on our all-dom team (as Dark_Current can attest to), is the short range and small radius. 25' range + 15' radius is bloody annoying. It pretty much makes it useful _only_ as a damage power, rather than a slow/control.I took it on my Plant/Thorns at 28 (despite Talen warning not to) and I haven't hated it.
It may not be for everyone, sure. But I had fun with it taking on some hazard-sized groups in Sharkhead. Seeds of Confusion -> Roots -> Thorntrops -> Carrion Creepers can make a nice little dent. I'm also not above rooting mobs, throwing thorntrops, then running around a corner like a little girl, either.
40' range + 20' radius would make it more useful to me (even if damage, duration, and/or recharge had to take a hit). -

I've been playing my grav/elec lately and noticed that after I wormhole some mobs they teleport next to me and are NOT stunned. No, I'm not talking about bosses.
It's not every time, nor is it a majority of the mobs. I'll WH 3-5 targets per activation and maybe 1-2x per mission I'll notice that one of the mobs in the group will still be active. He'll teleport next to me, and just start attacking. It's been minions and lieutenants from factions that should be stunned (Cims, LB and Rikti).
This isn't the 'beta response' you get from WH where the mobs get off an attack before they're stunned if you stay in LOS. I'm completely out of LOS when I've noticed this (you come to expect some beta shots if you use WH in LOS) and the mob attacks me with a melee attack (so it's not just a queued range attack). And dont' forget, he'll actually get up from his kb landing and move toward me to attack.
Anyone else noticed this odd behavior with WH lately?
[/ QUOTE ]
I haven't, in the brief time I took Iron Crescent for a spin post-buff. Haven't noticed it on the all-dom team either, but... kinda hard to tell there...
Is it possible a mob used anti-mez as an "alpha" when WH started? e.g. Cimeroran or maybe a Warden using clear mind?
With regard to Rikti... Maybe you missed a LT and he simply beamed over to you?
[Though "KB landing" precludes that, unless he beamed in too close to singy...] -

It's pretty simple, but only worth 4 merits though. The respec trial is worth 15 more if we do that as well.

This double exp weekend I'll try to crank out my WAI Ice/Dark.

I will consider that, though what swallowed up the bulk of my spawns, realistically speaking, was my secondary slotted for damage. I'll try to gravitate more slots towards the hold, but I'm afraid life would be really hard without damage
[/ QUOTE ]
A lot of that can be made easier by focusing your slotting efforts. Gravity distortion was likely the *only* thing from your primary and pools that needed slots before L26.
[Except GDF, if you took it.] -
[ QUOTE ]
You'll be able to stack 3 Holds without Domination up, and you'll be able to do it consistently with that slotting.
For a L50 Gravity Dom with 2 L50 Recharge Common IOs and 2 L50 Hold Duration Common IOs [u]without[u] Hasten, GD recharges in 4.36 seconds and lasts for 32.8 seconds.
[/ QUOTE ]
Perhaps you missed the "uses SO's, avoids IO's" bit.
[ QUOTE ]
That means you can stack 2 Holds on a target within 5 seconds for the next 26 seconds or so and 3 Holds within 10 seconds for about 20 seconds. Keep casting it whenever it recharges and you're going to able to easily stack 4 or 5 Holds on a target consistently.
Of course, you need to survive for that first 10 seconds
[/ QUOTE ]
Less than that with GDF and/or singularity. -
[ QUOTE ]
IDK, but I know the Countess kept targeting me. I'm pretty sure those were her creepers that pwnd me on that lab map.
[/ QUOTE ]
I only _targetted_ you once. I can't help the aoe's. -
[ QUOTE ]
I wouldn't call it a stunt. You don't worry about Fury generation on AoE attacks-- the agro the generate is a huge boost to Fury.
Having multiple cones is perfectly viable as they line up well. Fire/SR/Mako would be a fine end game build for AoE and ST.
[/ QUOTE ]
Fire breath is uber short compared to the other two, though, which can make it awkward.
Oh, and don't forget the aoe immob; not only does it keep stuff in place, but it's a cone as well.
[I went fire/shield/mako for 4 cones and 2 aoe's.] -

I'm guessing 'lighter' = less effective.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yeah.
Although the only reason why that seems that way is because Controllers use their controls more than Dominators since they lack any attacks outside of APPs.
[/ QUOTE ]
Actually, no; Dominators DO have weaker controls ( out of Domination ) than Controllers. Controllers have an accuracy bonus with them, and they last longer.
[/ QUOTE ]
The accuracy of the controller sets is identical to the accuracy of the dominator sets, barring buffs/debuffs from the controller *secondary*. -
[ QUOTE ]
It's still not where I'd ideally want it to be, and it's still pretty easy to get in over my head, but unlike most other ATs, I feel things are only going to get better, or at the very least not get any worse. That means a lot to me.

Anecdotal story:
I recently took out my L50 grav/nrg/mu out for a spin to see how it worked after the changes.
He's an older character, so I decided to run Ashley's arc; the Amulets of Coralax mission. Difficulty setting of ruthless (4).
Well, I go into the mission, summon singularity, and see a behemoth up ahead. I target him and hit wormhole... and dump a _pair_ of L52 mages in front of me.
I hit one with total focus while both of them were standing up. Singularity and I stacked gravity distortion on the second just as he was finishing up the darkest night animation.
So, caught semi-flatfooted, without domination, grav/nrg managed to permamez two +2 bosses without taking a hit from either of them. [Some of the other mobs managed to tag me a bit, but nothing serious.]
Did I get lucky? Yeah, a bit. Still was fun, and hopefully some indication that grav/nrg should end up being a decent soloer for you.
[Note: While he has IO's, they are all generic, cheap, or mix-n-match... he's at 0% global rch, and I think the best bonus he has is 3 points of -KB. They're all mostly L30-40, too. Oh, and you know that patron armor thing? He doesn't have it. Waste of endurance.]

If you want to talk about failure to understand things I recall a thread where you had no idea how to create a good short arc and figured you could just do w/e you did in a long arc.
[/ QUOTE ]
Memory like a steel sieve. The question was specifically whether writing a short arc used a completely different set of skills than writing a long arc. My position then and now is that while short arcs and long arcs prioritize different things sometimes, there exists no skill that you can use in a short arc that you cannot use to similar effect in a long arc, which means the total skill set you can bring to bear on a long arc is a superset of the one you can use to author a short arc. Which is just another way of saying short arcs don't use any unique skills.
That's not a debatable opinion. Its logically impossible to be false, since its always possible to write a long arc that is an anthological sum of multiple short arcs. I can always take the product of any short arc writer and include it in a longer arc. This should be another one of those trivially simple concepts to understand, given that all it requires is a fundamental understanding of what a "superset" is.
This is why your particular judgements aren't especially troubling to me. The effort it would take to be sufficiently wrong to be in agreement with you is never going to be worth the cost of being that wrong. Its just an unavoidable writeoff.
[/ QUOTE ]
If that was your position, and it's inarguable... why did you ask the question? -
[ QUOTE ]
If we're going to go into stuff like that, we'd also have to determine which powers he was using, since many of them had flat out damage increases in addition to the general damage buff.
[/ QUOTE ]
The majority of the flat-out damage increases were to DPA, not DPS or DPE, right? IOW, flat/unchanged until the gaps in the chain get filled in.... which, again, doesn't apply to low levels.
[ QUOTE ]
Maybe he's a level 10 /ice dom?

Or electric? -

And then there are those in game playing wiht it and noticing that the damage did not increase.

They call those people 'blind.' They read braille and have a unique perspective on life.
[/ QUOTE ]
Or, to give the benefit of the doubt, he's one of those people who rolled a new dominator.
Y'know, at the really low levels, where the increase in scalar's not visible *and* you lost a 75% self-damage buff? -

I'd rather D-Shift be some sort of AoE Knockup power or patch.
[/ QUOTE ]As long as you are comfortable acknowledging that no matter how much you like this idea it will not happen, then that's a perfectly fine mental mode to be in. If you want to talk about changing Gravity, then you had best move past this desire.
[/ QUOTE ]Care to explain why it's impossible?
[/ QUOTE ]The last time a power was changed from thing A to thing B was Singularity itself. That was a mere four years ago.
The last time a reorder happened was the War Mace shifts which was slightly after that point. So I think these two precedents indicate how hard-pressed the developers are to shift things like that.
[/ QUOTE ]
It all depends on when they found out about the problem.
Singularity was changed mere months before the devs found out about the bug in psionic shockwave. Since that just got fixed recently, we might be seeing a patch to dimension shift some time in the next two issues... -

If I were reworking the visuals of dimshift I'd:
Make affected foes look (more) like singularity from gravity. They would clearly be experiencing some dimensional woes while still allerting people that enemies are present.
If I were reworking the mechanics of phased targets Id:
Make them untargetable unless you are on the same plane of existence.
*this might cause issues in pvp though.
[/ QUOTE ]
If y'all are insisting on altering DS's graphics, I think I'd shoot for "photo negative".
Bloody obvious, in theme (other dimension), and theoretically easy to code. -
[ QUOTE ]
I question the wisdom of TK/TD when you have mesmerize and Confuse in the same set.
[/ QUOTE ]
<Shrug>
TD + MC means you have hard controls up twice as often.
TK means you have early aoe control that survives aoe attacks.
It all depends on your playstyle, and mind can be heavily tailored to fit pretty much anyone.
e.g. A lot of people swear by mass hypnosis for soloing, whereas I find it to be quite unnecessary with 3 ST controls. -

I had to stop myself. My Grav/Psi hit lvl 7 pretty easily with minimal effort on live.
